2022 was a rough year for Hip Hop. Despite the influx of new, talented women in the game, there has been incredible loss and displays of misogynoir that kept our beloved genre in the headlines.
We had the pleasure of interviewing Zeal & Ardor over Zoom video! Zeal & Ardor's widely praised second album, Stranger Fruit, was released by MVKA in 2018, following the global attention-getting, multi-million streamed debut Devil Is Fine. Critically acclaimed across the industry, The Guardian newspaper described Stranger Fruit as "extraordinary and brilliant" upon release. Upset wrote it was "a compelling listen," Metal Hammer applauded its "sheer musical brilliance," with Rock Sound concluding, it was "one of the most uniquely daring and wholly affecting albums of 2018 so far," plus further plaudits rolling in from SiriusXM, Rolling Stone, Kerrang!, Noisey, Alternative Press, Revolver, Pitchfork, Stereogum, and more. By Christmas 2018, the UK's largest free newspaper Metro declared Stranger Fruit their #2 Album of the Year in a cross-genre list, declaring "in this jaw-dropping meld of black American folk music and black metal, the Swiss artist Manuel Gagneux has hit upon something genuinely original." In March 2019, following a blistering set in London the previous December, the band went on to release the double live album Live In London. Then, in October 2020, amidst a provocative and stimulating 18-month profound period of reflection — that led to the writing of the forthcoming self-titled album — the band quietly shared the striking, standalone 6-track EP Wake Of A Nation. Their intense third album, crystalizing everything the band is, will be released in February 2022. We want to hear from you! FINDING KENDRICK JOHNSON is the feature documentary product of a 4-year undercover investigation into the facts of this case. From the creator of 'Stranger Fruit', this new documentary hopes to shed light on one of the most important American stories of our time. Told through the eyes of KJ's family and close friends, On January 11th, 2013, Kendrick Johnson was found dead in his high school gymnasium rolled up in a gym mat. The state of Georgia ruled his death as an accident, having died from positional asphyxia. When the family hired their own Forensic Pathologist, not only did he find KJ's organs missing from his body during the autopsy, he determined the cause of death to be from non-accidental blunt force trauma. To this day, no one knows where KJ's organs have gone.. So what really happened to KJ? Narrated by Hollywood legend, Jenifer Lewis. Directed by 'Stranger Fruit' creator, Jason Pollock, with an amazing team of producers including Actor Hill Harper, and Space Jam 2 director Malcolm D. Lee, FINDING KENDRICK JOHNSON shares this truly historic, heartbreaking, and unbelievable story with the world for the first time. Foe news, updates and screenings go to: findingkendrickjohnson.com
Join us in this passionate and insightful conversation about the unfortunate murder of Michael Brown as we discuss the details surrounding the investigation. Further, we discuss the racial climate in America, are things really getting better? Is defunding the police a viable or sustainable solution? Or is it fake hustle?

Neste segundo episódio mergulhamos no mundo do Zêlo e do Ardor.
Heather Wolf, web developer for E-Bird & Cornell Lab of Ornithology gives us a birder's eye-view of what climate change means to Brooklyn's birds and why it matters. Next, hear from actors Tinashe Kajee Bolden and Amber Harris as they talk with Ashley about “DOT”, a new play at the Billie Holiday Theatre. Then, artist and photographer Jon Henry sits down with curator Sol Nova to talk about “Stranger Fruit”, an exhibition currently on view at BRIC.

Zeal and Ardor is the brainchild of Manuel Gagneaux, a Swiss/American musician who on his latest record "Stranger Fruit" has created a powerful alchemy of blues, gospel, black metal, brutal guitars and straight up soul. During a spirited conversation, we discuss his life as an outsider, what he learned from his jazz musician mother and the story of the record.

"It's kind of an expansion of the first album that probably nobody ever heard about or listened to," offered Manuel Gagneux, driving force behind the enigma that is Zeal & Ardor ahead of the release of his second album, Stranger Fruit. "I'm pretty fucken proud of it and I hope you enjoy it too."No stranger to controversy over his thought-provoking and brutally honest lyrics, Gagneux refuses to apologize for his content, evoking an emotion through his music that almost dares you to ignore his message."It's hard to convey how I create that emotion," he measured, "because in a conversation like this it splits into a jovial conversation but I can't really get into what I felt like making the album now because that would ruin the whole vibe of this chat..."In a refreshingly honest and uncensored chat, Manuel discusses the intricacies of the album and the meaning behind the title and artwork, as well as just what his objectives are with Zeal & Ardor. He talks about his beliefs on censorship versus honesty and also has an interesting tale to tell of being punched in the face because of his music.Stranger Fruits is out June 8
