When you return from vacation, here are 3 things you really shouldn't do.1. Do NOT weight yourself. Just stay OFF the scale. For a solid week. The scale will almost inevitably be up. There is no need to see that number- it won't do you any good! It may be up because you truly gained weight. OR it could be up because of fluid retention, which is very common when traveling. Excess sodium from dining out, alcohol, more carbs than normal & sitting in the car or airplane can all contribute to fluid retention. This is TEMPORARY and will likely shake out after a few days. But do yourself a favor & just leave it be.2. Do NOT restrict excessively. You may be feeling “heavy” or bloated, neither of which are a good feeling, but there is no need to go into a highly restrictive plan. It's  definitely okay to get back to healthy eating, but cutting out all carbs or taking your calories down drastically will only leave you feeling hungry & contributes to the all/nothing mentality. Think balance & focus on eating more veggies, fruits & lean protein. 3. Do NOT try to compensate with excessive exercise. Instead, get back to your normal routine. Plan for & schedule in your workouts. Go ahead & take an extra walk if you have time, but grinding for an hour+ on the elliptical for 5 days straight isn't going to do you any good in the long run. Again, it sets you up for an all/nothing mindset. Balance is better for sustainability. Here are some healthy things you can do post-vacay: ☀️Pound the water. Aim for 100 oz daily. ☀️Get back to your normal sleep routine. ☀️Meal plan & grocery shop so you are prepared & have healthy food options on hand. ☀️And finally, give yourself a little grace - it will take some time to get back to your routine. Allow some for some flexibility, but definitely hold yourself accountable & get back to it!If you are looking for support & accountability for your health & fitness goals- I would love to help. We recently just got back from a holiday with 5 little people, so today we talk about how to simplify holidays. Rosie gives some great packing tips to help you, especially if you have multiple little ones to worry about. We went with two suitcases for 7 individuals, which we did so we could focus more on hangers instead of bags to help organize things better, especially when clothes are dirty. It's also important to make sure you're prepping all the kids before you leave by going to the bathroom in order to be able to leave and not have to stop for a while. Some powerful things we learned and packing tips 2:00Don't forget the snack bag, or using the toilet 5:00holidays for Adam 12:45A nice hotel and two separate rooms 19:00“I had Elijah's sleep suit, I took it off him on the bed and I never went through the bed covers leaving, so I think I left one of his little sleep suits there.” “Out of all our stuff, if that's all we lost in a week with 5 kids, that's a miracle.” 21:40https://www.facebook.com/theirishmummy/https://www.instagram.com/the_irish_mummy/Pick up a copy of Journal to Joy. We've brought back the listener's mailbag. Today we're answering your family and finance questions about saving up for multiple goals, revamping your budget, and travel planning tips! Family and Finances: Better Budgets and More One of my favorite parts about Simplify and Enjoy is the community. While I'm happy to share our journey as a family: the projects that we're taking on, the goals we're trying to reach, it's always fun to get your take on things to hear your questions, stories, and celebrate your wins. Today, we're going to wrap up this set of episodes by answering three questions from you. First, we're going to get into how to save from multiple goals. This is a challenge for a lot of families because not only are they trying to save for retirement, maybe put aside something for their kids, college expenses. They also have to make sure there's enough money to replace the cars, take family vacations, get gifts for others and so forth. So, how do you juggle it all? Next we'll talk about how to adjust or if needed, revamp your budget. We're halfway through the year. So I knew a lot of families are looking at things that are working and what's not. They want to finish this year strong, so they want to redo their budget. We'll go over some tips on what you need to adjust and surprisingly, some things to avoid when working with your budget. Finally we'll examine how to plan and budget for family vacations. I think it's something that we all need, and many of us are excited about getting back to. And at the same time, we want to stick with some of our other financial goals and keep that on target. I'm going to share some tips that have helped us manage family vacations and still stay on budget. We got a lot to cover today. So let's get started! Not only do they support the podcast, but they help make managing your money so much easier.  Did you know that it's estimated that there are currently over 24 million “forgotten” 401(k) accounts? In fact, the average American changes jobs every 4 years.  And because of the Great Resignation, you or someone you know might be changing jobs even more  It's an extreme case of out of sight and out of mind. Is your old 401(k) in there somewhere, left behind at a job you're no longer with? One huge benefit of an IRA is choosing how your money is invested, not your old employer.  If you want to consolidate your old 401(k) and have more options with how you invest, it may be time to roll them over into an IRA.   With Capitalize, they handle the process from start to finish – for FREE and yes that includes calling the 401(k) provider on your behalf.  Find out how and get started today!  Support the Podcast! Businesses are learning to cope with COVID as an ongoing part of life. But how will you business plans be impacted this summer? Today on MoneyWise, we'll talk about the impacts of the continued pandemic on your travel and lodging this summer. After grappling with two years of government restrictions and cancellations, the industry is projecting that travel and tourism this year will reach pre-pandemic levels and pump nearly $2 trillion into the U.S. economy. Governments here and abroad are lessening restrictions, and tourist-related businesses like airlines and hotels are learning to accommodate those that remain. SUMMER TRAVEL Let's start with air travel. You can expect to have more people flying this summer with a lot more destinations than the last two years. As for cost, rising inflation so far doesn't seem to be a factor. Right now, fares are actually about 18 percent lower than in 2019. If you're driving, the news isn't so good. Due largely to the Russian invasion of Ukraine and the federal government's increased restrictions on domestic oil drilling, gas prices are expected to continue rising. GasBuddy is projecting that the national average price of gasoline will remain well above $4 per gallon through October. Even if you're not planning a long vacation drive this summer, you'll want to start using an app to find the cheapest gas in your area. GasBuddy, Waze, and GetUpside can help you do that. If you're planning on renting a car for your summer vacation, you'd better book it now. Rental cars have become incredibly scarce and prices are high. That's due to slowdowns in automotive manufacturing because of chip shortages. Kayak is reporting that the current national average for a rental car is around $66. That's nearly 30-percent higher than last year at this time, and 40-percent higher than before the pandemic. One-way rentals have all but disappeared as local rental branches are not about to let their cars drive away without returning. All of this has led more folks to turn to person to person rentals. You can check out car sharing sites like Turo and Kyte. They're cleaning up these days due to the car rental crunch. WHAT ABOUT LODGING? Once you get there, you'll need a hotel room. You'll want to book as early as possible. Availability won't be a problem, but pricing could be. CoStar is reporting that the national average price of a night's stay in a hotel is rising steadily and is now $144. EDUCATIONAL TRAVEL After two years of school closures and zoom classes, more parents are getting involved in their kids' education. The result is an increased demand for educational destinations. The site Road Scholar says enrollments for family-learning itineraries are on the rise. Destinations include options to learn about history, geography, and even a new language for international travelers. Prices start at $450 for children, $700 for adults. SETTING SAIL Our summer vacation tips wouldn't be complete without a word about cruises. Omicron has hit the cruise industry hard, but demand for cruises is bouncing back. Right now, the industry reports that about 75% of cruise ships are back in service and that's expected to increase to 100% by the end of the summer. Right now, the average cruise price is $215 per person per day, according to CruseHive.com.
