Shane Ramer is the founder and host of ‘That Sober Guy Podcast'. Starting in 2014, it's known as one of the top recovery pods out there. Shane's life as a kid in the Bay Area saw him succeed on and off the baseball diamond but then he started getting high and drunk. All of a sudden drugs and alcohol became the number one priority in his life, as he moshed his way through the punk rock scene. Shane had a lot of bottoms but his true wakeup call was a simple comment from one of his kids. This dude is on fire and so is this pod. @thatsoberguypodcast https://www.quitdrinkingdude.com https://www.thatsoberguy.com/work-with-shane That Sober Guy Podcast Learn more about your ad choices. It seems like everything is easier when you have a support system – whether they are supporting you in good habits or in bad. Today’s featured guest talks about the importance of finding support to help hold you accountable to your goals. In this episode, One Year No Beer Co-Founder Ruari Fairbairns talks to Shane Ramer, host and founder of That Sober Guy podcast, website, and Sober Guy Sober Girl community. Shane started doing drugs and drinking in high school. Only after marrying his wife and having a child did he realize that he had completely lost control over his life. He attended a 30-day rehab program where he experienced a spiritual awakening that led him to help others. Shane now holds himself accountable through the production of the That Sober Guy Podcast and he has been sober now for 2 years. Numbing Emotions and Learning How to Live Again In this podcast, Shane talks about his childhood and how growing up as the child of alcoholics, “I learned how to run, and to isolate and shut down my emotions. It also taught me a lot about how to not deal with stuff.” He often turned to alcohol to numb his emotions and feelings from his past. Once he returned from rehab, he had to relearn how to relate to himself, his friends, and - most importantly - his wife, without alcohol. “I had to learn myself over, and then I had to learn my wife over, too!” It took more than a year for him to re-establish patterns and relationships, but Shane says, “Since I quit drinking and doing drugs, my life has changed in ways I never could have imagined.” We cannot do these things on our own Six months into his recovery process, Shane established That Sober Guy podcast to support others in their alcohol free journey. He loves talking to interesting people, hearing dramatic stories of recovery and support. He says, “You gotta find a support group – OYNB, a program, a support group, a sponsor – it leads to accountability. Who holds us accountable?” Listen to this episode as Shane discusses his path to recovery and his tips for recovery success.
