Chris Hughes, co-founder of Aquia, joins Chris and Robert on the Application Security Podcast to discuss points from his recent book Software Transparency: Supply Chain Security in an Era of a Software-Driven Society, co-authored with Tony Turner. The conversation touches on the U.S. government in the software supply chain, the definition and benefits of software transparency, the concept of a software bill of materials (SBOM), and the growth of open-source software. The episode also covers crucial topics like compliance versus real security in software startups, the role of SOC 2 in setting security baselines, and the importance of threat modeling in understanding software supply chain risks. They also talk about the imbalance between software suppliers and consumers in terms of information transparency and the burden on developers and engineers to handle vulnerability lists with little context. As an expert in the field, Chris touches on the broader challenges facing the cybersecurity community, including the pitfalls of overemphasizing technology at the expense of building strong relationships and trust. He advocates for a more holistic approach to security, one that prioritizes people over technology.LinksSoftware Transparency: Supply Chain Security in an Era of a Software-Driven Society by Chris Hughes and Tony Turnerhttps://www.wiley.com/en-us/Software+Transparency%3A+Supply+Chain+Security+in+an+Era+of+a+Software+Driven+Society-p-9781394158492Application Security Program Handbook by Derek Fisher https://www.simonandschuster.com/books/Application-Security-Program-Handbook/Derek-Fisher/9781633439818Agile Application Security by Laura Bell, Michael Brunton-Spall, Rich Smith, Jim Birdhttps://www.oreilly.com/library/view/agile-application-security/9781491938836/CNCF Catalog of Supply Chain Compromiseshttps://github.com/cncf/tag-security/blob/main/supply-chain-security/compromises/README.mdFOLLOW OUR SOCIAL MEDIA: ➜Twitter: @AppSecPodcast➜LinkedIn: The Application Security Podcast➜YouTube: https://www.youtube.com/@ApplicationSecurityPodcast Thanks for Listening! ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

Grizzly On The Hunt - Bigfoot, Sasquatch, Cryptids, Paranormal, Aliens, UFO's and More!

#bigfoot #sasquatch #cryptids #bigfoot #aliens #dogman #searchingforbigfoot This Thursday at 10PM EST Time! We have Big Dan Tracy! Big Dan Tracy is a writer, storyteller, a radio DJ, and also an Expedition Bigfoot featured guest living in the ancient Appalachians of Harlan County, Kentucky. Tracy's roots run deep in the rugged hills of Harlan County, Kentucky, a place as storied as the man, himself. Speaking of stories, Tracy recently made waves on the Travel Channel's “Expedition Bigfoot” show where he told the world about an unnerving incident that involved what he wonders was an actual Bigfoot experience or not? Picture this - one fateful evening, Tracy records an unearthly scream echoing from the mountains behind his home. Intrigued? So were the investigators who flocked to his doorstep to probe this auditory enigma and the mystical terrain from which it originated. Tracy will be talking about his experience with the Expedition Bigfoot television show, plus the encounter, itself, he experienced in the deep, dark, hills of Harlan County, Kentucky. Born and bred with media in his DNA, Tracy's brother, Tony Turner, is the iconic newscaster for WYMT- TV Mountain news whose life was cut tragically short in a fatal car wreck. Now, Tracy is a radio DJ, serving up plenty of music and entertainment in his “Dinner Bell Roundup Show” on Harlan's WTUK Wildcat Country FM Radio Station. Now, imagine this. Before serving up country tunes for your afternoon, Tracy was the calm on the other end of 911 calls for the Kentucky State Police. Retirement? Nah! He just shifted gears to become a beacon of comfort, moonlighting as a funeral attendant and grief counselor at Henson & Rich Funeral Home. Now, don't go thinkin' that's all! He's been married for 46 incredible years to his better half, Shirley. They've got their slice of paradise out in Catrons Valley, just a holler away from the City of Harlan. What sets Big Dan Tracy apart is his mastery of storytelling. He's a digital cowboy who loves his writing just as much as he loves his computer bytes. He's penned books like “That's the Way It Was,' which is a soulful biography of his brother Tony, and “Smoke and Cinder,” which isn't just a historical treasure about railroads - it's got a mini-novel tucked in, featuring Carolina Boone, a Civil War soldier with a knack for engineering trains for the Confederacy. But hold on tight, because here's where it gets mystifying! Tracy's life is a tapestry woven with threads of spirituality and the paranormal. Imagine growing up in a lumber mill camp in Putney, Kentucky, where spirits and energies aren't just folktales, they're family neighbors! Those encounters still haunt him, not in a 'hide-under-your-bed' kind of way, but in vivid, spiritual memories that shape who he is today. https://grizzly.spiritsale.com https://paranormalhub.com/grizzly-hunt For Trail Cams and More Click the Link Below! The AppSec community agrees that threat modeling is essential, but many struggle to implement it effectively. Using insight from the LinkedIn community, Chris lays out a comprehensive Threat Modeling strategy to guide AppSec teams to success in this critical discipline. Before starting, consider the organization's culture, tech debt, and current risk posture. Threat modeling will not be successful in an organization that doesn't prioritize security!Tie threat modeling to the success of the business. See it as an enabler for the company, and define its success metrics clearly.Integrate threat modeling into the development process in an agile and incremental manner. It's not about where you start but where you end up. It's essential to begin with critical applications and expand the scope over time.Keep the Threat Model Up to Date. Threat modeling is a continuous process that adapts to new threats and system changes.Make threat modeling holistic and straightforward. Start after the high-level design phase, and revisit the model continuously throughout a product's lifecycle.Concentrate on domain-specific problems, which threat modeling is good at identifying. However, when identifying domain-agnostic issues, use automated approaches.Special Thanks to the following individuals who provided feedback for this episode: Iswarya Subramanian Balachandar, Kuldeep Kumar, Abdoulkader (Abdo) Dirieh, Rob van der Veer, and Tony Turner.

Nate enlists the help of a New Zealand journalist to find out. More about Outside/In presents The Underdogs: A few months ago, Outside/In host Nate Hegyi got a tip from the highest levels of the dog sledding community. It was about the first team from New Zealand to complete the Iditarod, a 1,000-mile race across some of Alaska's harshest terrain. Over the past decade, Curt and Fleur Perano have transformed their success on the trail into a flourishing mushing tourism business in their home country's south island. Some of their dogs have even appeared in a Marvel movie and a Taylor Swift music video. But behind the scenes, in the usually-guarded world of competitive dog sledding, the Peranos have burned bridges, destroyed friendships, and left a trail of debt totaling tens of thousands of dollars. In this special Outside/In mini-series, Nate investigates a story one musher describes as “one dead body away from Tiger King,” and exposes the singular culture within the world of elite mushing.Featuring: Amanda Hasenauer, Jodi Bailey, Jenn Fisher, Jeff Fisher, Tony Turner, Gemma Nave, Tim Brown SUPPORTOutside/In presents The Underdogs is made possible with listener support. Pandora Sykes explores the movement to liberate Britney from her conservatorship - and considers the future of fame In this eight-part series for BBC Radio 4, Pandora traces Britney's incredible life: from her hardscrabble childhood in rural Louisiana, to her coronation as the inaugural pop princess of the internet, navigating an insatiable celebrity gossip complex; through to a young mother on trial by the paparazzi. Britney is a pop culture phenomenon. Pandora looks behind that mask - and beyond Britney herself - to explore how Britney became the most Googled person in the world, for almost 7 years, and what it says, both then and now, about the entertainment industry, politics, sex and how we see women in the public eye. Britney's public struggles saw her placed in a conservatorship, that she remains in to this day, and in which she has lost the right to control her finances and day to day life. Today, as Britney fights to remove her father from his role as her conservator, we will look at how Britney has been transformed from girl-next-door teen sensation to pop music's Rapunzel, trapped in a supposedly rotten system. Pieces of Britney mixes documentary, archive and interviews to tell Britney's remarkable story. It also features drama, written by playwright Katie Hims, to bring Britney and her extraordinary world to life. Pieces of Britney will be a sympathetic portrayal of Britney, during a time of cultural reappraisal about how we treat women - famous, or otherwise. Episode 8 Cast: Britney . . . . . On 12 April 1961, cosmonaut Yuri Gagarin became an explorer like none other before him, going faster and further than any human in history, into what had always been the impenetrable and infinite unknown. Raised in poverty during the Second World War, the one-time foundry worker and a citizen of the Soviet Union became the first human to fly above the Earth in the vastness of space. In doing so he became an instrument in The Cold War – an ideological battle between the superpowers: East versus West, communism versus democracy. Dr Kevin Fong tells the story of how 27 year old Yuri Gagarin came to launch a new chapter in the history of exploration and follows the cosmonaut’s one hour flight around the Earth. The Soviet Union's triumph in 1961 was the event that galvanised the United States to win the Space Race: to send the first people on the Moon by the end of the decade. Yuri’s own ambitions to voyage to the Moon were frustrated by his political masters, a faltering Soviet lunar space program and two tragic accidents. As well as presenting archive recordings, Kevin talks to space historians and writers: Tom Ellis, historian at the London School of Economics Stephen Walker, author of ‘Beyond’ Slava Gerovitch, author of Soviet Space Mythologies’ and ‘Voices of the Soviet Space Program’ Andrew Jenks, author of 'The Cosmonaut who couldn’t stop smiling’ Cathleen Lewis, curator at the National Air and Space Museum Actor Stewart Campbell is the voice of Yuri Gagarin. Tony Turner is Soviet space program founder Sergei Korolev. Nicholas Murchie is General Nicolai Kaminin, head of cosmonaut training. Technical production is by Giles Aspen and Jackie Margerum. Co-writer and producer: Andrew Luck-Baker of the BBC Audio Science Unit. (Picture: Russian Cosmonaut Yuri Gagarin. Photo credit: Imagno/Getty Images.) First broadcast on Saturday 10 Apr 2021.

He offered some tips on scaling up diary studies, which tools he uses to get the job done, and how he uses the data he gathers from diary studies to build out customer journey maps. Highlights [4:03] Diary studies are all about context. [9:08] Tony talks about how he combines self reported data from diary studies with in-app analytics. [10:27] Using a mixture of open ended questions and closed ones is incredibly important to getting the most useful feedback. [12:32] Recruiting early is key in a dairy study because it gives you time to find the best participants for your work. [14:54] It's ok if every participant doesn't answer every prompt, as long as you're getting the moments that matter. [19:37] If diary studies seem intimidating, start small with just a few participants. You can hone your skills and get lots of great insights. [21:44] After each diary study, Tony and his team make individual journey maps for each participant that help them understand how different people experience the process. November 17th, 2019 - Experts tell us music is as old as humanity itself and found in every culture on earth. Somehow music is hardwired into the core of our being and essential to our existence. We instinctively know how music and song lyrics make us feel, but how does music and particularly song make a difference as we put our UU principles into practice? Using historical and recent examples, this talk explores how the power of song can unite minds and spirits to help influence and inspire hope in our quest for justice and societal change.

We also discuss a wide range of news items, and you can vote for which ones you want us to come back to for an interview or a more in depth look at our website each week! www.greenmajority.ca/vote_4_the_news This is a brief! We're in the home stretch of Election 42. Just a little under three weeks to go. We're not running out of things to talk about yet. Far from it. On today's show — 1. We hear from Amara Possian of LeadNow about their campaign Vote Together. It helps us figure out who we should vote for to get rid of Stephen Harper. Especially in the swing ridings where a Conservative upset is a possibility. 2. And you know how Stephen Harper is always going on about how he's the best manager of the economy? The Conservative government's reliance on austerity and trickle-down economics has led to the most poorly-performing Canadian economy since the Second World War, according to Jim Stanford. He's co-author of the recent report, “Rhetoric and Reality: Evaluating Canada's Economic Record Under the Harper Government.” Jim Stanford is an economist with Unifor. He spoke with Redeye host Jane Williams. 3. And finally, remember that Harperman song that everybody was singing a couple of weeks ago? You heard the song .. now … The Movie!  When Ottawa civil servant and folk singer Tony Turner created his now wildly popular singalong Harperman, he didn't anticipate getting suspended from his job. Since then, the song has spread. Harperman singalongs happened in over 40 communities across Canada on September 17. And people are still singing it. And now, there's not just a song. There's a documentary in the works — two versions — a short one which is planned for release two days before the election. And a longer, full 90-minute piece which will explore some of the larger themes. Cody Lanktree and his company HamiltonSeen is doing the documentary. He talked to me enroute to a shoot in Ottawa this week. Photo: Sean Connors/flickr

Paper Moon Radio Theater

A radio play produced by Paper Moon Radio Theater. Canberra was established as the Australian capital in 1913, though the government did not relocate there, from Melbourne, until 1927, when Parliament House was opened. Over the years it has grown out of the bush to become a vibrant city that is home to 320000 people. This play is not a history of the city; it is about a family and particularly, the relationship between a man and his father. The form is a “fictional” reminiscence, but the piece does use letters and articles from the 1920s and 1930s, as background. Written by Bart Meehan. Directed by Tony Turner. Cast: David Clapham,Rachel Clapham, Tony Turner. Sound Engineer: Tony Hunter Recorded at the Artsound Studio, Manuka
