Today's episode sounds the alarm as to whether our activist right-wing Supreme Court is ready to effectively overturn Roe v. Wade and essentially permit the entire state of Louisiana to all but ban the right to an abortion in that state. We're NOT an alarmist podcast, but this is something you need to be watching. We also follow up on the Trump Shutdown, answer a listener question regarding our discussion of the Hilton lawsuit from last episode, and (of course) take our weekly visit to Yodel Mountain, this time on the back of one Roger Stone. Are these all just "process crimes?" And what the hell does that mean, anyway? Strap in and find out! We begin, however, with a brief look at the end of the Trump Shutdown and what's likely to come next. After that, we tackle some questions and misperceptions regarding our story of the lawsuit against Hilton hotels from Episode 248. Then, it's time for the main segment, which takes a look at a pending Supreme Court motion and discusses what this means for the future of Roe v. Wade and the right to a legal abortion in this country. Yes, it really is that significant. Then, it's time for a trip to Yodel Mountain to discuss "process crimes" rapid-fire round of questions about Trump's shutdown. Why is Congress still getting paid? Who can sue, and why haven't they? Find out the answers to these questions and more! We end, as always, with a brand new Thomas Takes the Bar Exam Question #112 about murder most foul! The government shutdown has stretched on longer than any previous shutdown and Donald Trump was eager to address the American people and frame the debate. In this episode we break down his oval office address, where he was given air time by the major TV networks, as well as the much shorter Democratic response by Chuck Schumer and Nancy Pelosi. In this fascinating episode you'll learn: Donald Trump's new term for those crossing the border illegally, and why redefining it makes his argument more acceptable to his base How Trump's speaking style in his oval office address differs from the Trump rally speeches, what we hear and what we don't Mexico's indirect funding for the wall and the 'story arc' How he implies implicit approval by Democrats that we should build a wall (presupposition) Framing of creating a wall as a humanitarian disaster; suggesting the other side doesn't have empathy Trump's "love" for the people, personification and persuasive quotes Which part of the brain is Nancy Pelosi appealing to, and is it effective? Government Shutdown Continues, Tulsi Gabbard Announces - #FreedomFriday
The third season of the Trump Presidency kicked off with a big in 2019 with Trump forcing a government shutdown over Congress’ refusal to give him money for his core campaign promise of building the Border Wall, despite the fact that the original promise involved Mexico paying for it. With many government workers facing financial crises of their own due to not being paid, Congressional Democrats not budging an inch on the Border Wall and the Republicans refusing to bring on further votes because their leader will likewise not budge on a deal, the American Government is now at a stand still with no end in sight. Steve and Ben continue their coverage of the Trump Presidency and what this latest episode may mean in an historical context.
In episode 307, Jack and Miles are joined by comedian Candice Thompson to discuss the Bezos divorce, the government shutdown continuing and the Trump Administrations lack of understanding about it, Steve King's idiotic comments about white nationalism, the prediction that the US will drop to the third biggest economy, Facebook no longer being the best place to work, the Oscars deciding to go host-less, Taco Bell cleaning up their act, and more! Russell Vought took the helm of the Office of Management and Budget a little more than a week ago, after agencies began closing their doors. In just a few days, he has used his perch to make several controversial decisions aimed at blunting the impact of the partial government shutdown — moves meant to buy President Trump more time to drag out the closure, which is on the verge of becoming the longest in U.S. history. It was his decision to allow the Internal Revenue Service to pay tax refunds during the shutdown, something that hadn’t been previously allowed and that some Democrats called legally dubious. He was also involved in the effort to find money to pay food stamps in February, after it appeared that millions of Americans could lose the benefit.Vought wrote in 2016 that “Muslims do not simply have a deficient theology. They do not know God because they have rejected Jesus Christ his Son, and they stand condemned.”“I’m a Christian, and I believe in a Christian set of principles based on my faith,” Russell T. Happy New Year! There’s a new House majority in town, and their first order of business is forging a deal to reopen the government. Pressuring President Donald Trump to let go of his so-called border wall to end the shutdown may prove difficult, but Sam Berger and Jesse Lee—both senior advisers at the Center for American Progress and former officials in the Obama White House—are here for our first episode of 2019 to walk us through how we got here, why this shutdown is different from others in the past, and whom this political ploy helps (and harms).
Scott speaks with Rep. Steve Cohen (D-TN) who is a key member of the House Judiciary Committee, Rep. Steve Cohen from Tennessee, who will become the Chairman of its Subcommittee on the Constitution & Civil Rights after Democrats behind Speaker-elect Nancy Pelosi reclaim the House tomorrow. Rep. Cohen explained that leadership will decide when to file new Articles of Impeachment, but the House Judiciary Democrats plan to hold investigatory hearings right away over Donald Trump’s violations of the Constitution’s emoluments clause, which is why he says the President “continues to exhibit the need to be impeached.” He also explained the real political reason behind the Trump Shutdown. This week, the Damn Millennials discussed the impending "Trump Shutdown", the Trump Foundation being forced to dissolve, and Michael FLynn and the ongoing Russia investigation.
WASHINGTON — Defense Secretary Jim Mattis, whose experience and stability were widely seen as a balance to an unpredictable president, resigned on Thursday in protest of President Trump’s decision to withdraw 2,000 American troops from Syria. Mr. Trump announced Mr. Mattis’s resignation in two tweets Thursday evening, and said the retired four-star Marine general turned Pentagon chief will leave at the end of February. Officials said Mr. Mattis went to the White House on Thursday afternoon in a last attempt to convince Mr. Trump to keep American troops in Syria, where they have been fighting the Islamic State. He was rebuffed, and told the president that he was resigning as a result. Hours later, the Pentagon released Mr. Mattis’s resignation letter, in which he implicitly criticized his commander in chief. Mr. Mattis said in the letter that he believes that the president deserves a defense secretary who is more in tune with his worldview. Read More Here: https://nyti.ms/2QLHXkv

Trump really wants to 'shut it down!' and other things we've learned from that tense meeting with Schumer and Pelosi. And who is really to blame for all this? Recent Dems or old Repubs? Criminal justice reform just makes good dollars and sense. And maybe Minnesota republicans lost so bad because they were too 'Trump-like?' Also, there's a caucus block happening in Minnesota.

TARABUSTER EP. 72: The #TrumpShutdown Proves Again that Republicans are Unfit to Govern As Trump enters his second year in office with a government shutdown despite Republican majorities in Congress, it’s clear that Trump would rather play golf than do his job.
