“I have a hard time believing in love, that love just really exists, that you can love somebody. Then I feel like I have a hard time loving men and stuff, so I wouldn't want them to get hurt if they ever felt like I didn't love them.” - Tammy Murphy Episode Summary: In this episode of Unraveling Adoption, I had the privilege of speaking with Tammy Murphy, a Black, same-race, domestic adoptee living in Indiana. Tammy shared her struggles with social anxiety and dissociation, stemming from her adoption experience. She recounted how her adoptive mother's inconsistent responses to her questions about being adopted led to confusion and a sense of not belonging. Tammy also shared her journey of self-medication with substances like alcohol and marijuana to cope with her feelings of disconnect and identity crisis. Despite facing challenges in forming deep relationships and feeling a sense of authenticity, Tammy has taken steps towards healing. She recently started therapy and has begun journaling to identify triggers and coping mechanisms. Tammy expressed her aspirations to become an adoption therapist and to write a memoir titled Two to Forgive, focusing on forgiveness towards her birth mother and adoptive mother. Throughout the episode, Tammy emphasized the importance of honesty in adoptive families, early communication about adoption, and seeking therapy and self-help resources to navigate the complexities of adoption trauma.  ===============

Today is Thursday, so we have our weekly get-together with Howie Klein of DownWithTyranny.com and the Blue America PAC. Last week, you may recall, Howie brought along a guest --Jersey City Mayor and already declared-candidate for NJ Governor in 2025 Steven Fulop. The conversation concerned the race to replace corrupt Sen Bob Menendez from NJ. Fulop had reversed his endorsement of Tammy Murphy (wife of NJ's current governor who's being term limited out of office) in favor of Congressman Andy Kim. Hmm, Murphy dropped out of the race just a couple of days later.... Today, among other stories, I'll ask Howie about his experience with the former senator/would-be spoiler (via No Labels), and why his VP candidacy with Al Gore at the top of the ticket was the first time Howie didn't vote for the Democrats in a presidential election. --- Send in a voice message: https://podcasters.spotify.com/pod/show/nicolesandler/message

Another special election just delivered still more bad news for the GOP, but Democrat Marilyn Lands', well, landslide should really have Republicans quaking. As we explain on this week's episode of The Downballot, this was the first test of in vitro fertilization at the ballot box since the Alabama Supreme Court's ruling that imperiled the procedure, and Republicans failed spectacularly—with dire implications for November.Co-hosts David Nir and David Beard also examine the fallout from Tammy Murphy's shock decision to abandon her Senate bid and why Andy Kim's campaign has dealt a major blow to New Jersey's political machine. The Davids then explore whether the seemingly impossible might come to pass: Could Democrats take back control of the House before Election Day? Whatever the odds, Democrats need to be ready. Our guest this week is Lauren Baer, a 2018 congressional candidate in Florida who now runs Arena, an organization dedicated to supporting the next generation of campaign staff. Baer tells us about her group's work to train and place staff with campaigns, including how they help staffers weather the dry "shoulder season" between election cycles. She also warns about the huge GOP advantage in funding their talent pipeline and explains how Democrats can make up this crucial gap in campaign infrastructure.

If you're in politics, being outgoing, engaging and caring is part of the job. And these are the words often used to describe the Governor of New Jersey, Phil Murphy, and first Lady Tammy Murphy. But having been close to Phil and Tammy for as long as I have, I know this is truly who they are. In 2008, Phil was the finance chair for the Democratic National Committee and as Americans abroad, we supported the presidential campaign for Barack Obama. Phil and Tammy worked day and night traveling to London so often we thought they lived there. Our conversations then were always about society and politics, the sense of public service that runs so deeply in them. Their eyes, though, really lit up when we discussed their four children. In January, we sat down to have this conversation in the Governor's office in New Jersey; the state is deeply committed to, proud of and loves. And these are actually the very same words I would use to describe how I feel about Phil and Tammy Murphy. Committed, proud, two people I love.Listen to Ruthie's Table: Governor Phil Murphy & First Lady Tammy Murphy in partnership with Moncler.See omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.

The Rich Zeoli Show- Hour 1: 3:05pm- Rebecca Picciotto of CNBC writes: “President Joe Biden on Saturday signed Congress' $1.2 trillion spending package, finalizing the remaining batch of bills in a long-awaited budget to keep the government funded until Oct. 1. Almost halfway into the fiscal year, the president's signature ends a months-long saga of Congress struggling to secure a permanent budget resolution and instead passing stopgap measures, nearly averting government shutdowns.” You can read the full article here: https://www.cnbc.com/2024/03/23/biden-signs-1point2-trillion-spending-package.html 3:25pm- In response to the House of Representatives passing a $1.2 trillion spending package on Friday, Congressman Scott Perry (R-PA) publicly objected to money going towards “processing” migrants entering the country unlawfully instead of prioritizing security at the U.S. Southern border which would prevent their entry in the first place. 3:30pm- On Sunday, New Jersey First Lady Tammy Murphy announced that she was suspending her campaign for U.S. Senate. In a video posted to social media Murphy explained her decision: “I have been genuine and factual throughout—but it is clear to me that continuing in this race will involve waging a very divisive and negative campaign, which I am not willing to do.” You can read more here: https://www.politico.com/news/2024/03/24/nj-first-lady-tammy-murphy-to-end-senate-campaign-to-replace-bob-menendez-00148728 3:45pm- Ben Protess and William K. Rashbaum of The New York Times write: “With Donald J. Trump on the clock to secure a nearly half-billion-dollar bond in his civil fraud case, a New York appeals court handed the former president a lifeline on Monday, saying it would accept a far smaller bond of $175 million. The ruling by a panel of five appellate court judges was a crucial and unexpected victory for Mr. Trump, potentially staving off a looming financial disaster. Had the court denied his request for a smaller bond in the fraud case, which was brought by the New York attorney general, Mr. Trump risked losing control over his bank accounts and even some of his marquee properties.” While speaking to the press outside of the courthouse, Trump said he plans to pay the newly reduced bond in cash. And fairly regularly, Howie brings along a guest. It's usually one of the Blue America-endorsed candidates, but today's guest is slightly different. Steven Fulop is the Mayor of Jersey City. Tonight he'll deliver his 11th State of the City address. He's already announced his candidacy for NJ Governor; that election happens in November of 2025. So you might ask, "why today?". Well, that has to do with his endorsement in the race to replace corrupt Senator Bob Menendez (who hasn't yet announced whether he'll run for re-election. I think it's a safe bet to say if he did, he'd lose, badly.). Anyway, Mayor Fulop this week withdrew his endorsement of Tammy Murphy, the wife of NJ's current Democratic Governor Phil Murphy, and threw his support to Congressman Andy Kim. We'll discuss that and a lot more. But we open the show with a big breaking news story for which I must thank AG Merrick Garland! Soon we'll have the governor's race, where Steve Fulop, Ras Baraka, and Steve Sweeney have already joined, with more rumored to be eyeing the prize. It's a crazy time. That made me think: how much do WE here at NJITW know about the structure of NJ politics? I decided to put Nick and Mike (and myself) through some basic state focused civics quizzing for fun, to see where we're at knowledge-wise, and to encourage our listeners to go brush up on their related knowledge as well.Little did I know that at some point we would say a name that would set Bonadooch off on the most Bonadooch tirade this show has ever seen. Meanwhile, despite not being sanctioned by the Democratic National Committee and consequently awarding no delegates, President Joe Biden defeated Rep. Dean Phillips 55% to 20%. Biden did not appear on the ballot—citing New Hampshire's refusal to permit South Carolina from becoming the party's first primary state—though his supporters did organize an extensive write-in campaign. 3:20pm- During a CNN panel discussion, political commentator Van Jones reacted to Donald Trump's victory in New Hampshire—arguing that President Joe Biden's general election opponent has now been established. He advised Biden to “stay hidden” and let his surrogates campaign on his behalf. 3:25pm- After a five-day Covid-instigated weekend, Matt returns to The Rich Zeoli Show. The next race will take place in Nevada. Interestingly, Haley will appear on the state's primary ballot but will not participate in the state's caucus which means she will be ineligible to receive delegates in the contest. This leads Dom into a conversation about Tammy Murphy's run for New Jersey Senator, explaining the future detriment of further electing the Murphy family into office. Then, after playing Money Melody for the day, Dom returns to the topic of inflation, telling how he believes a Republican president can right the ship. Then, Dom welcomes in House Majority Deputy Whip Guy Reschenthaler back onto the show to take us inside Capitol Hill. Reschenthaler tells what's been happening on the Hill regarding multiple topics, honing in on the border and telling what Republicans are willing to concede, if anything, to receive their desires for border security. Then, Reschenthaler explains why he's been a proponent of a new bill re-writing what can be done about cold cases, professing his love for true crime that led to a crime in criminology prior to his election to public office. The Journalism Competition and Preservation Act (JCPA), introduced by Senator Amy Klobuchar (D., Minn.), would effectively make the local news industry dependent on the government for revenue, setting up a state-run media system that would induce any local paper to think twice about criticizing politicians who voted to stuff their bank accounts.” You can read the full article here: https://www.nationalreview.com/2023/11/the-link-tax-government-subsidized-state-media/ 3:40pm- According to data from the American Farm Bureau Federation, “this year's classic Thanksgiving feast for 10 will be $61.17, or approximately $6.12 per guest. This represents a 4.5% decline from historically high prices last year, driven by a decline in the price of the Thanksgiving dinner centerpiece—the turkey. Despite the year-over-year relief, the cost is still 25% higher compared to 2019, prior to the COVID-19 pandemic.” You can read economist Betty Resnick's report here: https://www.fb.org/market-intel/thanksgiving-dinner-cost-relief-but-still-high-relative-to-recent-years 4:05pm- New Jersey's First Lady Tammy Murphy formally announced her intention to run for U.S. Senate—challenging Sen. Robert Menendez (D-NJ) for his seat. Menendez has been charged with acting as a foreign agent for Egypt and with accepting bribes in exchange for influence. Is she using her symbolic office of First Lady to elevate herself to the U.S. Senate? During a press conference this week, Tammy Murphy promoted new legislation to expand doula care access in New Jersey. 4:15pm- Alastair Gale of The Wall Street Journal warns that new Chinese submarines, equipped with cutting-edge technology, can now rival U.S. submarine dominance. He writes: “Much of China's current submarine technology comes from reverse-engineering diesel-electric submarines bought from Russia after the collapse of the Soviet Union. Closer military ties between Moscow and Beijing in the wake of Russia's invasion of Ukraine have spurred concerns that Russia may be willing to share some of its advanced submarine technology with China, but there have been no clear indications of such transfers…Simulations of a Chinese invasion of Taiwan conducted by American military analysts often assume U.S. submarines would try to sink ships in the attacking Chinese fleet. The destruction of Chinese ships could help blunt the invasion and enable Taiwan to better defend itself, some of the simulations show, but a greater threat to U.S. submarines would complicate that task.” You can read the full article here: https://www.wsj.com/world/china/us-submarine-dominance-shift-china-8db10a0d?mod=hp_lead_pos8 4:35pm- David Zimmerman of National Review writes: “Elon Musk announced X will file a ‘thermonuclear lawsuit' on Monday against Media Matters for America after one of its reports prompted multiple corporations to pull their advertising from the billionaire's rebranded social-media platform. Musk, who owns X, took issue with the liberal media watchdog's story that claimed ads from top corporate brands were running ‘alongside white nationalist and pro-Nazi content.' The Rich Zeoli Show- Full Episode (11/15/2023): 3:05pm- On Monday, Governor Kathy Hochul (D-NY) announced that the state of New York will begin a massive data collection effort targeting social media accounts. Hochul explained the purpose of this new government surveillance program is “to counter some of the negativity and reach out to people.” Bizarrely, Republican presidential candidate Nikki Haley echoed a similarly disturbing sentiment regarding social media usage while appearing on Fox News—arguing that social media accounts should no longer be anonymous and that accounts need to be verified with the user's names and other identifying information. You can read more here: https://news.yahoo.com/nikki-haleys-crazy-plan-require-150320028.html 3:15pm- In response to Republican presidential candidate Nikki Haley's bizarre call for ending anonymity online, her supporters pointed to a tweet from Donald Trump on May 24th, 2013, where he joked: “It should be mandatory that all haters and losers use their real name or identification when tweeting—they will no longer be so brave!” An end to anonymity online would be disastrous. As Rich notes, the essays that comprise The Federalist Papers were written by James Madison, Alexander Hamilton, and John Jay under the pseudonym “Publius.” 3:30pm- On Wednesday, FBI Director Christopher Wray and Department of Homeland Security Secretary Alejandro Mayorkas testified before a House Homeland Security subcommittee. During the hearing, Director Wray conceded that individuals on the terror watch list may have crossed into the United States illegally. Congressman Michael Guest (R-MS) noted that in 2019, former DHS Sec. Jeh Johnson referred to 1,000 illegal border crossing “overwhelms the system.” With thousands of migrants entering the U.S. illegally on a daily basis throughout the Biden Administration, Rep. Guest asked Sec. Mayorkas how many crossing—in his estimations—would be considered overwhelming? 3:50pm- During Wednesday's House Homeland Security subcommittee, Congressman Michael McCaul (R-TX) quoted 18 U.S.C. Section 2 (a): “whoever commits an offense against the United States or aids, and abets, counsels, commands, induces or procures its commission, is punishable as the principal.” He then accused Department of Homeland Security Secretary Alejandro Mayorkas of “aiding and abetting” criminals that have exploited the Biden Administration's relaxed border security policies. 4:05pm- Pacific Legal Foundation Senior Attorney Brian Hodges joins The Rich Zeoli Show to discuss Sheetz v. County of El Dorado—a property rights case which will be reviewed by United States Supreme Court. The Pacific Legal Foundation writes: “The government can't hold the right to use your property hostage in order to extract exorbitant fees. That's akin to extortion… Permit fees must be proportional to the public costs imposed by new development. Otherwise, the government may leverage the permit process to take property it is not entitled to, skirting the Constitution's Fifth Amendment prohibition against taking private property without just compensation.” You can read more about the case here: https://pacificlegal.org/case/sheetz-permit-extortion-scotus/ 4:15pm- Joe Lancaster of Reason writes: “When a state gives away tax money to a private company in an attempt to sway its business decisions, the least that a taxpayer can hope for is some openness in the process. Unfortunately, the state of Michigan's economic development agency is actively preventing transparency, leaving questions on how the state plans to spend billions of taxpayer dollars unanswered.” Could Michigan lawmakers signing a nondisclosure agreements impact how those lawmakers vote? David E. Sanger and Katie Rogers of The New York Times write, “President Xi Jinping of China told President Biden on Wednesday that it was ‘unrealistic' for either of the two largest economic and military superpowers to expect to ‘remodel the other,' as both countries each tried, in their own way, to halt a downward spiral in their relationship.” You can read more here: https://www.nytimes.com/live/2023/11/15/world/biden-xi-apec-summit 5:15pm- New Jersey's First Lady Tammy Murphy formally announced her intention to run for U.S. Senate—challenging Sen. Voters say Kevin McCarthy shouldn't have been ousted and don't believe Democrats should have saved him. That pretty much leaves Kevin and the MAGA nimrods at fault for their recent fiasco. McCarthy double-crossed friend and foe alike, therefore it was logical to assume that he would continue if given a chance. For Dems, the decision was strictly business. As for the Freedom Caucus, they were handed a bazooka, and so of course the first place they'd aim it would be their head. A head isn't really something they would miss after all. Now, the Problem Solvers have a problem, and if moderates could find any heads, they would certainly make them roll. One of God's best ways of blessing us is by connecting our hearts with kindred spirits. That's exactly what God did for Leighann the week after Mother's Day when she and Tom spent a few days with their friends John and Tammy Murphy. It was after several good long walks that we decided that we had some good things to share with you! This podcast is filled with great advice related to caring for aging parents, loving our husbands well and learning to be good parents of our adult "children." This episode was created by Colin Carney, Sophie Fitzpatrick and Cassie Roddy-Mullineaux, LLM students in the Human Rights Law Clinic at the Irish Centre for Human Rights. The episode investigates the anti-fracked gas movement in Ireland and on the international stage. In this episode, Colin, Sophie and Cassie interview Johnny McElligott, a leading member of the North Kerry-based grassroots environmental campaigning group, Safety Before LNG. Johnny informs listeners about his work towards the prevention of the importation of fracked gas into Ireland and the construction of the planned LNG terminal on the Shannon Estuary. The podcast also includes other voices from the anti-fracked gas movement including those of Brian Cuthbert and Jessie Dolliver, active members of Not Here Not Anywhere. They share their extensive knowledge of the science behind fracked gas and its impacts on human health and the environment. They also share their thoughts on Ireland's future in terms of ‘energy security' and the anti-fracked gas movement on a European level. The students also speak to Tammy Murphy, Medical Advocacy Director for Physicians for Social Responsibility, Pennsylvania, who informs listeners about the harms that fracking inflicts on local communities in the US and explains why the issue is both transnational and urgent. This podcast episode accompanies the LLM students' work, with Johnny McElligott and Safety Before LNG as part of the Human Rights Law Clinic, to draft and explain the EU and international law justifications for a legislative ban on importing fracked gas into Ireland.
