RUN Medal Chasers has introduced a virtual race series dedicated to supporting some great charities as well as some of our favorite Marvel heroes! So we had to run a few of the races while we were visiting Walt Disney World. The Boardwalk and Epcot resort area is one of our favorite places to run. We did the "Ready.Aim.Run 5K" as our second race in that area while we were at Disney in September. This is the one we ran for time, so we ran separately but Dana was there to cheer me on at the end in addition to the random strangers applauding us! The race was hot and humid but the scenery was amazing. The charity attached to this one is Kidz Outdoors. This organization connects families through outdoor activities and raises funds for children battling diseases like cancer. We were so happy to support a great organization and to run a Hawkeye-themed race... plus the medal lights up! So fun! EAT It is no secret that one of our favorite areas in Epcot is Canada... that’s right... Canada! But we’ve never been to Le Cellier Steakhouse. Until September! We snagged a lunch reservation, but it was such an indulgent meal that we split an appetizer, entree, side, and dessert. Beef Bourguignon Poutine was an amazing starter. So rich and tasty, it is a must when coming here. Aimee loves steak... ribeye is her favorite cut! This version did not disappoint. The potato salad was warm, and a unique take for us that we want to try to reproduce at home! The Maple Whiskey-glazed Brussels Sprout enhancement we ordered was sweet and tender. Maple Crème Brûlée ... a yummy dessert!! DRINK Le Cellier Steakhouse gave us the chance to try new beverages in Canada too! Especially because we could walk back to our hotel! Normally we drink Moosehead Lager after a race or indulge in La Fin Du Monde if we are in the mood for a beer that packs a punch! But this meal gave us the chance to try a classic Canadian Cocktail, the Caesar. It is related to a Bloody Mary but includes clam juice... trust us; it does not taste like seafood! It is delightfully spicy with a horseradish and Tabasco kick... Dana had a classic version with vodka, and Aimee had a version with Canadian whiskey! Try this at brunch sometime or when you are at Le Cellier Steakhouse if you get a chance. Every five years, Texas conducts inspections of any practice that uses sedation. Some practices have recently undergone their initial inspections. From what I’ve heard, most have gone pretty well. Some are getting busted for things they consider nit-picky—like missing information on their preoperative checklist—but that the state board takes seriously. So in this episode of Talking with the Toothcop, Andrea and I chat about preoperative checklist requirements, the Electronic Prescribing of Controlled Substances (EPCS), as well as continuing education requirements. These are things you NEED to stay on top of—so don’t miss it! Outline of This Episode [4:10] Texas: Updates regarding sedation [10:34] Physical examination subsection C [13:09] Anesthesia-specific examination subsection B [13:48] Special pre-op considerations: pediatric or high-risk [15:25] Rules on equipment and use [16:24] EPCS: Electronic Prescribing of Controlled Substances [29:48] Continuing Education: Human Trafficking Training [33:17] How to keep everything straight The required preoperative checklist for nitrous oxide + sedation + anesthesia You can find the preoperative checklist in its entirety HERE. I’m referencing specific line items in this checklist that must NOT be neglected. Firstly, do NOT remove anything from the pre-op checklist. If you don’t heed this warning, the state board will make you fix it. At a minimum the preoperative checklist must include documentation of the following when applicable (summarized): Medical history (allergies, surgical history, review of family surgical history, medications) Confirmation that pre and post-operative instructions were delivered to the patient Medical consults were conducted if needed Physical examination and documentation (weight, blood pressure, pulse, respiration rate) Anesthesia specific physical exam (airway assessment, ventilation and respiratory rate) Pre-procedure equipment readiness check Confirmation of pre-procedure treatment review Special preoperative considerations as indicated for sedation/anesthesia administered to pediatric or high-risk patients. So where are things getting missed? The physical examination section clearly states that you must obtain: preoperative vitals, including height, weight, blood pressure, pulse rate, and respiration rate. This applies to every level of sedation, from nitrous oxide to general anesthesia. The issue that’s coming up most frequently during inspections is that dentists and their staff aren’t documenting the respiratory rate. Now, a lot of pediatric dentists are not taught that they’re required to document the respiratory rate. You may not be accustomed to it—but you need to start doing it. Not only that, but vital signs need to be recorded every ten minutes or less. It’s the rules. So is recording the height and weight of an adult patient every appointment. It may not feel necessary, but you can’t just say “It’s not that big of a deal because it’s only nitrous.” You have to comply with the rules to stay out of trouble. You must also make sure you’re recording the Mallampati score and/or Brodsky score. The state board is looking for how you verified the respiratory or ventilation rate. They want that to be clear (and it can be documented by observation, auscultation, or capnography). Keep listening to hear more about pediatric and high-risk patients as well as equipment and use instructions that are being missed. Want the latest version of my checklist? Shoot me an email at toothcop(at)dentalcompliance.com and I’ll happily share it with you. EPCS: Electronic Prescribing of Controlled Substances Electronic prescribing of controlled substances is already a requirement in many states. As of January 1st, 2021 Texas will join the list. It will require dentists, physicians, and healthcare providers to e-prescribe schedule 2 drugs. If you need help finding a prescribing platform that works best for you, I’ve linked many options below. But wait—don’t confuse this with your PMP responsibilities. According to the state board rule 111.2: “Each dentist who is permitted by the Drug Enforcement Agency to prescribe controlled substances shall annually conduct a minimum of one self-query regarding the issuance of controlled substance through the Prescription Monitoring Program of the Texas State Board of Pharmacy.” You can log in to PMP Aware to check your prescribing history to make sure there haven’t been mistakes. If you find something blatant, figure out if you need to address it. Another change? Until September 1st, you were required to do a 2-hour CE once every 3 years (use and prescribing in the course of dentistry). Now it’s an annual requirement to do the CE and a self-query check. Every time you issue a prescription it needs to be justifiable and you have to perform a patient history search—every time. What are the exclusions from this? Who can do the PMP check? What is the maximum you can prescribe? Listen to find out! Continuing Education: Human Trafficking Training Human trafficking is becoming a pandemic in its own right. Texas isn’t the first state to require it, but every healthcare provider—who is not a physician—is now required to complete a course on human trafficking. There are a lot of courses available online, but as of right now the state requires a Health and Human Services Commission approved course. It’s required training before your next license renewal. Are you wondering how you’re supposed to keep everything straight? How do you track all the training, continued education, and compliance measures you’re supposed to take? I’ve linked a detailed list below that should help you stay on track! This week on Episode 477 of Priority One --- We ‘Trek Out’ STAR TREK DAY. More specifically, we dive deep into the Discovery, Picard, Lower Decks, and Strange New Worlds panels and discuss what was discussed during their discussions! In Star Trek gaming, Scopely indulges in shrooms and Timeline celebrates Star Trek Day with Giveaways - and takeaways! Of course, as always, before we wrap up the show, we’ll open hailing frequencies for your incoming messages Let us know on social media like Facebook, Twitter, or by visiting our website! This Weeks Community Question Is: CQ: How did you celebrate the first OFFICIAL Star Trek Day? AND CQ: If you’re not currently playing Fleet Command, does new Prime Timeline content make you more likely to pick it up? TREK IT OUT by Jake Morgan Star Trek Day Star Trek fans are, sometimes, a bit entitled - and at Priority One we’d argue rightly so. Star Trek’s original series received a third season - and a ticket to syndication - because of a write-in campaign led by the incomparable superfans Bjo and John Trimble. Star Trek fans helped start the modern-day Mega-Convention when, in 1972, over 3000 Trekkies gathered at the Manhattan Hilton Hotel in New York City to celebrate our beloved franchise. We passed content droughts by writing fan-fiction and creating fan-zines - the precursor to the modern day internet fan-sites. Our unequaled enthusiasm helped spawn an animated series, a movie series, television spin-offs, more movie series, and even helped launch a network - UPN - and a streaming platform - CBS All Access. That’s not even mentioning the countless hours of reading, listening, and viewing content the community has generated - for absolutely free. We’ve even celebrated a couple of unofficial holidays. June 16th has long been recognized as Captain Picard Day - thanks to its appearance in the NextGen episode “The Pegasus”. And September 8th’s air date of Star Trek's first episode, “The Man Trap” - has been our unofficial Star Trek Day This year, the newly reunited ViacomCBS seemed to validate and recognize its fans by acknowledging September 8th, the most holy of Star Trek days - an OFFICIAL Star Trek Day! The day was spent streaming Star Trek - episodes, panels, and discussions - to celebrate the franchise. But it wasn’t PURELY a corporate advertisement. It celebrated the heart of the IP by once again instituting the StarTrekUnitedGives hashtag on its social media platforms. For every #StarTrekUnitedGives ViacomCBS received, the company would donate One US dollar to “Charities that champion equality, social justice, and the pursuit of scientific advancements”. This week we’re going to cover the virtual panels of the newest Star Trek series - Discovery, Picard, Lower Decks, and the upcoming Strange New Worlds. But first we want to know “Star Trek: Discovery” Panel Following a streaming schedule that featured episodes from the entire Star Trek catalogue, the team turned its focus to pre-recorded panels and interviews - and the first on the docket was “Star Trek: Discovery”. The panel was introduced by series lead Sonequa Martin-Green - who presented Discovery’s official Season 3 trailer - before handing the reins to host Mica Burton. Burton moderated a panel that featured Star Trek boss Alex Kurtzman, Discovery Show runner Michelle Paradise, and series new-comer David Ajala. A central point of the panel - and frankly the whole day - was hope in a time of despair. Alex Kurtzman discussed the state of the federation nearly 1000 years in Discovery’s future, and how Star Trek’s message today jives with Gene Roddenberry’s message from 1966. The team also discussed WHY the federation wasn’t in the position of power that Discovery had left it in the 23th century. In the trailer, “Book” - played by panel attendee and Star Trek newcomer David Ajala - notes that Starfleet suffered a decline during a period called “the burn”. Kurtzman explained its effect on the current state of the Federation https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TASfgIN4ZXA Discovery Introduces Star Trek’s FIRST Non-Binary and Trans Leads! This week, news broke that Star Trek was FINALLY introducing BOTH a Trans AND Non-Binary Character to the main cast of Discovery. Trek’s first non-Binary character - portrayed by Blu del Barrio - spoke with glaad.org about the role, saying ”When we meet Adira, they're suffering from memory loss. They remember nothing from their past, and very little about themself. They know they're non-binary, of course, but coming onto Discovery they're cautious about sharing that information with anyone. They're a private person, so they aren't going to divulge a lot about themselves to a ship full of strangers. It's not until Adira has found a place of comfort with Stamets and Culber that they feel they can talk about who they are.” Regarding the upcoming Trans character, Deadline reported “Ian Alexander will play the transgender character Gray, empathetic, warm and eager to fulfill his lifelong dream of being a Trill host, but he will have to adapt when his life takes an unexpected turn.” Photo Courtesy of Deadline Both characters were under TIGHT wraps during the panel, but Michelle Paradise was able to give a small bit of information regarding their roles! The panel is CHOCK FULL of great information - like why Discovery has a new Logo. Trek out the hope-filled trailer and hope-ier panel interview by heading to priorityonepodcast.com “Strange New Worlds” Panel We’re going to skip over a few panels this week and cover the “new” stuff coming down the...PIKE... Sorry We’d certainly suggest you trek out EVERYTHING offered on September 8th, but since OUR time is limited, we’re going to skip ahead to the history, and see what the “Strange New Worlds” crew had to say about the upcoming show and Star Trek’s future’s past! Mica Burton once again moderated the panel, this time with series leads Anson Mount, Rebecca Romijn, and Ethan Peck as well as series EP’s Akiva Goldsman and Henry Alonso Myers and writers Akela Cooper and Davy Perez. After some really interesting - and fun - anecdotes about how the show came to be, Series EP Henry Alonso Meyer discussed the format of the series. Davy Perez reinforced the “morals, messages, and meanings” of Star Trek’s storytelling in regards to “Strange New Worlds”. We may want to put that info into the “Mission Log”? Do not skip watching the full panel. Anson Mount recalling his conversation with an apple-eating-Alex-Kurtzman is worth the price of admission. We’ll embed the video on our website, so be sure to head over and trek it out! https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kY4RvbEGLFE “Star Trek: Picard” and “Star Trek: Lower Decks” Panels Star Trek: Picard’s panel was moderated by Wil Wheaton, starred Sir Patrick Stewart and Jonathan Frakes, and was titled “Picard & The Next Generation Panel”. So if you’re thinking “the news might not be groundbreaking”, you’re probably pretty perceptive. BUT that’s not to say Sir Patrick didn’t deliver. When asked about what’s to come, Stewart unleashed some pure hype. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0sSPajpSRiM Where things got interesting was the “Lower Decks” panel. Yes - we’re half-way through the season. But that doesn’t mean there isn’t more story to tell. Prior to releasing the mid-season teaser, showrunner Mike McMahon spilled some Trek-nuggets ripe for the dunking. The “Midseason” trailer shows the aforementioned “legacy actor”, and offers a look at the back nine of Star Trek’s newest animated offering. We’ll, of course, have a link in our show notes, so be sure to trek out both panels. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4jRSC8_lNCs Star Trek Gaming News by Shane Hoover and Thomas Reynolds Star Trek Fleet Command Hits The Space Shrooms Consider the following scenario: you have a successful Star Trek-themed mobile game set entirely in the Kelvin Timeline. You want to add content from Discovery (whose third season starts this October), but your game is Kelvin Timeline-only. And to not be Kelvin Timeline-only, you have to add that content from Discovery. That, captains, is called a Patch-22. Now we know 2020 has been...a bit much. Believe it or not, it’s only been two weeks since ViacomCBS gave Fleet Command developer Scopely free reign of the franchise’s TV and film content, and we weren’t expecting anything to follow so soon. Surprise! Fleet Command Patch 22, which Scopely announced on September 8th, will begin the game’s first Prime Timeline story arc in the era of Discovery. Michael Burnham, Stamets, Saru, and the NCC-1031 itself join Fleet Command’s playable roster, with new random Anomalies and story missions available through a Disco-specific Battle Pass. The patch will also improve the user interface for Battle Report storage and guarantees an Exchange Armada spawn rate in all Exchange systems. Star Trek Timelines Giveaways and Takeaways Fleet Command isn’t the only Trek game getting in on the Star Trek Day festivities. Until September 15th, Star Trek Timelines is bringing back player-favorite temporary achievements for increased grind rewards. However these achievements now have tiers, so the more tasks you complete, the more dilithium and premiums you earn. The Timelines team also put together a special version of their biweekly in-game care package, and took the time to share their thoughts on what working with the Star Trek property means to them. For Timelines Communications Lead Shan, Star Trek represents hope. Hope for a better world, a better future - one we can all have a hand in creating.

Since COVID-19 began ravaging the human race, Congress has passed three bills into law that are meant to respond to both the health care crisis and the financial crisis. In this episode, Jen highlights the first two laws in their entirety and the provisions from the third law that are most likely to help the most Americans - the cash payments and unemployment provisions. She also documents the process used to pass all three bills into law, because this is NOT the way Congress is supposed to function. We have some firing to do. Recommended Congressional Dish Episodes CD199: Surprise Medical Bills Bills HR 6074: Coronavirus Preparedness and Response Supplemental Appropriations Act, 2020 Document Text: HR 6074: Coronavirus Preparedness and Response Supplemental Appropriations Act, 2020 Summary: HR 6074: Coronavirus Preparedness and Response Supplemental Appropriations Act, 2020 Passed 415-2 in the House on march 4 (two no votes were two GOP’s I’ve never heard of) Passed 96-1 in the Senate. Rand Paul was the only person to vote against it There was no rules committee hearing because they passed it bypasses suspending the rules of the house (requires 2/3rds of the house to vote yes to pass) Trump administration requested $2.5 billion Title III: $2.2 billion for the CDC that they can use until September 30, 2022 Requires $475 million of the CDC grants to be spent in 30 days Some of this money can be used to purchase and insure cars in foreign countries Title III: $836 million for NIH that they can use until September 30, 2024 - which is money that can be used here in the states or abroad Only $10 million was required to be spent on preventing and reducing exposure of hospital employees, emergency first responders, and other workers at risk of exposure = 1.2% of the total bill allocation Title III: $3.1 billion for the Public Health and Social Services fund, also available until September 2024. This is the largest batch of money in the bill (although there are permissions to move money around so it could be more or less depending upon the whims of the Trump administration) Can be used in the US or abroad Can be used to purchase medical supplies Can be used to pay private companies to develop and then buy vaccines Vaccines developed with this money must be purchased by the Federal government in accordance with existing guidance on fair and reasonable pricing but the HHS Secretary may use existing law to ensure the public can buy them at reasonable prices, he doesn’t have to do so. HHS Secretary is Alex Azar who made his millions as the President of the US division of Eli Lilly - one of the largest multinational drug companies in the world. On his watch, the company tippled the price of insulin so… Without that “shall”, we have no reason to believe that there will be a cap placed on the price gauging. The HHS Secretary can’t do anything that would “delay the development” of vaccines The vaccines can be purchased and stored in the Strategic National Stockpile The law allows our tax money to be used to build or upgrade the facilities of private companies that produce vaccines - so our tax money can be used to build and upgrade buildings for the pharmaceutical companies Sec. 303: Until September 30, 2024, the law allows contractors to be hired for “the provision of personal services”, but they must be contractors as “such individuals may not be deemed employees of the United States”. According to the Code of Federal Regulations, the government is normally required to get employees by direct hire and getting services by contract is a way to circumvent civil service laws Title IV: Provides $250 million for the State Department’s “Economic Support Fund” and this money will be allowed to be used to “address economic, security, and stabilization requirements” related somehow to coronavirus This money is allowed to be given to "international organizations” Sec. 506: “Coronavirus” means SARS-CoV-2 “or another coronavirus with pandemic potential” Division B, Sec 102: Allows Medicare to pay for Telehealth services during an emergency HR 6201: Families First Coronavirus Response Act outline Document Text: H.R.6201 - Families First Coronavirus Response Act, Congress.gov H.R.6201 - Families First Coronavirus Response Act, Congress.gov Money: $500 million for food stamps $400 million for the commodity assistance program $250 million for “aging and disability services programs” - more than half is for “home delivered nutrition services” Sec. 1101: If a school is closed for more than 5 consecutive days under a public health emergency designation, families of children who are eligible for free or discounted school lunches will be able to get benefits valued at least as much as the school meals. The level of benefits will be determined by the Secretary of Agriculture (Sonny Perdue). Benefits might be distributed via the food stamp program - with money on EBT cards. Appropriates unlimited funding and at least $100 million for the territories. Sec. 6001: Page 5 appropriates $1 billion or “public health and social services emergency fund” to pay the claims of health care providers for "in vitro diagnostic products” (testing) of COVID-19. Health insurance companies “shall provide coverage” and “shall not impose any cost sharing (including deductibles, copayments” and coinsurance” for tests for the detection of COVID-19 or the administration of those tests “furnished during any portion of the emergency period” (which began on March 13th). This includes in person and Telehealth visits, urgent care center visits, and emergency room visits that result in the ordering or administration of a COVID-19 test. Loopholes: Doesn’t seem to apply to people who got tested before March 13th, because that would be outside the “emergency period” If a doctor doesn’t order a test because there is no test available, the visit would be eligible for copays, deductibles, etc. It can be billed like any ordinary visit. There are also sections that prohibit cost-sharing for people on Medicare, Medicare Advantage, Medicaid, people in the military, and veterans. Sec. 6004: The Federal government will pay 100% of the costs associated with States paying for testing for COVID-19 for uninsured individuals during the emergency period It’s not back dated Sec. 2301: Beginning in April 2020 and for each month end the month after the emergency declaration is lifted, work requirements for food stamps will not apply. Benefits can not be denied by States for people who had received food stamps for more than 3 months in the last 3 years while not working more than 20 hours per week, as is usually the case. Sec. 3102: Adds the COVID-19 public health emergency to the list of valid reasons that employees may get 12 workweeks of paid family and medical leave. To be eligible, you have to have been working for the company for at least 30 calendar days. The first 10 days are allowed to be unpaid days but the employee is allowed to use any accrued vacation leave, personal leave, or sick days. After 10 days, the employer “shall” provide paid leave for the following 10 weeks. The employee must be paid at least 2/3 of their regular pay, capped at $200/day and $10,000 total. For hourly workers, they will be paid based on the average numbers of hours worked per day for the 6 months prior. Employers required to provide leave are defined as someone with “fewer than 500 employees” instead of “50 or more employees”. Businesses with under 50 employees are exempt if the requirement could destroy the business. There are about 12 million private sector workers who work for companies with fewer than 50 employees and 59 million who work for companies with more than 500 employees - and 6.5 million of them have no paid sick leave. Not effective until April 2 Sec. 5102: Requires employers to provide paid sick time if the employee is subject to a mandated quarantine, has to self-quarantine for health reasons, is caring for someone sick with COVID-19, or if the employee’s child’s school or daycare is closed. Health care providers are exempt. Full time workers get 80 hours. Part time workers get paid based on the average amount of time they worked per day in the previous six months. The payments must be for the employees regular rate of pay if they are personally sick, no less than minimum wage, and 2/3rds their regular pay if they are caring for someone else. Payments are capped at $511/day and $5,110 total for sick employees and $200/day and $2,000 total for employees caring for children or sick family members. The paid sick time will not carry over to the following year and can’t be paid if an employee quits. Employers may not require employees to get their shift covered in order to receive their paid sick time. This is valid regardless of how long the employee has been with the company. Employer are not allowed to require employees to use their normally accrued sick time first. Employers can not punish employees for using their sick time. Employers who violate this law are subject to up to $10,000 in fines and up to 6 months in prison. Provision expires on December 31 Applies only to government workers and those working in companies with less than 500 employees. Businesses with fewer than 50 employees can apply for exemptions Sec. 4102: Gives States more money for unemployment insurance payments. Sec. 6005: Provides liability coverage to the manufacturers and distributors of personal respiratory protective devices subject to emergency use authorizations, including the one issued on March 2, 2020 and used in response to the COVID-19 public health emergency from January 27, 2020 through October 1, 2024. Sec. 7001 and Sec. 7003: Employers will be given a tax credit for 100% of the paid sick leave and paid family and medical leave provided to their employers, up to the limits in this law Sec. 7002 and Sec. 7004: Allows self-employed people to get a tax credit for the days they can’t work. The Secretary of the Treasury will write the regulation, including required documentation to be eligible H.R. 748: CARES Act Summary: H.R. 748: CARES Act Text: H.R. 748: CARES Act Record of House debate Vote Summary: Senate 96-0 on March 25 at 11:17pm Subtitle A: Unemployment Insurance Provisions Sec. 2102: Pandemic Unemployment Assistance Who qualifies: People who would qualify under existing State laws People who self-certify that are able to work except that the person has been diagnosed with COVID-19, someone in their home has been diagnosed with COVID-19, they are caring for someone with COVID-19, has a child whose daycare or school is closed due to COVID-19, can’t get to work because of a COVID-19 quarantine, their work is closed due to COVID-19, or they are self employed. People who do not qualify are people who have the ability to telework with pay or people who are receiving paid sick leave or other paid leave benefits Effective period: Beginning on or after January 27, 2020 and ending on or before December 31, 2020 Limits: No one can get unemployment benefits for more than 39 weeks, but this can be extended by the Secretary of Labor if needed Amounts: It’s the amount determined by your state’s unemployment law plus $600 per week if the state chooses to enter into an agreement with the Secretary of Labor. The Federal government will pay for 100% of the costs of the extra unemployment payments and the administration costs. It’s an unlimited appropriation and it’s valid until July 31, 2020. Sec. 2201: Issues a means tested “advanced refund" of $1,200 per adult and $500 per child. You only get the full amount as an adult if you make $75,000 per adult or less. People who make more than $75,000 per adult will have their check amount reduced based on their income up to about $100,000. People who make more than that will get nothing. The payment will be delivered via direct deposit to anyone who has authorized the IRS to do so since January 1, 2018 while everyone else will have to wait for checks. If we accidentally get overpaid, the IRS can’t charge us interest on that payment. The payments will be made for the 2019 tax year if you have already done your taxes for last year. If you haven’t, it’ll be based on 2018. They will send a notification in the mail to us about our payments to our last known address, which will tell us the amount and if it’s going to be delivered via direct deposit or by check. Presidential Address: Presidential Address on the Coronavirus Outbreak, White House, Oval Office, C-SPAN, March 11, 2020 Meeting: Rules Committee Meeting on HR 6201-Families First Coronavirus Response Act, United States House of Representatives Rules Committee, March 11, 2020 Watch on Youtube Transcript: 15:00 Rep. Tom Cole (OK): I understand, as I'm sure all members do, the gravity of the situation and the extraordinary times we're in. But I also must make clear that we learned a couple of days ago, through the press, mind you, that the Speaker's office was beginning to work on a bill. Just a few short hours ago, members of the Majority Party apparently received a closed door briefing on the contents of this package, and already was not given that same consideration. Text wasn't made available until 11pm. And now the Rules Committee is meeting to consider a rule that will provide for consideration on the floor tomorrow. 24:30 Rep. Frank Pallone (NJ): Whether you're in the Medicare program, Medicaid program, whether you're in the Health Service or you're getting your insurance privately or you have no insurance, we're trying to make sure that you can go and have the test done without having any cost. Whether it's deductible, a copay or just outright, not having to pay for it if you have no insurance. 25:30 Rep. Frank Pallone (NJ): But I did want to mention two things and that is for people who don't have insurance. There's flexibility in this. So the states can basically cover them through Medicaid or have them enrolled in Medicaid without having to meet the income requirements that we have now, and they would be tested and that would be paid for under Medicaid solely for the testing for the virus. 25:45 Rep. Frank Pallone (NJ): And then we also have a pot of money that goes to the National Disaster Medical System to pay for the uninsured. And so essentially, if someone goes to a community health center, for example, and they have no insurance, it would be covered with that as an example. 26:00 Rep. Frank Pallone (NJ): For those states right now, as you know, depending on the state and the level of poverty in the state, have to pay at a minimum 50%, or the federal government pays at a minimum 50 percent of Medicaid costs, and that's matched by the states, depending on the state. And so the F map provision increases that federal match by 8%. And this is for Medicaid in general. In other words, anticipating that a lot more people will have to be covered by the - go on to the Medicaid rolls. 27:00 Rep. Frank Pallone (NJ): The masks because they've been a lot of concern about that. And whether or not masks for healthcare providers would be available. As you know, the companies have asked for liability exemption. And that has been the case in the past when we've had other public health emergencies, like I don't know, all or some of the other things that we've had for vaccines and other things. So we do accept and extend that for a limited purpose. So if the mask is is basically approved by the federal government, and during the time of this emergency, as declared by the President under the prep act, there would be the liability exemption for for those masks so that we make sure that they're out there, and they're distributed. 28:00 Rep. Michael Burgess (TX): Like my ranking member on the Rules Committee, I do have some concerns about the process about how this came together. I just saw the text for the very first time when I walked in here I had a chance to read the first four lines on the first page. Look forward to reading more between now and eight o'clock in the morning. 31:00 Rep. Michael Burgess (TX): It's important that the vaccine be established as safe. I am old enough to remember, an episode of the swine flu during the Ford administration, where a vaccine was hastily developed, and its administration was mandated across the country, and some serious complications occurred. And we certainly don't want to repeat that. So once the vaccine has been established to safe Dr. Fauci has assured us that he will proceed with all dispatch to make sure it is effective, and it will be brought online as as quickly as possible. And I think we have provided the funding to allow them to do that. 36:00 Rep. Bobby Scott (VA): Comments have been made about how quickly this has been put together, we have an emergency and I don't think we have much choice. I'd like to spend a lot more time on the legislation but the more time we take putting it together and getting it out there, people will die. And so we've done it as quickly as we possibly can and everybody would like more time. 41:00 Rep. Virginia Foxx (NC): When I heard about this bill today I remembered something that well known democrat said, 'Never let a crisis go to waste.' But then I also remember the phrase 'act in haste and repent at leisure.' 57:00 Rep. Tom Cole (OK): It'd be a shame for us to leave, honestly, without doing something together for the American people. I think they're looking for that almost more than the individual items in the package. They really want to see us, in a time of crisis, put aside differences, find common solutions, common ground that we can agree on, and work together for their interest. And if we managed to do that, I think that'll not only be good in a time of crisis, I think it'll hopefully reinstill some confidence in the process and the institutions that we all are very proud to be part of, and remind Americans that, hey, we're in our very, very best when we're at a time of crisis. We really are. 1:04:00 Rep. Norma Torres (CA): Last week, at a meeting with the Export Import Bank chair Kimberly Reed stated that the US Commerce Department is still promoting the sales of critical supplies that the American people need. What are those critical supplies? masks, masks, hand sanitizer? How can you know what happened to America first? We need those critical supplies here. So part of what we need to do is direct these uninformed officials that the left hand needs to talk to the right hand. That may be the Commerce Department should be consulting with this new Coronavirus Committee that has been set up by the President. Those are the things that we cannot leave undone when we leave here this week. 1:10:00 Rep. Ed Perlmutter (CO): How many hearings have we had on the bill that we've had before us tonight? None. Zero. I mean, that's that is a problem. And I my Republican colleagues have complained about it, but I, as a Democrat want to complain about it too. Because there's no question we have an emergency. Part of our emergency is we want to try to get out of here by tomorrow afternoon, or this afternoon. Okay, I mean, we're setting our own deadline here. Isn't that true? Am I mistaken on that? Rep. Frank Pallone (NJ): Well, look, I'm a big advocate for regular order. We don't always fall well. This is about as far for you're not gonna have you can't have regular order when you have an emergency. I mean, you know, it would for us to go. Rep. Ed Perlmutter (CO): And Mr. Chairman, I appreciate that. But I guess I would say is okay. Why aren't we doing this? You know, Friday. Today's what? Thursday? Now that we're - 12:15 Thursday. Okay, so I just want to get that out of the way. 1:14:00 Rep. Ed Perlmutter (CO): Well, these things are emergencies. Clearly the testing. But I thought part of the testing was what we did last week. Rep. Frank Pallone (NJ): The testing is essentially the authorizing language. In other words, it's not the it's not the spending. What we're saying is that, you know, whether it's federal programs like Medicaid or Indian Health Service, or it's private insurance or for the uninsured, we want to make sure that everybody can have the test and not have to pay for it not have to have any copay, deductible, or out of pocket expenses. That's what we're doing with that. Rep. Bobby Scott (VA): And some of this ought to be done anyway. I mean, if you're taking a vaccine that should be under prevention, and should be on the most plans, no copay and deductible. So it's not it's not a new idea. Rep. Terri Sewell (AL): And what we did last week was to authorize, give the money to states to actually purchase and have these kits on hand. So what we're doing now is for individuals to make sure that the individual who's trying to see testing actually it's free of charge. Whether have private insurance, government insurance or no insurance, that the testing would be free. Rep. Ed Perlmutter (CO): All right, so would have last week's bill would that have covered the protective gear for the health providers and the tents and the ventilators that we try to separate? Rep. Terri Sewell (AL): Yes. Rep. Ed Perlmutter (CO): Okay. Rep. Michael Burgess (TX): About the ventilators. And that's a very good question. We, we can understand that perhaps, on the testing, there were things could have been done better. Can you anticipate what the next part of this crisis will be? If you look at the experience in some of the other countries, the next part of this crisis is going to be an overwhelming load of patients in acute respiratory failure, presenting to hospitals, needing ICU beds needing ventilators. I don't know if we have the capacity. I don't know if anyone has done a survey of unused military facilities that might be available. I don't know if as part of the Ready Reserve, some One has looked into it. Again, that would be one of the questions I would have asked had we had a hearing. But I do think if we want to think over the horizon, we do need to think about the significant number of patients who could be in acute respiratory failure and the stories, and I realize you're reading them online, I'm reading them online. I don't know if they're true. But the crowd out of people with other medical conditions who show up at the hospitals who can't be seen, acute appendicitis now can be a fatal event, because everyone else is tied up taking care of people who are dying of pneumonia. So it is something we need to think about. I don't know if we've addressed it in this bill. I don't think we addressed it in the appropriation last week. 1:30:00 Rep. Michael Burgess (TX): People have spoken about testing at no cost to the patient. I think that's fine. I think it's a great idea. Do remember someone has to administer the test. There has to be overhead paid for the personnel to be in the office to administer the test. Someone has to pay the liability insurance if the test is reported incorrectly, and someone is going to have to report the test to a patient, that tested is positive, someone's got to do the follow through because now a doctor patient relationship has been established. So we do need to think about that. I'm not objecting to what has been described here tonight, but it just it seems to me that it's incomplete. 1:31:00 Rep. Frank Pallone (NJ): And could I say I'm not going to suggest that that everything that the Dr. Burgess mentioned is covered. But it's not just the test. It's also the provider visit, you know the visit of the patient that provided this cover and also without charge, but...I'm not saying that covers everything, but a lot of the things that he mentioned, it's not just the test. It's also the actual visit and the provider. It's Derby Days at Banc of California Stadium, and all eyes of the MLS world descend on downtown Los Angeles for the showdown between LAFC and Carson. The most anticipated game of the year is finally upon us, and you can hear all about it here on Episode 56 of Defenders of the Banc!Vela vs. Zlatan. Bob vs. Schelotto. Olly vs. Gizmo. This isn't the undercard to Wrestlemania; this is the Battle for Los Angeles, the ultimate test for the Black and Gold. Unfortunately, a mere 2 minutes in, LAFC already finds itself down a goal off the foot of the hated Lion of Carson. In what would be his best performance of the season, Latif would score his first goal of the night just 10 minutes later to knot it at 1. Two stunning goals by Carson just 4 minutes later would throw the Banc into disarray, but instead of folding, staying down, and calling it quits, LAFC responded in a huge way. A brace for Latif right before the half would be just the bit of fresh air that we would need, and right after the halftime speech from Bob, the future MVP, Carlitos Vela, found the equalizer! Though the game would end in a tie, Filly and the Scarf choose to look at the many positives that can be taken both from this match and from the history to soon be made. We inch a little closer to our first Western Conference crown, to the Supporters Shield, and home field advantage throughout the playoffs. We also move ever closer to our match against Minnesota on September 1, kicking off Kick Childhood Cancer Month in the MLS. Hear all about the Defenders' plans to help raise as much money as possible in the fight against this awful disease. Filly quotes John Lennon while Scarf quotes Shakespeare! There is a Natalie Portman sighting in Founders Club! And both The Captain, Kareem Abdul-Jabbar, and Guns 'N Roses make appearances before the match! It was a long and winding road that led us through this episode, and we hope you enjoy it as much as we did making it for all of you. Until September, Defend the Banc!

Kim and Tamara are back from 10 days in Ireland and giving listeners the 411 on their trip. Tune in to hear about their adventures in Dublin, County Wicklow, Waterford, Kilkenny, Belfast, Derry, and the Coastal Causeway. Plus, Game of Thrones fans will love to hear about some of the filming destinations and experiences in Northern Ireland. ON THE PODCAST 00:30 - Talking with Kim and Tamara about adjusting from jet lag 03:07 - Driving in Ireland 07:10 - Guinness Storehouse tour in Dublin 11:36 - Dublin attractions 19:38 - County Wicklown in Ireland's Ancient East 25:50 - Wexford 28:04 - Waterford 34:50 - Kilkenny 40:40 - Waterford Greenway 47:00 - Game Of Thrones boat trip 58:20 - Belfast 1:10:10 - Causeway Coast 1:16:28 - Giants Causeway 1:19:50 - Derry 1:27:30 - Final Tips TIPS FOR VISITING IRELAND Ideally when visiting Ireland you would self-drive or hire a driver so that you can stop where you want and take your time exploring areas. The roads can be a little challenging and narrow, especially if you aren't used to driving on the left. You could definitely rent a car and drive around to explore more than the area you fly into. But when renting a car for your family you must keep in mind that the bigger the car the harder it will be in some areas to get around. Touring the Guinness Storehouse is a lot more than just seeing the beer being made. There are four restaurants and two bars. They will teach you the correct way to pour a Guinness and there is also a spot where you can get a picture of you on the head of your beer. Dublin is a young city in terms of population and a very walkable city to explore. The Ancient East area of Ireland is not far from Dublin and there is a lot of history in the area. Glendalough is an area with monastic ruins and two lakes that is very popular with visitors. There is a famine ship in Wexford and in Dublin. You really learn a lot by visiting just one of these ships but if you have a chance to tour both, you can see the differences and compare the stories and conditions. Waterford is Ireland's oldest city dating back to the vikings. There is much more to Waterford than the crystal. Though if you visit the Waterford Crystal there is a style that is only made for Ireland, so if you are going to buy a piece of crystal you should get that as it will be unique. Jerpoint park in Kilkenny has some great places to explore. There is an apple orchard that makes different products out of their apples. There is also a glass blowing studio that you can visit. Waterford Greenway is a really pretty biking trail, and if you continue you can explore Mount Congreve Gardens which is a very beautiful garden that has a lot of different walking paths. North of Dublin in the Boyne Valley, you can take a Game of Thrones boat tour with Boyne Boats. Game of Thrones fans should also visit Castle Ward for the Winterfell Experiences. You get to visit the area that is the backdrop for Winterfell in the beginning seasons of the show. You can dress up in the costumes and try out archery and axe throwing and maybe even meet a dire wolf. Downtown Belfast is very safe and walkable, with restaurants and bars. You wouldn't know about the Troubles that tore the city apart unless you visit the Peace Wall or the Catholic or Protestant neighborhoods. In the Titanic Quarter in Belfast, you can visit the Titanic Museum and the Titanic Hotel. Until September 2019, there is also a Game of Thrones touring exhibition in Belfast where you can see costumes and props used in the show. The Carrick-a-Rede Rope Bridge is in a gorgeous area. Keep in mind that they will close the bridge depending on the weather. You also need to stop at the first little booth to get you ticket for the bridge. They will not sell them at the entrance to the bridge. Giant’s Causeway is another beautiful site. Give yourself plenty of time to walk along the coast and there is even a path to walk up towards the cliffs and see another view of the coast. Derry is a walled city that has two sides that has a bridge that crosses to both sides called the Peace Bridge. There is some really great food all throughout the city. Make sure you leave extra time for the security in the airport when traveling through Dublin. There will be two seperate security areas that you will have to go through to get back to the US. Make sure to pack and wear layers throughout your trip. With the temperatures changing through the day you will want to shed or put layers back on. Until September, you’d be forgiven for not knowing much about Senator Amy Klobuchar. A Democratic senator from Minnesota since 2006, Klobuchar made national headlines over her frank questioning of the Supreme Court nominee Brett Kavanaugh’s history of drinking. She then ran for reëlection in November and won by a twenty-four-point margin. Klobuchar’s opponent was the Republican Jim Newberger, but, like many Democrats, she really ran against Donald Trump. While Trump’s rural support throughout the country is generally quite strong, Klobuchar tells the staff writer Susan B. Glasser that the President’s character issues helped her in rural areas of her state. “You have to go to the core of, what kind of person do you have in the White House that your kids watch on TV when they’re learning their civics lesson and the Pledge of Allegiance?” she asks. “Who do you want speaking to them?” As many as ten Democratic senators, including Klobuchar, are considered likely Presidential candidates for 2020, though she tells Glasser only that she is “considering” a run. She is adamant, though, that any Democratic victory requires an appeal to voters in the Midwest—a region that turned to Trump in 2016. She tells a story about her husband, one of six children who was often at risk of being forgotten at the gas station on family road trips. “The Midwest was left at the gas station” by Democrats, she says, “and we’re not going to let that happen again.”

Until September 11, 2001, one aviation accident between two 747s was the deadliest aircraft crash by far, and only one of the planes just barely managed to make it off the ground. On March 27, 1977, everything that could go wrong did go wrong, one after another, leading to a deadly crash which left one group of prospective vacationers scrambling to escape a burning wreck.
[itvt] is pleased to present an audio recording of the TVOT SF 2017 panel session, "How to Mobilize a Content Team." The session was described in the show brochure as follows:"The content marketplace is unstable terrain, and our industries rely on visionary talent to imagine its new frontiers. The problem: we rely on anachronistic methods when we organize our content teams around old processes, homogenous perspectives, and echo-chamber logic. In the era of fragmented attention, how do we recruit and manage teams that generate novel and compelling stories? How do we cultivate creative intuition without straitjacketing it into reductive, pseudo-industrial procedure? And in what formation must our content teams position themselves to be resilient and adaptive, as tastes, technologies, and ways of watching proliferate or evaporate altogether? Invited to this panel are leaders at the vanguard of digital content, whose collective experience has generated billions of views: together, their work represents a movement that already rivals the reach of the Gutenberg Bible. Their diverse sets of experience prime them to discuss the possibilities and perils of team-building in times where nothing is certain." Panelists included:Michael Gaston, CEO, Cut.com (Moderator)Aaron Godfred, VP of Content and Partnerships, OmazeWeston Green, VP of Video, DoseMatthew Levin, CEO, Donut MediaChad Mumm, VP of Vox Entertainment/Creative Director, Vox Media (Note: We have just announced that our next event, TVOT NYC 2017, will take place December 7th. Until September 12th, tickets will be available at the Super-Early-Bird price of $675. Purchase your tickets here.)

Chris Spivey is a researcher and writer from Britain. A tee-total tattoo artist by trade, Chris writes for The Sovereign Independent and runs the hugely popular www.chrisspivey.co.uk website. Until September 11th 2001 Chris was content to go along with the status quo. However following the attacks of 9/11, he was forced to question everything that he had learned up until that point. The more he researched, the more he came to realise that we have all been sold a lifetime of lies. Chris believes the world today is a very dangerous place indeed and that those in Government are not acting for our benefit but instead seek to do us harm. The vast majority of his writing focuses on exposing these wrongs and bringing hidden information to a wider audience. With this in mind he chats to John about the Boston bombings, the Woolwich killings, Britain and the British establishment and much more.
