Join us on Patreon, watch us live, and never listen to another ad ever again! www.patreon.com/savannahunderground Eenie tells about her terrifying experience at The Villisca Ax Murder House. The Villisca Axe Murder House has a dark and detailed history, steeped in mystery and tragedy. The events of that fateful night in 1912, and the subsequent investigation, have left many questions unanswered, contributing to the lore and intrigue surrounding the house. On the evening of June 9, 1912, Josiah B. Moore, his wife Sara, and their children Herman, Mary Katherine, Arthur, and Paul, along with two friends of Mary Katherine, Lena and Ina Stillinger, settled in after attending a church event. Sometime after midnight, an assailant or assailants silently entered their home. Each victim was bludgeoned to death with an axe, which belonged to Josiah Moore, indicating they were likely asleep when attacked. The killer or killers used the blunt end of the axe on the victims, and the murders were characterized by their overkill nature, suggesting extreme rage or a deeply personal motive. The investigation into the murders was extensive but flawed from the start, with the crime scene being compromised by curious townsfolk and inadequate forensic methods of the time. Several suspects were considered: Frank F. Jones, a Villisca resident and Josiah Moore's former employer, was rumored to have a grudge against Moore over business disputes and personal issues. William Mansfield, another suspect, was believed to have been hired by Jones to commit the murders, but he was later released due to lack of evidence. Reverend George Kelly, a traveling preacher, was in town the night of the murders and had a history of mental instability. He confessed to the murders under pressure but later recanted. His two trials ended in a hung jury and an acquittal. Numerous theories have been proposed over the years, including robbery gone wrong, a serial killer (as similar murders occurred in the region around the same time), or a crime of passion. None have been definitively proven. The house is now listed on the National Register of Historic Places and operates as a museum. It attracts visitors from around the world, particularly those interested in the paranormal. Many claim to have experienced strange phenomena such as visions, sounds, and ghostly apparitions, believed to be the spirits of the murdered family and their guests. In the 1910's, ax murdering was in. Maybe the most famous incident of this occurred in Villisca, IA where 2 adults and 6 children were killed. The murderer was never caught, but today you can spend the night in this house yourself and see if any spirits urge you to stab yourself. Or maybe not. We go over our theories about the suspects and even a possible unsolved serial killer case!

This episode we talk about the Villisca Ax Murder House. And although in the grand scheme of things there isn't to much info about this case, other than the hauntings, crime scene evidence, and dead end suspects, its still so intriguing. Once there was a family who thought they lived in a quiet town where they could trust anyone, turns out that exact trust to gave out, is what got them killed by an intruder. And in the end, the murder and the motive are unclear. Enjoy.
Join me as we explore the case in the small town of Villisca Iowa that is still debated about to this day. YouTube Channel Link https://youtube.com/channel/UCMaKNkQr1NBaJm5TKtXOl7Q
On this episode we are joined by Jill Shelley and Teresa Christensen St. Croix Paranormal out of Minnesota to discuss investigations they have been on at Villisca Ax Murder House, Ashmore Estates and many more. PART 2 - LIVE! The Villisca Axe Murder house has become sort of a novelty in American folklore…. A place to visit, a place where people try to challenge the ghosts of the past to show themselves….. a place where people giggle – and pose for silly pictures, joking about hauntings……. a place and time that we are so far removed from, that we seem to have sort of forgotten that the Villisca Axe Murders were REAL. An absolutely beautiful family was annihilated here. 6 sweet little children, ranging in age from just 5 years old to 12, tragically and painfully lost their lives. This house is haunted… by ghosts?… I don't know….but definitely by the true & tragic reality. There's a very real and very sad energy left behind in The Villisca Axe Murder House. It's an energy that you can feel – and as our recordings show, one you can hear. Truecrimeirl.com Insta @truecrimeirl TrueCrimeIRL is written, produced, and hosted by Kelli Berens-Brink. In 2019, four eager paranormal explorers traveled to the small town of Villisca, Iowa in search of a murder house. They found it, but what found them? They still can't explain to this day. Join Amy, Ryan, Jody and Daryl as they take on the Villisca Ax Murder House! Infamous for the 8 brutal deaths of the Moore family and the Stillinger girls in 1912. Everything you see here is the truth.
Hallo-week Episode 3: Back in the 1900’s, the town of Villisca, Iowa was just starting to come onto the map. A thriving town, it wasn't long before the Moore family set down their roots. What was once a “pretty place” would soon hold a house of nightmares. Even to this day, there are many unanswered questions about what truly happened at the Villisca Ax Murder House.
Where's the one place in the world you'd like to feel the safest? Your bed, right? And in a secure home that surrounds that bed. We also become nostalgic for what we think was a simpler and more wholesome time. The atrocities we've become accustomed to hearing about on our current nightly news, we imagine inconceivable in bygone eras. But the truth is, we've always been vulnerable to the brutality of the waking world, no matter the times or the place. The darkest evil can come to find us wherever we lay our heads. One average family in America's Heartland at the turn of the century would experience this as their peaceful dreams turned into a nightmare. On the evening of June 9, or early morning hours of June 10, 1912, a depraved murderer had entered the home of the Moore family in Villisca, Iowa. He savagely crushed the skulls of Josiah Moore, his wife Sarah, and their four children with an ax as they slept. Also killed in the same fashion were Lena and Ina Stillinger, young sisters who just happened to be spending the night. The memories of this gruesome crime and the spirits who endured it would remain with the house. This horrific act of violence would leave its mark on the town and the Moore home, forever branding it the "Villisca Ax Murder House." In this special Halloween episode, we tell you all about the lore of Halloween, along with some places to visit regarding witches, vampires, and ghosts. Learn the origin of the witch's broom and all about the New England Vampire Scare. And finally, hear about the haunted Villisca Ax Murder House!
In a quiet neighborhood, just a few blocks away from Villisca's downtown, stands a very ordinary looking white frame house. The crime that took place here was anything, but ordinary. Six children and two adults would go to sleep on the evening of June 9th in 1912 and never wake up. A neighbor and family member would find the six members of the J.B. Moore family dead, along with Lena and Ina Stillinger. The crime scene was horrific and bloody since all the victims were killed with an axe. The murders were never solved and justice never came. We featured the house back when the podcast first launched in October of 2014 on episode 7. I never imagined that I would eventually visit and tour the house, much less spend an evening sleeping inside. Join myself, Kelly and three listeners on this investigation of the Villisca Axe Murder House. Tonight we have paranormal investigator, podcast/internet radio show hostess, and more, Denise Pridemore!Bio:Denise Pridemore is originally from Baltimore and lived in Virginia, New Jersey, Arkansas, Missouri and settled in Eastern Kansas. She has been having paranormal experiences since her earliest memories. She has a lifetime of experiences paranormal, intuitive, and real life. She has been seeking answers to the paranormal since she can remember, but recalls a time when talking about the paranormal, premonitions, and supernatural phenomenon was taboo. “Don’t talk about that stuff, people will think you are nuts. They will lock you up!”Denise and her husband, Ron, decided they wanted to start investigating, and their daughters were all interested, as well. They talked about it for years after going on multiple ghost tours, and public investigations, in 2009 they made it official, after a family reunion trip to Iowa. They had always wanted to go to the Villisca Axe Murder House, especially after seeing it on “Most Terrifying Places in America.” Due to the Missouri River flooding they were sent on a detour, through the back roads, and came across Clarinda, IA. “How far is Villisca from Red Oak?” Denise asked. Ron, “Has to be up north, I don’t ever recall seeing it.” Three minutes later they see a sign, “Villisca 9 miles.” They stopped and took a couple pictures with the intention to see if they could see it on the return trip home. They went on to the family reunion and shared the creepy photo from Villisca and that was when they found out that Oren Jackson, the sheriff during the Villisca murders was Ron’s great Grandmother’s brother. They went back on Sunday, met Darwin Linn and Johnny Houser, and they shared with them the photo from the trial with Oren Jackson. That day, the whole family had experiences that changed their lives. Lauren, their third daughter, saw a full body apparition walk past her into the attic from the parents’ bedroom. Leigha, their youngest, heard children talking and felt like she made friends with Lena. Denise had a connection with the mother and something dark, she assumed it was the killer. Ron witnessed changes in his family that he had never seen before, he is a skeptic and did not understand, but was completely intrigued. Pridemore Paranormal was started as soon as they came home and they have been busy ever since.Denise and Ron were volunteers for the Atchison Kansas Chamber of Commerce during their Haunted Season, September through the first week of November at the Infamous Sallie House from 2012 to 2017 (6 seasons). They also hosted public investigations at the PepperMill Restaurant, formerly known as the River House, former brothel. Due to the experiences Denise has had at the Sallie House, she was asked to be on Ghost Adventures to give the guys a tour. EPISODE 97: KING OF HALLOWEEN COUNTING DOWN TO HALLOWEEN 2018 Horror baker Andrew Fuller is the king of Halloween! Andrew is a contestant on Food Network’s Halloween Baking Championship, season 4 and our esteemed spooky guest on Episode 97: KING OF HALLOWEEN. Horror author T. Fox Dunham and Andrew hang out during the episode, talking about his wonderful macabre baking and what it’s like to be on Halloween Baking Championship. Andrew shares his past, his motivation for baking and his great love for Halloween while sipping blood tea. The master baker shares several unique ideas for Halloween-themed baked goods our listeners can make at home. We also tell another ghost story to set the Halloween tone just right. A rebellious teen arrives late at a babysitting gig only to find her charge missing. Searching for her at a derelict home, she finds the wrong child—a dead child wearing old clothing. David Walton narrates this true ghost story, Babysitter Blues. Oh! And Andrew also hunts ghosts in his free time, when he’s not baking or on Food Network, and he and his husband have had many encounters with the other side. Andrew shares some of his ghost stories including a spooky tale about a decapitated head that appeared to him in his husband’s grandmother’s attic. And he talks about their paranormal investigation at the infamous Villisca Ax Murder House, location of the brutal murder of a family. Fox joins in with some recent ghost encounters while visiting Gettysburg with his wife this weekend and Pennhurst Asylum. Andrew is a delightful and spooky guest, and Fox adores speaking to him. Cheer Andrew on Food Network’s Halloween Baking Championship! They finish the show with a techno song about Halloween from Baltimore’s Red This Ever: I Like Halloween. So do we! We talk these notorious murders and hauntings Top Hour 2; Hour 1, Joel and Eric review the week’s oddest True Crime news and chase off dark thoughts. The Villisca Ax Murder House – Villisca, Iowa By the turn of the 20th century, small towns lined the railroads that traversed America. Villisca, Iowa was one of these places, the epitome of “small town America”: safe, friendly, and community oriented – a good place to raise a family. Local lore claims “Villisca” means “pretty place” or “pleasant view,” but Native Americans of the Sauk and Fox tribes offer a more sinister etymology. Derived from the word “waliska,” its name means “evil spirit.” On the evening of June 9, 1912, the Moore family — Josiah (43), Sarah (39), Herman (11), Katherine (10), Boyd (8), Paul (5) — and overnight guests Lena Stillinger (11) and her sister Ina (8) attended a highly anticipated children’s program at the local Presbyterian church. The program ended late, after 9:30 pm. The town of Villisca was dark. There was no moonlight, and a dispute between the municipal power company and city officials had resulted in the streetlights being turned off. The Stillinger girls, afraid to walk alone through the darkened streets, telephoned home seeking permission to stay with the Moores. The family and their young guests made their way home and settled into bed sometime around 10 pm. When the sun came up Monday morning, a neighbor doing her wash noticed how unusually still the Moore house was. By the time the clock struck 7 am, curiosity turned to concern and she telephoned Ross Moore, Josiah’s brother. Ross telephoned the house
