Episode Synopsis: Is The Matrix saga simply a series of blockbusters that spawned an entire franchise, or has it been the catalyst of mass mind control for millions of people over the past 25 years? We talk about this and much more, including: Did Sophia Stewart really write, not just The Matrix, but the Terminator series as well? What is it about The Matrix that led to the sex change operations of the Wachowski Brothers? Did the actors buy into the New Age and Gnostic philosophy of The Matrix? Is Dark City the Hollywood twin of The Matrix? Amongst the limits of knowledge, are we bound to only knowing ourselves? Are we living in a digital projection of a larger reality? Does The Matrix retell specific stories from the Bible in an inverted fashion? Hi Y'all! (thats what our American cousins say, it means hello everyone!) Welcome back to another episode of the WN MOVIE TALK (formally known as the We Need To Talk About Movies Podcast) and this is one of those separate spin off episodes in which I, (Trev) rummage through my ever growing list of films that I own that I haven't watched yet, pick a few at random, then watch and review them. What film will I choose in this episode? Well, I have three for you here, The Sisters Brothers a modern Western starring Joaquin Phoenix, John C. Riley , Jake Gyllenhaal and Riz AhmedLucky Number Slevin - a quirky Tarantinoesque crime thriller starring Ben Kingsley , Josh Hartnett, Bruce Willis and Morgan FreemanBound - a gritty and sexy crime thriller starring Jennifer Tilley, Gina Gershon and Joe Pantoliano and written and directed by Matrix creators The Wachowski Brothers... before they became sisters... so another pair of Sisters Brothers! Deja vous! Support the show (https://www.buymeacoffee.com/wnmovietalk)
Twenty-five years ago, this small indie neo-noir grabbed the attention of both critics and cinephiles by announcing a talented new duo of directors….the Wachowskis. Three years later, they would direct The Matrix, and of course, the rest of the world noticed them after that blockbuster!Gina Gershon and Jennifer Tilly star as two neighbors who fall for each other…only one of them is living with a local gangster played by Joe Pantoliano who just laundered more than $2 million in mob money. And what results is tense, twisty, sexy, and probably one of the best thrillers of the ‘90's! Nothing makes us happier when our guests pick a film that's GUARANTEED to upset the audience and possibly us. @realdonjamieson decided to take a run at Die Hard in his first appearance and this week, he returns to TRY and take down one of the most influential movies of all time, the Matrix. @KevinGootee and @KevinIsrael are aghast as Don scoffs at Neo, Trinity, and Agent Smith while trying to make the red and blue pills suppositories for all of the Matrix fans. Cartoon connections link this episode's movies as Chris watches The Great Race (which inspired Wacky Races) and Marty watches the The Wachowski Brothers' 2008 movie Speed Racer, based on the 1960s anime. But first, we lament the loss of the great Murray Walker - and thanks to F1 for https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yyxHt7ijo6Q (a great compilation of some of his greatest moments) - and Sabine Schmitz. It would be utterly remiss of us to not include one of https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ufzdL1JaEKM (Sabine's most electric opening laps). The Film Detectives bring you an educational episode delving into the cinema of the Wachowski Sisters (formerly the Wachowski Brothers) and Josef Rusnak. Welcome to Chris & Chris Talk Movies. In this podcast, life-long friends Chris Ferry and Chris Huddleston discuss Sci Fi movies (sometimes the best Sci Fi movies, sometimes not), horror movies (occasionally some of the all time best horror movies…often…not), a few of the very best action movies (I think you see where we're going with this), and genre films from their childhood and beyond in this laid-back, rambling, but inviting series!Rated PG for occasional mature language and alcohol consumption. In this this week's episode we cover 'V for Vendetta', the film adaptation of Alan Moore's widely acclaimed V for Vendetta comic. The cast of V for Vendetta features several heavy hitters including Natalie Portman and Hugo Weaving. Produced by the Wachowski Brothers (of The Matrix movies fame) and directed by James McTeigue (who did second unit work on The Matrix, The Matrix Reloaded, and The Matrix Revolutions), we felt like it was a timely film with all of the craziness going on in America (and the world) at the time.Topics covered include:Police brutality casesAlan Moore books, and his hatred of movie adaptationsThe rise of American fascismSo, have you seen this one? Do you think it's one of the best Natalie Portman movies?Send your questions, comments, and feedback to: chrisandchristalkmovies@gmail.com
Jon and Riv make up for the show they couldn't do Tuesday night and discuss a variety of topics including Joe Biden's "you're not black if you don't vote for me" gaffe, the deaths of professional wrestlers Shad Gaspard and Hana Kimura, HBO releases the SNYDER CUT of Justice League, mask madness hits an all-time high in Staten Island as a woman is chased from a local supermarket for not wearing one, SJWs take over Twitch, the Wachowski Brothers ...err Sisters are mad that the conservatives (and Elon Musk) co-opted the term "red pilled," will their next Matrix movie attempt to steal the phrase back? Nintendo Switch on a major shortage, OnlyFans begins cracking down and telling the thots to begone, and when the hell did JOGGING become racist?
The 1999 sci-fi film The Matrix was released at an interesting inflection point in the history of nerd culture. It launched at a time when -- with the help of Star Wars' resurgence, the soon-to-be-released Lord of the Rings movies, and others -- dorkiness went mainstream, and The Matrix might have been the straw that broke the camel's back, in this regard. The story of Neo, Morpheus, and Trinity, and their battle to break out from a computer simulation and into a horrifying reality, is considered a genre classic, and with good reason. More than two decades later, it holds up shockingly well, with deep philosophical, technological, and even religious messaging that seems to uncannily predict at least one permutation of our actual future. So let's chat about The Wachowski Brothers' (now Sisters') stylish tour de force, and maybe learn some kung-fu along the way. Learn more about your ad choices. Visit megaphone.fm/adchoices

Chris and Owen imagine a world in which the Wachowskis had chosen to focus on innovative action and efficient plotting for their Matrix sequel rather than doubling down on the pseudo-philosophical wankery and bespectacled navel-gazing. What red-blooded man’s heart doesn’t start racing at the “Speed Racer” theme? My guest today is part of the revival of the immortal Speed Racer. He is IDW comic book writer Arie Kaplan, and with the release of the Wachowski Brothers’ big screen, live action adaptation of the Japanese anime classic, I thought it would be fun to talk a little Speed today. We’ll also touch on some of Arie’s other work.

It’s a NEW SCRIPT!!This week, we start reading the first, unfulfilled script by The Wachowski Brothers (at the time) Larry and Andy (now Lana and Lilly). The script is called Carnivore and has never been unleashed on the world… until now. Join us as we learn that, yes, even successful filmmakers like the Wachowskis can start their careers thinking they’re far more clever than they actually are. Listen as they lay the most glaringly obvious foreshadowing in the history of cinema. With special guest Jimie Williams! And don’t forget to subscribe!

Co-host Jeffery Heatherly and I invite you to remember, remember the fifth of November as we discuss James McTeigue and the Wachowski Brothers' V For Vendetta (2006), which kicks off a series of episodes based on the work of beloved comic book author Alan Moore. Our conversation at times borders on political as we explore the film's themes of government and terrorism, but mostly we stick to our usual shenanigans. We also explore the similarities between the film and George Orwell's classic novel Nineteen Eighty-Four. It's an episode that surely vindicates the vigilant and the virtuous. England prevails!
