Thanks to President Trump's big budget bill, funding has been canceled for the Corporation for Public Broadcasting. This is cutting funding to hundreds of radio stations in rural areas that rely on them for critical information. Speaking to The New York Times, GOP Senator Lisa Murkowski, who opposed the bill, sounded absolutely shocked that Trump and the GOP would harm their own voters so cavalierly. She said this is driven by a “blind allegiance to the president's desires,” adding that fear of Trump's anger overrode GOP lawmakers' concerns for their own constituents. Yet this has been the story on many other fronts, too. Will Democrats ever be able to capitalize? We talked to Lynlee Thorne, a Democratic organizer in rural areas as the political director of RuralGroundGame.org. She explains why rural radio is a lifeline, how Trump's agenda is shafting those areas particularly hard, what rural voters think about him right now, and how Democrats can repair the party's deep problems with them. Chuck Todd begins by surveying the electoral landscape for the midterms after six months of Trump's presidency. He argues that gerrymandering could potentially backfire on both parties, highlights the advantages each party has heading into the midterms and why Democrats may not find a coherent message until the presidential primary produces a candidate.Semafor reporter Dave Weigel joins Chuck for a comprehensive analysis of how dramatically American politics has shifted since Trump's first term, revealing a Democratic Party still searching for its identity after its first failed presidency since Carter. Weigel argues that both parties have fundamentally transformed over the past eight years, with Democrats struggling to move beyond the failed Obama coalition strategy while grappling with divisive issues like trans rights and immigration that have left them "walking on eggshells" and lacking coherent, united positions. The conversation explores how the country has moved rightward as a backlash to Biden, why Republicans are acting like a party that believes it can't lose, and whether Democrats' overreaction to Trump prevented them from developing substantive policy frameworks on key issues voters actually care about. The discussion dives deep into the strategic challenges facing both parties, from the left's perceived "softness" on cultural issues to the sustainability of Trump's gains with Latino voters in states like Nevada and Texas. Weigel examines why the fight for trans rights has proven more politically costly than the gay marriage battle, how urban voters' flirtation with socialism doesn't translate beyond coastal cities, and whether rising stars like Michigan's Mike Duggan can bridge the gap between metro Detroit and rural areas. Looking ahead to 2026 and 2028, they analyze the emerging Republican primary landscape with potential matchups between J.D. Vance and Rand Paul, why so many Democrats are eyeing Iowa's Senate race despite the party's broader retreat from the state, and how the changing media landscape—from podcasts to new campaign infrastructure—will reshape how candidates connect with voters in an increasingly fragmented political environment. Finally, he answers listeners' questions in the “Ask Chuck” segment!Timeline: (Timestamps may vary based on advertisements)00:00 Introduction02:45 Taking the pulse of the midterm elections after 6 months of Trump04:15 There are only 25-30 seats up for grabs in the house05:00 Gerrymandering could backfire for both parties05:45 Democrats' advantages in a midterm election07:30 The “out” party is more motivated to vote in midterms09:00 The Republican party is more unified than past midterms in Trump era11:00 House Republicans are outraising Dems in most vulnerable districts12:45 Far less unity in the Democratic party now compared to 201714:15 Since 90', Democrats winning the midterms led to winning the presidency16:30 The presidential primary may help the Democrats cohere 19:30 Dave Weigel joins the Chuck ToddCast! 21:30 Similarities/differences in political landscape between 2017 & 2025? 22:45 The parties are very different compared to 8 years ago 24:15 Democrats had their first failed presidency since Carter 26:45 Democrats could learn the wrong lessons from a successful midterm 29:00 Democrats tried to replicate the Obama coalition and failed 31:00 The media and campaign infrastructure are completely different now 32:30 Battle over trans rights has Democrats flailing 34:30 Democrats are walking on eggshells over immigration 35:30 Democrats don't have clear, united positions on major issues 38:00 Voters want tight border security, but not mass deportations 40:30 Democrats believed they could make Trump "never happen again" 43:00 Dems overreacted to Trump, didn't have coherent immigration policy 44:00 The country has moved right as a backlash to Biden 45:30 Republicans acting like a party that thinks they can't lose 48:00 The left is seen as soft, is trans rights the issue creating that perception? 50:00 Trump has forced the conversation on immigration 52:00 The fight for gay marriage vs fight for trans rights 53:45 Why hasn't the gender rights fight been punted to states? 55:15 Trump endorsed gay marriage before Hilary Clinton 57:15 Both parties demonstrated hubris on gay marriage/gender rights 58:30 Voters care more about immigration than trans rights 1:00:30 Urban voters are more willing to flirt with socialism, not transferrable 1:01:30 Will Democrats distance themselves from Mamdani? 1:02:45 Dem socialists get dinged for cultural issues, not economics 1:04:00 Cost of living is biggest issue in big coastal cities, not as salient in other places 1:05:45 Michigan will be a bellwether for Democratic politics 1:07:15 Nevada and Texas will show whether Latino swing toward Trump sustains 1:11:00 How many Bernie voters would have come out in Michigan? 1:14:00 Will Mike Duggan work outside of the metro Detroit area? 1:16:30 When Trump isn't on the ballot, Democrats sweep Michigan 1:17:45 Will lack of Republican infighting boost the party in midterms? 1:21:00 Republicans haven't found "sweet spot" candidates in some races 1:22:30 Ability to appear on podcasts will matter for candidates 1:23:45 Any R's on 2028 trail besides Paul and Youngkin? 1:25:30 A tight primary race between Vance & Paul wouldn't be surprising 1:27:15 Why are so many Democrats interested in running for Iowa senate? 1:30:00 Kim Reynolds not running after DeSantis endorsement 1:31:30 Democrats surrendered Iowa and Florida 1:33:00 Favorite state fair food?1:36:45 Chuck's thoughts on interview with Dave Weigel 1:37:30 Ask Chuck 1:37:45 How were so many people duped by Trump? 1:45:45 Why does the US give such unconditional support to Israel? 1:54:25 Why doesn't Virginia produce politicians with a large national profile? 2:01:15 Why can states call a redistricting session on a whim? 2:04:45 Why wouldn't a constitutional convention be incredibly risky?

Trump joked that he needs adequate water pressure to properly maintain his “beautiful hair.” While speaking with the press, Trump also called out Harvard University for admitting students who aren't competent in mathematics. According to reports, Harvard is now offering freshmen the opportunity to enroll in a remedial math course—as many incoming students don't have the math skills necessary to excel at the Ivy League school. 4:30pm- Michael Whatley—Chairman of the Republican National Committee—joins The Rich Zeoli Show to react to President Donald Trump's announced 90-day pause on reciprocal tariffs and the decision to place a tariff of 125% on Chinese goods. This is a free preview of a paid episode. To hear more, visit www.politix.fmIt's the first Politix podcast of Donald Trump's second presidency, and it began more or less how we expected: with a lot of bluster and bullshit, but also real demonstrations of lawlessness. Thanks John Roberts? In this episode, Matt and Brian discuss:* Trump's immigration executive orders, with a special focus on his effort to unilaterally suspend the Constitution's birthright citizenship guarantee;* Will Trump follow the law if and when this and other orders are enjoined by federal judges?* Why does birthright citizenship make the United States a better country? Then, behind the paywall, where does Trump's appetite for lawlessness leave things going forward? Will there be any consequence for his day-one decision to pardon over 1,500 January 6 insurrectionists, even exceptionally violent ones? On Thursday's Mark Levin Show, President Biden confessed that he made a unilateral decision to cut off arms to Israel if they invade Rafah. This is an impeachable offense. In January 2020, the GAO said that President Trump violated the Impoundment Control Act (ICA) by withholding funds from Ukraine. Biden can't decide to withhold arms because he doesn't like what Israel is doing. Under no circumstances is there a deferral for a policy reason. What Biden has done is told every enemy of the U.S. and every terrorist organization that when you take on our allies you can defeat them and Biden will reward the Palestinians with their own country. Biden just signed the death warrant of the Israeli and American hostages. If you are Jewish and you vote Democrat, you are suicidal. You are voting for the survival of Hamas, and the funding of Iran. Will Democrats vote for the Biden/Hamas ticket? Also, Biden lies about inflation and then attacks and blames businesses for raising prices. Inflation is skyrocketing on the products we need to sustain ourselves and job creation and your pay is flat. When the economy goes South your liberty goes South. Learn more about your ad choices. The Rich Zeoli Show- Full Episode (02/26/2024): 3:05pm- Will Democrats in the House of Representatives certify a hypothetical Donald Trump 2024 presidential victory? According to Russell Berman of The Atlantic, it isn't a foregone conclusion. Congressmen Jamie Raskin (D-MD), Adam Schiff (D-CA), and Jim Clyburn (D-SC) did not confirm their willingness to accept the 2024 election results. Meanwhile, House Minority Leader Hakeem Jeffries (D-NY) refused to comment. You can read more here:https://www.theatlantic.com/politics/archive/2024/02/democrats-congress-trump-january-6/677545/ 3:15pm- Mitch Smith of The New York Times documents President Joe Biden's likely struggles appealing to Michigan voters—not just in the 2024 general election, but also in Tuesday's Democrat presidential primary. During a recent interview with Dana Bash on CNN, Michigan Governor Gretchen Whitmer (D) conceded that she's “not sure” how Biden will fare in the state. Smith writes: “Arab Americans, irate over Mr. Biden's support for Israel, are pushing Democrats to select ‘uncommitted' on the state's primary ballot on Tuesday. Several recent general election polls show Mr. Biden running behind former President Donald J. Trump in Michigan, while another shows Mr. Biden leading. Prominent Democrats in Detroit and Lansing say they are worried not just about losing Arab Americans, but also about Black men and union workers and young people. That leaves Ms. Whitmer, one of eight national co-chairs of Mr. Biden's campaign, who is seen by many Democrats as a future contender for the presidency, facing perhaps the biggest electoral test of her career even though her name is not on the ballot. Ms. Whitmer is particularly strong with moderate voters and suburbanites, and has forged deep ties with Black leaders in Detroit. But it remains to be seen whether she can help much with those most frustrated with Mr. Biden, including voters further to the left and Arab Americans.” You can read Smith's full article here: https://www.nytimes.com/2024/02/25/us/gretchen-whitmer-michigan-biden.html 3:25pm- While appearing on MSNBC with Jen Psaki, Pennsylvania Governor Josh Shapiro (D) accused the Republican party of being an “extremist party.” 3:40pm- Former Obama Campaign Manager & Administration Advisor David Axelrod suggested that President Joe Biden may struggle to appeal to black voters if Republican presidential candidate Donald Trump selects Sen. Tim Scott (R-SC) to be his Vice Presidential nominee. 3:50pm- On Saturday, South Carolina held its Republican presidential primary—with Donald Trump defeating Nikki Haley 60% to 40%. Despite the loss, Haley told supporters that she will remain in the race at least through Super Tuesday on March 5th. According to Politico's calculations, Trump will likely accumulate 1,215+ delegates by March 19th—reaching a majority of the Republican party's delegates and officially becoming the presumptive nominee. 4:05pm- Michigan will hold its Republican and Democrat primaries on Tuesday, February 27th. Donald Trump currently leads Nikki Haley for the Republican nomination with 110 delegates to 20. Steven Shepard of Politico writes about Haley's uphill battle: “In Tuesday's Michigan primary, say Haley actually wins her first state and gets a majority of the delegates awarded, seven of 13. But the bulk of Michigan's delegates, 39, will actually be awarded next weekend at a state convention, where Trump is expected to romp with the party insiders.” You can read more here: https://www.politico.com/news/2024/02/25/haley-path-nomination-impossible-00143205 4:20pm- Comedian Shane Gillis hosted Saturday Night Live (SNL) this past weekend—doing an incredible Donald Trump impersonation in one segment. But was his impersonation better than SNL's cast member James Austin Johnson. Rich and Henry think Johnson still has the edge, but Matt argues that Johnson should be disqualified for using the term “pastiche”—a word the real Trump would never use. 4:40pm- During an appearance on Meet the Press with Kristen Welker, Congressman Byron Donalds (R-FL) emphasized that Department of Justice special counsel Robert Hur's report on Joe Biden's handling of classified documents did not clear the president of criminal wrongdoing despite the media's insistence that it did. 4:45pm- A CPAC straw poll asked conference attendees who they would like to see Republican presidential candidate Donald Trump select to be his Vice President. South Dakota Governor Kristi Noem and biotech entrepreneur Vivek Ramaswamy both received 15% of the vote. Former U.S. Congresswoman Tulsi Gabbard finished third—receiving 9% of the vote. You can see the full results here: https://www.bbc.com/news/world-us-canada-68388154 5:05pm- On Saturday, former President Donald Trump spoke from CPAC—telling the sold-out audience that America has the “greatest police” in the world, but “they're not allowed to do their job” because of far-left district attorneys in the nation's biggest cities. 5:20pm- Amanda Prestigiacomo of The Daily Wire writes: “The Washington Post's Taylor Lorenz on Saturday sat down with the woman behind the popular ‘Libs of TikTok' X account, Chaya Raichik, for a videotaped interview, and made a stunning admission. Lorenz, who doxxed and has routinely targeted Raichik, mostly for reposting videos that people on the Left post of themselves, admitted that she has not viewed some of the most sexually graphic material aimed at children that Raichik has posted about online. Still, Lorenz was ready to defend the sexual content and suggest Raichik is a hateful bigot for standing against its promotion in schools.” You can read the full article, and watch the conversation, here: https://www.dailywire.com/news/journo-taylor-lorenz-meets-with-libs-of-tiktok-creator-makes-stunning-admission 5:30pm- While speaking with Alex Wagner on MSNBC, Rep. Alexandria Ocasio Cortez (D-NY) suggested that the migrant crisis at the U.S. Southern border is merely a “false narrative” pushed by conservatives—accusing Republicans of creating a political platform that endorses racism. 5:40pm- Is former CNN anchor Brian Stelter running for School Board in New Jersey…as a Republican!?!? Or is it just a hilarious internet rumor? 6:05pm- On Saturday, South Carolina held its Republican presidential primary—with Donald Trump defeating Nikki Haley 60% to 40%. 6:10pm- While appearing on Fox & Friends, National Director Joe Cunningham said he would be interested in his political organization partnering with Nikki Haley for a third-party presidential run. 6:15pm- During an appearance on Meet the Press with Kristen Welker, Congressman Byron Donalds (R-FL) emphasized that Department of Justice special counsel Robert Hur's report on Joe Biden's handling of classified documents did not clear the president of criminal wrongdoing despite the media's insistence that it did. 6:40pm- Gerrit DeVynck and Nitasha Tiku of The Washington Post write: “Google blocked the ability to generate images of people on its artificial intelligence tool Gemini after some users accused it of anti-White bias, in one of the highest profile moves to scale back a major AI tool. A viral post on X shared by the account @EndofWokeness appeared to show Gemini, which competes with OpenAI's ChatGPT, responding to a prompt for ‘a portrait of a Founding Father of America' with images of a Native American man in a traditional headdress, a Black man, a darker-skinned non-White man and an Asian man, all in colonial-era garb.” You can read the full article here: https://www.washingtonpost.com/technology/2024/02/22/google-gemini-ai-image-generation-pause/ 6:50pm- A CPAC straw poll asked conference attendees who they would like to see Republican presidential candidate Donald Trump select to be his Vice President.
