Nato Green started hanging out at San Francisco comedy clubs when he was in eighth grade. Nato's parents met when they both still lived in the suburbs of Chicago. They got married in 1968 and moved to San Francisco soon after that. Nato says that they “were in the counter-culture, but bad at it.” What he means by that is they didn't take their subversive lifestyles all the way like many of their peers did. But they were definitely left-leaning folks. They settled in Noe Valley, which was quite a different neighborhood back then. It was much more working-class than it is today. Think: blue-collar Irish- and Italian-American families. They had their first kid, Nato, and five years later, their second, his younger brother. When Nato was in middle school, his parents split up. He went with his dad to live at 22nd Street and Dolores, and then up to Bernal Hill. He split time between there and his mom's house in Noe Valley. Nato is quick to point out that Bernal Heights was also very different back then. There were even unpaved roads on the hill when he was a kid in the Seventies. Today, Nato uses history and some pop-culture references to date his own memories here in San Francisco. He remembers things like the Mosone/Milk murders and ensuing “White Night” riots, to name just one. The Forty-Niners' string of Super Bowl wins in the Eighties are another. Nato admits that he wasn't the best big brother. He lists off some of the SF schools he attended—Rooftop Elementary, MLK Middle School, and Lick-Wilmerding High School, where he went on a scholarship. His dad worked to the SFUSD for 35 years and worked on desegregation, among other things. He also taught in SF public schools. Nato says he was a “sensitive, depressed kid.” He read a lot, especially comic books. He graduated from high school in 1993, when the local music scene was overtaken by thrash/funk. Bands of that genre were plenty. Nato went to those shows, where he was able to, anyway. He wasn't yet 21. The first indie comic book store in The City was on 23rd Street in the Mission—The SF Comic Company, and two doors down was Scott's Comics and Cards. Nato became a Scott's regular. Others who hung out there a lot became his buddies. The SF band Limbomaniacs lived next to Scott's. Nato goes on a sidebar here about how bands in the thrash/funk scene never really blew up, mostly owing to what a uniquely live experience the music was. In 1990, when the Niners won the Super Bowl in a blowout, the Limbomanics played with guitar amps at the windows of their Victorian on 23rd Street, facing out. As Nato tells it, skater kids poured out of that house, and other neighborhood kids flocked to the scene. A mosh pit soon emerged, of course, on the asphalt. Nato goes on another quick sidebar here about all the different neighborhoods and scenes interacting on a regular basis. At least when he grew up, they did. Nato's main modes of transportation in San Francisco were his feet and Muni. The main bus lines were the 24, the 49, and the 67. His high school was on Ocean Avenue, but he mostly hung out in the Mission. One of his good friends lived in Lower Haight and had a car, so Nato would sometimes take Muni over there. That buddy with a car would also swing by and pick up Nato and his friends. They'd often go to the west side of town and hang out in coffeeshops. Nato rattles off several of those shops, also letting us what occupies those spaces today—Farley's (still there), Higher Grounds in Glen Park (still there), Higher Grounds in The Mission (closed), Café Macondo (Gestalt today), Blue Danube (still there), and the Horse Shoe (empty today). There's another sidebar about Jello Biafra. Nato says, “Don't meet your heroes.” As mentioned up top, he started hanging out at comedy clubs in The City when he was in eighth grade. There was a show on KQED called Comedy Tonight that featured local comics. Originally, the show was shot at Wolfgang's (now Cobb's), but it later moved to Great American Music Hall. Alex Bennet was on Live 105 in the morning and Comedy in the Park was drawing 50,000 people to the Polo Fields. There were five seven-nights-a-week clubs in SF, and at least five more around the Bay. People made a living as regional headliners. Around this time, Nato's eighth grade science teacher's roommate was the doorman at Cobb's. Word got around to that guy that a kid was into comedy, and so he started taking him to that club. He saw comedians such as Greg Proops, Dana Gould, Paula Poundstone, Mark Pitta, Johnny Steele, Will Durst, Greg Behrendt, and Margaret Cho. He watched these folks, some of them anyway, become headliners. Check back next week for Part 2 and the conclusion of our episode on Nato Green. We recorded this episode at Nato's home on Bernal Hill in January 2025. Photography by Nate Oliveira

Send us a Text Message. On this short bit of standup comedy, Johnny Steele shares a little bit of Live Recorded material about his Football days growing up in Pittsburg, CA. Very funny and I know you will enjoy this set...by the way, this was recodred at a Fundraiser for comic Will Durst, whom you can support by going to his "Go Fund Me" Page;https://www.gofundme.com/f/awukk-will-durst-needs-your-helpWill Durst had a Stroke and needs financial help; please give what you can!Johnny Steele, a vivacious and hilarious stand-up comedian from the San Francisco Bay Area, infuses his performances with a distinctive blend of personal history and cultural humor. Drawing from his rich Spanish and Italian heritage, Steele humorously recounts his ancestors' journey from Spain to Hawaii and eventually to Contra Costa County, intertwining these tales with his own experiences growing up in Pittsburgh, California. His comedic perspective often includes playful jabs at his hometown, highlighting the formidable football culture and the city's notoriously low SAT scores. Through his energetic storytelling and witty commentary, Steele uses stand-up comedy as a means to entertain and connect with his audience, all while raising awareness about important issues like football-induced concussions.Support the Show.Hosted by: R. Happy holiday limbo week, listener, as we say au revoir to 2022 and hello to 2023! Welcome to Succotash, the Comedy Soundcast Soundcast, Episode 336. I'm Marc Hershon, your host this week for a Succotash Second Helping because I – like many of you – am on vacation from work this week and didn't want to miss too much of it by cobbling together…I'm sorry…curating a collection of fresh soundcast clips for you this time out. If you missed last week's show, my partner in crime Tyson Saner (our "crime" being the promotion of soundcasts by playing clips from those shows) brought out a trio of snippets for Epi335 entitled “Clips For Christmas!” The shows featured included Hollywood Palms Podcast, The Besties, and The Viral Podcast. You can still grab it wherever you find your quality soundcasts – places like Apple & Google Podcasts, Stitcher, Soundcloud, Amazon Music, Spotify, Audible, iHeart Radio, Facebook, PodBay, Podchaser and, of course, at our Succotashshow.com homesite, which houses that episode and 334 more going back almost 12 years. As I said, I'm off this week so I've opened the vault that holds the Succotash archives and digging way back 7 years or so – to our Epi119 that dropped on November 5, 2015. It features my interview with comedian and actor Brian Haley, in an episode entitled “Takin' Haley's Comments”. This episode also features a double dose of our old Burst O' Durst feature with comedian Will Durst. Update on Will's condition: As many of you know, he suffered a stroke while waiting backstage for a show a little over 3 years ago and is still on the road to recovery. He's been doing a little bit of performing in the past year – nothing too strenuous or long-winded, and he is still in a recovery facility undergoing daily physical therapy to get back walking again, as well as to regain full use of his left arm. The Go Fund Me account that was established back when this all began is still up and running, because the medical bills keep piling up. If you want to help out, just click over to https://www.gofundme.com/f/awukk-will-durst-needs-your-help (or use the direct link above…) That's really what the show is this week, but it's a jumbo-sized episode running over an hour, so I hope you enjoy it! Tyson plans to take a holiday week off next week, too, so watch this same feed for another Succotash Second Helping and, then after that, we'll both be back with the live, up-to-the-minute soundcast clip madness again! Until then, have a Happy New Year! — Marc Hershon
Greetings, listener, and apologies for the late drop this week. I'm Marc Hershon, your every-other-weekly host of this here roundup of comedy soundcast clips and sometimes interviews we call Succotash, the Comedy Soundcast Soundcast. This is Episode 307 BUT, due to me being WAY too crazy this past week – my wife and I are in the process of purchasing a home and also trying to work and do soundcast reviews AND draw a weekly editorial cartoon and… Well, you can empathize that I was just too slammed to snip some fresh clips this week. So we're going to do a good old fashioned throwback or, as they used to call them, rerun from 8 years ago this month. That's right! June 12th, 2014 was the drop date for Epi88, and I'm going to tell you more about it in just a moment. But first, if you missed LAST week's Epi306, served up by my esteemed alternating co-host Tyson Saner, then you missed “Clips from Friends of the Show”, wherein he featured snippets from The JV Club with Janet Varney, The Writers Panel and The Boogie Monster. Get to it now, won't you, over on Apple & Google Podcasts, Stitcher, Amazon Music, Audible.com, iHeart Radio, YouTube, Soundcloud and on our own homesite, SuccotashShow.com. So. Eight years ago or so it was an episode entitled “Sippin' Clips” and I was crowing about having won a 1st place award from the California Newspaper Publishers Award for my editorial cartoons in the Half Moon Bay Review. First time ever! And in the episode from yesteryear you're about to hear, I featured WAY more clips than we do now – and Tyson Saner, who had only recently been dubbed Associate Producer of this program, furnished a bunch of those clips. They came from some shows that are still around and some shows that have…well, gone on permanent hiatus. Some of the hosts of those shows may have gone away as well. In particular, Gilbert Gottfried, as we featured a clip from his very first episode of Gilbert Gottfried's Amazing Colossal Podcast. In addition to that we clipped from John Dredge's Nothing To Do With Anything Show, The Jockularity Show, Geeks with Wives & Capes, The Crunch Time Show, What A Pair of Trousers, Old Enough to Know Better, Like I'm An Idiot, and, finally, The Picnic Time Podcast. There are also not one but two segments of A Burst o' Durst, and – of course – a Henderson's Pants commercial. Tyson will be back next week with fresh clips, I promise, for Episode 308 and, in the meantime, enjoy this Succotash Leftovers: Episode 88… — Marc Hershon
Welcome, welcome, welcome! Whether you're downloading this soundcast or are streaming it from somewhere on the World Wide Web, as the host of Succotash, the Comedy Soundcast Soundcast, I am delighted that you're listening. Apologies for not knowing your name, but I'm Marc Hershon, the host, executive producer, and founder of this little slice of Soundcastville, which kicked off just 2 weeks shy of 11 years ago. Before I get into what's in store for you in the next half hour or so, let me ask if you had a chance to lay ears on last week's Epi296, entitled A More or Less Typical Episode, hosted by my fastidious and factually accurate co-host Tyson Saner. He featured clips from a triad of soundcasts, including JudyCast with Frances Gumm, The Ramble, and Lightning Bugs: Conversations with Ben Folds. The good news for you, if you happened to miss it, is that you can still grab it – on Apple or Google Podcasts, Stitcher, Soundcloud, YouTube, Amazon Music, Audible.com, as well as any number of reputable distribution nodes across the web – including our own SuccotashShow.com. Since you're here now, however, I'll let you know that I'm going to be shaving off shreds of three soundcasts: Citation Needed, The Stoners NextDoor, and War & Peace in Just 7 Years. I've also got another Slice from comedian Dan St. Paul's blog, and a trailer from a brand new soundcast that's dropping this week entitled Rituals. And even as we're still shaking the bushes for a real sponsor, I have a commercial from our long-running fake sponsor Henderson' Pants and their just-now-in-season Picnic Pants. Before I get into the clips, just a quick bit of news for longtime listeners of this ‘cast that remember our feature the Burst O' durst with San Francisco comedian and social commentator Will Durst. Will suffered a stroke back in the Fall of 2019 and has been on a very long and slow road of recovery all the way through the pandemic. He's still working hard on getting it all together but I was delighted to find he's finally started posting on Facebook in the past couple of weeks. You can dig the Durst at facebook.com/will.durst.9 — and let him know that we are waiting with bated breath for him to start pumping out the funny again. CLIPS Citation NeededThe first comedy soundcast I'm clipping today is a five-hander, that is five hosts who stir the stew that is Citation Needed. Weirdly, in the About Us section of their homesite, some of the guys have last names and some don't. There is Cecil, Eli Bosnick, Heath, Noah Lujeons, and Tom. The format for this show is hilariously simple: They pick a subject, read one article about it on Wikipedia, then pretend to be experts on the topic. The focus for their episode that dropped just last week was Alice Roosevelt, the eldest daughter of US President Theodore Roosevelt. She was pretty much crazy pants, Looney Tunes, and a deliciously black sheep of the family…and her dad Teddy R. was a bit of a dick about it. Just listen as the guys take their initial dip into the Alice Roosevelt pool… War And Peace in Just 7 YearsThis next show claws out a special little niche for a comedy soundcast: Literature. War And Peace in Just 7 Years is attempting to provide the equivalent of one of those episode-by-episode watch-along TV show soundcasts like Office Ladies or Fake Doctors, Real Friends, except they're doing it with the 12 hundred and 25 page epic tome War and Peace by Leo Tolstoy. With 500 characters, there is no lack of material in store. The hosts, Will and Steve, are both British comedians but they conveniently have not used their last names on the show's homesite. A recent episode picks up the action in 1886 or 1887, and things are looking a bit grim for the world at large… The Stoners NextDoorI can't imagine that this next soundcast is the only one to dip into the crazy world of NextDoor, the half-gossip, half-neighborhood news site. But The Stoners NextDoor does a great job of harvesting some of the loopier posts and their responses from the site. Host Aaron and Moll don't focus on where the incidents and altercations are happening, which always makes it feel like it's happening in YOUR neighborhood. Our clip is from this past December, their season three finale, and involves a warning from an angry apple tree owner warning neighbors to keep their mitts off his fruit. Slices: The Lands of Hoops and PlentyWhen I was last in this feed, for Epi295, I featured a new segment called “Slices” from comedian Dan St. Paul's blog of the same name. I have another slice of Slices for you, this one about Dan's trek to a Golden State Warriors game with a mutual comedian friend of ours, Bob Sarlatte. Give a listen… Dan and I are still trying to figure out if people are enjoying these audio odysseys so please drop me an email at m-a-r-c@succotashshow.com or a note in your socials directed to us @SuccotashShow to let us know if you're digging these stories. We're considering a short-form soundcast of Dan's own, featuring stories like this, and we'd love to hear if you're enjoying them. That's going to do it for this installment of Succotash. As always, it's a pleasure to go out into the soundcastiverse and scrabble up these tidbits from the incredible range of comedy soundcasts that are out there. Between Tyson and I, it's hard to even pretend to be keeping up with the massive influx of new programs that seem to be dropping weekly, so if we haven't harvested a clip from your show, or a show you enjoy listening to, you can upload a 3 to 5-minute MP3 clip directly to us at http://hightail.com/u/Succotash and we'll pop it into an upcoming episode. Speaking of Tyson, he'll be here next week with Succotash Episode 298, and a trio of comedy soundcast clips, so don't miss out. Then I will be back the week after that with Episode 299. And THEN, for Episode 300 – THREE HUNDRED!!! – we will also be celebrating our 11th year of doing this ding-danged show! I'm going to talk with Tyson about us actually co-hosting that one and maybe we'll do something special. Who knows? If YOU want to record a special 300th episode, 11th year anniversary message to us, you can call the Succotash and Runaway Truck Hotline at 1 (818) 921-7212 OR upload a message to the Hightail URL. Or just say it to yourself while listening to that episode. Whatever gets it done for you. Just remember that the next time running down that next perp that skipped bail and it's up to you, as a bounty hunter, to bring him or her back to justice, and someone asks if you're listening to anything fun, won't you please pass the Succotash? — Marc Hershon
This show was fun for me to edit, as it features my very fisrt TV show (1987)...the Pilot for my first TV series. It Stars Will Durst, a very good Friend and political satirist, Featuring is Rob Jacobson from the "Great Northern California Comedy Competition", and from LA...Elaine Allison. This podcast has the three acts as they appeared on TV, plus an intro and outro by my partner Bob Stobener as character "Tony King".....we were doing home movies of the week years before America's Funniest Videos...Ha!Last, Will Durst and I have an after show "Greenroom" discussion that we did for this pilot only, as we decided to drop that part on all future shows. Ok, loads of laughs here...Enjoy!This is a quick promo for my new book "20 Questions Answered About Being a Standup Comic" as a Holiday gift. It is on Amazon now!
Welcome to this milestone episode of our little soundcast, which is – this week – celebrating TEN YEARS of doing whatever it is that we do. It made only be Episode 248 (maybe we didn’t drop installments quite as regularly as we should have for a big chunk of the past decade…), but it is still 10 friggin’ years of churning out that sweet, sweet soundcast magic. In honor of that, and the fact that we seem to be solidly on the downward side of the bell-shaped curve coming out of the coronavirus pandemic, the staff and management of this show have decided to return to our original title. Starting with this episode we are, once again Succotash, The Comedy Soundcast Soundcast. As we flip the first page on the next ten years, this is also now officially Season 5 – a fact you should see reflected in the refreshed show logo on the service where you’re downloading or streaming this show. If you’re a regular listener to Succotash (in or out of pandemic mode), you‘re savvy to the fact that we either play clips from comedy soundcasts around the web or that we do interviews with soundcasts, comedians, comedian/soundcasts, and other show biz folk. Well, this episode is going to be a little different. In observance of our decade of soundcastery, we’ve gotten a little self-indulgent. For the first time since we began, we’ve actually pulled together host Tyson Saner, producer/engineer Joe Paulino, booth announcer Bill Heywatt, and me, your humble executive producer and other host Marc Hershon. We cobbled together a multi-studio experience through Zoom and spend about an hour and a quarter talking about the show’s origins, the various features we've done, how Tyson came to us in the early going and got folded into our team, and more. We re-hash a classic old Boozin’ with Bill segment, in which our announcer almost poisoned himself and me with a noxious concoction so hideous it should have been criminal. Bill also favors us with a live show introduction, a live show close, and a live reading of a commercial from our long-running sponsor Henderson’s Pants – it’s an announcement of their release of a new product in honor of this show’s anniversary, Henderson’s Anniversary Pants. We also take a few minutes out to pay homage and send out love and healing energies to political and social comedian and commentator Will Durst, longtime contributor to this show of our Burst O' Durst segment. Will suffered a severe stroke in the Fall of 2019 and is on the super-slow backroad to recovery. He's even getting back up a microphone now and again, and we play a little clip of his appearance from January on the San Francisco Points of View soundcast with Will Durst & Wille Brown. Will's recovery is a slow and expensive process. You can help out in a very real way by contributing to the GoFUndMe page that has been set up as way to collect money to offset his hospital bills: https://www.gofundme.com/f/awukk-will-durst-needs-your-help Finally, interspersed within the show, we play some audio bouquets – well wishes from friends we’ve made during the last 10 years who have been featured either through clips, interviews and, in some cases, both. Those friends include: Cole Stratton, Dana Carvey, Davian Dent, Dean Haglund, Dom Risk, Dr. London Smith, Dr. Norman Trousers, Ed Wallick, Francis Cronin, Geoffrey Welchman, Hunter Block, Jason “Jabs” McNamara, Matt Knudsen, Matt WeinHold, Megan Pentecost, Phil Leirness, River Zambezi, Tommy Royal, and Travis Clark. Thank you, friends, for sending those along! That’s about it. We will continue to bring you clips of what we find out there in the soundcast wilderness, as well as chats with some of the interesting characters we collect along the way, each and every week. In return, if you’d be so kind as to rate and review Succotash, the Comedy Soundcast Soundcast on Apple and Google Podcasts, Spotify, Stitcher, iHeart Radio, the Laughable app, YouTube, Podbay, or anywhere else you happen to listen to us. Next week, Tyson will be back with a sheaf of clips for you in Episode 249, and I’ll be diving in the week after that for Epi250 (!), and so forth. In the meantime, be good to each other and if anyone asks if you’ve heard any good soundcasts lately, p-lease be sure to pass the Succotash! — Marc Hershon
Arthur Gaus came of age in the Golden Era of comedy in San Francisco. Picking up where he left off in Part 1, Arthur sets the stage for his beginnings doing stand-up by describing the comedy scene in The City in the 1980s. He rattles off a list of funny folks who got their start here—Will Durst, Robin Williams, Whoopi Goldberg, Greg Proops—and talks about comedy venues in San Francisco, some of which still exist today. Arthur got started at open-mic nights around town and in Santa Cruz, where he ended up going to college. He got his SF break at Cobb's, but he extols the virtues of The Punchline, especially Sunday nights, where, in the before-times, the club features up to 10 local comedians. He tells us about his comedy album, Nice Jokes for Smart People, which you can find on Spotify, Pandora, and other streaming services. Arthur ends this podcast reflecting on changes in The City in last couple decades, culminating with where we are today. We recorded this podcast over ZenCastr in March 2021. Saluton. Estas mi, Tyson Saner. I'll be your host for this Final Episode of Season 3 of Succotash, the Comedy Soundcast Soundcast. If you've not been listening to the previous episodes then you might be unaware that this is also the final episode before our hiatus…but more on that later. This also happens to be our 200th episode (hold for applause) and what a full episode I've got for you this time. It's a Succotash Chats episode and I'm joined by producer, director, violence prevention specialist, friend of Succotash and one-half of the team that hosts Chillpak Hollyood Hour: Phil Leirness. Mr. Leirness, along with Dean Haglund of TV's The X-Files and The Lone Gunman, has been creating and publishing episodes of CHH since 2007. They've always been supportive of this show, which itself has been around for your listening pleasure since 2011. Chillpak Hollywood Hour, to me at least, has always seemed like a big brother of sorts to Succotash…not in any insidious way, of course. There used to be a lot more crossover between Succotash and Chillpak in those early days. In addition to my chat with Mr. Leirness I've received some special audio sent in by a few soundcaster supporters of Succotash whose identities I will keep a surprise for now. There's at least one surprise I don't even want to tease at the beginning here…suffice to say it's a very pleasant surprise for listeners and this host alike. All will become clear eventually. And this hiatus-adjacent Epi200 is brought to you by none other than our longtime, non-paying sponsor: Henderson's Pants and their new Bicentennial Pants. Incidentally, it't not to late to purch some merch - the Succotashery remains open during our hiatus, giving you the chance to pick up some gear that's sure to become collectors' items one of these days. Just click over to https://www.cafepress.com/succotashshow to see our selection. Finally, I'll mention that after my discussion with Phil I've got a bonus chat featuring none other than the original host and current executive producer of Succotash, Marc Hershon, who discusses the past and possible futures of the program with me and sends us off in style…or something like that. No, I like that: In style! But first…some Durst Before we begin I wanted to share some news with you regarding our most frequent contributor and friend of the show, raging moderate Will Durst. As regular listeners of this soundcast know, Mr. Durst suffered a stroke in October of last year. I've been holding on to the remaining Bursts o' Durst I received and spreading them out over time so as to have at least one in every episode until the hiatus. Because, somehow it might not feel like an episode of Succotash, The Comedy Soundcast Soundcast, without a Burst o' Durst. In Conclusion I really don't know what else to add at this point. It's been a fun ride over these last nine years since the show began…and eight years of my involvement. I feel like going on too much at this point might be gratuitous. Mostly I'd just like to thank everyone here at Succotash for making the show what it has been throughout the years…Scott Carvey's theme music, Bill Heywatt's mellifluous announcing, Henderson's Pants and TrumPoetry.com's fake sponsorship, all the soundcasters who had interesting ideas that they took the time to record and publish so that they might one day be listened to by Succotash, The Comedy Soundcast Soundcast, and anyone else who might might be in search of something to listen to…and, of course, Marc Hershon's creation of the show in the first place. Mostly, I'd like to thank YOU, the listener, for taking the time to make Succotash part of your listening life…even if it you're only listening to this episode…well, of course you are, you wouldn't be able to hear this otherwise. So, for Succotash, the Comedy Soundcast Soundcast, I've been Tyson Saner saying farewell and gxis poste, and reminding you that we've got at least 200 episodes in the archive now so if you wouldn't mind terribly, I'd like very much to remind you to Please, Pass The Succotash. — Tyson Saner
Saluton, estas mi Tyson Saner…your host for the duration of this penultimate-adjacent episode of Succotash, the Comedy Soundcast Soundcast. I'm giving you a short intro today because I've got more important things to share with you than the insane ramblings of a madman attempting to disguise itself as coherent soundcast hosting. Of the clips I've got, three of them were sent in to me and I appreciate that a great deal! They are Assisting from Michael McClure, Dare Daniel from Daniel Barnes and Corky McDonnell, and a clip from the good folks over at Strange Times whose lineup has had an addition as of late. I also managed to scare up a few soundcast clips of my own somehow…four, in fact. I've got clips from Mindfudge Comedy Podcast, NERD U, Ghosted Hunters and The History of Standup. That makes seven clips in total. Think of it as a little extra stuffing in your bird…or in your stocking…or whatever it is that you might stuff and eat…or hang above your fireplace… In addition to clips I've got selected readings from our 100% fake sponsor with a 100% real website: TrumPoetry.com And welcome back to our other longtime sponsor Henderson's Pants with their holiday special trouser: Santa Pants! What was that I was saying about a short intro? Sorry about that, I'll make it a New Year's resolution or something… Let's get to the show because I've got a pretty serious update for you. -- By now, many of you have likely heard or read that on October 7, 2019, as reported in an article by Sam Whiting in The "Datebook" section of The San Francisco Chronicle dated November 26th of 2019, nationally known political comedian and contributor of our "Bust O' Durst" segment Will Durst suffered a stroke and, as the article's title points out, "cancels comedy shows for the first time in 30 years". (You can read the piece online here.) All of us here at Succotash are pulling for Durst to make a full recovery. I fyou wish to write him a get well card, you can address it to: Will Durst PO Box 225126 San Francisco CA 94122 We actually have several Bursts O' Durst that we haven't featured yet, and we will play two of them this episode and release the remainder in the two installments of our soundcast that remain before our upcoming hiatus. -- CLIPS Dare Daniel This clip comes to us directly (via our http://hightail.com/u/Succotash site) from an old friend of Succotash, Corky Kneivel, and is from his relatively new soundcast Dare Daniel, hosted by himself and film critic Daniel Barnes. Corky sez: "Dare Daniel Podcast is a comedy movie review show hosted by 1 film critic and 1 comic. We take listener dares of the worst movies ever & review/recap them. This clip is from the 2019 film The Fanatic starring John Travolta as Moose and directed by Fred Durst of Limp Bizkit." Mindfudge Comedy Podcast Mindfudge is a weekly show hosted by three funny guys from Houston, Texas. Each week, either Justin, George, or Andy will bring a new theme to the table and it will be discussed at length, and then incorporated into the show segments — segments such as "Mind Melters", "Hot Fudge", and "Ask The Nuts". Our clip is from Epi 64 posted August 2, 2019, entitled "Bad Words", and the clip features a game called "Shakespearean Insults". Ghosted Hunters "Ghosting" is a recent epidemic in the dating world where someone leaves a relationship by simply vanishing from the other person's life. Comedian Ariel Kashanchi and her sidekick, Erin Darling, help the victims of these heinous love crimes get closure. This clip is from an episode entitled: "Kicking it with Koechner", where Erin and Ariel try to harness their sexual energy by doing a week-long experiment on sexual transmutation. They are joined by actor and comedian David Koechner (The Office, Anchorman) who weighs in on the saga of Chris and Kandi. (Speaking of getting ghosted, there has not been an episode of "Ghosted Hunters" since the release of this episode from October of 2018…but shows have been known to go on hiatus… ) NERD UA weekly roundup of Nerdy News, NERD U is hosted by Umnia El-Neil and is about the movies and TV shows running Pop Culture. In this clip, Umnia sings the praises of Plan B Entertainment, the production company founded by Jennifer Aniston, Brad Pitt, the late Brad Grey, and their contributions to film and film history. The History of Standup Comedian, professor, and longtime friend of Succotash Wayne Federman (check out our interviews with him in Episodes 116A, 123, 128, and 146), has spent his life studying the art and history of standup comedy. Join him and fellow student, Andrew Steven, as they look back at some of standup's most interesting moments, places, and people. Our clip is from a bonus episodes this past November 20th, 2018, with Demetri Martin and Ian Abramson, discussing comedy both recent and ancient – with fascinating and funny results. Assisting Host Michael McClure pretends to be the assistant to a Hollywood celebrity and calls real businesses in order to get stuff done on behalf of his "boss". This clip is from the premier episode clip, which dropped August 20th, 2019, entitled "Mr. Forrester Would Like to Be Honored With a Key to the City of Los Angeles". Strange Times Podcast Our clip from the Strange Times Podcast was submitted directly by the show's co-host and producer, super longtime friend of the 'Tash Davian Dent. They've been leaning into improv on the show lately, with newcomer co-host Dom Risk joining Davian and Kat Sorens, and in recent Epi 325 the lads take a shot at writing a film script. -- There it is, another show and, in this case, the last episode of 2019, that is. There are just TWO episodes left before we go on hiatus and they are going to hear the light of day when the year is new and the 20's are two.…I don't have a great deal of faith that that will catch on as a saying but one can dream…and one will….presumably of "Sugar Plums" around this time of year. Thank you so much for spending time with us whenever it is you listen. We appreciate it more than it is possible to express although I will still try. Remember, when you share us with others you are also sharing bits of other soundcasts that other people often have put a great deal of work into. Sometimes those other people are the people who edit those soundcasts for the personalities who "appear" in them… and I salute everyone who has to do that particular task…So, from myself, Marc Hershon, Bill Heywatt, Joe Paulino, Will Durst, and Scott Carvey…and ALL of our friends and family who and wherever they may be or might have been, Merry Christmas, Happy Holidays, Happy Haunukkah, Kwanzaa and whatever else people celebrate that I am not yet worldy enough to know of…oh yeah, Festivus!!!…anyway, enjoy it as much as you can and if you are of a mind to, please…Pass The Succotash! -- Tyson Saner

Saluton, estas mi Tyson Saner, your host, and that means you are my parasite...and we have a symbiotic relationship, don't we? Yup, that sounds as stupid out loud as it looks on paper...or on the screen of a computer or device. It's early in the morning at the moment as I am writing this and I wonder how many other soundcasters are working on their soundcasts right now instead of sleeping or fishing or doing a paper route (if those things still exist – I know I had a few of them "back in the day") And is route pronounced to rhyme with "gout" or "boot"? It's probably either depending on where you are from or what you grew up hearing. Also, is "either" pronounced to rhyme with "breather" or "hi there"? I imagine the same scenario applies as before with the word "route". Either (or either) way, your route (or route) has led you here to us at Succotash, The Comedy Soundcast Soundcast and I am grateful for that. Welcome. I'm sorry this episode was a bit late. I usually aim for release on Fridays but I have only 1-3 nights per week I can work on the show and last week we had a power outage inflicted on us by Pacific Gas and Electric or PG&E as we say out here. Yes, I said "inflicted" because it was purposely done by the company to help prevent fires during a windstorm we were having in California. There are folks who are probably still without power 5 days on from the event and I consider myself fortunate that it was only slightly more than 24 hours with no power in my proverbial neck of the woods. Anyway, I've managed to put together some semblance of a show for you...And, in this episode I've got clips from "Stuff You Should Know", "Mostly Swinging", "Two Old Queens", "The Margaret Cho", "How Did This Get Played" and "Athletico Mince". I've also got selected reading from our 100% FAKE SPONSOR with a 100% real website that is TrumPoetry.com and a special presentation of so many of our Burst O' Durst segments from political humorist and Raging Moderate Will Durst that I'm calling it our Block O' Durst. SO... without further yammering from me, let's get to the content created by people far more talented than I. CLIPS Stuff You Should KnowHosted by Josh Clark and Charles W. "Chuck" Bryant, if you've ever wanted to know about champagne, satanism, the Stonewall Uprising, chaos theory, LSD, El Nino, true crime and Rosa Parks then look no further. Josh and Chuck have you covered. Our clip is from the episode from September 5th, 2019: What's the deal with MSG? Mostly Swinging There really isn't a description for this show on its page but from listening to the first episode I can say that Jazz and Jazz standards are discussed and recordings of performances of Jazz standards are played in the episode. The first song played as a segment in the first episode is "Blue Skies" by Irving Berlin, sung by Don Most who has loved music that swings from a very young age and who's album of music - also titled "Mostly Swinging" - can be found on iTunes. Ethan Dettenmaier of Combat Radio who founded BrigadeRadioOne.org is the co-host of this episode. Two Old QueensThey're old! They're queens! There's two of them! It's Two Old Queens! Join Mark Rennie and John Flynn as they search for the gayest movie ever made, using a byzantine ranking system, their own hard opinions, and some inevitable controversies from a stacked lineup of guests to come! Our clip is from September 18, 2019: Beetlejuice with Niccole Thurman, wherein the Group discusses their hunt for "The Gayest Movie Ever" and the "Top 5" they've come up with so far... How Did This Get Played?Heather Anne Campbell and Nick Wiger love video games. Together, they're playing the very worst and weirdest games ever made with their funniest friends to get down to this fundamental question: How Did This Get Played? The clip we share is from August of this year entitled "Night Trap with Christine Nangle". Athletico Mince This soundcast, featuring hosts Bob Mortimer and Andy Dawson, was recommended by longtime FOS (Friend Of Succotash) Davian Dent of the soundcasts Strange Times and The Bitter Sound. OUr clip is pulled from their Epi85, in which Peter makes a hospital visit, Mark invites Steve 'round, they discuss biscuit etiquette, Roy launches a new game, Dyche motivates, and there is a new Crime Files. The Margaret Cho Through Margaret Cho's iconic work in comedy, fashion, music, and activism, she's developed deep, lasting friendships with - well - a bunch of famous people, while never losing her desire to search for and support the next big thing. Our featured clip is from the October 7th episode just a few weeks ago. Margaret talks with managing editor of Yahoo! music, Lyndsey Parker. Although the clip itself features an excerpt from Margaret's interview with Ronald McDonkey. Well, there it is. Another show gone and here we are together at the end of it. Will you be here at the end of show 200 to say "goodbye" to us for a while? Tweet us at @succotashshow with your answer. I'm serious. Also seriously, anything can happen between now and episode 200. We could get a real, paying sponsor for instance. A soundcaster can dream, can't he? In the meantime, hug your loved ones because, as Kanye West and Adam Levine said: "Nothin's ever promised tomorrow today And I heard 'em say (nothin's ever promised tomorrow today) but we'll find a way (And nothing lasts forever but be honest babe, it hurts but it may be the only way)" So, until the next episode this has been Tyson Saner ,asking on behalf of Marc Hershon, Bill Heywatt, Joe Paulino, Will Durst, and Scott Carvey, if you enjoy this program and the ones that came before it, please share it with others. Perhaps by way of leaving a review on iTunes or Apple podcasts...or Stitcher...or anywhere you can leave a review would be appreciated... also, retweeting our links on Twitter is a big help and would be much appreciated. Those are just some of the ways you can show your support of us in a way that doesn't cost you a dime, and it's at least partially what we mean when we ask you to (Please) Pass The Succotash. — Tyson Saner

If you were let down by Mueller’s testimony this week, you may be the type who complains that Shakespeare plays don’t have enough car chases.
