We all instinctively respond to trauma in different ways. Our complex nervous system wiring of this response allows a person in danger to react in four different ways. Fight, flight, freeze, or fawn. There can be both healthy and unhealthy outcomes of those responses. In this episode, Michael breaks down what those responses look like, and how we can learn to manage these as we live out our adult life. So much stress can come from simply not actively listening to others, because we are thinking of our Ya-But response instead of listening. In this episode Michael discusses how we can eliminate the idea of control by simply listening instead of adding your ideas to every conversation. “Yes but” suggests there is a different fact to consider. The words can discount everything that led up to it and can lead to a debate. “Those flowers are beautiful.” “Yes, but they only last two weeks.”“Yes and” shows you agree with what someone has said, but rather than presenting a different fact you build on the words that led up to it. “Those flowers are beautiful.” “Yes, and they do best when they get plenty of water.”ConnectNewsletterMichaelHead.orgFacebook Page Instagram - @_michael_head_ DFTWpodcast@gmail.comSupport the show (https://www.paypal.com/paypalme/my/profile)

On Episode 30 of the DFTW Podcast -Host Michael Head discusses what it looks like to have a healthy dose of insecurity, and how your insecurity may be impacting you and those that you love. A person who believes they are always right and who does not look at themselves because they feel they have it all together, rarely experience conscious insecurity or self-doubt. However, deep down and under a shield of crazy defense mechanisms, this person actually feels very small. Painfully small. Humility, vulnerability, and mild insecurity are qualities that allow a person to grow and love in a healthy way. 5 ways to comfort the hurting. We all want to help the people we love the most. Feeling sorry for someone and trying to cheer them up sometimes makes that person become more upset, annoyed, or angry with us. It’s not what we intend to do but how we do it that makes the difference. If our timing is off or we choose the wrong tactic, the outcome of our attempt to help can be the polar opposite of our intent; the person we are trying to comfort may perceive our words and behaviors as insensitive. Here are 5 tips to help others when we know they are hurting:1. Every one of us have a story to tell, our lives are so different than everyone around us. With our stories come the many different people that we have come in contact with through our lives. With these relationships our earliest influence with our primary caretakers is what has shaped our brain more than anything else. You don’t remember, yet your brain does and saw it all. The only way out, is THROUGH.This means that in order to let go of a feeling, you must first give it its proper place and to be with it.In this episode we will discuss the issue with the idea of just letting go of our emotions to heal and the damage that can have on you and everyone around you. —————-Connect NewsletterMichaelHead.orgFacebook Page Instagram - @_michael_head_ DFTWpodcast@gmail.com
There is a difference in intimacy and intensity. Often those who are emotionally intense also had childhoods where they had to please the adults around them, and weren’t allowed to be themselves. This meeting of other’s needs carries into adulthood, making intimacy hard. Intimacy shows that you are fully yourself around someone, even as you accept them as they are and create an environment they can be fully themselves. Key words here are acceptance, authenticity, and trust. Connect - NewsletterMichaelHead.orgFacebook Page Instagram - @_michael_head_ DFTWpodcast@gmail.com
In this episode Michael talks about how racism is sin and shouldn’t be tolerated at all. No sin should ever be tolerated. Sin will take us down if we are not careful. We should address sin and shouldn’t stand for any sin and deal with it in love. A great resource that has helped me is a message that Keith Garvin gave at Second Baptist Church Houston on this exact topic. We then discuss how we need rest and how God asks us to keep the sabbath. Without this we will be tired, worn out, and exhausted. The movie Bombshell shows a very real situation that many people are struggling with, being hurt and feeling trapped to actually do something about it. This is called a Trauma Bond or Stockholm Syndrome which is a condition that happens when the victim develops a psychological alliance with their abusers during captivity or abuse. Emotional bonds may be formed, between captor and captives, during intimate time together and abuse. These are generally considered irrational in light of the danger or risk endured by the victims. Many people are in the middle of this right now, and it is my hope that this episode will be an aid on your path to freedom.
