43: Terrain Theory with Dr. Catherine Clinton, ND

Play Episode Listen Later Jul 27, 2021 50:42

If you've been following me for a little while, you probably know that my interest in reducing toxins in my life actually started out of a concern for the environment. It wasn't for another several years that I started to appreciate the connection between a healthy environment and a healthy body.Or that our daily actions as well bigger issues like air pollution, climate change, and water pollution were playing a much more important role in our collective health and well-being than we might think considering how little conversation there is outside environmental health conferences. So when I discovered an Instagram feed that combined environmentalism with ways we can take control of our health, I was pretty excited. That feed was created by Dr. Catherine Clinton, a licensed naturopathic physician with a focus on gut health, autoimmunity and psychoneuroimmunology. When in medical school Dr. Clinton was diagnosed with and healed from an autoimmune disease that effects the gastrointestinal tract, leaving her with a passion to prevent autoimmunity in children everywhere. She addresses the psychoneuroimmune system and gut health of children and families through a deeper connection with the world around us.Catherine is passionate about the connections we have with the world around us and how these connections can regenerate our health and the health of the planet. She sees an urgent need for healing our internal terrain as well as healing the terrain of the world we live in.Dr. Clinton practices in Eugene, Oregon and has written articles in multiple peer-reviewed medical journals and is a respected speaker, author, and pediatric health advocate. As you'll hear in her own introduction, she started out with an education in philosophy, which I think really lends to a fascinating application of the science we discuss in today's show.We talk about:- Terrain theory vs germ theory.- Now the natural environment impacts our health and simple (free!) steps we can take to balance some of our hormones.- The biggest impact from our environment on our gut (and it's not food or drink!).- How our immune systems work.- The root cause of autoimmune disease. You can find more about Dr. Clinton at:drcatherineclinton.comInstagram: @dr.catherineclintonFacebook: facebook.com/drcatherineclintonnd*****Green Product Forum: https://facebook.com/groups/greenproductforumInstagram: https://instagram.com/emma_greenathomeWebsite: https://greenathome.ca
