Is the clean energy revolution happening faster than we think? In this episode of the Everything Electric Podcast, Robert Llewellyn sits down with Scott Cooney, co-founder of CleanTechnica, for a deep dive into the global shift towards a cleaner future. From his home in Hawaii, Scott shares unique insights on why the US lost its early lead in clean tech to China, and why he remains incredibly optimistic about the future. They discuss the mind-boggling scale of Chinese manufacturing, the "inevitability" of technological solutions like solid-state batteries, and why your next stove might have a battery inside it.  Plus, we look at the incredible "human-centred" design of electric school buses that are solving more than just pollution, and why data centers might not be the energy disaster everyone fears.  00:00 - Intro: Hawaii, Sydney, and the CleanTechnica Connection 02:28 - Why Hawaii is the Perfect Lab for Clean Energy (High Gas Prices) 04:29 - The Shift: How Silicon Valley Started It, but China is Winning It 09:07 - California's Economic Boom: The 5th Largest Economy Run on Renewables 13:19 - The UK's Secret Success: How Offshore Wind Replaced Coal 15:55 - The "No-Brainer" of Solid State Batteries & Tech Evolution 20:00 - Robotaxis & Waymo: Why Autonomous Driving Feels "Inevitable" 28:39 - The "Zoom" Electric School Bus: Solving Pollution & Bullying? 36:04 - Data Centers & AI: Why Solar Will Solve the Energy Demand Crisis 40:40 - The Future of Road Tax: How Do We Pay for Roads Without Gas Tax? 46:02 - The BYD Explosion: From Unknown to 3rd Biggest Automaker 49:50 - Smart Homes: Fridges and Stoves with Batteries?! 55:40 - Electric Ships: Batteries are replacing massive diesel engines 58:30 - The Electric Home Show: Bill McKibben & Earth Day in Hawaii Why not come and join us at our next Everything Electric expo: https://everythingelectric.show Check out our sister channel Everything Electric CARS: https://www.youtube.com/@fullychargedshow Support our StopBurningStuff campaign:  https://www.patreon.com/STOPBurningStuff Become an Everything Electric Patreon: https://www.patreon.com/fullychargedshow  Buy the Fully Charged Guide to Electric Vehicles & Clean Energy : https://buff.ly/2GybGt0 Subscribe for episode alerts and the Everything Electric newsletter: https://fullycharged.show/zap-sign-up/ Visit: https://FullyCharged.Show Find us on X: https://x.com/Everyth1ngElec Follow us on Instagram: https://instagram.com/officialeverythingelectric To partner, exhibit or sponsor at our award-winning expos email: commercial@fullycharged.show Everything Electric SYDNEY - Sydney Olympic Park 6th, 7th & 8th March 2026 EE NORTH (Harrogate) - 8th & 9th May 2026 EE WEST (Cheltenham) - 12th & 13th June 2026 EE GREATER LONDON (Twickenham) - 11th & 12th Sept 2026 #fullychargedshow #everythingelectricshow #homeenergy #cleanenergy #battery #electriccars #electric-vehicles-uk

The Environmental Protection Agency estimates there are more than 10 million wood-burning stoves in homes across the U.S., or roughly one for every 35 people. The smoke from those stoves can emit harmful particle pollution, which has been linked to respiratory illnesses, cardiovascular disease and a host of other health issues. Researchers at Oregon State University recently tested residential wood stove emissions in rural Oregon in an effort to understand how the stoves perform in homes.Nordica MacCarty is an associate professor of mechanical engineering at OSU. She joins us to talk about her work to make wood stoves burn more cleanly and efficiently.

What does meaningful progress towards sustainability in the food industry actually look like? Is it setting ambitious targets and regular transparent reporting? Possibly. But the key thing is how those targets affect things on the ground, the tangible benefits we see as a result. In this episode of the Food Matters Live podcast, made in partnership with AAK, we look at targeted initiatives that are creating impact at scale, while also addressing some of the sector's most complex challenges. We learn about efforts to empower women in West Africa (and find out all about rocket stoves), how data is being used to drive regenerative agricultural practices in Swedish Rapeseed, and we tackle the tough questions around palm oil. AAK are a lead partner for the Food Matters Live events in Rotterdam and Ascot. AAK AAK are experts in plant-based oils and fats, the value-adding ingredients in many products people love to consume. Buckle up, folks! This Weekday Update is all about storm prep and the shiny new generator that's about to become my best buddy. I'm diving into the nitty-gritty of why this tri-fuel powerhouse is a game-changer for tackling those pesky power outages that come with a good ol' snowstorm. But that's not all; we're also spilling the tea on some concerning consumer recalls—like those electric ranges that might just turn your kitchen into a fire hazard if a pet decides to get a little too curious. And speaking of kitchens, I'll share the one thing you should absolutely never put on your cooktop, because seriously, who needs a trip to the emergency room when you're just trying to whip up dinner? So grab your headphones and let's get this storm-prepping party started!Winter is knocking at the door, and Eric G is here to help you answer it with style—starting with storm preparations! This week's episode is all about getting ready for the big storm hitting Portland, and Eric is pumped about his brand new trifuel generator. This 12,000 watt powerhouse isn't just any old generator; it comes equipped with a carbon monoxide shield, ensuring that when the lights go out, you're still in the safety zone. Eric reminisces about his previous struggles with gas generators—let's just say running out of gas in a snowstorm is not the kind of adventure anyone wants. With this trifuel option, he can now kick back and let the generator do the work, whether it's running on natural gas, propane, or gasoline. Who needs to run out in the snow for gas when you can stay cozy indoors?Takeaways: In storm prep, having a generator like the new tri-fuel one means no more gas runs during outages, which is a total win! Consumer recalls are serious business—like the LG ranges with knobs that could ignite a fire just by being brushed against, yikes! Never, I mean NEVER, put anything flammable like wood or cutting boards on your cooktop—it's a recipe for disaster, literally! Stay aware of recalls, especially those with button batteries; they can be a hazard for little hands and curious pets alike. Off-Grid Cooking: Grills, Camp Stoves, and Fuel Storage | episode 320 When the grid goes down, cooking doesn't have to stop. Whether it's a power outage or an off-grid adventure, having reliable cooking methods is essential. Let's break down two of the best options—grills and camp stoves—and how to store enough fuel to keep them running. Grills: Charcoal vs. Propane Grills are a go-to for many preppers. Charcoal grills offer simplicity and flavor, but they require more effort to manage. Charcoal can take time to light, and temperature control isn't as precise. However, charcoal stores indefinitely if kept dry, making it a solid long-term prep. On the other hand, propane grills heat up quickly and allow for precise temperature control. They're easy to use and excellent for quick meals. The downside? Propane canisters are finite, and without regular refills, they won't last forever. Storing multiple propane tanks ensures longer use, but you'll need a safe, ventilated space. Camp Stoves with Butane For indoor cooking, camp stoves fueled by butane are a top choice. Compact and efficient, butane stoves are easy to set up and burn cleanly, making them safe for inside use. They're perfect for boiling water, heating food, or even frying. The catch? Butane canisters can be expensive and don't last long under heavy use. Fuel Storage Tips Charcoal: Store in airtight bins or sealed bags to keep it dry. Propane: Keep tanks outside in a well-ventilated area, away from direct sunlight. Butane: Stockpile extra canisters, but be mindful of temperature changes that can affect pressure. By diversifying your cooking methods and ensuring ample fuel storage, you'll be ready to cook no matter the situation.

This week, the Energy Department announced new standards for gas stoves made after 2028. The government isn't coming for your gas stoves — but should it? We talk about the risks with Climate Coach columnist Michael Coren. Read more:Gas stoves have been fiercely debated for decades — most recently after a government employee suggested that they should be banned. There's mounting evidence that they emit a mix of gases that can lead to respiratory illnesses and also produce tons of carbon pollution every year. This week, the Energy Department announced new regulations for gas stoves – but we wanted to know, how worried should we be about cooking on the ones we already have in our homes? Today on “Post Reports,” we talk to Michael Coren, who writes the Climate Coach advice column. He's reported on what actually happens when you cook using a gas stove, and how to switch over to more sustainable alternative ways of cooking — or mitigate the health effects of using your gas stove in the meantime.Today's show was produced by Sabby Robinson. Back in January, Bloomberg News published a story quoting an obscure government official named Richard Trumka Jr. He works with the Consumer Product Safety Commission, which regulates stuff like furniture and electronics and household appliances. Basically, the agency is supposed to make sure that the stuff we buy is safe, and won't kill us or make us sick.  The Bloomberg story talked about how a growing body of research shows that gas stoves are really bad for indoor air quality. They let off pollutants like nitrogen dioxide and carbon monoxide, and they've been linked to heart problems, cancer, and asthma. And in this story, Trumka said the government would look into it, and maybe recommend some regulations on the appliance. Within days, the US went batshit crazy and gas stoves were all over the news. They had become the subject of the latest skirmish in our seemingly never-ending culture war. Cooking with Gas

Thankfully, the legislation had enough bipartisan support to pass without progressive votes. You can read more here: https://www.politico.com/news/2023/06/13/house-passes-bill-block-gas-stove-ban-00100492 While speaking with the press on Wednesday, Attorney General Merrick Garland was asked about the indictment of former President Donald Trump. Garland claimed his “role has been completely consistent with the regulations that set forth the responsibilities of the Attorney General under the special counsel regulations." Speaking from the U.S. Capitol, Senator JD Vance (R-OH) said he will block Biden's Justice Department nominees in hopes of grinding the department to a halt. On Tuesday, FBI Deputy Director Paul Abbate testified before the Senate Judiciary Committee. During the hearing, Senator Ted Cruz (R-TX) accused the FBI of “stonewalling” an investigation into allegations that then-Vice President Joe Biden received “$5 million in bribes” from Burisma, a Ukrainian natural gas company. According to a report from Ronny Reyes of The New York Post, “[s]even people including the morgue manager at Harvard Medical School were arrested and charged with stealing and selling human remains from mortuaries at the Ivy League school and the University of Arkansas.” One of the accused appears to have tattoos on his face that make him appear as though he is a snake, along with metal spikes protruding from the top of head! The Rich Zeoli Show- Hour 3: The Drive at 5: While appearing on Fox News with Dana Perino, women's cycling champion Hannah Arensman announced her retirement from the sport following a devastating loss to a biological male in a recent women's competition. While speaking at a House Oversight hearing, Rep. Cori Bush (D-MO) outlandishly claimed that gas stoves were killing people—including many of her constituents. The progressive congresswoman seemingly called for a ban on gas stoves…while defiantly emphasizing “this is not a ban on gas stoves!” According to a hidden camera interview with a Special Assistant for Sen. John Fetterman (D-PA), the senator would be “okay with…overturning the second amendment.” The interview was conducted by O'Keefe Media Group. Last week, several Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) whistleblowers testified before a House Select Subcommittee on the Weaponization of the Federal Government. The hearing addressed alleged abuses of power by leadership within the FBI. In his opening statement, Rep. Jim Jordan (R-OH) warned the FBI whistleblowers that following their testimony before Congress they would likely be improperly targeted by elements of the federal government—citing Matt Taibbi as an example of what could happen. Four days after testifying before Congress, Internal Revenue Service officers alarmingly showed up to the home of independent journalist Matt Taibbi.

In January 2023, a new study showing that over 12 percent of childhood asthma cases can be linked to gas stoves took over the discourse. Suddenly, gas stoves were a hot topic on nightly news programs across America. The study ignited backlash from conservative pundits, especially after a commissioner from the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission said stricter regulation of gas stoves was on the table. Gas stoves are found in around 40% of homes in the United States, and they've been getting a lot of attention lately. A recent interview with Richard Trumka, the commissioner of the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC), quickly became fodder for outrage, viral disinformation and political fundraising after he proposed regulating the appliance. The proposal stems from a growing body of research suggesting gas stoves are unhealthy — especially for those with asthma, chronic obstructive pulmonary disease and children. NPR climate and energy correspondent Jeff Brady joins us today to separate fact from fiction.
