After more than a year of delays, the findings of the 2020 Census have been released. The once-a-decade count is used to realign both the country's 435 districts of the U.S. House, as well as state legislatures nationwide, to reflect changes in population. It's a process known as redistricting in some places, and it's called reapportionment in Vermont. Now, delays at the federal level mean Vermont's apportionment board has gotten a late start to redrawing the state's political map.
In this week's edition of the "HR's Role In…" series, Lucinda talks to Katy McMinn, the founder of Task HR, and co-founder of HR Independents, about the process of managing grievances - what exactly is HR's role in the process, and how we can remain compliant and balanced throughout. Key Takeaways Indeed, disciplinaries and grievances are not the same, and should not be treated as such. Grievances are about providing employees with a formal route to voice issues they may have with the workplace. Certainly, the first thing to consider is who will be involved in the grievance process. Furthermore, we must consider all parties that may have a stake and offer them the chance to be a part of the resolution. If an organisation is small, it may be worth looking for external support in terms of an adjudicator so as to prevent bias, and the matching of someone ill-suited to a role in the grievance process. Lastly, we must enter the grievance process with an open mind, free from assumptions or personal bias. We must endeavour to remember that grievances are fundamentally a way of making things better in the long run. BEST MOMENTS 'It's providing the opportunity for an individual to raise concerns' 'Ask them to talk it through in their own words, so that you can really understand the nature of it' 'Go into this with an open mind' 'It's about being objective, open minded, and listening to what's being said' VALUABLE RESOURCES Join the HR Uprising LinkedIn Group The HR Uprising ranked 9th in Feedspot's ‘Top 30 UK HR Podcasts You Must Follow in 2021'. Ask and it will be given, seek and you will find, knock and the door will be opened. It all seems so simple yet so hard to consistently live out in practice. It's all held together by living a life of wisdom, chasing after it through our relationship with the Lord and those around us.

I can be charismatic and know that relationships are important'. Difficult but interesting topics to reflect on.

Steven talks to artists, Eve De Haan, a young London based artist with an incredible appetite for creativity. Her degree in Theology has informed and influenced her work, developing a strong body of installations which examine concepts of change and the imprint technology is having on youth culture. KEY TAKEAWAYS The materials we use as artists, can dramatically alter the message behind the piece. The bare essentials we employ can lead to a new interpretations. Meanings change. A word now could mean something completely different in time. It is this concept that lies at the heart of Eve's work. When we arrive in the world, we have an instinct to make a mark on it somehow. That instinct is best expressed through art. Everyone has a different understanding of what balance is. It's not always necessary to separate the different elements of ourselves in order to see this. “Much of God’s provision for us is mysterious, dark, and frustratingly hidden. I know this has been true in my own life, and I suspect it is probably true for many of us. Times when it’s hard to take Jesus at his word when he says, 'Ask, and it will be given you.'” Br. Sean Glenn leans into Jesus' invitation for our total trust in the promise of God's provision.
Mark Victor Hansen is best known for co-authoring Chicken Soup For The Soul, I needn't have to explain much further, given that this book series sold over 500 MILLION copies globally... not a shabby stat to be able to throw around, hey? Yep, here we are today rolling out a banter with this world renowned couple, Mark and his stunning every-bit-as-accomplished wife, Crystal Dwyer Hansen who together have churned out more books, than there are days in a year... It's fair to say that sitting here at RWTP HQ I'm pretty chuffed indeed when I get to shoot the breeze with international household name authors like Mark and Crystal. But it's not all name dropping and Chicken Soup in this episode... as always I niggle into the personal lives of my guests and today I pull out a fairytale love story of how these two met, get an insight into who inspires the inspiring and how an earth, book after book after book, wisdom just seem to weave it's way with such clarity and resonance from the minds of these two, onto pages and into the hands of millions of readers across the globe. Like a kid in a candy store, I loved chatting with these two and kind of hijacked it at times as my own little book/life mentoring session... I hope you enjoy coming along for the ride! "When I moved to New York City, I realised what it meant to be truly lonely for the first time. I had no consistent community — people who would wonder where I was if I didn’t show up. I was disconnected. At the time, I thought that I was the only one who felt this way… but I was VERY wrong.Turns out, loneliness is a huge issue in the United States. The average American only has one close friend, and 75% of people are not satisfied with their friendships".Jillian Richardson found that one of the most relatable things that any of us can do is confess to others that we're lonely. Freshly arrived in Manhattan she found the paradox of big cities is that we can be alone while surrounded with others. Her response was to create the Joy List - a list that once set about connecting people across New York with other like minded individuals and now sets about connecting anyone virtually. The Joy List has become a phenomenon recommended by Esther Perel, Priya Parker and many more. She's also the author of Unlonely Planet.Jillian gives us her 5 rules of community - and cautions that while communities can exist in the workplace we should be cautious about trying to get everyone into the same community at work. She also talks about her 'Ask' and 'Offer' walls as a device to bring teams together.Peter Block: "Community requires a concept of the leader as one who creates experiences for others. Experiences that in themselves are examples of our desired future".If you're thinking I'd love Jillian's help she offers her services professionally both as a course and as personal coaching. If you want to hire her she's willing and able to take that on you can contact her here.Jillian mentions the Ritual Design Lab. See acast.com/privacy for privacy and opt-out information.
