This week on Burnt Popcorn Mike and Charlie have a slam dunk of a showdown. It's Air Bud, everyone's favorite basketball playing K9 versus Air Buddies, what happens when you decide to not stop making Air Bud movies! Enjoy this three-pointer of an episode as we try not double dribble over our sentences. Hopefully, we don't airball while dropping dimes from downtown. Man oh man if you ask me this podcast is a real swish, a real buzzer-beater. Is that enough puns yet? I'll keep going until you listen to the episode. Where are you going. Don't leave, please. In this climactic Please Make This Minisode, our top two Air Buddies movies face off against each other to see which is the best in the series. Will it be Air Buddies (2006), the movie that started the franchise with vaguely European villains and sexy wolves? Or will it be Spooky Buddies (2011), the Halloween horror with terrifying old men and petrifying farts? Who will win the crown?? EVERYTHING IS POSSIBLE!
It's the penultimate showdown before we crown the winner of the Air Buddies bracket and the competition has never been more fierce. First in this round we have Santa Buddies (2009), in which Puppie Paws learns that his father will someday die, the father of dying child unsuccessfully tries to haggle, and we learn for the first time of Christianity. Will it stand up to Spooky Buddies (2011) in which a warlock rides his staff like a surfboard, we learn more about God, and (I can't stress this enough) a dog farts on a demon until it dies. Who will win in this round of The Bracket Buddies? Who knows because ANY/EVERYTHING IS POSSIBLE!
The Bracket Buddies enter the second tier of competition with all the champions from the first tier challenging each other to see which is the best Air Buddies Movie! In the first round, we see Air Buddies (2006) the first of the franchise up against a dark horse: Super Buddies (2013). Air Buddies starts off by introducing the Buddies, a fun movie projector scene, and farting in wine. But Super Buddies has them gaining superpowers, fighting a handsome alien cop, and learning how to monetize trauma! Who will win in this round of The Bracket Buddies? Who knows because ANYTHING IS POSSIBLE!
On this weeks episode of the I Love All of These Things Podcast Shippy and Tony talk about the Air Bud Franchise, the Dallas Sports Surge and much more. The second half of the show Shippy interviews Jeff Cavanaugh from the G Bag Nation
The Bracket Buddies are back with the next cinematic masterpieces in the Air Bud spinoff series Air Buddies! For this episode, your hosts Liz and Spencer watched Space Buddies (2009) and Santa Buddies (2009). In Space Buddies, the Buddies walk on the moon, avoid crazy cosmonauts, and talk to a ferret! And in Santa Buddies they save the Christmas Icicle, sing a sad song about Christmas miracles, and discover the love that Jesus Christ, our Lord and Savior, has for all of us. Who will win in this round of The Bracket Buddies? Who knows because ANYTHING IS POSSIBLE!
If you're anything like your hosts Liz Getty and Spencer D Blair, then you've watched just about everything on Netflix, Hulu, Amazon, and HBO. Well, almost everything because we've discovered that Air Bud (1997) has a spinoff called Air Buddies (2006) with not one, not three, not FIVE, but SEVEN STRAIGHT TO DVD SEQUELS. The five Buddies, Air Bud's beloved children, go on increasingly wacky adventures and Spencer and Liz are here to figure out which is the best one. Join us for the first installment of THE BRACKET BUDDIES!

If Disney remakes don't scare you, no evil thing will. Years before Disney went bananas with live-action remakes of their animated classics, the Mouse House recruited Glenn Close and a bunch of dogs to update the 1961 classic about a nice old lady who just wants to own a nice coat. Okay, so she wants the coat made out of dalmatian puppy fur, so doggy parents Pongo and Perdita must recruit a small army of farm animals to stop that crazy Cruella de Vil from making what will obviously be a very ugly coat. Building up its pedigree, "101 Dalmatians" adds John Hughes-penned pratfalls in the style of "Home Alone," Jeff Daniels as an "independent video game developer" and two bumbling henchman played by Dr. House and Ron Weasley's Dad. Old Millennials Remember '101 Dalmatians' podcast A holiday hit back in 1996, the live-action "101 Dalmatians" isn't quite as infuriating as the Disney remakes that would come later. For the most part, real animals are used (minus a few awful shots of 90s-era CGI), and they don't speak, which immediately elevates the viewing above your standard "Air Buddies" adventure. Tyler and Angela discuss Glenn Close's go-for-broke performance and whether the film's rescue mission in the second half works without the animals talking to each other as the do in the original. We also try to figure out the character of Nanny, played by "Dennis the Menace" superstar Joan Plowright. She's a nanny? For a family with no kids? A live-in housekeeper? A dogsitter? A weird old lady with the power to identify pregnant dogs just by looking into their eyes? What are you doing here, Nanny?! You're making us nervous. At least Cruela de Vil makes her intentions clear. Also discussed in this episode: Strangers on a Train (1951) Laura (1944) The Clapper (2017) Portrait of a Lady on Fire (2019) The Land of Steady Habits (2018)

Hi everyone! Welcome back for another week of reviews! This week, we have an odd mixture of films for your consumption. Today, I’ll be reviewing a surprise critical hit on Disney+, followed by my review tomorrow for the triumphant return of the Bad Boys franchise on Matinee Mondays. Mafia Hairdresser will be returning on Takeover Tuesday with his review of RICHARD JEWELL. Our review of SANDOW, along with interview segments of writer/director Alexander Cooper, will have the spotlight on Indie Wednesday. Thursday we’ll have the obligatory return of Shane Hyde, as outlined in the One Movie Punch Secret Volcano Lair Accords signed after last year’s Reign of Terror 2019. Friday, Andrew covers COLOR OUT OF SPACE, a cosmic thriller based on Lovecraft’s short story, and I’ll close out the week with an equally bizarre offering, 2017’s THE WILD BOYS as part of our Under the Kanopy series, returning to Saturdays for First Quarter. Something for everyone in there, along with a few things for just a few people. Over on our Patreon feed today, we’ll have the latest installment in “One Movie Punch Presents: Zero Percent”, where I review a film which achieved the lowest possible score at Rotten Tomatoes. This week’s feature will be 2018’s KILLERS ANONYMOUS, a London-based thriller with a lot of twists and turns. Is the film truly a cinematic flop, or is it merely a flawed crime thriller with a bad edit? Head on over to patreon.com/onemoviepunch to find out. While you’re there, sign up to contribute at any level. Your contribution goes to paying our expenses and will help us grow with our audience. You’ll also become eligible for Sponsor Sundays, which you’ll hear more about in today’s promo. Subscribe to stay current with the latest releases. Contribute at Patreon for exclusive content. Connect with us over social media to continue the conversation. Here we go! ///// > ///// Today’s movie is TOGO(2019), the epic adventure film directed by Ericson Core and written for the screen by Tom Flynn. The film follows the untold events of the 1925 Nome serum run, when a dog sled relay team delivered medicine to fight the diphtheria outbreak. When no other way seemed possible, Leonhard Seppala (Willem Dafoe) heads into the terrible storm to get the medicine, whose team is lead by Togo, an irascible, lovable, and powerful dog who managed lead the team over 264 miles. No spoilers. Disney definitely has a thing for dog stories. In addition to the recent live-action adaptation of LADY AND THE TRAMP (Episode #644), they have helmed a number of dog-centered films and franchises, including: the original 1955 LADY AND THE TRAMP, 1957’s OLD YELLER, THE SHAGGY DOG franchise, 1961’s 101 DALMATIANS and the live-action remakes, the HOMEWARD BOUND franchise, the WHITE FANG franchise, the surprisingly prolific AIR BUD and subsequent spinoff AIR BUDDIES franchises, and the infamous BEVERLY HILLS CHIHUAHUA franchise, plus a host of many, many more. And that’s because people love dogs of all sorts. And it’s not just Disney. Dog films proliferate the at-home and nascent streaming markets, finding critical and box office success, especially 1974’s BENJI (recently remade for Netflix and reviewed in Episode #076), which was so successful that Disney wanted in on the action with their own sequel. In fact, Disney went into overdrive after 1974’s BENJI, especially in the at-home and rental markets, producing low-cost, high-revenue films. If anyone knows how to make dog films at this point, it is definitely Disney. The real question is why tell this story? Well, honestly, in an effort to correct the record regarding the famous 1925 Nome Serum Run. Most folks know the story because of Balto, one of two lead sled dogs who did the final leg of the run, and popularized as a hero across the world. A statue was erected in New York for Balto, and a live-action and animated film was produced in 1995, naturally entitled BALTO. Two sequels followed, and our family ended up watching all three with One Movie Spawn in her earlier years. But, Balto just managed the last leg of the run, a mere 26 miles. Meanwhile, Leonhard Seppala and Togo had left ahead of time, to make the trek with their team alone, covering over 264 miles, over ten times the distance of Balto, and over much worse terrain. Balto got the press, though, and the glory, which the animated film didn’t help to quash. So, TOGO, the film, is a major effort to correct the historical record. The Alaskan Wilderness has always been a fascinating setting for stories, particularly on the frontier. The harshness of the setting, combined with its beauty, creates a natural backdrop. And you can tell a wide range of stories, anything from Jack London’s “The Call of the Wild” or “White Fang” (we covered a recent animated adaptation in Episode #191) all the way to Jeremy Saulnier’s HOLD THE DARK (Episode #272). The stories generally focus on man versus the elements, which provide a relatively neutral story to tell. If there’s any criticism of the use of this scenery, it’s that the ongoing climate collapse has made many portions look much drier than the early 1900s, a scary reminder of our current planetary trajectory. TOGO is definitely a survival adventure film, told with a combination of actual background scenery and necessary use of green screen, especially to capture the more daring portions of Sepalla and Togo’s story. The green screen can be noticeable, but no more so than your average superhero film, especially because we know Dafoe isn’t racing downhill or crossing a shattering sound, but it still grips the viewer, even on a small screen. The storytelling moves between the 1925 serum run and flashbacks to Togo’s hilarious and trying upbringing, often called Satan by Leonhard after making mischief. The viewer, as such, rides a roller coaster of tense survivalist adventure and heartwarming vignettes about both characters, building towards a not unexpected conclusion. Willem Dafoe is a consummate actor, and he definitely gets more than one opportunity to engage in lengthy exposition. Seppala, as a character, constantly talks to his pups, encouraging them, guiding them, and if we’re being honest, encouraging and guiding himself in the process. Dafoe’s performance is excellent, especially from someone who has the cache to appear in both TOGO through Disney, and the recent PASOLINI (Episode #671) which was a decidedly different (and not safe for work/family) affair. He has real talent, and brings it to every role, including Seppala. The supporting cast, particularly Julianne Nicholson as Seppala’s wife Constance, is all top quality as well. But the real stars of the movie, as with most dog movies, are the dogs which played Togo. Siberian huskies are some of the smartest, most loving dogs on the planet. A certifiable good boy name Diesel plays adult Togo, along with a younger version of Togo in the flashbacks. And Diesel always does a good job on the screen, because he is such a heckin good doggo. It’s nice that Togo gets a Hollywood story to celebrate his name, even if the story as a whole isn’t quite true to life. The differences will be left to the viewer as an exercise. The fictionalizations don’t detract from the story itself, and definitely make for a better film that, at least, partially corrects the record. TOGOis a gripping, heartwarming survival adventure that corrects the historical record regarding the 1925 serum run, while also introducing us all to last century’s certifiable good boy, Togo. While fictionalizing and embellishing the role for the sake of good filmmaking, the core story remains unaffected, and is loving brought to the screen with high-quality effects. If this is the caliber of film that Disney+ has in mind for their streaming service, then we’re in for a world of excellent features going forward. Disney fans, and dog fans, should absolutely see this film, along with anyone else fascinated by the Alaskan wilderness. Everyone else, if you’re looking for a great family film, especially a man/dog vs. nature film, look no further. Rotten Tomatoes: 96% (CERTIFIED FRESH) Metacritic: 71 One Movie Punch: 8.5/10 TOGO (2019) is rated PG and is currently playing on Disney+.

De Ridderbaas en Hans Hoeverloo nemen jullie weer mee in een zeer samenhangend programma over de Eindtijd, kleine grijze komkommertjes, Air Bud (en Buddies), Kangoeroes en apocalyptische wolken. This week Kyle, Matthew and Natalie welcome film critic and podcaster William Bibbiani ("Canceled Too Soon") as he talks about his love of the Step Up franchise. He takes the gang through all five insane films and explains why Step Up is the Fast and the Furious of dance movies. He also talks about the pernicious art of hat theft, why you should always bet on Moose, and the need for a very Step Up wedding. But seriously, these movies are insane. Lao Tzu said "Respond intelligently even to unintelligent treatment." Matt, Bob and this week's returning guest, comedian Kathy Carson, do their best to respond to AIR BUD 6 aka AIR BUDDIES! Join these three as they watch the last film role of the legendary Don Knotts and the first of many adventures with B-Dawg, Rosebud, Budderball, Buddah and Mudbud. Hear the muted joy of experiencing TALKING animals for the first time in the AIR BUD CINEMATIC UNIVERSE! Learn about a voice cast assembled, most likely through blackmail, consisting of Molly Shannon, Abigail Breslin, Tom Everett Scott, Wallace Shawn and Michael Clarke Duncan! Can an evil rare-animal collector/whine vineyard proprietor from Latka's home country dognap Air Bud's children? Will Bud verbally explain why he hasn't spoken english for 5 entire movies up until now? Will Fernfield's systemic racism explain why the Framm's black neighbors have no say in the puppy adoption process despite being the legal owners of Molly, their mother? All the answers, and absolutely no pudding or napkins, are just a click away!TRAILER AND RENTAL ON YOUTUBESTREAMING ON NETFLIX Get extra depressed by reading this: Special Screening and Press Day on the Walt Disney Studios Lot
Lao Tzu said "When I let go of what I am, I become what I might be." Three episodes into #therewillbebud, Bob and Matt are finally starting to learn the truth about Bud himself, he is no mere dog, he is becoming more than he is, always. Joined by Baltimore comedian Umar Khan, Bob and Matt breakdown AIR BUD: WORLD PUP! A much easier task this week since Bob took notes! Is this the blandest movie so far in the series? Why is Fernfield inhabited by the world's most egregiously terrible parents? HOW IS THERE NO PUDDING IN THIS MOVIE??? Find out all the answers, witness the birth of AIR BUDDIES and more...especially how the guy who gets eaten off a toilet in JURASSIC PARK also is murdered by a vengeful gang of domesticated dogs in AIR BUD 3. Enjoy!11 AIR BUD ADVENTURES LEFT! TRAILER AND RENTAL ON YOUTUBE!WATCH IT ON NETFLIX STREAMING!
It's sort of a return to our roots this time, in that we meet the beloved sporty dog Air Bud. Except sadly we don't follow that intrepid bastard in this movie much, but instead his shitty children. Look, to be honest, it's another bad one, with more bloody dognapping. But there's a big draw in the form of Benny from ABBA's first acting role (not really)!
In this episode we go full-on #Bartleby because, given the dour prospects of our already ruinous country, we'd really Prefer Not To. But the world needs humor (maybe!) and, failing that, I guess speaking erratically about a TV show will have to suffice! (but you can skip to around 30 minutes in if you want to skip the political talk) Oh the Hamptons, oh 2013, it was a simpler time (not really). Already, reports of nipple-rubbing displays of dominance are resounding up and down the coast of Montauk, and the amount of shirtless Jack in this episode is, frankly, unprecented. But hey, what can you do? With a ButterPersonality like that, you gotta flex those pythons whenever you can, especially when the Wee Baby Coerl seems in direr danger than ever before--menaced as he is by a certain Surprise Englishmun. (cast Blaster, Couerl! it'll reduce that lickspittle twerp to 1 hp and then daddy's rock-hard nips will finish the job!) So look, things Hamptons-side aren't so hot either! Given Aiden's Perceived Dubba-Double Cross, he's clearly auditing a couple classes at the Tony Almeida Revenge Junior College, only to all-too-soon learn that 3 credit hours of yelling "MICHELLE!" isn't going to suffice when he's thrown deep into the battle-belly of Conrad's finest Les Mis ensemble rendition you've seen this side of that movie where Russel Crowe pretty much just spoke-sang all his lines. Speaking of the French Revolution, Margaux's Dreaming a [comparatively low-aspiration] Dream of having her publishing magnate father show up in America for the launch of her magazine. When--BIG SHOCKO--he decides his daughter's distribution debut is beneath him, Margaux stumbles around the launch party in a daze and stammers out some line about him being unable to attend because he broke his "jambe" getting broken "dans l'avion"--basically, the adult version of "my dad, the fireman-slash-president, couldn't come to give a lecture to our social studies class because he's in Canada fighting the Nazis"--and crosses her petite fingers & toes that nobody remembers their high school French well enough to call her on her absurd and easily rebuked lie. Regrettably, listeners, it is Margaux's cruel lot that her life be as pathetic as it is fictitious, and so it should come as no surprise that not only did Victoria minor in French during her time at Vassar, she also possesses the bat-like hearing and carnivorous blood-hunger of a true Vassar alum. Thus, with the scent of wounded-daughter in the air, Victoria homes in and whispers to a heart-heavy Margaux a mild set of words that just might patch the wounded enfant abandonné's irreparably père-damaged couer that being: "you gotta use that femininity; like, with your body; the sensuality, I mean; it can, perhaps, be a weapon." And thus, confident with weaponized femininity like when you pick up a rocket launcher in Metal Slug and it goes all "RAWKET LAWN CHAIR" and you're like "wtf this guy smoke before he do this recording??? :o" Margaux strides right out of that office and embarks on a bold and unexpected new life path of using her Femininity in the Weaponized manner (read: booty shake) to make Jack feel bad for standing her up at the launch party (read: in lieu of actually confronting her father). And that's all she wrote! Wow! This shit really works! I got a feeling not a single bad or sad thing will afflict the young Lemarchal scion ever again! Otherwise, Stuff is Rough! And you don't need me to tell that. Emily certainly doesn't, with the way Aiden's going around being a prick (that being, because he has the hornies for her) and Jack certainly doesn't with the way Aiden's going around being a prick sort-of on Emily's behalf (that being, on the business end of a louisville slugger), and Victoria certainly doesn't, with the way Emily makes her waste whole Sundays on dress fittings which should be a holy and sacred event not something you invite the sweaty poors too--that being, did Emily really have to come? I know it's for her wedding but.......................--and Danny certainly doesn't with the way he, hit harder by these eddying tides than anyone else, desperately wants to spend his day off watching Air Buddies 3: Space Buddies but he can't because it's child-locked inside a tempting hutch and none of the Martha's will come over to Emily's beach house to open it for him. Look, it's not going to be easy from here on out. You know it. I know it. Everyone with anything but a potato perched upon their neck stalk knows it. So let's just try to think about, on the plus side, how many "ships" this episode "christens" (did I use that right??) when weaponized femiWINity of MarGack's flares bright enough for even the upstairs Emily voyeurs to see and volleys its opening kiss gambit straight into the laps of PatLan's "well I don't exactly trust you with all the creepy stuff you did but I guess we're here so let's take our shirts off and see what these nips end up doing." Oh PatLan, we all knew exactly what those nips were going to do since the very start. They... ... ... *clenches fist* *whispers* ...rub like the devil hisself... Welcome to Gooftober! The first annual celebration of really, really bad horror movies. Blair got sick as hell, so this week Luna's joined by past guest Brooks (@brooksasanoun) and friend of the show Matt (@mattgcn) to talk about Scary Movie 4. Spoiler alert: it's not good. Also discussed: the script for Scary Movie 6, similarities between Scary Movie 4 and Gran Torino, scallions vs. scallops vs. shallots, Just How Many Times Did A Kid Get Hit This Movie, Carmen Electra's bathroom funtimes, how did Rat Race end again?, and the death count of Air Buddies. Joe takes a look at Keystone Family Pictures, Key Pix Productions & Walt Disney Home Entertainment's 2016 direct-to-DVD comedy film, "Air Buddies".
Two things Josh and Kevin love are dogs and movies. Listen to this episode to find out how they feel when the two are combined. Does "Max" rank with classics such as "Old Yeller" or "Where the Red Fern Grows?", or does he fetch a place along the likes of "Air Buddies"?
In this episode, Nick Nadel (Movies My Friends Have Never Seen podcast) joins me to discuss the straight to DVD movie, Super Buddies. Super Buddies is the 7th installment of the Air Buddies film franchise, which is a spin of of the Air Bud franchise. It's very complicated.
