Guest: Toronto Star Queen's Park Bureau Chief Robert Benzie During an election campaign, it's unusual for a premier to take his campaign to stops in foreign countries — but these are unusual times, and this is an unusual Ontario election. The Star's Robert Benzie joined Doug Ford and Canada's other premier's on their visit to a snowy Washington, D.C. this week and tells us who they met with, what they are hoping to accomplish, and the prospects for success in getting their message through when the entire U.S. government is in Trump-inspired chaos. Benzie also unpacks what this might mean for the Ontario election race, and why Ford might prefer to be seen in the U.S. — where approximately none of his voters live — rather than knock on doors here at home. PLUS: What does talk of Canada as the 51st state have in common with a dead cat? This episode was produced by Ed Keenan and Sean Pattendon.

Like Pat, his Mom wore her politics and values on her sleeve, and she wasn't bashful about sharing her views, especially when she thought some right-winger was completely wrong! Her political values and passion have indeed been passed-down to Pat, and he explains why he's so incredibly grateful to have those important traits. Then, Pat explains the importance of focusing on local and state politics during these Trump Part II days. 15:30-37:25: MI State Rep. Betsy Coffia Interview Pat next talks with Michigan Progressive Democratic State Representative Betsy Coffia. Rep. Coffia works hard for the people of the 103rd District, covering Leelanau, Benzie, and Grand Traverse Counties. Despite Coffia's district being mostly rural, and despite Republicans trying their best to oust her, Coffia actually Increased her victory margin in this past election compared her first win in 2022. Coffia explains how she was able to achieve success in a tough year for other Michigan Democrats. And she talks about the wasted opportunity by state House Democrats to pass important bills during their last days in the majority. 37:26-45:00: Last Call on A Weak Resistance The "Last Call" segment highlights a column by Michigan Advance's Susan J. Demas, in which Demas writes how there is very little resistance going into this Trump term compared to the first one in 2016. Unlike the Women's Marches in '16, there were no Democratic Party officials present at any marches this time around. How can there be a Resistance 2.0 if Democratic Party leaders are already bending the knee in both Michigan and D.C.? 45:01-49:20: Ending/Demise of The Lions Pat ends on a sports note by sharing his thoughts and feelings on the early, and stunning, ouster of the Detroit Lions in the NFL Playoffs. Yet, Pat remains optimistic for the Lions next year. Turmeric has been used in Asia for thousands of years for cooking and medicinal purposes. Current research shows that turmeric may be beneficial for the nervous system, skin and metabolic processes. These are just some of the benefits that I found on PubMed. I was also fascinated by the names of turmeric. In Sanskrit, turmeric has at least 53 different names. Here are some of my favorites. Hridayavilasini: gives delight to heart, charming Jayanti: one that wins over diseases Jawarantika: which cures fevers Kashpa: killer of worms Laxmi: prosperity Mehagni: killer of fat Varna Datri: enhancer of body complexion Vishagni: killer of poison Reference Aggarwal, B. Yes, he loves his cosy crime shows, but doesn't everyone secretly love a mystery? We start with the rules of detective fiction before our talk turns to Agatha Christie and Dame Angela Lansbury, how you can do a solve-along-a with a murder, and the advantages of having two shows at the Fringe where one is guaranteed to get the ticket sales.
Running 44@60 Podcast - plotting Trevor Lee's journey to the 2021 44 mile Cornwall Classic Quarter
Send us a Text Message.Shane Benzie is a Running Coach and Movement Specialist described by his client Damien Hall as 'the Indiana Jones of the Running World'Shane has travelled the globe working with, filming and analysing the movements of not just runners but indigenous people and tribes who still move in the way that humans were ultimately designed to do so.Shane has used all of this knowledge and experience and observation to help all types of runners from beginners to elite think about their running and improve it as a result. We met when Shayn came to Truro and delivered a 2 1/2 hour workshop three times for athletes in groups of eight with lots of video analysis and focus on foot landing, pushing off, the inner tripod of the foot, running with the whole body and whipping through the legs from the hip to complete the ideal running action. Shane describes his work as helping runners run more effortlessly, more efficiently and more enjoyably. As runners Shane suggests we need to think more about our form and our movement. One of his top tips for club runners is to focus on their head position as the natural thing for runners to do is to look down rather than keeping their head up with their eyeline looking ahead. For the likes of me and my new coaching friends he suggests we apply the mind of the beginner so every time we do something we learn something. You can find out more about Shane at RunReBorn Shane's book is 'The Lost Art of Running' This is episode 151 of the Running 44@60 podcast. Sakura Takano, Chief Executive Officer, Rotary Charities of Traverse City joins Ryan and Mark to share the pursuits of Rotary Charities. About Rotary Charities:[Rotary Charities} support{s} 501(c)3 nonprofit organizations, Native nations, local units of government, and school districts that provide services in Antrim, Benzie, Grand Traverse, Kalkaska and Leelanau counties.[Rotary Charities] believe[s] Our community has the creativity, perspective and persistence to build a society where everyone can thrive. And changemakers have been working to better our community for decades. Yet some challenges persist, and some have even gotten worse - like the housing crisis, hunger, or climate change. We've gotten good at helping our community beat the odds, but it's not sustainable. It's time to change the odds.We believe we need to work differently together to make progress. Working alongside community members from many walks of life to build community assets will help us meet the needs of those often left behind. Systems practice provides a framework to study issues from new angles, and find opportunities for change we may not have noticed before. And cultivating adaptive leadership skills to navigate changing environments will build supportive and innovative workplaces and communities.Connecting people to each other, knowledge and opportunities creates change. We are committed to using our connections and resources to support changemakers in addressing our region's complex problems and creating community assets for all. And we are learning to work in new ways to achieve these big goals, as reflected in our guiding principles. PIAC discusses Bill C-11 - the "Online Streaming Act" with Scott Benzie of Digital First Canada, a group representing Canadians making user-generated content on social media and related platforms. We discuss PIAC's proposal of "statIc" versus "dynamic" discoverability as a method to reach a compromise between promotion of Canadian content and user-generated content. We also discuss algorithmic platforms and the present environment for digital creators in Canada as well as several scenarios and their effect on viewers and creators if C-11 passes as is. Part 2 of 2 part special.PIAC remarks to Standing Committee on Canadian Heritage on Bill C-11 are found here. PIAC argued for a fix to the “discoverability” sticking point to solve the “user-generated content” question. Too bad we got no questions on our proposal from MPs. We are not sure ignoring consumers helps. PIAC will seek to appear before the Senate of Canada during its consideration of Bill C-11.

Josh Stoltz was born in Traverse City, Michigan and raised in the nearby woods, waters, and dunes of Benzie County. After opening several companies throughout Arizona and Florida before turning age 30, Josh spent a short “retirement” traveling and living in his school bus named "The Future," eventually planting himself back in Benzie when he married the love of his life. In October of 2014 he was hired as Grow Benzie's first, full-time Executive Director where he continues developing the non-profit as a thriving community center with event center, commercial kitchen, incubator farm, bee apiary, co-working office space, a farmers market, makerspace, sewing studio, edible trail system, and community gardens. In 2018, Josh was awarded the Systems Changemaker Fellowship by Rotary Charities of Traverse City, accepted into Forum for the Future's School of Systems Change based in London and traveling to England and Russia. Set Aside Convictions — Move On In Your Life: In April 2021, Michigan enacted the Clean Slate Law to help those with criminal records seek expungement through the legal system. If you're a runner you will love this podcast. Recently I signed up for my first Ultra , 50km precisely. In doing so I have been reading extensively about better ways to run efficiently, nutrition, recovery etc. It never crossed my mind to question my perception of how I run. Proprioception in sport is vital and this conversation highlighted this relationship. I recommend giving Shane's book a read if you're a runner or if you're looking for an interesting read about human movement. Review for the book will be up soon on our @oneminutebookreview page. In the meantime, enjoy this podcast.
