Hey Dr. Bill Senyard here with God's love for the unlovable and Gospel Rant podcast. Welcome to my series on the book of Hebrews. We will knock out the important  Chapter 10 in this show. Often scholars emphasize the differences between the effectiveness of the temple in the Old Covenant and the work of Jesus in the New Covenant. Chapter 10 is about that for sure, but I am going to suggest that the larger issue is about how God-followers are affected, or not affected by each. You will see what I mean.  If you haven't listened to the last show, I am building upon it quite a bit. Look the idea is this. The theology of the two sacrifices is great, important and very interesting. But for the most part, most of us already know this. The thing that could just change our lives, change how we worship God, and change how we treat each other is in how we understand what the sacrifice was designed to accomplish for each of us individually. Let me put it another way. Have you drifted away from your original joy of your salvation? Do you wonder if you are a disappointment to Jesus? Are you tired of going to church because you just end up feeling more guilty and ashamed? If yes to any of these, I think that you will love this show. The mental health crisis in our country is at critical mass. Children are struggling like never before and parents are concerned, as they should be.   What foundation do we need to have in place to help our kids to be strong mentally?   Catherine's guest, Dr. Bill Senyard, shares some warning signs that a child is struggling and offers practical ways to establish a strong foundation for your child's mental health.   Attachment theory, the prevailing psychological theory in child development, emphasizes a child's emotional bond with their primary caregiver. Dr. Senyard defines the four primary attachment styles that a child can exhibit. They are:   Secure—confident, reciprocal, non-reactive, resilient. Anxious—emotional, reactive, volatile. Fearful—composite of anxious and avoidant. Avoidant—isolated, emotionally distant.   One relational style is mentally healthy and strong (secure), the other three are showing signs of distress., of a breakdown in mental health (anxious, fearful, and avoidant). In this episode, Dr. Senyard gives practical ways to help children who exhibit those unhealthy traits.   Dr. Bill Senyard's bio: Bill's career has taken him from being a Chemical engineer, a strategic management consultant, and a co-owner of an Inc. 500 high-tech company to fulltime church ministry where he served multiple congregations as a Lead Pastor for over 35 years. Hey Dr. Bill Senyard here with Gospel App ministries and Gospel Rant Podcast. Thanks for listening. We have a lot to cover today, two chapters, 8 &9. They represent a single argument or sermon. Very important. Very relevant today. We will dip into some weeds, but the punch line is golden. Review. From what we have seen in previous shows, the prime targeted audience of the book of Hebrews is Messianic Jews, believers, but they are observably ‘drifting', ‘dull', and suffering from ‘dead works' (nekron ergon). I am going to suggest that we are all prone to all three. It is time we start admitting it.  In 6:1, he says they should have moved past trying to repent of their dead works (nekron ergon)—hold on to that phrase. We will see it again. In that mode, it seems that they were abandoning meeting with their gathered brothers and sisters in Christ and running back to find solace in Judaism again, or to the Jewish mystery religions. Both look pretty good on paper, but they are powerless to clean the conscience of a backslider.  To make it worse, real persecution is coming, Nero—and their guilt-stricken faith will be shattered and rendered ineffective. They will feel orphaned. So in this show, chapters 8 & 9 we will cover three points that are ridiculously relevant today. The problem—what are these dead works. What they have been doing to fix the problem—that isn't working no matter how hard they try The real remedy then and today. Believe me when I say that #3 is the big deal for the author of Hebrews, not the argument leading up to it. You will see what I mean. Such good news. If we get stuck on the argument, we end up with mere theology that doesn't help hurting and lonely people today. May is Mental Health Awareness Month, and according to the CDC, our kids are facing a mental health crisis. Consider these recent statistics:   *Suicide & homicide rates in youth ages 10 to 24 are the highest they have been in decades, since 1968. *42% of adolescents are feeling sadness and hopelessness, up 50% from 2011 (57% are females). *22% of all students have considered attempting suicide, up from 36%. *Youth and young adults (ages 10-24) account for 15% of all suicides, an increase of 52.2% since 2000. *Suicide has become the second-leading cause of death for youth ages 10-24. *46% of adolescence ages 13 to 17 say that social media makes their body image worse.   Parents are justifiably concerned, and often they don't know where to start when a child is struggling mentally.   Catherine's guest in this episode is Dr. Bill Senyard, a mental health expert who specializes in helping parents reconnect the critical bond with their child to address the foundation of their mental health.   Every child has two primary needs from their parents:   1. They need to feel CONNECTED.   2. They need to feel like they are ENOUGH.   A child must know that their parents have their back, and they must know that they are loved no matter what. If this critical foundation breaks down, a child will become disconnected from their parents and others. They will suffer in all of their relationships and in their mental health.   Bill shares how to reestablish that connection through attunement. If one in every three interactions with our kids attune to their foundational emotional needs, we can reconnect with our child and build a strong mental foundation for life.   Dr. Bill Senyard's bio: Bill's career has taken him from being a Chemical engineer, a strategic management consultant, and a co-owner of an Inc. 500 high-tech company to fulltime church ministry where he served multiple congregations as a Lead Pastor for over 35 years. Hey Dr. Bill Senyard here. Welcome to God's love for the unlovable. We are going through the Book of Hebrews. It is very unique and for the most part, poorly covered by most pulpits. Why? Well you will find out again in this show. The Greek word for righteous and righteousness is used 8x in Hebrews. It is implied in many other places. Here's the thing. We in the West have wildly misunderstood what the Bible means by righteousness—So much so, it is even hard to recognize. It is to our detriment. In this show, we will unpack the very important concept. Theresa Alexander Inman engages in a transformative conversation with Dr. Bill Senyard, an experienced pastor, disciple, and parenting expert. Dr. Senyard delves into the profound concepts of attunement and the critical importance of forging deep connections with children from infancy through adolescence. With over 30 years of experience and as the author of numerous books, he shares insights into overcoming challenges like identity, relationships, shame, addiction, and loneliness through forgiveness and understanding. Dr. Sanyard emphasizes the significance of attunement in the early years and offers hope for a "redo" during adolescence, showcasing the potential for strengthening bonds and fostering security and self-worth in children. Through simple yet impactful strategies, including intentional communication and expressing unwavering support, Dr. Senyard illustrates how parents can navigate the complexities of raising children in today's world. His message is clear: through understanding, forgiveness, and intentional engagement, parents can cultivate a nurturing environment that champions their children's growth and well-being. Ensuring they feel they are enough and connected, thus paving the way for a healthier, more resilient future generation. About Bill Senyard Dr. Bill is passionate about helping frustrated and beat up Christian parents of teens and tweens. Post-Covid numbers are coming in. Depression, anxiety, suicide ideation and violence are all on the rise. How our parents raised us just isn't working well anymore. Dr. Bill created a FREE online course (15 parent tips sent to participants one a day for 15 days) called “Good Enough Parent.” The phrase “good enough” comes from Attachment Theory researchers who suggest that it only takes 30% of really good interactions with children to be ‘good enough parents”—meaning that your child can likely enter into their next stage of growth more secure, less avoidant and anxious. 3 out of 10 is pretty doable. Welcome back to The Communicate & Connect Podcast with your host, Elizabeth Polinsky. Today, we continue our special series on attachment in relationships with a highly anticipated guest, Dr. Bill Senyard, who brings 25 years of pastoral counseling experience and a deep understanding of attachment theory principles. Before we dive in, remember to take our ARE quiz based on the brief accessibility, responsiveness, and engagement scale to assess the attachment dynamics in your own relationships. In this episode, we'll explore the profound questions of "can I count on you" and "am I worthy of love," as we discuss how our earliest experiences shape our capacity for forming secure emotional connections. Dr. Senyard will guide us through the four quadrants of attachment theory—secure, anxious, avoidant, and disorganized—shedding light on how these styles influence our behaviors and relationships. We also delve into the intersection of attachment theory and spirituality, examining how a relationship with God can provide a sense of security and value, aiding in emotional self-regulation. Dr. Senyard shares insights into how spiritual attachment impacts interactions in our relationships, with a special focus on the unique challenges that military families may face. Through this journey, we'll confront the fear cycle, understand how to express hurt constructively, and learn the role of pastoral and EFT marriage counseling in fostering secure connections. Dr. Senyard will also introduce his "good enough parent online" program, offering faith-based, scientific parenting tips catered to improving parent-teen interactions, a resource that's especially relevant to our military families listening in. Whether you're looking to strengthen your relationship with your partner, navigate parenting in the digital age, or understand the power dynamics within spirituality, this episode provides guidance to help you out. Welcome to Gospel Rant. I am Dr. Bill Senyard. This is the eighth episode of my new series Power2Change. P2C8. Remember the classic SNL sketch about Blue Oyster Cult's “Don't Fear The Reaper” with Christopher Walken and Will Ferrell? The punch line was about cowbells. Brother, sister, we need more cowbells. We are going to look at the spiritual equivalent of more cowbells, Joy. Don't settle for less. I have faith in you that you can do it. Let's have some fun. It is critical. Dr. Bill Senyard here with Gospel App Ministries, Good Enough Parent, and the Gospel Rant Podcast. Look, here's the thing. I think that we pro-life Christians can do a much better job in this arena. In fact, I wonder if we are shooting ourselves in the foot more that we want to admit. Many years ago, the comedian George Carlin lambasted pro-lifers for our inconsistencies—and poor messaging. To a large degree, I think he was right. Things have not changed much. We can do better, be encouraged. This show is to throw my two cents into the mix. This was a special one-off show. I hope that you are listening to and enjoying my current series on my youTube channel (DrBillSenyard) and the Gospel Rant podcast called Power2Change, about how the power of the gospel can actually begin to truly defeat addictions, whether it is to drugs, porn, alcohol, sex, social media, or anything else. SPECIAL and IMPORTANT GOSPEL RANT! Crazy right? Dr. Bill Senyard here with Gospel App Ministries, Good Enough Parent and the Gospel Rant Podcast. 40 million people have stopped going to church in the last 30 years.  In 2019, the year before COVID, far more protestant churches closed than opened in the US. The average congregation size is now less than half what it was in 2000. 1/3 of churchgoers are 65 or older. Summary, far fewer churches, even so, each still is suffering decreasing attendance, and is notably greying.  Per Christianity Today, church closures are predicted to snowball. By 2025, 100,000 North American churches could close their doors.  Someone called it the Great Dechurching. This is happening at the very same time that so many Americans are feeling increasingly anxious and lonely. New survey shows that one in three said they feel lonely at least once a week. Worse, one in 10 Americans say they feel lonely every day. But, they are not thinking that churches are the answer. Sad. No-Problem Parenting™ How to Become the Confident Leader Your Kids Crave You to Be, More Respect, Better Relationship, Get

Welcome Back No-Problem Parents!   Topic: Attachment theory suggests that our children have two subconscious questions that drive their behaviors. Q1: Is there someone out there who really has my back, who I can count on no matter what? Q2: Is there someone out there who actually loves me as I am? Ideally, parents are the answers to both of those questions.   One way or another parents can lean into becoming that person. There are baby-steps to get there.   By the time your child is 2 years old, they have already formed deeply rooted inner-working models that cause them to see relationships and the world in a certain way. These inner working models can be modified by an intentional effort by parents and caregivers--particularly during adolescence.   Questions: What is the attachment theory? What difference does it make to parenting? What is the importance of attunement?   I have tweens or teens now. Is there something that I can do that would change how they respond to me? How is all of this related to the gospel? What does the name Good Enough Parent mean? What is the Good Enough Parent program all about? Who benefits?   Bio: Dr. Bill Senyard is an author, speaker, and pastor of 30 years. He is a husband, parent of three, and grandparent of two—so far. His podcast, the Gospel Rant, is #43 in Feedspot's top 100 Christian podcasts. His passion is to help frustrated, beat-up, and weary Christians begin to hear the music again. We live in a rough time. Despite all the knowledge, grace, and blessings that come from being a Christian, many of us regularly fall radically short of the mark. We miss opportunities to really show a deep and powerful love to our spouses, our children, and our communities. We're  so focused on the hyper rational that we've lost site that God's love isn't rational. And ours isn't supposed to be either. Join me in this episode as Dr. Bill Senyard returns to the show. We have a fantastic discussion that drifts across topics of parenting, surrender, and how to counter the effects of the modern culture. It's no secret that relationships are important. They are the binding agent that sets us up for success in life and contribute to longevity, too! Often we want a "one size fits all" approach to relationships to apply across the board and make it all make sense in a neat step-by-step process. While there are amazing tools and processes out there, we understand that relationships are complex, unique, and come with their own histories, traumas, and perspectives. This week we are leaning in to the most frequently asked questions, maybe some controversial hot topics, but all with the goal to provide avenues that guide us toward a healthy soul.   About Dr. Bill Senyard: Dr. Bill is the President of Gospel App Ministries. He has been a pastor for over 25 years, the author of over 15 books, a popular conference speaker and the host of the Gospel Rant podcast. His passion is helping beat-up and frustrated Christians hear the music again. To that end, the Gospel App has created three on-line participative programs. The Forgiving Path is a 2-hour journey to help Christians actually forgive that deeply entrenched hurt and wound. Over 1000 people have been through the Path. Participants self-report a 20% reduction in their desire for revenge. The Dance is designed to help people deal with shame and depression. It takes about 2 hours. Most recently, we created Good Enough Parent for frustrated parents of teens and tweens who want to be more good enough parents. It is immersed in the Gospel but utilizes the latest research in neuroscience and Attachment Theory. Good Enough Parent is free for all who want to participate. This ain't your parent's Sunday School class. We have got nothing personally against Sunday School. Our main host, Dr. Bill Senyard was a Lead Pastor for over 25 years. It's just that churches serve a declining number people—each loved by God. Did you know that 2/3rds of young adults have left churches. One researcher has predicted that 20% of churches shutter their doors in the next 18 months. In 1990, only 7% of Americans reported having no religion. Thirty years later, in 2020, the percentage claiming to be nonreligious had quadrupled, with almost 3 in 10 Americans having no religion. There are now more nonreligious Americans than affiliates of any one single religious tradition, including the two largest: Catholicism and evangelical Protestantism. We are a single generation from becoming a post-Christian nation. Why? You may not like these reasons or you may get defensive but here they are.1) Churches are seen as largely irrelevant2) Churches are considered unsafe places 3) Churches are just irrelevant, as uncivil as every other institution. Time to change. Whether you agree or not, the Gospel Rant is meant to be a unique mind-clearing elixir—not everybody's cup of tea for sure. Our main goal is to educate, challenge the status quo, admit our many errors and ultimately to wake Christians up. We may even pick a fight or two along the way, just to get people's attention. Honestly, wouldn't you admit that you've been bored with the standard talking-head fare for a while? Us too. Welcome to the Gospel Rant.
