Neugierig? Dann hör rein!

Gundersen dietitian Laura Birkel joined La Crosse Talk PM on Tuesday to discuss the annoying “diet” no normal person can sustain, is “Ozempic” and “Wegovy” weight loss drugs too good to be true, dangerous supplements and making your New Year's Resolutions stick. Birkel is in her eighth year as a dietitian — four with Gundersen Health System in Onalaska. We spent, again, quite a bit of time talking about Ozempic and Wegovy, drugs that change your brain chemistry. Also, had Birkel describe the “Mediterranean” diet, before I ripped on it for being unsustainable with most people's lifestyle. Then we hit on new trends. In the past five years, energy drinks may have been one of those, but Birkel has been getting a lot of questions on “protein drinks.” So, we discussed the positives and negatives of protein additives and the role of protein, in general. Then we got into New Year's resolutions, using tech to stick to your goals and we wrapped up talking about dangerous supplements out there and what to watch for. La Crosse Talk PM airs weekdays at 5:06 p.m. Listen on the WIZM app, online or on 92.3 FM / 1410 AM / 106.7 FM (north of Onalaska). Dietitian Laura Birkel joined La Crosse Talk PM last week to break down dairy v. plant milk, what to eat before the big game, and the new weight loss drug, Ozempec, among other things. Birkel has been a dietitian for seven years, the last three of which at Gundersen Health System in La Crosse. We spent quite a bit of time trying to decipher the news surrounding the diabetes drug, like Ozempic, that more and more people are taking simply to lose weight. Do the frightening headlines people see about the drug have any basis in reality or are they just headline porn? Also, with school starting and high school and college sports getting back into full swing, we discussed some of the things people should eat before the game — whether that's the night before, hours before or right before playing. We also talked about dairy v. plant milk, if sparkling water is good for you and how bad is cheese, really?See omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.
We threw a ton of food/drink questions at Gundersen dietitian Laura Birkel, in studio, including fake sugars like diet soda, fried foods contributing to depression, stupid serving sizes and the Top 5 worst things you can put in your body. Began the show on serving sizes, after seeing a loaf of bread's serving is one slice, and just how prevalent that is among things we eat. Also discussed a study that says eating fried foods — especially french fries — leads to increased anxiety and depression. The second half of the show focused on fake sugars, like in diet soda, and what they do to your body — and whether it's better to drink regular or diet. Also got Birkel's Top 5 worst things you can eat/drink, as state fair season approaches, and hit on little things here and there like how good/bad coffee or energy drinks are for you. Look Ma' No Hands is BACK...and trust me, this conversation is all the proof you'll need to know it's better than ever. In this first episode of Season Two, I'm welcoming one of your favorite guests, Megan Birkel of Willow Crowns, back to the podcast to discuss: Zoloft and motherhood What's really important in parenting (and what's really NOT) The kind of mothering that really pisses us off Meghan Markle (you don't want to miss this part) and more!
This week Alex sits down with current Logan student, Payton Birkel. They talk about her difficulties with finding balance between work and school early on, and how finally finding that balance has opened up the space for her to succeed in other areas of her life.

Gundersen registered dietitian Laura Birkel joined to break down some of myths out there in the food world, how to navigate protein as a vegan, those pre-made dinners we see everywhere and some discrepancies with the new food compass — plus much more. Some of those food myths included whether things like eggs or coffee are healthy. We also talked about some sports myths, like drinking pickle juice to stave off cramps and if protein powder is a good supplement. A big thing today, since we have no time to cook as a society, we see these pre-made dinners, which look like they've replaced frozen dinners. We bet Birkel's take on whether they are actually healthy? Birkel works out of the Onalaska clinic at Gundersen Health System. We began the show talking a bit about what she does and who could/should go see her or her colleagues. See omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.

Have you thought about couple's therapy? Or, perhaps you have tried therapy but it really wasn't a fit. In this episode we will talk about the couples' therapy experience and what you can expect, receive, and gain from a good couple's therapist. Top Take-A-Ways: The difference between normal and healthy and what it means to be in a healthy relationship. Empowerment, self-worth, and “other based” esteem and why having a foundation of value is the essential first step in relationships. Understanding “carried emotions” from one's past versus present-day emotions and operating from the “wise adult self” instead of the wounded child Why relationships are a choice – for both partners – and why therapy will only work when both partners are willing to do the work. Shane Birkel is a Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist who sparks change in people's lives and relationships. He helps individuals and couples who want to feel satisfied in their connection with their partner but feel like no matter what they do it just leads to stress and frustration. He supports them in exploring their history and uncovering patterns they may not even be aware of so that they can begin to have more control of their emotions and be excited about their relationship again. In his years of experience working with individuals and couples with relationship issues, he knows that you have the ability to make big changes in your life. If you are ready to do the work, you will be amazed at how capable you are to explore parts of yourself you never knew existed. The process of therapy can allow you to grow more quickly than you ever have before.
Wir reden u.a.

So often, many of us are still just waiting on our parents to show up for us in the way we needed them to when we were little. Sometimes we're consciously aware of this, oftentimes we're not. And it can continue long after our parents have passed, if we haven't made the unconscious conscious and learned to reparent ourselves. Otherwise, we often unintentionally seek this fulfillment from our most intimate relationships. In this episode, I chat with fellow Certified Relational Life Therapist, Shane Birkel, who is able to take these big concepts and ground them in very clear language and context. If you're new or feeling resistance to the idea of Relational Life Therapy, this episode is a great point of entry. Tune in as Shane and I discuss families of origin, healthy versus toxic shame, the importance of compassion and grief work during conflict, and what healthy relationships actually look like.
