Two common issues in churches tend to show up together, even though at first glance they don't feel related at all: first engagement steps and physical capacity. On the surface, they sound like two completely different problems. But, in reality, they're way more connected than most leaders realize. You can't grow sustainably if you're not engaging people well, and you can't engage people well if you don't have the space to serve them. These are two of the most common barriers we see; however, the good news is that these have proven solutions. We're wrapping up our series on Five Common Core Issues in Churches by talking about revitalizing your playbook for first engagement steps, getting ahead of your capacity limits and thinking strategically to support health and growth in these areas. Churches everywhere, no matter the size, are struggling with this: the lack of a deep leadership bench. One of the most common pain points we see in churches is not having enough leaders in the pipeline. This puts them in a constant reactive mode, often filling positions out of desperation rather than developing leaders intentionally. New leaders don't identify themselves; you won't drift into success here. You have to be intentional to take the time to work on your leadership bench. We'll show you how. In part two of our series, "Five Common Core Issues in Churches," Sean and Amy talk about the symptoms of a shallow leadership bench, how to build out a leadership development framework and what to start (and stop) doing if this issue sounds familiar to you. After serving more than 750 churches, we've noticed a clear pattern: No matter the size, style, or model, many churches wrestle with a similar set of challenges. They show up in different ways, but the root issues are surprisingly common across the board. That's good news for pastors and ministry leaders—because if the challenges are common, the solutions can be too. You're not alone. And you're not the first church to navigate these obstacles. In this series, we're taking a closer look at five of the most common challenges that consistently show up in our work with churches, starting with the strategy issues. In this episode, Amy and Sean talk about strategies to reach your mission field and strategies for financial health. Senator Leo Housakos joined Toronto Today with Greg Brady to discuss the protest turned riot in Montreal this past weekend. Senator Housakos explained how he opposed the scenes in Montreal and said it was something he never dreamed of ever seeing here in Canada. He laid blame at the doorstep of Prime Minister Justin Trudeau and believes the core issues behind these protests start at the top with the PM. Senator Housakos also stated that police have their hands tied in managing the protests and says that many politicians don't have their back in supporting how to manage the protests. He also pointed out the differences in response to the protest compared to the trucker "freedom convoy" in Ottawa in 2022 vs the pro-Palestine protests in Montreal this weekend. I believe this world and this life is at the core, truly beautiful and glorious. And, we have some very concerning trends to address. Health care is the number one GNP in America. We spend more money, not on our health, but our unhealth, than on anything else. Why? Lifestyle. Just do the research. It's not happening to it, we are doing it to ourselves. A very unpopular perspective, but in truth, isn't that the best news? You have power, otherwise you are claiming victimhood. Healthcare in America has become sick-management. And we address the symptoms. Even cancer, which my Dad just died of, is a symptom. We try to beat cancer and don't ask…what is causing cancer. We create a new drug to treat every growing problem, without asking why the problem exists and keeps growing. Let's ask. 3 Core Issues that characterize the Christian grand-parenting movement.
We are so excited to have Abby and Alicia from No Heart Left Behind on the podcast today. A good podcast with lots of good insight. They really have a focus -- like us -- of getting to the core issues in the heart of the parent and the heart of a child. We talked a lot first about the parent and then about the child. With the parent, we also talked about how to change our own heart through walking with Jesus and the role of friends/small groups in our lives. When do we go for counseling? How much should we depend on our close friendships in this process? How can we help others? With the kids, they talked a lot about helping the child feel like the matter to the parents. Difference between love and mattering. Also, she said three keys: Significance, belonging, security. We dove deep into topics like connection, time and relationship. Talked about building our core and then helping our kids build their core. Highlights from podcast: No Heart Left Behind birth story Personal testimonies The value of counseling – methods they use to help families Countless mic drop moments/words of wisdom

Following Jesus is not a silver bullet that instantly delivers us from the guilt, shame, and the magnetic pull of sin. But following Jesus is the start! And it’s the only path to experiencing any kind of freedom from the sins that want to pull us under never to come up again. Davis Moore, author and pastor of Corner Bible Church in Allegan, MI joins the team to talk about the journey to being changed through the power of Jesus and his gospel. And guess what? It takes some heart surgery! If you’re still crippled by sin and you feel like the gospel isn’t working for you. If you have little hope of ever changing or have given up completely, this conversation is for you. Perry and Davis share vulnerably how hard it is to change but that the gospel really is the power of God for inside out transformation. Thriving Adoptees - Inspiration For Adoptive Parents & Adoptees
Self worth seems like a nice idea. Something we are working on. Something that we might have some day. What if that day is today? Listen in as transracial adoptee and therapist Sally gets right to heart of feeling our value for ourselves.Sally is a licensed clinical social worker, who enjoys working with adults who need support during a variety of life stressors. She understands how challenging it can be to trust someone new, so she does her best to earn your trust by being honest, consistent, following through, and prioritizing what you want to get out of therapy. Once that trust is earned, she enjoys the privilege of joining you in exploring your values, identity, habits that work and ones that don't, skills to manage stressful situations, and responses that help you live a more manageable and enjoyable life. Clients say she is calming, honest, respectful, supportive, and encouraging. She helps people with adjustment to changes in life, anxiety, depression, stress, perinatal mood and anxiety disorders, relinquishment and adoption issues, relationship difficulties, and grief. She values discovering the “Why” and shifting the focus to the questions of “How”, “When”, and “What” to help people move toward what is important to them.Working with individuals who are adopted is especially close to Sally's heart because she was adopted at age 5 from Seoul, Korea. She presented on panels and individually at Bethany Christian Services, Korean American Adoptee Adoptive Family Network (KAAN), China Culture Club, Families for International Children (FFIC), Calvin Theological Seminary, Pine Rest's CPE classes for pastors, Adoption Family Support Network (AFSN), and church groups to help educate and walk alongside adoptees, adoption workers, adoptive parents, pastors, foster parents, friends, and family as they learn to understand and work through the 7 Core Issues of Adoption (Deborah N. Silverstein and Sharon Kaplan, 1982). Since she is transracailly adopted, she also understands the challenges of being racially Asian and culturally white, so enjoys helping other transracial adoptees sort through the layers of their identities and belonging. She graduated with her Master's in Social Work from Western Michigan University. Her clinical background includes working with adults at Pine Rest in various areas, such as Spruce Lodge, Mother Baby and Adult Partial Programs, and at the Pine Rest Northeast Clinic as an outpatient therapist for individuals and groups. She was also Executive Director of Ramoth House, an emergency shelter for abused women and children.Email her at ginko1320@gmail.comFind out more at:https://www.instagram.com/sallyvjo/?hl=enhttps://www.linkedin.com/in/sally-verstraete-lmsw-2b7394b4/

We are often taught to build self-confidence without even making reference to an authentic Self, we think that vulnerabilities make us weak. But actually, just the reverse is true. For, how might one come to know one's self completely without getting intimate with one's own vulnerabilities? How will we know our deepest needs, and most authentic desires, without coming to know our vulnerabilities? And isn't it our vulnerabilities that allow us to take loving care of ourselves? There are many more things that our vulnerabilities do for us. And we are going to talk about them all this week. Don't miss it.
Too often, those struggling with porn/sex addiction focus primarily on their outward addiction behaviors--the "symptoms" of addiction. Many believe, "Once I get sober, I'll be good to go." While sobriety is crucially important, it is NOT "recovery." If an addict is unwilling to look beyond the addiction behaviors to the deep "core issues" driving their unwanted, destructive behaviors, the "symptoms" will just keep coming back. In this episode, Mark & Steve talk about what these "core issues," how to identify and start working on them. This week, we're revisiting a conversation with my good friend, psychiatrist, and author, Dr. Curt Thompson. About today's conversation, Curt said, "Most of our well-intended attempts to counter the storms of our inner and outer lives involve identifying our problems and devising solutions for them. But in our hurry to diagnose and treat our diseases of the soul, we are often outrun by the very fear that is driving us to identify and resolve them.” This is perhaps one of the most emotional episodes I've ever recorded, but there's a holistic approach to understanding shame, loss, trauma, and our souls' deepest desire that I trust will bring a fresh perspective and hope to you today, so buckle-up.
