One of the hottest clean energy sectors continues to flourish thanks to new markets and rich incentives. But it's also getting tougher. First-mover states are saturating, fueling intense competition. And those rich incentives? They're increasingly tied to serving elusive low-income customers often skeptical of promises that are too good to be true.So what's in store for community solar in 2024?Episode 74 of the Factor This! podcast features Bruce Stewart, the CEO of community solar subscriber management platform Perch Energy.Stewart maps out new markets on the way this year, breaks down the challenge of acquiring, and keeping, low-income customers, and shares the latest on the highly-anticipated reboot of California's troubled community solar program. Episode #176: Jonathan Crowley's journey into meditation at Dhamma Dhara was both fascinating and fulfilling. As he immersed himself in vipassana meditation in the tradition of S.N. Goenka, he discovered a deeper understanding of the practice, and himself, along with the joy of serving as a volunteer. However, learning how to integrate his newfound wisdom into everyday life posed challenges, compounded by the fact that at this time in the 1980s, meditation was still considered fringe and largely outside the bounds of conventional society.Still, Jonathan pondered how vipassana meditation could impact society and bridge the worlds of introspection and social change. Around this time, the center was organizing courses for traumatized Cambodian refugees who had escaped the Pol Pot regime and were being relocated in Massachusetts. While these initiatives brought the world to the center, Jonathan still yearned to find a way to bring the center into the world. An opportunity arose when he accompanied Bruce Stewart, a senior teacher, to a maximum-security prison in Alabama, where they were allowed to conduct an intensive meditation course for inmates. While it was a transformative experience at the time, later Jonathan would reflect upon his racial naiveté and how he had positioned himself into a role as a “White savior.”Increasingly concerned about the lack of diversity within the organization's leadership, Jonathan advocated for targeted courses for Black communities and tracking retention rates by demographics, but the center showed little interest.Earlier in his practice, Jonathan had been deeply moved by how Goenka attempted to universalize the technique, proclaiming that “breath is breath,” and explaining that it couldn't be differentiated according to nationality, religion or skin color. But Jonathan was beginning to see that there was more to this story than this universalist-sounding messaging. “I understand structural racism as intergenerational trauma,” he notes. “So now, I would say that even our breaths and our sensations are conditioned by this level of trauma, and that has to be addressed.”

Pastor Bruce Stewart is originally from Australia. He likes to say "Deep South Texas." Bruce is a pastor, he was the lead pastor and founder of a Church in Spring, Texas. He left there to become the first Director of the Stronger Alliance. He is the pastor for reflective life Ministries, and he serves on the advisory board for Care Force, an organization that provides crisis training, response, and organizational development for the community and first responder organizations. He has quite a few hats that he has to wear. He used to work at HPD, and now he works also with a precinct of three constables. He is a chaplain there, and then he also helps veterans with PTSD, teen suicide, and then helping with veterans for child rescue and just a bunch of things. Things He loves, all-volunteer, so he loves it. He is part of the We are Stronger film that's just really grown and taken off. Yeah, that's been fantastic, he says. “You know, you've obviously seen the film and, and we had such an amazing response to them. So for those listeners who haven't seen it, it's basically a movie about a veteran coming home, who has PTSD and finds healing through Christ. And with the film, we realized that this is going to open a lot of wounds for a lot of people, not just for veterans, but for their families and how that will affect them. And so we wanted to provide services that would allow them to get help after seeing the movie. And so that's what the stronger alliance is and we provide Christ-centered organizations to hopefully, give them hope and give them joy and find a new way forward through difficult times, and most of us know the needs of that during COVID and, and everything that's going on in the world the desire need for hope. And, and obviously, we find that in Christ also” It just breaks your heart and to see that people that have signed on the line to serve our country feel that they have reached a point of darkness that that's their only option out. Yeah, and unfortunately that's a lie. Veterans. It's also a lot of first responders. You know, as I started working in the first responder community, particularly in law enforcement, I've come to realize, in fact, something that a lot of people may not know, we actually have more first responders die, by suicide than we do in the line of duty. . And so that in itself should be enough to be a wake-up call to our community. And so, I saw the need, I saw that just a real hunger for, for hope, as I said, just a desire for something more, you know, you train these men, you train these first responders to be warriors to go out onto the frontlines and to do the things that most of us can't do, or unwilling to do. And then they come back, and of course, you know, they're looking for that purpose again. We have to learn to be that person we would want at our darkest time. What can we do as Pastors? More than 90% of Pastors have not been trained in suicide prevention. Where do Pastors go when we need help. Conversations at the Washington Library kicks off Season 5 by exploring the life of a radical populist who never met a revolution he didn't like. Almost unbelievably, Herman Husband participated in some of the most significant events in eighteenth-century America: The Great Awakening; the North Carolina Regulation Movement; The American Revolution; and the Whiskey Rebellion. Husband's story illuminates the major religious, political, and economic upheavals that reshaped North America in this period, and we might just see some parallels between his time and our own. On today's show, Dr. Bruce Stewart, a professor of history at Appalachian State University, joins Jim Ambuske to unpack Husband's life. He is the author of the new book, Redemption from Tyranny: Herman Husband's American Revolution, published in 2020 by the University of Virginia Press. It's a compelling story of early America told through the eyes of a man for whom revolutions never went far enough. About Our Guest: Bruce Stewart, Ph.D. is Professor of History at Appalachian State University. He earned his M.A. in History from Western Carolina University and his Ph.D. in History from the University of Georgia. His areas of study are United States History and Appalachian History. He is the author of four books, including his latest, Redemption from Tyranny: Herman Husband's American Revolution (UVA Press, 2020). About Our Host: Jim Ambuske, Ph.D. leads the Center for Digital History at the Washington Library. A historian of the American Revolution, Scotland, and the British Atlantic World, Ambuske graduated from the University of Virginia in 2016. He is a former Farmer Postdoctoral Fellow in Digital Humanities at the University of Virginia Law Library. At UVA Law, Ambuske co-directed the 1828 Catalogue Project and the Scottish Court of Session Project. Almost unbelievably, Herman Husband participated in some of the most significant events in eighteenth-century America: The Great Awakening; the North Carolina Regulation Movement; The American Revolution; and the Whiskey Rebellion. Husband’s story illuminates the major religious, political, and economic upheavals that reshaped North America in this period, and we might just see some parallels between his time and our own. On today’s show, Dr. Bruce Stewart, a professor of history at Appalachian State University, joins Jim Ambuske to unpack Husband’s life. He is the author of the new book, Redemption from Tyranny: Herman Husband’s American Revolution, published in 2020 by the University of Virginia Press. It’s a compelling story of early America told through the eyes of a man for whom revolutions never went far enough. He is currently at work on a book about emigration from Scotland in the era of the American Revolution as well as a chapter on Scottish loyalism during the American Revolution for a volume to be published by the University of Edinburgh Press. --- Send in a voice message: https://anchor.fm/mountvernon/message Support this podcast: https://anchor.fm/mountvernon/support

BTC $9386 Bruce Stewart AKA @Bitcoinwalking describes himself as a Crytpo Boomer who walks over 20km per day listening to Bitcoin podcasts. In this conversation he shares with us his amazing life journey, spanning 7 decades of ups and downs, including bankruptcy and becoming homeless in his 60's. Learn how he stumbled into Bitcoin and how Bitcoin is a new world and how Bitcoin is changing his outlook and perspective on how to save for the generations he will be leaving behind him. I can't thank Bruce enough for agreeing to come onto the show, he was very hesitant to do the interview at first and he does get emotional when talking about life a few times. But thankfully for us all Bruce decided his story and experiences might go some way to helping others in their own lives. Bruce blew me away with his honesty and openness and willingness to share all of his stories. It's real stories like Bruces that need to be heard and shared. I hope his insights into Bitcoin at the age of 72 will help unlock other people around the world from his same generation. I am also on a rampage to change the meme of #OKBoomer to #BoomerOK! The media at large are doing a great job of driving a wedge between the Boomer and younger generations and this is exactly why I wanted to talk to Bruce about how to bridge this divide and help people of all ages come together and work towards a better future. I think it is fair to say that there is nobody out there who has listened to more Bitcoin related podcasts than Bruce, which puts him in a unique position within the Bitcoin community. As it's Awards season, and coming off the back of the Oscars last night, I decided to have some fun and surprised Bruce with the inaugural “Bruce Stewart's Bitcoin Podcast Awards” Learn who wins in the following categories: Best Bitcoin Podcast For Beginners. Best Bitcoin Podcast For Technical and all round Knowledge. Best Bitcoin Podcast Cover Art. Best Bitcoin Podcast Intro Music. Best Newcomer to Bitcoin Podcasting. In 1959 "Big Daddy" Dave McCormick was hosting the Hi Fi Club, a syndicated radio show, on C-FUN. The producers would send the package but the local deejay would run the contests, read the commercials and follow the scripts supplied. Dave's show became so popular station management suggested he take over programming, and Dave took C-FUN to its very first Top 40 format. Dave was creative and went up against established CKWX and won the ratings battle. He was inventive, promotion minded and saw the future. He knew what the kids wanted and delivered with great deejays and music. Dave hired Frosty Forst, Jerry Landa, Brian Lord, Andy Laughland and Al Jordan and called them the Good Guys. He was the first in North America to use this phrase. When I returned from working in the US in 1961, I returned to CKWX but times had changed and C-FUN was now King of the Hill. When Dave quit C-FUN in 1962 to take a job in California radio, we worked together on the transition. We both announced the C-FUN top 50 songs of the week on a 4 hour radio show. Dave returned in later years to CFMI with his new show and a feature he called Discumentary. Dave McCormick passed away yesterday and the radio people who knew him loved him as listeners over the decades will long remember his gifts to Vancouver radio. We all will miss him. Rest in Peace old friend. Back in December 2009 I wrote about this painting on redrobinson.com. "The timing couldn't be better for the genius of Bruce Stewart to strike again with this brand new “fantasy” painting of Dave McCormick and the original C-FUN deejays. Bruce has the ability to capture the essence of an era. This period at C-FUN was the first fling at Top 40 that was totally driven by Dave. He left in early 1962 and that is when I joined the illustrious group. Brian “Baby Blue” Lord left at the same time. For more on C-FUN, visit Jim Bower's FUN-tastic site Vancouver Top 40 Radio http://www.vancouvertop40radio.com/. Jim was kind enough to pass along Bruce's note: 'Late evening – summer of 1961. I, as a boy of almost fifteen, in hospital for a small procedure, but bed-bound for almost two weeks. Nothing to do but count the holes in the acoustic ceiling tiles, over and over — and listen to C-FUN, when Roy the Boy was ‘Crying', and Paul Anka was ‘Kissing on the Phone'… all I could think of was the hot days and how they were passing me by, outside my window. And that imaginary summer view inside another window: the ‘Control Room' and the board, where mischief was afoot, with Big Daddy at the controls, the Good Guys providing backup, awaiting their turn at the mike, taking requests, spinning the disks and weaving the magic! A fantasy image of what the listener (me) imagined just what the DJ board at C-FUN might look like amid the chaos of a Summer Soundathon week — if radio had pictures! Only in the mind's eye of a listener, out there, everywhere around a place called Funland! In the late 60s, when I was working summers at UBC, I did an illustration for a dual Ampex tape deck module (reel to reel) commissioned by Stan Davis, whose company Broadcast Technical Services produced the module. Long after, I learned that Stan (now sadly passed) designed and built the technical end of C-FUN in the early 60s. I guess he was my inspiration for this piece, although a lot of my ‘technical' input was made up — part of my ‘imagining' concept. It IS a change from the other illustrations on the Vancouver Top 40 site, however! I kept adding more and more ‘stuff', until it became a bit of a MAD magazine piece with subplots abounding... cats keeping the mice population down, and Frosty passing a chipped 45 to a harried and overworked Dave!'”

Charlotte View interviews Dianne and Bruce Stewart and joins their efforts to spread the word about their case as they ask the American people: Are we the kind of family America wants here? "We have not once asked what America can do for us, but what we can do for America" The Stewart's are legal immigrants to the US, completely self-sufficient financially, manage their own businesses, own property and pay all their taxes and have never received any social services or other government support whatsoever, and yet, after 10 years living in the USA, they are still being denied Permanent Residence. On December 5, 2011 On this date, the last of the Stewart's visas will expire and if they are still in the United States on December 6, they will be overstays and forever barred from applying for permanent residence in the USA. There is only ONE possible solution – a Private Bill of Congress to grant Permanent Residence to Bruce, Dianne, Sarah and Michael Stewart. While this is rare and unusual, this route has been followed in extreme circumstances by US Senator Dianne Feinstein to prevent major injustices from occurring.
