A vision for a technologically and digitally enabled future for the Irish co-operative agrifood sector, with the skills of human beings remaining integrally engaged, was presented today at the final conference of the LeadFarm 5.0 project, held in Maynooth, Co. Kildare. The conference was opened by the Minister of State for Skills and Further Education, Niall Collins TD. The initiative started in May 2022 spearheaded by ICOS Skillnet in collaboration with Léargas and supported by the EU Erasmus+ programme. In the future, advanced technologies such as artificial intelligence (AI), the Internet of Things (IoT), robotics and big data will be integrated into all aspects of daily life. This integration aims to solve social challenges, improve quality of life and enhance the success of enterprises. The LeadFarm project focused on developing a competency framework and roadmap for Irish agrifood co-operatives to transition the skills of their people towards 'Society 5.0' or the 'super-intelligent society'. It has been a collaborative effort involving a broad and diverse range of co-operatives including management, farmers and workers from Ireland, Spain, Italy, Sweden, Poland, Latvia and Portugal. A training curriculum emerging from the project emphasises human skills acquisition in areas such as digitalisation, sustainability, management and entrepreneurship while highlighting the potential to balance digital advancements with human-robot collaboration. The approach aims to improve employment opportunities and skills in rural Ireland, creating a sustainable future for the industry. Minister Niall Collins TD said: "I congratulate the ICOS Skillnet for taking proactive steps to clarify the competencies required for the adoption of digital innovation by agri-food cooperatives. Initiatives like this ensure that Ireland shapes its future rather than simply respond to technological change ". ICOS President Edward Carr said: "The purpose of this conference is to disseminate the outcomes of the LeadFarm 5.0 project to as many stakeholders as possible. It outlines the good work carried out by this pan-European initiative and showcases the benefits to cooperatives and farmers across Europe. "ICOS is the lead partner in this project. This is with the specific aim to support various stakeholders, including co-operatives, social enterprises, boards of directors, farmers, trainers, and educators, with a particular focus on those at risk of exclusion, such as youth and women. "The concept is about ensuring the long-term sustainability of the industry through skill and talent development. We are focused on creating a more digitally aware society that will be human-centred and will take advantage of technology to tackle problems that affect the whole of society as well as our own industry. "The agri-food co-operative sector must participate, join this trend, and support the creation of a society which is aware and committed to the problems it faces, avoiding becoming a sector that remains a trace of the technological past." International collaboration and engagement of the lead partners from seven countries has fostered international collaboration and the exchange of best practices. All intellectual outputs have been secured for practical application within Ireland, ensuring the Irish agrifood sector can be aware and prepared for significant technological advancements. Minister Niall Collins acknowledged the importance of the project's achievements and the promotion of future success for Irish cooperative enterprises within the framework of Society 5.0. Further Background: LeadFarm 5.0 arises from the need to improve the knowledge, capacities and skills of European agri-food co-operatives regarding the use of digital innovations that can be easily adapted to new agricultural models that will largely replace the intensive industrial farming model and that will require changes in business decision-making processes. Agrifood co-operatives need to impr...

The traditional model of personalised learning existed in apprenticeships, where individuals received one-on-one guidance. However, implementing this in a classroom with multiple students is challenging but possible through differentiation. AI can potentially enhance personalised learning by constantly measuring an individual's progress against competency frameworks, eliminating the need for point assessments. This approach allows for continuous measurement of skills and abilities at an individual level. The discussion also addresses whether traditional assessment methods adequately prepare individuals for real-world work environments that involve deadlines and consistent performance over time. Additionally, the conversation highlights how AI tools can support teachers by reducing their administrative workload related to assessments, allowing them to focus more on building strong relationships with their students.

Teacher training includes education processes, systems, human behaviours and methods of engagement with students. That profession has been doing it for a while but which, if any, of those skills and what parts of that knowledge could be transferred to military training that might optimise training - even if just a little bit? Peter talks to Kate Heaton, an experienced teacher and HR professional in Higher and Further Education in the UK. Kate also has worked with the UK military which makes her identification of what can be transferred so accessible. The secret, revealed over this episode, is less about process and more about how we treat and value our own teachers and instructors. On the way to this conclusion, there are some surprising similarities but also some key differences. Genuinely interesting comparisons.

In this episode, I talk to the incredibly knowledgable Cheryl Straffon. Cheryl has taught me so much since I moved to Cornwall about ancient sites and the lineage of goddess culture in this land.We discuss Cornish ancient sites, how she researches to bring the sites alive and how she combines intuition, science, anthropology and archeology to understand how ancient people used the sites. We consider the status of women in society and storytelling and journey through the ages to understand more about sacred places.About Cheryl:Cheryl Straffon spent her childhood in Cornwall, UK, and then studied English &Comparative Religion at King's College London University for a B.A (Hons) degree.Following this, she did a post-graduate Education diploma at Cambridge University and then taught for some years in Secondary and Further Education in Scotland and England, before taking up Bookselling Training and then Librarianship. In 1986 she returned to Cornwall to live, where she was the Library Manager of St.Just Library for 20 years, before taking early retirement in 2006. For about 15 years she was firstly the Secretary and then the Chair of C.A.S.P.N [Cornish Ancient Sites Protection Network], a Charity that looks after the prehistoric sites in West Penwith, Cornwall, before she stepped down in 2017. However, she still continues to play a role in the organisation as Deputy-Chair, and organises the annual ‘Pathways to the Past' event (a weekend of walks and talks amongst the ancient sites), now in its 16 th year. In 2018 she was awarded the annual ‘Heritage Champion of the Year' (Sir Richard Trant award) from the Cornwall Heritage Trust. For the last 36 years she has produced and edited a magazine “Meyn Mamvro”, about the ancient stones and sacred sites in Cornwall, and written books including “Pagan Cornwall: Land of the Goddess”, “TheEarth Goddess”, “Daughters of the Earth”, “Megalithic Mysteries of Cornwall”, “Fentynyow Kernow”, “Between the Realms”, etc. She has given a number of talks and workshops, and has been a central figure in the Goddess movement: for 15 years she edited a magazine “Goddess Alive!” as well as being a Trustee for Women's Land in Cornwall, a co-organiser of the Goddess in Cornwall event, and a trainer on the Priestess of Kernow course. She is married to her partner Lana Jarvis, an accomplished dowser, and they share a love of the Land and the Ancient Sites, especially in Cornwall, and also in Crete, where they have had a house built, and where they spend some time each year.E-mail address - info@meynmamvro.co.ukWebsite: www.meynmamvro.co.ukAbout Meghan:Meghan Field is a Qoya Teacher, Embodiment Coach, Irish Celtic Shaman and Social Justice Activist who lives in Cornwall, U.K. Meghan is the Violence Against Women and Girls Strategic Lead for Plymouth City, has her own consultancy practice, is the owner of Sacred Kernow Retreats, the founder of The Intuition Conversations Podcast and the creator of multiple oracle decks. For many, the term “inclusion” is the end all for social justice efforts. But, in her new book, Erin Raffety suggests that “inclusion” doesn't work, at least in churches with disabled people. Listen to this quote: “The church is called apart from the world to repent of its ableism, disown its power, abandon inclusion, and pursue justice alongside disabled people.” Throughout her book she clarifies why inclusions falters and what justice might look like. She does this by interpreting scripture, drawing from her ethnographic research with congregations in Northeastern America, and engaging with disability activists and scholars. So, you'll get to hear about some of those things in our conversation. I'm excited for you to hear it. Erin Raffety is Associate Research Scholar at Princeton Theological Seminary and Research Fellow in Machine Intelligence & Pastoral Care at the Center for Theological Inquiry in Princeton, New Jersey. She is the author of From Inclusion to Justice, the book we're discussing today, which is out now through Baylor University Press. And I'm grateful also that Dr. Devan Stahl joined us for this conversation as a cohost. Devan is Assistant Professor of Religion here at Baylor University and author of a new book called Disability's Challenge to Theology (UND Press). You can listen to us discuss Devan's book in our episode "An Era of Soft Eugenics?" Resources for Further Education on Disability Visit Erin's curated list of resources on her website.
