A resident-led Town Hall questioned police on their safety plan if a drug consumption site is placed across from a Point Douglas high school. Episode 18 has exclusive details on what went on Tuesday night behind the scenes and at the microphone that you don't want to miss.Part 1- Marty Gold recaps his most recent reports in the Winnipeg Sun:Wednesday: Nurses in constant danger in hospitals province-wide-- Tick tock, the clock's run out on AsagwaraThursday: Residents believe crime will escalate if drug site opened-- Point Douglas pushback: Community rejects proposed drug site location10.15 Part 2- Over 40 political and police officials and staff paid by the taxpayer turned up at the Ashdown Market on Tuesday, as the residents east of Main St. called Bernadette Smith's bluff. It was an extraordinary development that has thrown the NDP government completely off-balance.In January, the Addictions Minister squelched questions from area stakeholders about how neighborhood safety would be protected as she relentlessly praised the consumption site proposed for their neighborhood. You'll hear how at the end of that meeting, Marty raised his voice to ask when or even if another public consultation would be held- and was ignored by Smith and staff of the Aboriginal Health and Wellness Centre who will operate the safe injection site. That was a big tell. * Support our Season Six reporting with a PayPal or E-Transfer donation - Donate Page *After no further meetings were conducted by the NDP, the people who have to live with the social disorder and violence caused by drug users scheduled their own session, and limited Smith and other speakers to 5 minutes. With Smith unable to censor participants, she waited until the morning of the event to agree to appear. No wonder. She faced a barrage of criticism, much of it focused on the NDP's inability to get existing drug users into treatment promptly. And when she deferred to police on safety issues, new chief Gene Bowers failed to deliver a single idea of exactly how he will stop an influx of drug addicts - estimated by site supporters as coming to 200 Disraeli from a 30 block radius - from committing even more crime or endangering students and staff at Argyle High School. A mother told Smith, “I have a daughter who attends there. It's not good for the kids already day to day. It's survival… they already have shots against them, and you want to inflict the trauma of a safe consumption site into a community that's already traumatized. What are you doing ??”21.30- A review of some media reports about the town hall helps illustrate the misinformation spread by MSM reporters as well as revealing details they didn't grasp the significance of . Hear what MSM did not report:- a city councillor walked out of the meeting- a split in the indigenous community about enabling drug use is fueling an 'old school' vs 'new school' dispute - reporting "city police wanted to send a message to residents they're working on a plan" exposed how they made no progress in 2 months - Smith's language pivoting to a "made-in-Manitoba" operating plan is deceptive34.00- Which extreme-left activist organization tried to promote 'safe supply' so the government would give illegal drugs to addicts to use at the site? We tell you. Health Minister Ozuma Asagwara and the board of the AHWC can no longer avoid facing the property owners, residents and parents to define their liability if and when a safe consumption site opens. 42.50 Part 3 - In the last episode, TGCTS discovered how lax federal voting rules were when it came to requiring actual proof a person was a citizen of Canada. Listen to the response provided by Elections Canada and how laughable their so-called "preventativemesures" are. The bottom line- it's easy for a foreign national to get a ballot in this federal election.******Easter Sunday in the Winnipeg Sun- a special remembrance of a North Kildonan teacher who was an immigrant success story
Residents of La Ressource, Dennery, and surrounding communities are celebrating the long-awaited reopening of the La Ressource Wellness Centre. Government officials and representatives from the Ministry of Health, Wellness, and Elderly Affairs gathered to mark this milestone, underscoring the administration's commitment to expanding access to quality healthcare services. The newly reopened facility is designed to improve patient care, safety, and accessibility, ensuring that residents receive high-quality healthcare in a modern, well-equipped environment. The centre will offer a wide range of services, including primary care, maternal and child health, wellness programs, and specialized medical services tailored to meet community needs.
After our reports in the Winnipeg Sun about the haphazard public consultation process for the proposed drug consumption site, Episode 5 focuses on a comparison raised by another Sun columnist. Part 1- Our stories have detailed the limited outreach for the consultations by the NDP government and Aboriginal Health and Wellness Centre, and what the proponents have heard from Point Douglas and East Exchange district stakeholders concerned with the potential of even more crime and disorder descending on their neighborhood. The failed narrative of site supporters and the media is that anyone with questions are an enemy of addiction treatment. With the area MLA Bernadette Smith being assigned by Wab Kinew to help fulfill his election promise, residents feel she is in a conflict of interest. Where are city councillors or Mayor Scott Gillingham in this process to represent the community? Absent. Yet the spike of vandalism and break-ins and violence they've suffered was directly connected to former Mayor Brian 'don't arrest the criminals' Bowman, as homeless addicts and illegal riverbank encampments terrorized their neighborhoods 13.10- John Wintrup wrote: "There is a more rigorous and fulsome process outlined by the federal government for siting new cell towers compared to siting new safe consumption sites." Not a lot of people in Winnipeg know anything about the federal telecom tower approval process. It just so happens, Marty Gold is one of them. 17.35 Part 2- A major reason behind concerns about a fair and proper consultation not being conducted is the fact Argyle High School is right across the street. As Wintrup described it: "The public is now considering the compatibility of safe consumption sites within 60 metres of schools — the length of an NHL ice sheet – well within an easy walking distance... Either someone at the provincial government thinks safe consumption sites 200 feet from schools are great, or did not think this through at all." 23.00 - Listen to the audio of Bernadette Smith explaining how 200 Disraeli came to be listed as the address on the application- especially in light of Wintrup's analysis. The Health Canada rules for applications to establish a safe consumption site don't even have a defined radius for notifications of nearby properties, services or political representatives, and what details are to be included. But if this was a communications tower being proposed for 200 Disraeli, it would be vastly different- and better protect the public interest. We have the details of the rules set out by ISED including - a well-defined radius for notification mailings - the information required including why the specific location is best-suited to the proposal, - the stringent timelines for acknowledging and replying to public comments and questions, and for addressing or rectifying concerns - the placement of newspaper ads Another interesting point is that a communications tower is visited perhaps twice a year by one or two technicians for repair, maintenance or installation of a new dish. Almost no traffic results, yet formal municipal concurrence is a requirement. Yet for a site frequented by hundreds of addicts weekly to use drugs- and are allowed to walk out the door- it seems Health Canada has no such sign-off required. Federal rules regulate drug site consultations with less rigour than a cell tower proposed in the middle of farmland. And the NDP knows it. Following months of extensive refurbishment, the Vieux Fort Wellness Centre has reopened, offering residents of Vieux Fort and surrounding communities access to upgraded healthcare services in a safer and improved facility. The Centre resumed operations on January 20, 2025, after its closure in October 2024 due to air quality concerns caused by mold infestation and underlying maintenance issues. Jenny Daniel, Permanent Secretary in the Ministry of Health, Wellness, and Elderly Affairs, highlighted the necessity of these interventions. The Men's Health Clinic focuses on preventive care and chronic disease management, particularly prostate health and overall wellness. Meanwhile, the Colposcopy Clinic provides specialized evaluation and management of cervical health concerns for women. Residents are encouraged to utilize the expanded services available at the Vieux Fort Wellness Centre. Operating hours are Monday to Friday, 8:00 AM to 4:30 PM, and Saturdays, 8:00 AM to 12:30PM.
Roy L Hales/Cortes Currents - A timeline on the REC-REATE – Strathcona Gardens Revitalization Project website traces the origins of this project back to an operational review in 1998. At that time, most of the community was satisfied with the existing facility and the idea of building a new complex did not gain momentum until 2015. A community survey taken between February 2nd and March 2nd that year found that someone from 72% of the Campbell River and 64% of Area D households visited Strathcona Gardens at least once a year. Construction for Phase One, the New Aquatic and Wellness Centre, finally began on September 10, 2024. However the estimated cost of this project had risen to $73 million and the Strathcona Regional District is exploring the idea that Quadra Island and Sayward taxpayers should be contributing. Nothing has been decided, but the SRD has received a stream of letters from hundreds of Quadra Island residents stating they do not use Strathcona Gardens and definitely do not want to pay for it! A little group calling itself the Friends of Area C collected hundreds of names on a petition opposing the suggestion that Quadra taxpayers should be included in Strathcona Garden catchment area. Cortes Currents: How long have you been collecting signatures? “We've been collecting for two and a half weeks. We have well over 600. My last estimate, because I haven't actually collected the form, is that we're closer to 800 already. We're actively canvassing, in some cases door to door. We have signing tables in front of the grocery stores. We have petition sign up locations at a multiple business locations throughout the island,” explained Mike Gall from the Friends of Area C. Cortes Currents: How long will you continue to collect? Mike Gall: “Well, I could set a limit and say 1,000. We think that would be a pretty good representation of the sense of the community. Or a week or so before the next board meeting, which will be February 19th. There's no set timeline for all of this because it's really a non-binding petition.”
After months of comprehensive rehabilitation, the Vieux Fort Wellness Centre officially reopened its doors on Monday, January 20. The upgraded facility now offers enhanced patient comfort, safety, and accessibility, reaffirming its position as a cornerstone of healthcare delivery in the south of the island. The reopening also brings new additions, including a men's clinic every Saturday, aimed at improving healthcare access for male residents. Two nurse practitioners in the province are teaming up to try -- yet again -- to get the government to pay for the care they provide. Doctors in private practice in this province can bill the government directly, but nurse practitioners can't, even though they are authorized to diagnose and treat many illnesses. That's why they have to charge patients for their visits. Travis Sheppard co-founded the Nurse Practitioner Health and Wellness Clinic in Corner Brook. Trent McDonald owns BodyQuest Health and Wellness Centre in St. John's.
In a proactive initiative for Diabetes Awareness Month, the Ti-Rocher Castries Wellness Centre focused its Diabetic and Hypertensive Clinic on prevention and care for Diabetes with the aim of empowering individuals to make the best lifestyle choices to manage their disease. The Ministry of Health, Wellness and Elderly Affairs is hoping to create a holistic approach to Diabetes prevention and care and wants to ensure individuals adopt healthy habits in an effort to reduce the impact of Diabetes. Participants of the activity were granted the opportunity to receive education on nutrition, health screenings, and eye examinations at NO COST.
The Ministry of Health, Wellness, and Elderly Affairs is providing an update on the much-anticipated reopening of the La Ressource Wellness Centre in Dennery, which is now nearing completion. Nine years after a devastating fire severely damaged the facility and halted health services, the wellness center is set to resume operations, restoring a vital healthcare resource to the community.
In a gesture that celebrates the dedication and service of retired nurse Leila Harracksingh, the Ministry of Health, Wellness, and Elderly Affairs recently hosted a renaming ceremony for the Desruisseaux Wellness Centre. This tribute is part of the Ministry's ongoing commitment to recognize health professionals whose work has left an indelible mark on the communities they serve. The newly named Leila Harracksingh Wellness Centre not only commemorates the legacy of a devoted health professional but also stands as an enduring symbol of commitment to quality healthcare for all residents.
Efforts are underway to ensure the swift reopening of the Vieux Fort Wellness Centre, a vital health facility serving the town of Vieux Fort and environs. Health services were temporarily suspended recently to address the compromised central air conditioning (AC) unit which resulted in the buildup of mold at the wellness centre. Officials at the Ministry of Health, Wellness, and Elderly Affairs are working diligently to complete the renovations, aiming to provide residents with improved access to quality healthcare in a safe and comfortable setting. In an interview with Axel Philip, the Project Officer in the Corporate Planning Unit overseeing the rehabilitation work at the Vieux Fort Wellness Centre, an update on the progress and scope of the project was provided. “Since it's a central unit we do not have split units in there which would have been those one ceiling units you would usually find at residential areas. You find that each room and we have a count of probably 14 rooms in here, who has those central units ducting coming through it. So you find that every one of those rooms, I think it's up to 12 of them, those ceilings were compromised and we do have to replace all those gypsy and boards. Right now we are trying to replace them with PVC board to prevent the moisture from remaining in there and keeping it so we're changing them with the PVC board so that we'd be able to get more and better quality in the ceiling.” The Project Officer highlighted the recommendation made to replace the central air conditioning system with individual split units at the wellness centre. This change, he noted would enhance efficiency and ease of maintenance. “Right now they're actually gutting out the central unit from the ceiling because we would not want to leave that central unit in there with all the ducting, because anything can happen. We would have things bringing in those same impurities, those same debris out into the open. So we need to just get everything out so that we can get a better air space inside there.” Philip expressed sincere gratitude to neighboring health facilities, including St. Jude Hospital and the Laborie Wellness Centre, for their invaluable support in accommodating patients during the temporary closure of the Vieux Fort Wellness Centre. Their assistance, he noted, has been crucial in ensuring uninterrupted care for the town of Vieux Fort amid ongoing renovations. “For the space what we have done is since we're doing this by phases, removing the ducting and ensuring it is done, also putting in the split units after we'll be getting a company to actually come in to do some air scrubbing and a deep cleaning will be done in the facility before we can have anyone come in to do any work. We also have Environmental Health Division coming in to do some testing to ensure that the air quality would be definite for us to resume working there.” As the Ministry of Health, Wellness, and Elderly Affairs works around the clock to bring the Vieux Fort Wellness Centre back into operation, residents can look forward to an upgraded facility designed with patient comfort and quality care at its core.
The Ministry of Health, Wellness and Elderly Affairs conveys sincere apologies for the inconvenience caused by the temporary redirection of services from the Castries Wellness Centre. Over the years, the Ministry of Health, Wellness, and Elderly Affairs has remained steadfast in providing high-quality primary health care through our Community Health Nursing Service, supporting individuals, families, and communities in Saint Lucia. Despite our best efforts, the Castries Wellness Centre experienced significant structural and situational deterioration over time, leading to hazardous conditions for both clients and staff. Recognizing the urgent need to safeguard everyone who relies on our services, we made the difficult but necessary decision to redirect services from the Castries Wellness Centre to the La Clery and other nearby Wellness Centres. We understand the disruption this may have caused, and we thank you for your patience and understanding as we work to improve our facilities for a safer, stronger healthcare environment.
In response to the closure of the Vieux Fort Wellness Centre for rehabilitation works, a team from the Environmental Health Department of the Ministry of Health, Wellness, and Elderly Affairs conducted a site visit to assess the situation and plan the restoration of the facility. The visit focused on evaluating the centre's condition and ensuring comprehensive plans are in place for necessary repairs. The Ministry is working diligently to minimize the disruption of services. In the interim, alternative arrangements for healthcare have been made to ensure that residents continue to receive the care they need.
The Vieux Fort Wellness Centre will remain closed for an extended period to facilitate necessary upgrades and maintenance, ensuring improved healthcare services for our community in the future.
The Vieux Fort Wellness Centre will remain closed for an extended period to facilitate necessary upgrades and maintenance, ensuring improved healthcare services for our community in the future.
The Ministry of Health, Wellness, and Elderly Affairs wishes to inform the public of the temporary closure of several wellness centres due to concerns regarding air quality. These closures are necessary to address potential health risks and ensure the wellbeing of both staff and residents. The Ministry is fully committed to taking swift and effective action to resolve the issues and restore the services as soon as possible. Permanent Secretary in the Ministry of Health, Jenny Daniel, emphasized the Ministry's commitment to public safety. “We understand the inconvenience these closures may cause, and we sincerely apologize for any disruptions to the community. However, the health and safety of our residents are paramount, and these actions are necessary to prevent any potential health risks,” stated the Permanent Secretary. https://www.govt.lc/news/temporary-wellness-centre-closures-for-air-quality-remediation

Dame Olivia Newton-John AC DBE (26 September 1948 – 8 August 2022) was a British and Australian singer and actress.[3] She was a four-time Grammy Award winner whose music career included 15 top-ten singles, including 5 number-one singles on the Billboard Hot 100[4] and two number-one albums on the Billboard 200: If You Love Me, Let Me Know (1974) and Have You Never Been Mellow (1975). Eleven of her singles (including two Platinum) and 14 of her albums (including two Platinum and four 2× Platinum) have been certified Gold by the Recording Industry Association of America (RIAA). In 1978, Newton-John starred in the musical film Grease, which was the highest-grossing musical film at the time and whose soundtrack remains one of the world's best-selling albums. It features two major hit duets with co-star John Travolta: "You're the One That I Want"—which is one of the best-selling singles of all time—and "Summer Nights". Her signature solo recordings include the Record of the Year Grammy winner "I Honestly Love You" (1974) and "Physical" (1981)—Billboard's highest-ranking Hot 100 single of the 1980s. Other defining hit singles include "If Not for You" and "Banks of the Ohio" (both 1971), "Let Me Be There" (1973), "If You Love Me (Let Me Know)" (1974), "Have You Never Been Mellow" (1975), "Sam" (1977), "Hopelessly Devoted to You" (1978; also from Grease), "A Little More Love" (1978), "Twist of Fate" (1983) and, from the 1980 film Xanadu, "Magic" and "Xanadu" (with the Electric Light Orchestra). With global sales of more than 100 million records, Newton-John established herself as one of the best-selling music artists of all time, as well as one of the highest-selling female Australian artists.[5] Newton-John, who battled breast cancer three times, was an advocate and sponsor for breast cancer research. In 2012, the Olivia Newton-John Cancer and Wellness Centre opened in her home town of Melbourne.[6] She also was an activist for environmental and animal rights causes.
“Luke, I can't do this.” That's what my fiancée said before she left me, right in the midst of our wedding preparations. Devastated doesn't even begin to describe how I felt. I kept questioning myself, wondering what I did wrong, why I wasn't good enough for her. It was 2012, and for the next six and a half years, I carried the weight of that heartbreak, holding onto anger and resentment. I couldn't make sense of why I had to endure that pain, and I pointed fingers at her for hurting me. But deep down, I knew there had to be a reason behind it all. In 2018, I made a decision to focus on me, stop dating, and stop seeking validation from others. That's when I embarked on a journey of self-discovery, learning to enjoy my own company and embrace being alone. It was during this process that I began to grasp the purpose behind my pain. I realized that heartbreak was a disguised blessing, an opportunity to learn and grow. It taught me the true worth of self-love and the significance of being at peace with myself. I understood that I didn't need someone else to complete me because I was already whole. Looking back, I'm grateful for that heartbreak and the pain it brought because it led me to self-discovery and personal growth. I learned that pain has a purpose, and sometimes, the most challenging experiences are our greatest teachers. In a way, if it weren't for my ex, I wouldn't be where I am now. I wouldn't have had the chance to help myself and many others, which I will continue to do in the future. These days, I'm thrilled about the journey ahead as I continue exploring the power within my mind and the endless possibilities it holds. One of those incredible possibilities was the Power Within live event at Prana House Wellness Centre in Dubai. In this episode, I'm sharing this profound experience with you. Join me and the beautiful souls who inspired me to open up about my personal life, the struggles in relationships, my journey of self-discovery, self-love, the importance of positive environments, authenticity, and being unapologetically ourselves.
