Key Benefits of Energy Upgrades are Cost Savings and Comfort

Electric Ireland's new annual Sustainability Index will track consumer attitudes and perceptions towards energy efficiency technologies. Findings from the inaugural Electric Ireland Sustainability Index show that: Almost three-quarters of solar panel owners cited cost savings as the primary benefit, with an average monthly saving of €91 on energy bills 60% of heat pump users highlighted enhanced home comfort as the key advantage, alongside cited average savings of €77 per month Almost three-quarters of EV charger owners also identified cost savings as the main benefit, reporting average monthly savings of €128 59% of respondents cited lack of money as the main barrier to adopting energy-efficient products Over three-in-four consumers expressed interest in an app to monitor electricity usage, while 65% want the ability to sell electricity back to the grid Energy Upgrades can drive savings Electric Ireland's new 2025 Sustainability Index reveals Irish homeowners who have adopted energy-efficient technologies such as solar panels, heat pumps, and electric vehicle (EV) home chargers are reporting notable financial savings and improved home comfort. However, a significant portion of the population feel unable to invest in these new technologies due to the upfront costs and a lack of clear guidance. Financial and Comfort Benefits Among survey respondents, 13% reported having solar panels already installed, 11% had heat pumps, and 7% had EV chargers. These respondents noted the clear cost benefits of these new technologies - those with solar panels reported perceived savings averaging €91 per month on energy bills. Those with a heat pump said they saved an average of €77 per month, while respondents with an EV charger reported average savings of €128 per month on fuel costs. While financial savings were listed as the leading benefits of these products, some respondents also cited various additional benefits including more comfortable homes (60% of heat pump owners), convenience (46% of heat pump owners), and a lower carbon footprint (48% of EV charger owners). Barriers to Adoption Despite the clear benefits, the Electric Ireland Sustainability Index also shows that willingness to make the switch to more energy-efficient technologies remains low beyond the early adopters. For those who have yet to make any home energy efficiency upgrades, few have active plans to do so: just 22% of respondents are considering solar panels, 18% are considering solar battery systems in the near future, and even fewer plan on installing heat pumps (12%) or EV chargers (12%). The most commonly cited barrier is cost, with nearly six in ten (59%) saying the associated upfront cost was a key deterrent. "What Electric Ireland's new Sustainability Index reveals is that the long-term benefits of more energy efficient technologies are clear - but the upfront costs can be challenging" noted Noeline Gibbons, Head of Residential, Electric Ireland. "In Ireland, the average cost of a solar PV system is between €8,000 and €10,000. With SEAI grants available, most households see a return on investment within four to six years. Many customers say they are saving on average around €90 a month, and many are noticing reductions in their electricity bills straight away. While sustainable products and energy upgrades do require an upfront investment, there are immediate benefits in savings and comfort. However, we are acutely aware that many families and individuals want to start the energy transition but struggle with upfront costs and a lack of information. At Electric Ireland, we are working to ensure all homes can access the right information and guidance on the products they need, and to support people on their sustainability journey so they can make the most sustainable choice that is feasible for them." Interest in Energy Efficiency Beyond cost concerns, others report that the process of accessing grants feels like too much hassle, or that they are unsure if the in...

Saving money on fuel has come out on top in new research looking at the benefits of driving an electric vehicle in Ireland. The survey, which also found a large majority would recommend an EV to others, was carried out by ePower and the Irish Electric Vehicle Association. When respondents were asked about the benefits of driving an EV: 72% of respondents pointed to the savings on fuel costs 61% highlighted reducing emissions and being better for the environment 45% mentioned being able to charge their vehicle at home 37% said they liked having a quieter vehicle 93% would 'definitely' or 'probably' recommend an EV to other people. The survey also asked motorists about the challenges facing them as EV users in Ireland. The results showed: More than half (58%) see the availability of public charging as the biggest challenge 30% of people said price is the biggest challenge of owning an EV 11% cited range concerns as their biggest challenge of owning an EV Among those who had problems with public charging, 40% of respondents said availability is their main problem 23% said issues operating the units are their biggest concern with public charging CEO of ePower John O'Keeffe says the results tally with what he's hearing on the ground: "It's very interesting to see over seven in ten people identify savings on fuel costs as the biggest benefit of EV driving. Set against the rising costs of fossil fuels and the surge in EV purchases so far in 2025, it's clear that people in Ireland are increasingly ready to make the switch away from internal combustion engines, and we're excited about what the future of driving here will hold. "We understand the concerns around public charging, and we're proud to work with ZEVI, which is dedicated to helping people in Ireland make the switch to electric vehicles. We've also made great strides in partnerships with local authorities, shopping centre operators and leisure facilities like racecourses and hotels to help increase the rollout of chargers. The availability of public charging facilities is key to a wider adoption of EV driving, and we're looking forward to playing our part in improving the service in the coming years". #219 How To Unlock CDP A Rating – GHG Verification For Top Carbon Disclosure Ratings

The ISO Show

Play Episode Listen Later Jun 5, 2025 29:02

In recent years there has been a growing need for transparency within sustainable action taken by businesses. This is due to the rampant increase in greenwashing, which only serves to diminish the focus on genuine efforts, in addition to creating a culture of mistrust within stakeholders and consumers. To combat this, certain organisations have taken on the task of encouraging and supporting the accurate public disclosure of environmental data. Such is the case with today's focus, the Carbon Disclosure Project (CDP). In this episode Mel Blackmore discusses what the Carbon Disclosure Project is, what is required to earn an A rating, provides some tips on how to get that A rating and explains the pros and cons with getting involved with the project.    You'll learn ·      What is the Carbon Disclosure Project? ·      What are the requirements to achieve an A rating? ·      Top tips for earning an A rating in the CDP ·      What are the advantages of earning a CDP rating? ·      What are the disadvantages of getting involved with the CDP?   Resources ·      Carbon Disclosure Project ·      Carbonology ·      Contribute to Mel's carbon verification commitment research by taking her Survey   In this episode, we talk about: [02:05] Episode Summary – Mel discusses the Carbon Disclosure project, including what's involved with taking part, how to achieve an A rating and the pros and cons of the project.    [03:00] Why is there a need for the CDP? An increased number of investors and financial institutions, in addition to clients are demanding more than just financial reports. They want to know what a company's environmental footprint is, and at this point, it's time to move on beyond simply making pledges. Ultimately, key stakeholders are looking for a commitment to sustainability and for accessible information to help them understand how an organisation is managing its climate risks and opportunities. This is where CDP comes in. A key component of getting the coveted A rating within CDP involves independent verification of greenhouse gas emissions. [04:45] What is the Carbon Disclosure Project? CDP is a global non-profit that runs the world's leading environmental disclosure system. For over two decades, it has revolutionized how companies, cities, states, and regions report their environmental impacts. They ask thousands of organizations to disclose data on climate change, water security, and deforestation. This data is then used by investors, purchasers, and policymakers to make informed decisions. The CDP questionnaire covers a wide range of topics, from governance and strategy to risk management, targets, and of course, greenhouse gas emissions. Companies receive a score from D- to A based on the completeness of their reporting, their level of awareness of environmental issues, their management of those issues, and ultimately, their leadership in addressing them. [05:40] We want to hear from you: Mel is currently running some research around CDP and the key drivers behind carbon emission verification, and would appreciate your feedback if you have a few minutes to spare. The results are completely anonymous, and it should only take 5 – 10 minutes. You can take the survey here. Thank you in advance to any contributors! [09:10] What is required to achieve an A Rating? – There are a number of key requirements, including:- 1.    Comprehensive Disclosure and Data Quality: This is foundational. You need to provide accurate and complete data across all relevant sections of the CDP questionnaire. This includes detailed information on your Scope 1, Scope 2, and increasingly, your Scope 3 GHG emissions. 2.    Strong Governance and Strategy: CDP looks for clear evidence that environmental issues are integrated into your company's core business strategy and that there's robust board and management oversight of climate-related matters. This means having a defined climate strategy, understanding your climate-related risks and opportunities, and demonstrating how you're incorporating these into your financial planning. 3.    Verified Data: To truly hit that "A" list, your Scope 1 and Scope 2 GHG emissions, and a significant portion of your Scope 3, must be independently verified. This isn't just a suggestion; it's an essential criterion for the leadership level. Independent verification provides crucial assurance to stakeholders that your reported emissions data is accurate, reliable, and trustworthy. It also minimises the risk of “Greenwashing”. 4.    Science-Based Targets and a Robust Climate Transition Plan: CDP is increasingly emphasizing the need for companies to set ambitious, science-based targets for emissions reductions, aligned with a 1.5°C global warming scenario. In addition, having a publicly available, credible climate transition plan that outlines how you will achieve these targets, including specific actions, metrics, and progress tracking mechanisms, is now a must for "A" list companies. 5.    Value Chain Engagement: For many companies, the most significant emissions lie within their supply chain. To achieve an "A" rating, you'll need to demonstrate robust engagement with your suppliers to measure and reduce their emissions, and address environmental impacts across your entire value chain. 6.    Continuous Improvement and Transparency: The "A" rating isn't a one-off achievement. It reflects a commitment to continuous improvement in your environmental performance and a willingness to be transparent about your journey, including challenges and successes. [15:05] Top tips for achieving a CDP A Rating:- Tip 1: Plan Ahead and Start Early. CDP reporting is an annual cycle, and it's complex. Don't wait until the last minute! Start gathering your data, assessing your internal processes, and identifying any gaps well in advance. This includes planning for your verification process. Tip 2: Invest in Robust Data Management Systems. Accurate and comprehensive data collection is paramount. Consider leveraging sustainability software that can help you track, calculate, and manage your GHG emissions data efficiently. This reduces manual errors and streamlines the reporting process. Tip 3: Understand the Verification Process. This is where an accredited verification body, like Carbonology, becomes invaluable. Verification Bodies work to an internationally recognized standard, typically ISO 14064-3, to ensure the accuracy and reliability of your GHG emissions data. The process involves: ·      Defining the scope: What emissions are being verified? ·      Data review: Examining your underlying data, methodologies, and calculations. ·      Site visits (where applicable): Physically verifying operational data. ·      Report generation: Providing an assurance statement on the accuracy of your emissions. Tip 4: Engage with a CDP-Accredited Verification Body. CDP specifically requires third-party verification from an independent external organization that is accredited and competent. Look for bodies with proven experience and accreditation to international standards like ISO 14064. They can guide you through the process, identify areas for improvement, and ensure your data meets the stringent requirements for leadership points. Tip 5: Conduct a Gap Analysis. Before you even begin your disclosure, perform a thorough gap assessment against the latest CDP questionnaire and essential criteria. This will highlight areas where your current disclosures fall short and allow you to address them proactively. Tip 6: Focus on Quality over Quantity. While comprehensive disclosure is important, ensure the quality and accuracy of your data. It's better to provide high-quality, verified data for a focused set of emissions than to report broadly with unverified or unreliable numbers. Tip 7: Train Your Team. Ensure your internal team understands the CDP requirements and best practices for sustainability reporting and data collection. Building internal capacity is essential for maintaining high-quality disclosures year after year. [20:35] The pros of voluntary disclosures: Enhanced Reputation and Brand Value: Disclosing and performing well on platforms like CDP showcases your commitment to environmental responsibility. This can significantly boost your reputation among customers, employees, and the wider public, attracting conscious consumers and talent. Risk Management and Resilience: The disclosure process forces companies to identify and assess their environmental risks – from climate change impacts to resource scarcity. This proactive approach allows for better risk mitigation strategies, building greater business resilience. Cost Savings and Operational Efficiency: The process of measuring and managing environmental impacts often reveals opportunities for greater efficiency, such as reduced energy consumption, waste reduction, and optimized resource use, leading to tangible cost savings. Competitive Advantage: Being a leader in environmental transparency can differentiate your company in the marketplace, especially as sustainability becomes a key consideration for clients and supply chain partners. Competitive Advantage: Being a leader in environmental transparency can differentiate your company in the marketplace, especially as sustainability becomes a key consideration for clients and supply chain partners. Preparation for Future Regulation: Voluntary disclosure puts you ahead of the curve. As environmental regulations become increasingly stringent globally, companies with established reporting mechanisms will be better prepared to meet mandatory requirements. Innovation and Strategic Planning: The disclosure process encourages long-term strategic planning around environmental impact, driving innovation in products, services, and processes. Benchmarking and Peer Learning: CDP provides a framework for measuring and tracking your performance over time and allows you to benchmark yourself against industry peers, identifying areas for improvement and learning from best practices. [14:15] The cons of voluntary disclosures?: Resource Intensive: Comprehensive ESG reporting, especially to the level required for an "A" rating, can be costly and time-consuming, particularly for smaller companies with limited resources. It requires dedicated personnel, data collection, and often external consulting or verification services. Risk of Greenwashing: If disclosure isn't backed by genuine action and verified data, there's a significant risk of "greenwashing" – providing a misleading impression of your sustainability efforts. This can lead to reputational damage, loss of trust, and even legal scrutiny if claims are found to be unsubstantiated. This is precisely why independent verification is so crucial. Lack of Accountability (without verification): Without external verification or assurance, the reliability and accuracy of self-reported data can be questioned, diminishing the value and trustworthiness of the disclosure. This is a major concern for investors who demand the same robustness for non-financial data as they do for financial data. Potential for Negative Public Scrutiny: Once you disclose, your data is public. This means your environmental performance, or lack thereof, can be scrutinized by activists, media, and the public. Companies must be prepared to address any critical feedback. If you'd like any assistance with carbon verification, get in touch with Carbonology, they'd be happy to help! In this episode of Benefits Influencer, host Dennis Carlson interviews Steve Santangelo, Chief Revenue Officer at Garner Health, about their unique approach to healthcare cost management through provider quality assessment. The conversation offers benefits brokers and consultants valuable insights into innovative solutions for addressing rising healthcare costs at a time when employers are seeking more effective alternatives to traditional health plans. ------------------------------------------------- Steve Santangelo brings his decade of carrier-side experience to explain how Garner Health uses data analytics to identify high-quality healthcare providers and incentivize employees to choose them, resulting in both better care and lower costs. The discussion explores: Key Takeaways: Provider Quality Focus: Garner Health analyzes physicians on over 500 metrics using data representing 320 million patients to identify high-performing providers. Their approach connects patients to top doctors within existing networks, finding that higher quality care typically costs less, delivering average savings of 27% per healthcare episode. Market Transformation: We've reached a "tipping point" in healthcare where employers are actively seeking alternatives as costs become unsustainable. CFOs are now directly involved in benefits decisions, and previously "too disruptive" solutions like reference-based pricing are gaining traction as companies face higher healthcare cost increases. Broker Strategy: Successful benefits consultants need to develop multi-year strategies for clients rather than temporary solutions. Vendors should work closely with brokers throughout the client lifecycle, focusing on delivering promised results that help brokers demonstrate value when renewals arrive. The episode also covers insights on price transparency developments, how self-funded employers can leverage concentrated membership for direct contracting, and why brokers remain essential partners in implementing innovative healthcare solutions.

Amid a governmentwide effort to bring federal employees back to the office, a small but powerful biometrics office based in the Department of Homeland Security is now so packed that employees were briefly asked to bring their own chairs to work. An email viewed by FedScoop shows that employees of the Office of Biometric Identity Management (OBIM) were at one point guided to bring their own chairs to work. That advice was quickly rescinded, with the email saying that despite the initial guidance, staff should not bring their own chairs to the office while thanking employees for their patience as they worked through logistical challenges. OBIM, which was established more than a decade ago to manage the biometric information used to make border security decisions, is based at the Transportation Security Administration's offices. Another email, also viewed by FedScoop, highlights the severe space constraints at OBIM. Employees were sent lists of conference rooms that could be used for seating options for work. The email said: “With these space limitations, we encourage staff to please be accommodating and share offices and workspaces to the extent it is possible. Please connect directly with your supervisor and division leadership to discuss creative seating solutions. Please remember that we are all in this together and are working to find viable solutions. Thank you again for your patience as we work through these logistical challenges.” Because there isn't enough office or cubicle space, it's possible that staffers could unintentionally expose information to those that don't need to know it, given their proximity to other people, one former OBIM employee said. As DOGE continues its decimation of the federal workforce, grinds various operations to a halt and touts dubious cost-savings claims, the congressional agency with deep experience rooting out fraud, waste and abuse in government released a litany of recommendations Tuesday that it says could save the public tens of billions of dollars. The Government Accountability Office's 15th annual report on federal programs that have “fragmented, overlapping, or duplicative goals or actions” identified 148 cost-cutting measures across 43 topic areas, delivering a playbook to Congress and federal agencies aimed at lowering costs, improving programs and increasing revenues. Comptroller General Gene Dodaro said in a press release that the GAO's updated report details “new and meaningful opportunities to save federal funds across a wide range of programs.” “By addressing this year's updated list, as well as open recommendations to both agencies and Congress from GAO's past work, the federal government could potentially save an additional” $100 billion, he added. From Storage Tanks to Smart Systems: The Evolution of Buffer Preparation

Cell Culture Dish Podcast

Play Episode Listen Later Apr 30, 2025 19:47

In this podcast, we spoke with Nainesh Shah, Sr. Application Engineer, Asahi Kasei Bioprocess America, about how inline buffer formulation and their MOTIV® system offers a more efficient, scalable, and cost-effective approach to buffer preparation. Traditional methods require large storage spaces, pose risks of leakage, and create inefficiencies that can disrupt production. In contrast, inline buffer formulation enables real-time mixing of concentrated ingredients, eliminating storage constraints and allowing for dynamic adjustments based on demand. With benefits like reduced waste, lower costs, and improved regulatory compliance, this technology is streamlining operations while ensuring precision and adaptability. As the industry shifts toward smarter manufacturing solutions, inline buffer formulation is paving the way for the future of pharmaceutical production. How Inline Buffer Formulation is Changing the Industry Nainesh, who has over 40 years in the pharmaceutical industry and six years at Asahi Kasei, highlights the evolution of buffer preparation. "Traditionally, buffer dilution involved a concentrate formulated in advance, which was then diluted with water to achieve the desired solution.” Modern inline buffer formulation transforms this process by enabling real-time mixing of individual components. "Instead of storing pre-made buffer solutions, MOTIV allows for real-time formulation using individual components. The system precisely combines these ingredients on demand, ensuring accuracy and eliminating storage-related inefficiencies," Shah explains. Enhanced Efficiency, Cost Savings, and Waste Reduction The advantages of MOTIV extend beyond storage and formulation flexibility. "With traditional methods, production can be delayed if pre-made buffers aren't readily available. If a change in concentration or formulation is required, additional time is needed for sourcing and preparation," Shah notes. "With MOTIV, you can use a single concentrated solution to create multiple buffer variants by adjusting the dilution ratio. This eliminates the need for multiple pre-concentrated stocks, reducing storage space, waste and increasing efficiency." Cost efficiency is another crucial factor. "Return on investment (ROI) depends on whether the facility has an existing buffer preparation setup or is installing a fresh system. For existing setups, ROI typically takes around two years due to transition considerations. However, for new installations, ROI can be achieved within 1.5 years," Shah states. He adds that Asahi Kasei provides an easy-to-use ROI calculator to help companies assess their financial benefits. Additionally, inline buffer formulation improves sustainability by minimizing waste and reducing the environmental impact of excess buffer storage. By eliminating the need for large buffer stockpiles, facilities can lower their material costs and optimize resource utilization. Scalability and Customization for Diverse Production Needs One of the standout advantages of the MOTIV inline buffer formulation system is its scalability. "Our smallest system supports up to 1,200 liters per hour with three inlets—one for water and two for concentrates like acid, base, or salt solutions. On the higher end, we can scale up to 5,000 or even 12,000 liters per hour, completely customizable with multiple inlets based on customer requirements," says Shah. This flexibility is particularly valuable for pharmaceutical manufacturers with varying production demands. Facilities producing multiple types of buffers can benefit from the system's adaptability, allowing them to switch formulations with minimal downtime. Instead of maintaining separate storage tanks for different buffer types, inline buffer formulation enables dynamic adjustments based on real-time requirements. Addressing Complex Formulations and Space Constraints MOTIV is particularly beneficial for high-volume buffer requirements and complex formulations.

In this episode of the Data Center Frontier Show podcast, we explore how Packet Power is transforming data center monitoring. As the demand for energy efficiency and operational transparency grows, organizations need solutions that provide real-time insights without adding complexity. Packet Power's wireless, scalable, and secure technology offers an easy, streamlined approach to power and environmental monitoring. Monitoring Made Easy® Traditional monitoring solutions can be difficult to install, configure, and scale. Packet Power's wireless, out-of-band technology removes these hurdles, offering a plug-and-play system that allows organizations to start with a few monitoring nodes and expand as needed. With built-in fleet management, remote diagnostics, and broad compatibility with existing systems, Packet Power helps data centers gain visibility into their power and environmental conditions with minimal effort. Fast, Flexible Deployment Deploying monitoring solutions can be time-consuming and resource-intensive, particularly in large-scale facilities. Many systems require extensive cabling, specialized personnel, and lengthy configuration processes. Packet Power eliminates these roadblocks by offering a vendor-agnostic, rapidly deployable system that works seamlessly with existing infrastructure. Designed and manufactured in the USA, Packet Power products ship in just 2-3 weeks, avoiding the delays often associated with global supply chain issues and ensuring data centers can implement monitoring solutions without unnecessary downtime. Security Built from the Ground Up Security is a critical concern in mission-critical environments. Unlike traditional monitoring solutions that focus primarily on encryption, Packet Power integrates security at every level—from hardware to networking and software. Their read-only architecture ensures that failed hardware won't disrupt power delivery, while out-of-band monitoring prevents exposure to network vulnerabilities. One-way communication protocols and optional physical data isolation further enhance security, ensuring that critical infrastructure remains protected from cyber threats and misconfigurations. Adapting to Industry Changes The data center landscape is rapidly evolving, with increasing demands for efficiency, flexibility, and sustainability. Packet Power's solutions are designed to keep pace with these changes, offering a non-intrusive way to enhance monitoring capabilities without modifying existing infrastructure. Their technology is easily embedded into power and cooling systems, enabling organizations to implement real-time monitoring across a wide range of devices while maintaining operational agility. Why Wireless Wins Traditional wired monitoring solutions often require extensive installation efforts and ongoing maintenance, while common consumer wireless options—such as WiFi, Bluetooth, and Zigbee—are not designed for industrial environments. These protocols pose security risks and struggle in settings with high electromagnetic interference. Packet Power's proprietary wireless system is optimized for reliability in data centers, eliminating IP-based vulnerabilities while supporting secure, large-scale deployments. Cost Savings & Efficiency Monitoring solutions should provide a return on investment, not create additional overhead. Packet Power reduces costs by minimizing IT infrastructure needs, eliminating the expense of network switches, dedicated cabling, and IP address management. Their wireless monitoring approach streamlines deployment, allowing organizations to instantly gain actionable insights into their energy usage and environmental conditions. This improves cost allocation, supports sustainability initiatives, and enhances operational efficiency. Versatile Applications Energy monitoring is crucial across multiple aspects of data center management. Packet Power's solutions support a wide range of applications, including tracking energy use in busways, HVAC systems, generators, switchgear, tenant submeters, and selective circuits. Organizations use their data for billing, cost allocation, efficiency optimization, and failure detection. By providing real-time insights into power consumption and environmental conditions, Packet Power helps data centers maintain reliability, compliance, and cost-effectiveness. The Power of EMX Software & 3D Visualization Collecting data is only part of the equation—turning that data into actionable insights is equally important. Packet Power's EMX Software integrates seamlessly with existing DCIM and BMS platforms, offering real-time alerts, custom reporting, and a brand new 3D Layout Viewer for enhanced visualization. These tools help facility managers and operators make informed decisions, ensuring optimal performance and risk mitigation. Conclusion In an industry where efficiency, security, and flexibility are paramount, Packet Power provides a modern approach to data center monitoring. Their wireless, scalable, and vendor-agnostic solutions simplify installation, reduce costs, and deliver real-time insights into critical infrastructure. As data centers continue to evolve, Packet Power's innovative technology ensures organizations can adapt quickly and operate more effectively without the burden of complex monitoring systems. The episode highlights the fallout of DeepSeek, an open-source large language model that has gained traction for its cost-effectiveness and performance. Microsoft has integrated DeepSeek's R1 model into its Azure AI foundry and GitHub, while businesses like ZoomInfo report substantial cost reductions by switching from OpenAI's models to R1. However, the rise of DeepSeek raises concerns about data privacy, bias, and security, particularly given its reported vulnerabilities and the influence of the Chinese government.Sobel also covers the U.S. Copyright Office's recent clarification regarding AI-generated content, stating that such content can receive copyright protection if a human significantly contributes to or modifies it. This announcement aims to address the legal gray areas surrounding AI and copyright, providing clearer guidelines for IT service providers and content creators. The episode emphasizes the importance of human creativity in copyright law while acknowledging that the subjective nature of "significant human involvement" could still lead to legal disputes. In addition to copyright issues, the episode discusses Super Ops' successful $25 million Series C funding round, which positions the company to enter the direct IT market with an AI-powered endpoint management tool. This move reflects a broader trend in the IT service market toward automation-first solutions, as companies like Super Ops and Syncro seek to enhance operational efficiency. Sobel advises IT leaders to remain cautious about efficiency claims and to evaluate real-world performance before adopting new technologies. Finally, the episode delves into the ethical implications of data usage in AI development, particularly in light of OpenAI's allegations against DeepSeek for potentially misusing its API. Sobel critiques the hypocrisy of OpenAI's outrage over data theft, given its own history of data collection practices. The discussion raises fundamental questions about the future of AI development, the legal frameworks governing it, and the potential for commoditized AI models to benefit both service providers and customers. As the landscape evolves, Sobel encourages listeners to stay informed and engaged with these critical issues. Four things to know today 00:00 Cheap AI Comes at a Price: DeepSeek's Rise Sparks Security and Bias Concerns04:31 AI Can Be Copyrighted—As Long As a Human Puts in the Work, Says U.S. Copyright Office07:32 SuperOps Lands $25M—And a Spot in the Direct IT Market With AI in Tow09:01 AI's Ultimate Irony: OpenAI Furious Over Data Theft… After Doing the Same?   Supported by:  https://www.huntress.com/mspradio/   All our Sponsors: https://businessof.tech/sponsors/ Do you want the show on your podcast app or the written versions of the stories?
