CONTENT WARNING: This episode contains detailed descriptions of cannibalism and murder, so please take care when listening. Woah. What a f***ing book. Our editor said we got a little carried away with this episode, so let me be super clear: we DO NOT condone cannibalism or murder. But we do condone superb writing and unique storylines. Dorothy is a food critic who is also a murderer. She is a psychopath who eats the men she kills. This week, we read A Certain Hunger by Chelsea G. Summers Rebekah Sausmikat, lover of all books, weird and slightly disturbing, joins me today to discuss a book that surprised us in many different ways. In this episode we cover: The difference between sociopaths and psychopaths and which one Dorothy is. Our society's fascination with cannibalism. Is this book a feminist take on murder? Open your book and press play on a podcast episode that will leave you questioning who to trust, especially when it comes to the unreliable, psychopath narrator. On this week's episode, I interview my friends Mack & Tony on a wide array of things. We sat and recorded conversations inside a van; a van who's interior was built from scratch to create a home within the 70 sq. ft walls it provided. They sold all of their belongings, packed their lives and their dog Dixie, and hit the road for a year and a half of full van life adventures. Mack and Tony not only share advice on purchasing your own van, and building it from scratch (which they lovingly named Chicken Legs), but also share relationship advice, funny stories from their travels, and Kardashian gossip. These conversations were fueled with copious amounts of Cab Sav and Mary Jane, and went into the wee hours of the night. So, for timesake and to pair with our ever so shrinking attention spans, we split this episode into 2 parts. You can listen and laugh with part one here, and part two will drop next Thursday. Enjoy the episode xoIf you'd like to follow along with our guests, you can find them on instagram here: @mackfloyd_ and @toneloc35 are their personal accounts, and their van account is @chickenlegs_thevan.Shop Raw & Rebellious: https://www.rawrebellious.com/Raw & Rebellious Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/raw_rebellious/Raw & Rebellious TikTok: https://www.tiktok.com/@raw_rebellious?lang=enRaw Intentions Podcast Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/rawintentionspodcast/

Australia is renowned for it's variety of climate and landscapes. And along with this comes the ability to produce striking and wines of character. One particular wine that has an extremely good reputation in Australia is Cab Sav. It does extremely well in the coastal region of Margs. We have Jillian, a winemaker from the United States who travels to Australia to help in the process. So, who better to talk to us about the strange phenomenon of Australian Wine slang? And at the same time you might be able to learn a thing or two about wine. Do you like wine? What about Australian wine? What do you think is a character of Australian wine? And what other wine related slang can you find in this episode?

He is president of the Stellenbosch Cabernet Collective and so has kindly agreed to talk us through the different subregions of Stellenbosch, explaining how the different terroirs and microclimates affect Cab Sav, whilst I taste several Cabernet Sauvignons from a few other producers in the area. It is quite hard to skip ahead in this episode as there is just so much information about regions, climates, history, external influences and lots of wineries for you to get to know. Hi there! We saved you a spot in the smoke circle! Puff, puff, pass y'all! Otherwise, KT has some "Cab Sav" for you if you're interested. This week's episode covers a wide span of history starting with Laurel's story of more recent times about the Feather Heist of a scientifically and historically priceless collection of rare birds from the British Natural History Museum. It is WILD so buckle in for the ride. I mean, did you know there is basically a fly fishing underground?! What? After our great heist adventure, KT takes us further back in the history books and tells us about the great Frederick Douglass, who inspired Black History Month. We also get to meet the amazing women in his life that helped him achieve all the great things he accomplished. *~*~*~*~*~*~ Apologies for some of the audio this week. Can you believe we are wrapping up our first season? We are so proud and excited to reflect on our first year of podcasting, local summer nights, and this friggin pandemic. We've been aged in the barrels for a few years, so listen up lil San Deezies! This week's creature comforts are classic combos of coffee and cannabis, yum. Kelli ordered True Meds delivery of Summer Nights, a hyphy sativa blend that is perfect for December. If you are from a coastal town, then you know that the true locals summer is in, well, the winter! San Diego has been showing off glorious weather and we are loving the locals only vibes. Goodbye crowds, we never missed you. Adrianna listens intently to Kelli's story of being 30, seasoned, and wine boosh. White girl wasted and frivolously spending too much money on a Cab Sav, hear about a magical trip to the mountains! It'll energize you like CAH-CAINE, err, Cacao does on a bright sunny Saturday. This week's small business is close to our heart, as Kelli has been eating from Sipz Vegetarian Restaurant for years! We love @sipzcafe and I seriously order garlic fries, a Thai iced tea and summer rolls every week. EVERY WEEK. Would you buy a coffee table book of Poshmark Idiots? Well look out and watch your Amazon carts, because we really have something good here. Thanks for an amazing season everyone, and get ready for a really exciting SEASON 2 with some fantastic new features, guests, and *cough cough* weeeeeeeeeee-d!
On this week's episode hosts Cassie and Daniel talk about Cassie and Matt's last brunch in Denver before they move to Seattle. Daniel has a great week in D.C. post presidential election; going to wineries and starting his Christmas decorating. Daniel cracks into a Cab Sav. while Cassie enjoys a white claw! Cassie heads to the keystone state for the twisty case of Demetrius Coleman. Daniel stays close to home in Virginia for the case of Christopher Gattis. This episode I am joined by Master of Wine, Meg Brodtmann. Meg recently joined the team at Rob Dolan Wines, a lovely Winery and Cellar Door in South Warrandyte part of Victoria's Yarra Valley wine region. Founded by local legend Rob Dolan after 25 years of making wine for some of Australia's most iconic wineries, this is the only winery which I have joined the wine club of, ever! Meg actually started her winemaking journey in Australia with Rob before heading overseas and eventually ending up in beautiful Chile. She became the first Australian woman to pass the Master of Wine exam in 2002 and came back to Oz in 2008 working for wineries and sharing her knowledge and love of wine through education and is now the Education and Global Outreach human for Rob Dolan Wines! The pairings: 2020 Rose - Fresh and youthful this is a pale strawberry coloured wine with a cherry, red currant and rose petals aroma and a palate of red currant that is crisp and textural with a dry and savoury finish. The other side of the sky by Australian writer Amie Kaufman and American writer Meagan Spooner There is a sinking city in the sky and a dying surface on the planet. A prince and the living god of her people whose magic has yet to reveal itself. A beautiful blend of technology and magic this book is super fresh and youthful having only just been published in September and is a Young Adult book. The world-building is so vivid and the characters are lively and fun. There's loads going on and it ends on a bit of a cliffhanger. It is a really fun read, with great characters and an interesting story which you'll get through far too quickly and you'll want more where it came from … just like this Rose! 2017 Arneis - pale straw, floral, crisp and textural this is a lean wine, smooth and creamy, nicknamed the 'little rascal'. Silk by Alessandro Baricco A pandemic is wiping out silkworms in France so a pilgrimage to Japan is undertaken and a forbidden love is uncovered. The book I am going to pair with the Arneis is a lot older than the last one I mentioned … it was published in Italy in 1996 and translated into English in 1997 and again in 2006. This is a slim book, more of a novella even, written by an Italian and set in France and Japan … but don't be fooled into thinking this small, romantic sounding tale is anything less than stunning! It has those crisp, textural and ripe elements of the Arneis and for such a small book there is so much to it, layers of beauty which will linger long after you finish reading it. It might be tough to find these days but it's well worth the effort! 2017 Cab Sav - A deep crimson purple wine full of blackcurrant, forest fruits, bay leaf and cedar with juicy dark fruits, mocha this is a balanced and complex wine with fine tannins. The forgotten garden by Kate Morton Dark fairytales, a foundling, a secret garden and a love denied. This is the first Kate Morton book I read, and although I like all of her books, this is still my favourite. It is beautifully written, with three generations of women telling their story. Layered, delightful and seductive, this is an atmospheric and compulsively readable story of the past, secrets, family and memory, a book to savour, with a hint of darkness and perfect to read whilst sipping at this delicious Cab Sav!

After we recorded Episode 33 (Privacy Within A Marriage) with Brian and Jenn Murphy, we started chatting about the HBO show Westworld. Brian posed the question, "If you could go to Westworld, would you and what would you do?" The conversation was great and so we decided to turn the mics back on and record another. Enjoy this one, it's fantastic.Brian has his own podcast called "How Writers Write", a podcast where he interviews big-time authors with the goal of helping aspiring writers develop great works of art. Listen to his podcast here!We drank a very special wine this week, a 2014 Cabernet Sauvignon from Corrison Winery. The last time we drank this wine, we were with the Murphy's at Cathy Corrison's vineyard in Napa, CA in February 2018 (we bought this bottle at that time and have been saving it). What an amazing bottle, and an amazing vineyard. It's one of the best Cab Sav's we've ever had. You can find it here, for $110!Love Happily Opinionated? Share us with a friend. This week, we sat down with some dear friends of ours, Brian and Jenn Murphy, to discuss how much your spouse needs to know about you, specifically as it relates to tracking your whereabouts via your phone (like the app Find My Friends). Nick F isn't usually a fan of Cab Sav but this one has changed his mind. The Nicks chat with Phil Cross and find out why.
Like a parrot on the verandah, footy came, delighted us, and left. We had something to hold onto in this (can I say unprecedented? Such a cliche. I'm gonna say unprecedented) unprecedented moment. Something to look forward to, ie; a premiership cup coloured sunset orange. And now we are left alone and grumpy. But you are not left without Never Surrender by The Squinters in this time of trial. The Squinters are old hands at social distancing, having practiced extreme, multi-continent podcast distancing since R12 last year (a different time ). Coco in Pennsylvanian Quarantine, Sparrow from a deserted Northern Beach, Dr Nangs from the reserve trenches a goodly distance behind the frontline and Needles the Rennaissance Man from a seat at the action in Canberra found a window between impressive, confidence-building Giants victory and season (mayaswellbe) cancellation to bring you the first episode of the only Giants AFL fan podcast. And despite the terrible sound quality, poor sound mixing and disgusting internet connection, the content is A1 like Petrol and the Cab Sav. This might be the only pod you get for months, so make the most of it. If you want to know that everything is going to be fine and that footy will be played for more than two weeks if at all and Covid-19 will go away soon...this is not your listening pleasure. But if you want to know how the AFL will deal with the issue care of the Squinters AFL Rescue Committee, what team Growler has picked for Round 1 if it is played, and want to listen to a podcast still full of hope against all evidence about the flag-winning season coming up before it is all cancelled, Ready-GO because we Never Surrender. Of course, if every Giants fan sent us an email we'd have gigabytes of content to discuss and pods to produce. We'll leave that thought there and you can hit us here: neversurrenderpod@gmail.com. This week we are talking about Bulgaria a country in Southeast Europe. Wine Recommendations - Big thank you to Grapes & Barley Imports for providing the wines for this episode. All but one of these wines are from the Thracian Valley. Bulgariana Rose 2017 - priced around $13. This rose wine is made with 100% Cabernet Sauvignon grapes Aromas of strawberries, raspberries, watermelon and minerality Its dry with medium acidity with flavors similar to aromas - lots of berry flavors Light in aromas and flavors but everything I want in a rose - fruity, crisp, really refreshing Rough Day Chardonnay 2016 - priced around $9. This is an unoaked style of Chardonnay Aromas of tropical fruits like melon and apricots as well as some lemon aromas It’s dry with a light to medium body, medium plus acidity with flavors similar to aromas - mostly tropical fruits This wine is a light crisp unoaked chardonnay that perfect for summer Bulgariana Pinot Noir 2014 - priced $15. The grapes for this wine come from a subregion of the Danube Plain in North-east Bulgaria Aromas of cherry flavored cigars, salmai, and coffee Its dry with medium body, medium plus acidity, light tannins with flavors of cherries, tobacco, coffee and dirt This pinot is a more fuller body style and less fruit than Pinots from other places. Not your delicate Pinot Noir like Burgundy or Willamette Valley - this Pinot has some teeth Bulgariana Gamza 2016 - priced around $12. Made from the Gamza grape - which is a dark skinned variety used to make red wine found in Central Europe and the Balkan area. It’s also known as Kadarka Aromas of dusty earth, spice with a hint of black cherries and black plum It’s dry with medium acidity and tannins, full body and flavors similar to aromas - dark fruits, spices and dusty earth Very deep full wine that is not very fruity but a great texture to the wine with smooth tannins Rough Day Cabernet Sauvignon 2016 - priced around $10. Aromas of black cherries, blueberries, dusty earth and spice This wine is dry with medium acidity and tannins, full body and flavors of earth and dark fruits This wine is all about the fruit - its very juicy, really approachable wine with smooth, satin like tannins Winemaker’s Selection Un Double Cabernet Sauvignon & Syrah 2012 This is a part of Walmart’s private label program 50% of each Cab Sav and Syrah Aromas of dark fruits like black cherries and black plum as well as pepper It’s a dry, full bodied wine with medium acidity and tannins with flavors similar to aromas - dark fruits and spice This wine is very juicy, ripe, lush wine that is big and bold We pair this wine with an aged cheese and it really shined with some fatty food Check out the website for Grapes & Barley Imports to learn more about where you can purchase these wines. This week we are talking about Super Tuscan wine. Super Tuscans come from as the name suggests, the Tuscany region of Italy which is located in central Italy. “Super Tuscan” is a term used to describe red wines from Tuscany that may include the use of non-indigenous grapes, particularly Merlot, Cabernet Sauvignon and Syrah. Wine Recommendations Tenuta Monteti Caburnio 2010 - priced around $21. 55 % Cabernet Sauvignon, 20% Alicante Bouschet, 15 % Merlot, 5 % Cabernet Franc, 5 % Petit Verdot Nose: Dark fruit - blackberries, black currant, black plums, floral (like lavender and rose) Dry, full body, medium plus acidity and smooth, soft medium level tannins Flavors: dark fruit, vanilla, touch of rose and lavender You can tell this wine has spent some time in oak and in the bottle - soft edges but still quite a bit of acidity so probably would be great with even more age We were not expecting the floral component - we feel this is a bit of French influence showing. This wine is complex and structured, can stand up to food or good for sipping on its own Toccata Classico 2015 - priced around $29. This wine was given to us as a sample The grapes in this blend are 50% Sangiovese, 30% Cab Sav, 5% Merlot, 5% Freisa, 5% Petit Verdot and 5% Cab Franc Nose: sweet & smokey BBQ ribs, ripe black cherries and blackberries, vanilla Dry, full body, medium tannins, medium plus acidity Flavors similar to aromas, plus black plum This is an intense wine that needs food with big flavors and/or a bit of fat. Most people will probably want food with it. This one could also age a bit longer, especially if you want to accentuate those umami flavors. Sources Wikipedia Wine Folly Vinepair Oxford Guide to Wine

Daniel tells Cassie about his difficulty getting his reserved table in a completely empty restaurant. In honor of national Cabrenet Day on August 30th the two drink a Cab Sav and a Cab Franc. Hey guys - welcome to this weeks episode of Ballots and Bottles. The ladies are talking about themselves duh. Ellen is drinking a weird half bottle of sangria from a can? But Lexi is drinking a Cab Sav from the brand Lesse Fitch - seeing how she drank a glass before the podcast started, safe to say she liked it. Ellen and Lexi give the top ten headlines, with some vague details (Still don't get the Chris Brown story)They then move into the Iran Nuclear Deal, how all the American's released from North Korea were all named Kim (SUSPECT) and then onto the Met Gala. Ellen has some strong words for Snowflakes, and Lexi has some strong words about Rudy. Follow us on twitter @BallotsBottles @LexiDussi @EllenFlem Instagram @BallotsandBottles Facebook @ Ballots and Bottles And throw a review - it will take two seconds and they will love you forever
It’s the second of our mini episodes to tide our listeners over through the summer (and yes, we’re titling these purely to torment Raven). As you may have guessed, we’re back in Anchorhead, where it really is a miracle we haven’t yet died a slow, painful death. But don’t worry… Continue reading
KellyAnn Schiavo is a personal branding guru - and that's what we're calling her - she didn't give herself that label. So why am I calling her a guru - well I think it's rather fab when a Personal Branding specialist manages to hook a prestigious brand like Bentley into their stable! In this hour long show we cover... "The tricky business of melding your online and offline branding"...plus "Are you making these 3 critical errors in your personal branding"? You're sure to find at least a couple of actions you can take away and implement today - so grab a pen, paper and coffee (or maybe a glass of Cab Sav!) and settle down for an information packed episode.
