Sent us text! We would love to hear from you!Every man gets handed the same invisible rulebook at some point: don't talk about your feelings, walk off the pain, say “I'm fine” when you're anything but. Episode 252 is about what happens when men finally put that rulebook down — and why therapy might be the most underrated power move a man can make. Commander Drew and Dr. Paul break down what's really going on behind the silence: anxiety, depression, stress, and trauma quietly stacking up in men of every background while they keep insisting they've got it handled. The warning signs don't always look like a breakdown — they look like disappearing from friends, snapping over nothing, or being physically present but mentally checked out. The episode reframes what therapy actually is — not a couch and a tissue box, but a structured place to get honest, get tools, and stop white-knuckling it alone. Therapy doesn't make someone the hero of your story. It just hands you a better playbook. Good News goes deep into the ocean — literally. Scientists discovered 1,121 new marine species in a single year, including a ghost shark older than the dinosaurs and a worm living inside what researchers call a glass castle. With 86% of life on Earth still unidentified, the message is clear: we are nowhere near done exploring. Jet Jolt puts the miracle of flight in perspective — roughly 80% of the world's population has never been on an airplane. Not once. For those who fly regularly, it's a reminder that what feels routine is actually extraordinary. The Frequent Flow-Line brings a letter from Brian in Manchester, England, who watches the show every week with his children and asks how Drew and Paul decided to join the Navy and become airline pilots. Their answers go well beyond career choices — they're about purpose, service, and what it means to keep looking up. The Wingmen PSA covers EFIL Fact #6: anger is really fear. Stress is the number one killer — and the prescription is simple. Sit down, shut up, and do nothing for 24 hours. The Gouge with Ace takes on a question every young person needs to hear answered honestly: what's the real gouge on success that nobody tells you? The Wingman Story closes the show with Charlie O. and Tyler — a classroom, a partner practice assignment, and one athlete who walks past the cool crowd to sit with the kid everyone else is waiting to see fail. It's a story about guarding someone's dignity — and discovering that's its own kind of greatness.
The Philadelphia Flyers had one hell of a season. Now, the fans and front office are shifting towards what this upcoming offseason may look like for this team and organization. This week, Charlie O'Connor from PHLY Sports joined us for deep dive into the Flyers organization, ongoing storylines, and what the future of this offseason will look like. But first, Jeff and Len talked about the latest head coach firing in the Philly sports world. Bradley Carnell is now out as the Philadelphia Union head coach. (Approx. 3:05)From there, they dove into the current state of the Phillies as Cristopher Sanchez is dominating from the mound, and Trea Turner has been a bit of a disappointment. (Approx. 8:10)The guys then got into the U.S. World Cup roster and what expectations might be for the team as the World Cup is right around the corner. (Approx. 15:35)Josh Shuster from PhiladelphiaSoccerNow.com then joined the show for a discussion about the Union's season and how poorly this team and organization are operating. (Approx. 25:20)What they threw down on the Table this week was a great and in-depth discussion with Charlie O'Connor from PHLY Sports about the Flyers upcoming offseason. First, Jeff and Charlie reflected on this past season of ups and downs - mainly ups. How the fan base really be viewing Matvei Michkov, and how does this discourse actually affect the team? What might the draft look like, and can Danny Briere actually acquire that top-star talent? All of this and much more this week on the Table! In this episode of FOMO Sapiens, Patrick McGinnis sits down with Charlie O'Donnell, founder of Brooklyn Bridge Ventures and author of Founder Unfriendly: What Investors Won't Tell You About Getting Funded, for one of the most practical and honest conversations about venture capital you're likely to hear. Charlie has spent more than two decades inside the New York startup ecosystem, starting as the first analyst at Union Square Ventures, helping open First Round Capital's NYC office, and going on to invest in over 100 companies through Brooklyn Bridge Ventures, the first venture fund based in Brooklyn. In this conversation, he dismantles some of the most persistent myths about fundraising: what "interested" actually means from a VC, why rejection is data and not a verdict, how to time-bind a process to create real urgency, and how to shape the conversations investors have after you leave the room. If you've ever wondered why a seemingly weaker startup got funded while yours didn't, this episode has the answer. Learn more about your ad choices. Visit megaphone.fm/adchoices
Episode 425 of The VentureFizz Podcast features Charlie O'Donnell, Founder of Brooklyn Bridge Ventures and now, a published author. Charlie is a staple of the NYC startup scene and someone who has had a significant influence in helping to build the ecosystem to what it is today. I first met Charlie back in 2010 at First Round Capital's offices in NYC. At the time, I was helping out some of the city's early high-flyers, like Birchbox. As you'll see if you're watching the video – or hear in this interview, I actually still have his business card from that meeting. 2010 was still the early innings for New York tech, and our conversation is a fun trip down memory lane. Charlie had his hands in some of the most important building-block companies of that era, including Foursquare, GroupMe, and Etsy. We also dive into the story of his investment in Backupify, a Boston startup founded by Rob May that was eventually acquired by Datto. After his time at First Round, Charlie went on to launch Brooklyn Bridge Ventures, becoming the first VC to plant a flag in Brooklyn. He is now out with a new book titled Founder Unfriendly: A No-Nonsense Guide to How Investment Decisions Actually Get Made. It's an honest look at what actually happens after you leave a pitch meeting. We celebrate the second edition of the European Folk Day, which takes place around September 23 and brings together activities of all kinds around the roots music made in Europe, as this radio broadcast edition. We take the opportunity to put together a program composed almost entirely of premieres that bring us sounds from the Ukrainian Cossacks, Nordic, Occitan, Celtic, as well as roots from outside Europe (Arab, Ethiopian, Judeo-Yemeni, Brazilian…), brought to us by musicians settled on the continent. And also echoes of Irish emigrants in 19th century Argentina. – Kozak Siromakha & Gordiy Starukh – Trojan – Vytynanka – Víík – Heiemo og nykkjen – Sagt – D’en Haut – L’ors Dominique – D’en Haut – Wishamalii – Wallathi wallaka qalbi – Al-bahr – El Khat – Intissar – Mute – Claire Luzi – Ce corta jaca – Ce corta-jaca – Open the Door for Three – The mermaid of Mullaghmore – A prosperous gale – Savourna Stevenson + Steve Kettley – Cutting the chord – Wine of life – Charlie O’Brien – Donovan’s mount – The trackless wild: Irish song of the Pampa & farther afar – John MacLellan – Clan Campbell’s gathering (Cruinneachadh Sil Diarmaid) – The very air: Pibroch ca. 1964 📸 Wishamalii (Anna Maria Viksten)

Send us a Text Message. There was some slight disappointment in the team's last outing as Cavalry FC came to town and played the role of party poopers to perfection. The 2-1 defeat was a competitive battle, and despite The Nine Stripes laying siege to the Cavs goal for the final twenty minutes, they couldn't find that elusive equalizer. Still, Head Coach Benjamín Mora remained defiant in the aftermath of the game, telling reporters that one result would not define the recent successes. “Every child is an artist. The problem is how to remain an artist once we grow up.” Pablo Picasso Whether this is a proven fact or not is irrelevant. What matters is that there is an innate connection between children and creativity in all forms. Whether it's through paint, imagination, or creative play in a universe far, far away, there is an inner child in each of us that could help our creative juices and inspire in new ways. “Treat your inner child well and make sure you give it plenty of things to keep its imagination growing” -Charlie O'Shields Today's guest, Charlie O'Shields is a Creative Director by day with side hobbies and projects that absolutely light up the world. He started a blog and a 2000-day art journey in 2015 that became the Doodlewash blog and so much more. He's authored multiple books helping people connect to their inner child and “create like a kid again.” Charlie also founded Watercolor month which is a nonprofit 31-day challenge and community dedicated to watercolor painting. In addition to being all around amazing, Charlie shares: How to show up, practice, and share your work Encouraging people to get creative How Happy Hour turned into much more than art The inspiration for World Watercolor Month in July “It's just a matter of doing creative things on a regular basis. And it's not just doing them, it's a practice, everything in life is a practice. - Charlie O'Shields Even if art is your business and something you take seriously, Charlie echoes a great reminder that adding fun into your work and a bit of joy goes a long way for the people that see it and feel it in your art. Remember to give your inner child the space it needs to play, stay creative, and keep imagining.
