Welcome to Day 2089 of  Wisdom-Trek, and thank you for joining me. This is Guthrie Chamberlain, Your Guide to Wisdom The Book of Proverbs – Chapter 18 – Daily Wisdom Wisdom-Trek Podcast Script - Day 2089 Welcome to Wisdom-Trek with Gramps! I am Guthrie Chamberlain, and we are on Day 2089 of our Trek. Establishing good habits is imperative for living a Godly life and one habit I have practiced nearly every day for the past 45+ years of my adult life is to read the chapter in the book of Proverbs that corresponds to the day of the month. This single habit has been the catalyst for gaining wisdom and creating a living legacy. Adopting this habit can do the same for your life. The realization that God's Wisdom is the only true wisdom drives me to seek God's wisdom each day, and there is no better way to do this than to meditate on God's book of Wisdom. Wisdom is the final frontier in gaining true knowledge. So we are on a daily trek to create a legacy of wisdom, to seek out discernment and insights, and to boldly grow where few have chosen to grow before. Today I will read Proverbs 18. The Book of Proverbs - Chapter 18 18 Unfriendly people care only about themselves; they lash out at common sense. 2 Fools have no interest in understanding; they only want to air their own opinions. 3 Doing wrong leads to disgrace, and scandalous behavior brings contempt. 4 Wise words are like deep waters; wisdom flows from the wise like a bubbling brook. 5 It is not right to acquit the guilty or deny justice to the innocent. 6 Fools' words get them into constant quarrels; they are asking for a beating. 7 The mouths of fools are their ruin; they trap themselves with their lips. 8 Rumors are dainty morsels that sink deep into one's heart. 9 A lazy person is as bad as someone who destroys things. 10 The name of the Lord is a strong fortress; the godly run to him and are safe. 11 The rich think of their wealth as a strong defense; they imagine it to be a high wall of safety. 12 Haughtiness goes before destruction; humility precedes honor. 13 Spouting off before listening to the facts is both shameful and foolish. 14 The human spirit can endure a sick body, but who can bear a crushed spirit? 15 Intelligent people are always ready to learn. Their ears are open for knowledge. 16 Giving a gift can open doors; it gives access to important people! 17 The first to speak in court sounds right— until the cross-examination begins. 18 Flipping a...

Hour 2: Ten wins for the Jets should get them into the playoffs. Boomer explains why Jets fans should root for the Patriots. The Jets now go on the road to Minnesota and Buffalo. There was a lot of confusion just before kickoff as to who was starting for the Bears yesterday. Gio said it mattered because of gambling. The lines changed. Boomer loves when teams go for two to win a game instead of kicking to tie. Lamar Jackson went back at criticism from a normal dude on Twitter, including the line ‘eat d'. Jerry returns for an update and starts with the Jets beating the Bears and Mike White playing ‘real NY Jets football' according to Elijah Moore. Mike White called it ‘a complete team win'. The Eagles ran a lot and beat the Packers on SNF. Aaron Rodgers left with a rib injury. The Raiders beat Seattle in OT on an 86 yard run. The Jags went for 2 and the win to beat the Ravens. Boomer wonders if you would go in the pool at Jaguar games. In the final segment of the hour, we talked about the strange story of OBJ getting kicked off an airplane.

He's attemting to paddle the entire length of Baja's 1000-mile coastline of the Sea of Cortez on a paddle board, solo. Unfriendly winds have hindered his progress after completing nearly 400-miles thus far from San Felipe in northern Baja. As such, he's hitting the pause button to reconsider his options, rest, and reevaluate. He reached out to me to talk strategy after being hold up in the mining town of Santa Rosalia where I began my own paddle board expedition 5 years ago. Enjoy the show.

A pair of supermassive black holes in the heart of a distant galaxy may be headed for an unfriendly merger. We could see them ram together in as little as three years, producing some big fireworks. The black holes have a combined mass of roughly 200 million times the mass of the Sun. They're in a galaxy that's about a billion light-years from Earth. The galaxy is in the constellation Boötes the herdsman, which is dropping from view in the western sky at sunset. Astronomers have kept an eye on the galaxy for a few years. Space telescopes found that X-rays from the galaxy's heart go through an up-and-down cycle. Over a couple of years, the length of that cycle dropped from about a year to just three months. A team of researchers said the peaks in the cycle could be produced as the black holes approach each other. As they do so, they kick out blobs of hot gas from the disks that encircle the black holes. The change in the timing of those peaks could mean that the black holes are pulling closer together. At the rate they're approaching each other, they could merge in just three years. That would produce a huge outburst of X-rays and other forms of energy. The merger also would produce an outburst of gravitational waves, which are faint ripples in space-time. No current instruments can detect the wavelengths the merger would produce, though, so they'll remain unobserved. Tomorrow: Lining up some close calls. Welcome to The Nonlinear Library, where we use Text-to-Speech software to convert the best writing from the Rationalist and EA communities into audio. This is: My local EA group has an unfriendly and impersonal vibe (via r/EffectiveAltruism), published by Tyner on July 15, 2022 on The Effective Altruism Forum. I am not the original poster; cross-posting because I thought it could be useful feedback. "Hello, this is a bit of a rant about my personal experience with my local EA group. I've been showing up to my local EA group for about a year because the core principles resonate with me (effectiveness, the intrinsic value of life, etc.), but I haven't been able to build trust with these folks. Don't get me wrong, there are friendly members of course. However, I've found the "core" members to be quite unfriendly. They all know each other, and I've found it very difficult to feel part of their group. I find that a lot of what I say is met with dismissiveness and elitist attitudes. It is really exhausting when every conversation quickly becomes an impersonal philosophical debate about morality. Sometimes when I talk to these folks I start doubting myself, asking questions like "Why are they so hostile towards me? Is there something wrong with me? Am I dumb? Am I unfriendly? Am I a bad person?" However, there is plenty of evidence from other aspects of my life demonstrating that I'm a reasonable person. I'm afraid that showing up to local EA meetups is ruining my perceptions towards effectiveness and altruism. It just isn't an enjoyable vibe. I took a friend with me to the meetup once and following the meetup he quite earnestly said "I felt incredibly unwelcomed." I went to EAG and that was great. I met some amazing people who I've kept in touch with and it showed me that the wider EA community isn't as hostile as the local group in my city. Does anyone else feel this unfriendly vibe with their local group(s)? Are some local groups doing more damage to altruism than good?" Thanks for listening. In this episode, my guest Dr. Ron Johnson discusses the topic "Practicing a Customer Service Mentality in an Unfriendly World." Customer relations is the company-wide process of nurturing positive relationships with customers. Every action taken by every person in the business or ministry contributes to or detracts from a positive customer relationship. Dr. Johnson is the author of the book Customer Service and the Imitation of Christ. Millions of people all over the world work in customer service call centers, often in high-pressure situations. With over 22 years' experience working in call centers, Dr. Johnson learned a number of things about serving Christ in this environment. He has learned how to stay in touch with God while serving others; how to have compassion for those he serves, even when they're angry; how to deal with deadlines and quotas that may not be realistic; how to deal with language barriers; how to rest while working; and how to view his job as part of the larger story of God's activity in all of life. Most of all, he has learned that customer service is an unconventional ministry that's sorely needed in our world.

“The beauty of good leadership is having the ability of having a wonderful platform to impact someone that you may never know how so.“ Ruben Minor Our guest today is Ruben Minor, who is the president of RAM Consulting Group, an organization that focuses on speaking training and coaching individuals and groups regarding leadership, team dynamics, relationship building, diversity, equity and inclusion, fundamental business philosophies, and business and personal branding. Reuben is a leader with a rich and resourceful network of professionals across the business spectrum, ranging from influential political figures to educational leaders and entrepreneurs.  Ruben leverages his network to make more meaningful connections for his clients and business partners that evolved into lasting mutual beneficial relationships. Ruben also served this country for 15 years in the US Navy as a supply Corp officer, is a John Maxwell certified professional speaker, trainer and coach and intimately engaged in the community, serving as president of the Council for the village of Galena. Reuben enjoys spending time with family, history movies and hiking and as a side note, is a professional speaker.  Emotional intelligence is the ability to process information that has been received. The information goes through a filter system in your mind, which helps you to dissect what's being said, what the intention is behind it, so that your response to what you are processing will be emotionally appropriate. Emotional intelligence, like sales, is either you naturally have it and you're good at it, or you don't have it and therefore becomes a difficult process for you to gain that.  It takes a special savvy person to be sensitive and to know how to respond, and not hurt someone. Psychological safety entails asking how one can create an environment where a person feels safe enough to say and express what is on their mind. Naturally, everybody wants to be heard, and when you have the ability to exercise psychological safety, then that's the foundation of building great relationships. Corporations have learned a lot post COVID, as employees have realized that they do not have to put up with toxic work environments. Unfriendly cultures have been in place for decades, and is therefore not expected to change overnight. It's going to be a constant, intentional effort by those in leadership, and making sure that they're keeping in step with what the culture is in the corporate community.  The beauty of good leadership is having the ability of having a wonderful platform to impact someone that you may never know how so.  To learn more, and for the complete show notes, visit: petermargaritis.com Learn more about your ad choices. What do the state of Michigan, ESPN, Indian tribes, LSU's sports program, and Caesar's in Las Vegas have in common? According to Les Bernal of StopPredatoryGambling.org, they want you and your kids to gamble. He connects the dots between state lotteries, online gaming, and the epidemic of child gambling. You can hear the indignation in his voice when he tells us how FanDuel, MGM, Nickolodeon, and state governments are cultivating new gamblers in startling numbers and younger ages than ever imagined, leading to addiction and homelessness. And Leah explains gamblers' licenses.
