Life is a precious gift, and it should not be taken for granted. This is something that my guest Christine, a mother, bestselling author, breast cancer survivor, motivational speaker, Fox News breast cancer expert, and humanitarian, knows all too well. After facing three major illnesses, including breast cancer and fifteen months of chemotherapy, Christine realized that the first forty years of her life, while happy, were not joyful. She was living a life of emptiness and loneliness, and could not understand why. When faced with the prospect of death, Christine had to figure out quickly what life was really about. It was not about the material things, as she realized that there is no U-Haul behind the hearse. Instead, she discovered that life was about giving away her compassion, empathy, and story freely in order to give people hope and to inspire them to not have to go through the same experiences she did. My husband's health issues gave me a new perspective on life as well. Watching him decline in health, and knowing that he was not going to make it, was a very traumatic experience. He had done so much damage to his body that he needed open heart surgery. It was a stark reminder of how fragile life is and how quickly it can be taken away. Life is precious, and it should not be taken for granted. We should all strive to live a life of joy and fulfillment, and make the most of every moment. It is only through understanding the fragility of life that we can truly appreciate it. Christine Handy is a mother of two, a breast cancer survivor, international speaker, accomplished model, best-selling author, and a nationally-recognized humanitarian. Starting at age 11, Christine had a talent for modeling and was featured on campaigns for brands such as JCPenney, Neiman Marcus, Guess, and more. The story of how extreme health issues led to a life-changing epiphany Today I am happy to welcome Christine Handy, mother, model, humanitarian, cancer survivor, and author of “Walk with me,” a novel based on her experiences of dealing with multiple cancers and soon to be made into a film. Today she devotes her life and energy to supporting, helping and motivating others.   Christine told us the story of her health challenges right from the moment they started. After her first surgery, it took her a year to recover. She realised her illness was a wake-up call.   After her second surgery, Christine had a complication and noone, including doctors and family believed that she was unwell. She shared with us how this impacted her emotionally. When she finally got a second medical opinion, the infection was so bad that she needed urgent surgery.    Christine also shared the story of how she first discovered she had breast cancer and fell into deep despair. Her life and her career as a model had been built on how she looked and external considerations. With the passing of time, she found courage and rebuilt her trust in others and started to have self-esteem for the first time. She also realised that her life purpose was to help others.    After all of the hardships she went through, Christine wrote a book about her experiences which is being made into a film and became a motivational speaker. Her trauma transformed into creative fuel. Dr. Christine Handy has held a mentoring role for more than 30 years as a teacher, track coach, and high school principal while also being an entrepreneur and author. Dr. Handy's life mission is to enhance the lives of others via education, counseling, and coaching. She loves the Lord and is an active member of the Church of the Redeemer in Clarksburg, Maryland where she serves as an usher. Dr. Christine started in the field of education as a special education teacher and has served as a high school principal for the past 19 years. She has been recognized as the 2006 state of Maryland's secondary schools principal of the year and was the 2014 recipient of the prestigious Dr. Edward Shirley award for excellence in school leadership as a respected leader in education. She is currently the president of the National Association of Secondary School Principals. Dr. Handy is an international speaker and trainer. She has trained school leaders in Beijing, China and across the USA. She is a trainer, coach, and speaker with the John Maxwell team, specializing in presentations on leadership matters and leading teams through the leadership game. Dr. Handy is also a proud entrepreneur and author. For the past six years she has been involved with Send Out Cards, a technology-based company that uses a mobile platform to help individuals to create financial freedom. She loves helping others to become wealth warriors. She mentioned that if she could talk to her younger self, she’d make sure that  once she started coaching track, she wouldn’t have stopped running track. Reminding us once again that it’s all about finding that balance in order to maintain a healthy lifestyle in both work and with yourself. Christine Handy was diagnosed several years ago with Stage 2 breast cancer. Following an aggressive course of chemotherapy and a mastectomy, she beat the disease.
