Brock is back baby.Digital creator and collegiate distance runner Brock Kelly returns to the podcast for round three today to discuss all things running and life.Brock is a senior at Mississippi College, has a popular YouTube page, and is a budding entrepreneur. Through three-plus seasons he has compiled the following PRs: 1:55.03 in the 800m; 3:51.00 in the 1500m; 4:11.19 in the mile; 14:49.20 in the 5k; and 32:00.55 in the 10k.In high school, Brock was a state champion in the 3,200m; two-time state champ in the 1,600m; three-time state champ in the 800m; and Cross Country state champion in 2018 and 2019.Brock is best known for his YouTube channel (which currently boasts 19,700 subscribers) where he documents his NCAA journey; his “The Daily Mile” series is particularly popular.In addition to his video content, Brock created the OE Athletics Club during his junior year. The brand's motto, “Intentions Over Everything,” focuses on intentionality in athletics and how it can help build strong morals that lead to success.Brock kicked off the 2025 indoor season at the Samford Indoor Open (in Birmingham, Alabama) on January 18 with a second-place finish in the mile with a time of 4:13.41. He holds PRs of 1:55.03 (800m), 4:11.19 (Mile), and 14:49.2 (5k). He has won awards of 2021USTFCCCA All-Academic Team, 2021 GSC Academic Honor Roll, and 2021 USTFCCCA All-Region. In High School, Brock was a state champion in 3,200 meters, 2xstate champ in 1,600 meters, 3xstate champ in 800 meters, and the Cross Country state champion in 2018 and 2019.  Brock also has a successful YouTube channel boasting over 17,000 subscribers documenting his NCAA journey.  In today's conversation, Brock takes me through 2024 and the creation and evolution of "The Daily Mile." We dive into the success of it, what goes into each video, his vision for it, and much more! Amy Bantham began her career in the late nineties as a group exercise instructor, a role she quickly fell in love with. While working in management consulting, she realized that it was teaching group exercise during her lunch hour that truly brought her joy and drive. This eventually led her to begin working with the main industry trade group, IHRSA (International Health, Racquet & Sports Association) for over a decade where she focused on advocacy, health promotion, and health policy.  During her tenure, she played a crucial role in establishing the IHRSA Foundation, which allowed her to further her passion for expanding access to physical activity opportunities. This sparked her desire to pursue a Doctor of Public Health degree, a journey that took three years. Through her impressive career and educational background, Amy has become a dedicated advocate for promoting physical activity and improving public health. About the Daily Mile initiative, she states, "This was an elementary school, in-school physical activity intervention. I did focus groups for them where I talked with 50 administrators, teachers, parents, and community advocates and really tried to understand what were their pain points . . .what did the kids need? What did the teachers need? And how the Daily Mile as a program might be able to help teachers teach and kids learn more about the role that physical activity played there." Some key moments:  Passion for fitness leads to advocacy work. Consider community impact.  Evaluate program, understand barriers, improve health outcomes. Field trips to local health clubs for kids? Dr. Mark Benden is an associate professor and department head for the Department of Environmental and Occupational Health at the Texas A&M School of Public Health, where he also serves as director of the Ergonomics Center. This week we go back to school, with two simple ideas that involve changing the day-to-day lives of pupils to improve their physical and mental wellbeing. The Daily Mile is an idea developed in a Scottish school by an enterprising teacher, which is now being adopted worldwide. It gets pupils to run a mile at a surprise moment during the school day, to break up their learning and burn some calories. Meanwhile, in Bradford, in the north of England, a previously failing school has found salvation through music. To improve its performance in core subjects including maths and English, it promoted music in the timetable and embraced a music-teaching philosophy pioneered in communist-era Hungary.
