Les, Kurt, and Jason are back for their first show of 2025, but have to catch up on their time away and of course the Wildfires in Los Angeles. 2025 has been the longest year ever, and we're only halfway through January! Then Kurt delivers some Blac Chyna news that seems to point to there being plenty more Blac Chyna news for years to come! Then, even though the holidays are over, the guys are eager to talk about Netflix's Lindsay Lohan and Kristin Chenoweth movie Our Little Secret. Could the movie have handled Dementia a bit more sensitively? Sure! Does the movie feature Stranger Things in a passing of time montage that should have become a full-on Netflix sizzle real? Also sure! With Tim Meadows, Chris Parnell, Deby Reyes, and Dan Bucatinsky and a douchey 18-ish Ronan Farrow (ish), this one is worth a watch. TIME OUT! Let's take a TO and have a few morsels of sort of random conversation. There's more of a mini story in this one, about how I got amazing health insurance by being an actor... but more of a conversation about standing up for yourself, whether you're an actor, or whatever you are! People's looks and comments can be like daggers in your heart if you haven't had enough experience yet dealing with standing strong. However, NO ONE will take you seriously until YOU do first, and that can take years... particularly in a town like LA or NY that is LITTERED with actors and creatives reaching for goals. Some people who aren't committed do "ruin" it for those of us who do work hard and are disciplined. However, we can't wait around for people to take us seriously, because even when we are making money or have cold hard evidence of being an actor, they still might not. Key takeaways: Stand up for yourself, no matter what. DO NOT wait for others to take you seriously. DO WHAT YOU WANT! Whatever profession you are, or want to be in, be disciplined, creative in your approach, determined and work hard and then just BE it. You are it, whether you're compensated or not. If you're someone who asks actors what they've been in as the first question, it's time to re-think that. Let's think even just a little more outside the box and get to know the person better on the inside, as opposed to judging them from superficial tendencies. YOU CAN EVEN GET GREAT HEALTH INSURANCE IF YOU'RE AN ACTOR! Sometimes life really shows up for you in the most unexpected ways. Calling all writers! TRUST ME, you're not the only one who struggles with grammar, procrastination or getting a job! Writers Work is here for you! With an extremely low monthly cost, you can get access to career advice, grammar help, procrastination/goal setting techniques that hold you accountable AND you can even get set up with employers who are looking for someone like you. Writer, producer, actor, and advocate Dan Bucatinsky has created his own opportunities in pursuit of becoming a self-described Hollywood “hyphenate.” Since his post-college days (auditioning through Backstage!) he has taken a multifaceted approach to the biz, allowing dreams to evolve and pivoting whenever necessary. His philosophy, both in the entertainment industry and as a father, husband, and human being, boils down to an essential question: “What are the variables that I can control and what are the variables I can’t control?” One of Dan’s first big breaks came from writing and starring in the gay romantic comedy film “All Over the Guy.” His résumé also includes everything from executive producing “The Comeback” and “Web Therapy” with Lisa Kudrow, to writing the memoir “Does This Baby Make Me Look Straight?” to winning an Emmy Award for his performance on Shonda Rhimes’ “Scandal,” and he now stars on ABC’s comedy-drama “The Baker and the Beauty.” --- Backstage has been the #1 resource for actors and talent-seekers for 60 years. ESOPUS inaugurated a collaborative series with the newly renovated Museum of the Moving Image in Astoria, Queens, with a screening and in-person appearance by actress Lisa Kudrow and her producing partner Dan Bucatinsky. In 2005, Kudrow and Michael Patrick King co-created "The Comeback," a penetrating and often brutal satire of reality TV, sitcoms, and show business in general, which aired on HBO for one season (and which was featured, along with an interview with Kudrow and King, in ESOPUS 15: TELEVISION). The program opened with a screening of the series’ first episode, after which Kudrow, who was nominated for an Emmy for her brilliant portrayal of the show’s protagonist, Valerie Cherish, discussed the conception, execution, and untimely demise of the critically lauded series (which was finaly ultimately resurrected by HBO in 2015 for another acclaimed season).
High school sucks for a lot of people, especially young queer kids trying to survive the blinding storm of pubescent hormones while getting bullied or beat up for things they’re just learning to like. Things like musical theater, or in Dan Bucatinsky's case, the leader of his high school's marching band. On this episode of Hot Mic with Dan Savage, guest Dan Bucatinsky, the producer and actor who stars in 24: Legacy, talks with Dan Savage about his not-so-glorious days as an awkward, closeted clarinet player. We'll also hear Dan Bucatinsky's story "Boys in the Band,” which he told live at Don't Tell My Mother, followed by a conversation with Dan Savage about the ways in which things eventually do get better. In each episode of Hot Mic with Dan Savage, relationship expert and columnist Dan Savage showcases and provides commentary on the best true stories about sex and relationships from live storytelling shows across the country.

Dan Bucatinsky can currently be seen on the NBC comedy series, “Marry Me,” as Kevin 2, or better known as one of Annie’s (Casey Wilson) two dads. Many fans will recognize Dan for his Emmy-winning role on the ABC series, “Scandal,” where he played James Novack. Bucatinsky previewed tonight's new episode which includes ANOTHER proposal: “Tonight’s episode is so wild. The proposal of Annie and Jake, (Ken Marino) which triggered the launching of the show, was the un-proposal or the unconventional proposal. Tonight is another proposal between the two Kevins, which is very unexpected. (laughs) I think Kevin would like to think it would trump Annie and Jake’s proposal. I think it’s every bride’s…wait, maybe not every bride (laughs)…but I think it would be a bride’s worst nightmare to have to compete with her own dad for Bride of the Year.” We spoke with him about what went through his head when it was revealed which two (David Rosen or James Novack) would bite the bullet: “It was a bit of a surprise to me. There was an episode prior to this where Jake (Scott Foley) shoots the gun in the street, and one bullet goes off. You don’t know if it was going to be James or David Rosen. That episode I had no warning about. Neither (Josh) Malina nor I knew, and we read it at the table and our jaws dropped. I don’t think the writers quite figured out what they were going to do. They took three or four days to figure this out. It was very nerve-wracking week while we shot that episode. We didn’t quite know what was going to happen in the next episode. Then, I got a phone call four days in, and told me that James was the one who was going to die. It was a sad moment, but they wrote such a beautiful episode."
