Improvised Lyrics: “Bare feet runnin' down a dusty road.Little boy, where you gonna go?Bare feet runnin' down a dusty road.Oh little boy, the places that you'll go.I call you a somebody.Oh don't ever think that you're nobody. My son, you are somebody. You are my son.Oh yeah, my beloved one.Oh oh.You've worked hard all your life. You're so faithful to your wife. And I love the way you love me.It puts me on my knees.Oh yeah, it puts me on my knees.Oh oh.Every song you've sang to me, I hear it.Every prayer you've prayed to me, I sing it.And the way you walk for me.Oh, we're celebrating here. We're celebrating here. You walk down my road.I'm so thankful for what you've chose.Yeah, you're running down my road.Running straight to me.Yeah.My feet are walking next to you. There wasn't a mile I wasn't with you.We have many more miles to go.Many more miles to go.Yeah.Walter, run with me.Now pick up those dusty feet.Come on my son, keep running with me.Oh the places you will go.Yeah.And all the world will know.Oh oh.That this is my son.Whom I love. You are my son.Who I cherish and I love.”
Let's take a trip back to 1994, when Chris was 13 (Mark was 7), and he was busy creating custom Headswim t-shirts around Stirling while discovering the brilliance of that band's debut album. The album in question was "Flood," and it left a profound impression on Chris. While we often discuss the albums that have influenced us, it's uncommon for us to bring one of these into the Unsung spotlight. So, let's dive right in: On this album, Headswim was a grunge band, with added psychedelic influences, haunting Faith No More-esque keyboard elements, and occasional Black Sabbath riffs. The record showcased a band brimming with genuine potential. In a music landscape saturated with grunge acts imitating Nirvana, Pearl Jam, Soundgarden, or Alice in Chains, Headswim offered a surprisingly refreshing alternative. However, their trajectory took a turn. Following the tragic loss of a band member's brother, they made a comeback in 1997 with their second album, "Despite Yourself." Although it received some comparisons to Radiohead at the time, the majority of the album epitomized the generic indie rock sound of the late '90s. And that was essentially the end of their journey. Apart from a single released in 2000 titled "Dusty Road," the band gradually faded into obscurity. That is, until the recent re-release of "Flood" in 2022. So, the question arises: Is this album a forgotten gem or merely another grunge record best left in the past? Tune in and discover the answer!

The Gospel on the dusty road! - Acts 8:27 - Past. John Shipman - 25 Sept 22 by Pastor. John Shipman
The largest waterfalls on the planet. Located seemingly in the centre of Southern Africa, the falls stretches between two countries. It spans 1,700 meters (5,600 feet) between Zimbabwe and Zambia and is simply one of the most stunning things to see in Africa. This is a place we have all visited many times and it never disappoints. In this episode we're going to explore some of the insider tips to help you get the most from your visit while exploring some of the things we love about this destination. Jess White who works with Wild Horizons in Zimbabwe is a Vic Falls local joined us for this episode and helps give us loads of insider tips and ideas. The falls drop just over 100 meters from top to bottom. Not the highest… but but when you consider that the mighty Zambezi river is one of Africa's biggest rivers then you can just imagine what a spectacle this nearly 1.7km of waterfalls really is. The spray that shoots up into the air from the thundering falls rises up about 800m of 2,600 feet into the air and so on a clear day you can see the falls mist from about 50km away! The locals called it MOSI OA TUNYA - the Smoke that Thunders. Want to know what to do, where to eat, what else to see while you're there and how we can help inspire you to get the most from your visit? If so listen in and as always here are the links to most of the places we mentioned. Wild Horizons are an incredible local resource and can help you plan everything from rafting the Zambezi to dining on the Zambezi. Accommodation and transfers you name it. We love these guys. Dusty Road for an incredible local styled culinary experience in the Falls. For more information on Bike Tours in the falls. We spoke about the power of the Negative Ions in Victoria Falls. You can read more about that here in this blog from Wild Horizons. The Lookout Cafe for a must do stop while in the falls.

In a time when everything feels a little less than certain, it's easy to become overwhelmed by anxiety. Today, I sit down and talk with Caris Snider, author of "Anxiety Elephants: A 31-Day Devotional to Help Stomp Out Your Anxiety." As a business owner, speaker, worship leader, wife, and mom, Caris looked like she had it all together. But like so many, she found herself at the end of the road, realizing she had two options: Give up or look up. Fortunately, Caris bravely faced the unknown with the help of her doctors, family, and friends and learned how to contend with her anxiety. It was an honor to have a conversation with Caris about her own journey through anxiety, especially as the entire world is facing with these topsy-turvy times in the midst of a global pandemic. Caris' story offers hope and encouragement as she learned what it means to carry one another's burdens and rest in God. Anxiety, fear, grief, anger...these and so many more are the emotions that so many are feeling during these uncertain Corona Virus times. Today, Matt and I have a long-distance conversation about some of the ways we can not only take comfort in the promises of God during this time, but also very specific activities (or, as our daughter has dubbed them "quarantivities") to fill our time wisely and with fun! It must be said that in the less than 24 hours since recording this, things have changed here in the US and also with me, Brandy. While much of our conversation is focused on dealing with anxiety, I rather ironically, have been feeling my fair share of it. That being said, I remembered this conversation and took a dose of my own advice ("listen to music" and "turn off the news for a minute") and am feeling markedly better. This isn't just lip service. This advice is practical and beneficial. I hope you take it and share it with people you love. Self-Care and Activities During Quarantine: 1. Pray 2. Read the Bible: Psalms are great - try Psalm 23 3. Journal 4. Write letters and send them to loved ones 5. Listen to music you love 6. Spend time with your kids: Conversations, shooting hoops, video games, reading books, crafts, etc... 7. Go for a walk: fresh air + Vitamin D = good for ya! 8. Jigsaw puzzles 9. Complete your To-Do List: or at least knock it down - all those projects that you're saving for "someday" 10. Work on a dream project: write the book, learn the instrument, read the series... Things to Avoid: 1. Steady stream of news: Stay informed, but don't only feed on a media diet of the news 2. Hours of Social Media: See above... 3. Binging on Netflix for the entire time: Give yourself limits and keep your body and brain active Your mental health is just as important as your physical health during this time, so don't neglect it! This year's Super Bowl halftime show was nothing if not controversial! People from all walks of life, backgrounds in faith, genders and sexual identities fell on both sides of the fence when it came to answering the question: was this performance empowering or degrading to women? Enter Brandi Voth, the woman behind The Power Project who is working to bring empowerment to women and men alike. She is a podcaster, author, and volunteer working with people in after-care who have been sexually exploited and trafficked. In this episode, Brandi and I sit down and talk about what the commercial sex trade industry looks like, who is targeted for sex trafficking, how the church can better come alongside those who've been exploited, and what women's empowerment looks like.
