Today, over 1,160 letters still exist between President John Adams and his wife Abigail Adams. And do you know why there were so many letters between them? Because during their marriage, they were long distance for ELEVEN YEARS!! Before Adams became George Washington's VP and eventually the second president of the United States, he was part of the original congress in Philadelphia and served as a diplomat in Europe. Because of this, he and Abigail sometimes only heard from each other once every few months! It's clear from their letters that John and Abigail loved each other immensely. But Kel still has one question she hasn't been able to solve: if John and Abigail adored each other so much, why didn't they ever write the words ‘I love you'? For 20 years, Henry Keogh was imprisoned for a crime he didn't commit. What was a tragic accident turned into a full-blown murder trial, fueled by dubious evidence from now-discredited forensic pathologist, Dr. Colin Manouk. In this episode, host Kathryn Fox talks with Forensic Photographer, Professor Gale Spring, one of the key experts who helped overturn Keogh's conviction in 2014. Hear about the intricate complexities of interpreting images and video, the misplaced trust juries often have in CCTV footage, and the human propensity to perceive patterns where none exist. This episode contains references to the abuse of children. If it affected you, the number for Life Line is 13 11 14. See omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.

Happy 2024, brothers and sisters! May the peace and blessings of Our Lord Jesus Christ be with you this year. The podcast that follows is, admittedly, a couple of weeks late - I originally intended to record it on New Year's Day, but that didn't happen, due to family commitments and other things. Nonetheless, here we are with the relevant podcast to kick off 2024. The first thing to say is, New Year's day marked - no joke - ELEVEN YEARS since I started doing this shitposting thing. That is not an exaggeration. The original Didact's Reach Blogger site launched on Jan 1, 2013. That evolved eventually into the current Didactic Mind site, podcast, and Telegram channel. So we are now into the twelfth year of this whole... journey, if you want to call it that. Most blogs and sites do not last more than 11 weeks, never mind 11 years. As I point out here, I do not do this for anyone other than myself - I literally do not care what most people think about my writing - but it is nonetheless rather rewarding to learn that other people get value from what I do, and appreciate the output. So, as always, thank you very much for your continued patronage, site visits, comments, and community participation. If you want to engage more with the content, then be sure to join the Didactic Mind Telegram channel, which is quite a lot of fun for pretty much everyone involved. It is a small, but highly lively, community that regularly engages in hilarious banter and cross-posting of ideas. And Telegram is simply a great platform that combines the best features of Twitter, WhatsApp, and a long-form site, while offering other features that are far better than any of its competitors. As usual, I will provide analytics for my site and podcast here, so you can get an idea of how this site stacks up against everyone else (hint: not great, but that's fine). Total pageviews of 153K in 2023, which is a 41% decrease against 2022's 260K, and is unsurprising given the much lower rate of poasting; Total of 31,602 unique visitors across the site, which is down about 27% relative to 2022's 43.6K, and again, for the same reasons; Total of 440 comments across 255 posts, which is a decrease of 39% and 16%, respectively; Posts averaged 1,086 words each, making them significantly shorter than what we saw in 2022; The geographic distribution of the site's readership continues to be highly global, but predominantly US-centric: The Didactic Mind podcast also had a decent, though not great, year - due largely to much lower frequency of recording: 2,623 total downloads, down 26.2% against 2022, with over 8,500 total downloads all-time; A more or less steady subscriber base of about 126 Telegram members of the Didactic Mind channel; All in all, a year of struggles, at least in some ways, and I go over some of these in the podcast. I also discuss what 2024 might hold for us, and how we can prepare for what promises to be a very challenging year ahead. Support the War College I have finally signed up for Buy Me A Coffee. If you like what I do, and you would like to express your appreciation, please feel free to do so here. Protect Yourself From Big Tech I make some pretty incendiary statements in this podcast, and in most of my podcasts. I can only do so because I take steps to protect myself from the Big Tech companies, and preserve my identity. You need to do the same – this is no longer optional, because if you don't, the gatekeepers WILL come for your head. If you don't know where to start, then I've got you covered right here with this post. Here are the specific steps that you can take: Make sure that your web traffic is safe and protected from prying eyes using a VPN – click here to get a massive 80% OFF on a 24-month subscription with Surfshark; Be sure also to check out Incogni, the new data and privacy management tool offered by Surfshark, which simply works behind the scenes to ensure that no malign actors can take advantage of your data ever again; Another solid VPN option for you is Atlas VPN, brought to you by the same company that creates NordVPN; The best SSD drive that you can get right now, with blazing fast speeds and near-native storage capabilities, is probably the SanDisk Extreme 1TB Portable SSD with NVMe technology – I bought this myself to keep a moving backup of all of my files, it's the size of a credit card, and it's absolutely superb; Build Your Platform Get yourself a proper domain for your site or business with Namecheap; Put your site onto a shared hosting service using A2Hosting for the fastest, most secure, and stable hosting platform around – along with unlimited email accounts of unlimited size; Create beautiful websites with amazing, feature-rich content using Divi from Elegant Themes; Stand for Western Civilisation Buy yourself a proper Bible; Get your Castalia Library books here; Buy yourself a proper knife for personal defence;

Eleven years a drunkard by Thomas Doner audiobook. He tells of the shame, misery and pain which alcohol brought on him, and will bring to anyone whosoever be tempted by the pleasant feeling it produces at the time of drinking. It doesn't bring one home to shelter but drives them away. It leads one to forget the evil it brings and tempts one to pursue more for the pleasant feeling it produces. This 'pleasant feeling' produces many murderers in our land. It doesn't push the sufferer to ask for help but to lie about the drinking. Once Satan has a foothold he wants an even tighter grasp. He exhorts - you boys, to learn this lesson, 'If you do not take the first drink, you will not be tempted to take the second.' And if you take the first drink do not take the second or the monster will have done its work and will surely lead you to a third and a fourth and to associate with the inmates of taverns until you are committed to prison, executed in the gallows, a cripple (like Doner) or to a drunkard's grave. Filth, drunkenness, crime and blasphemy, Doner writes, are the rewards for stepping in this Snare of the Devil. Learn more about your ad choices. Visit megaphone.fm/adchoices

Today I speak with my ex-husband and the father of our children. We reflect on eleven years since the death of our younger twin daughter A'Mya. In doing this we are spending time speaking about her, honoring her place in our lives, and, as I'd like to see it: spending time parenting her.Our conversation was moving and opened my eyes to parts of Chris' grief that I wasn't aware of. Chris says the following about his personal experience of grief:‘It is a constant thing; it never goes away. It often pops up in little moments, sometimes catches you unexpectedly and all of a sudden, it's like: Oh, I wasn't thinking about these things and here it is. And I think that will happen all my life. You know, there's going to be all sorts of key moments in Ananda Mae's life where I'll be wondering what would have been like two of them, what would A'Mya have been like. How would she have been? I think that's natural.'I, Nathalie cannot say this often enough:‘I think that is so important for people to understand that this is not something that goes away. It's just like my mother she will always be my mother and there are key moments that I miss her more and then key moments where it is less present. But this is not going to go away because she's dead. Part of her not being here present physically is a topic, the same way as for me, for you, for Ananda Mae, it's a topic that her sister is not growing up with her.'About this week's guest Chris and Nathalie are the parents of Ananda Mae and A'Mya, twin girls who do not grow up with each other. As their parents, they do their best at raising one here on earth and the other in the beyond, wherever that is. In this episode of the Pawareness Podcast, host Kris McCauley welcomes Wimberley Adoption Group & Rescue Volunteer Coordinator and Director of Community Outreach Julee Reslewic. Providing homes for abandoned and surrendered dogs in a tight-knit community, the rescue aims to give another chance at life and an opportunity for hope for dogs in need of homes. Since they started in 2009, the rescue has grown over the years with their services for dogs and pet-owners. They facilitate foster and adoption programs in the western Hayes County, Texas. By providing medical and emotional care for dogs, the rescue also collaborates with local organizations to fulfill their mission. This year, the rescue is planning to expand their nursery which they started last year. This facility addresses the need for puppies to have a safe and comfortable environment as they develop into adult dogs. The rescue is also setting their sights on building a healing house for recovering dogs. “Eleven years is a pretty good number for a relatively small rescue. Our goal is to take in and help a hundred dogs.” - Julee Reslewic Tune in to find out how you can support local rescues so they can have enough resources to save more dogs in your community!
