Unfortunately, our nation's history includes seasons when laborers have been abused and oppressed. In the 1880s that was the case as the railroad barons required laborers to work on average 60 hours a week. When one individual feels they're being abused, it's hard for that one person to individually overcome their employer's demands. But when ... A landmark court case in the UK recently saw five radical climate activists jailed for up to five years for their role in organising the blocking of a major motorway to protest against fossil fuels. The sentences have been criticised by many, including the UN, as excessive given the peaceful nature of the protest and the cause behind it, but are the result of years of escalation by climate activists which has led the government to pass tougher, harsher laws criminalising disruptive but peaceful protest. But how should Christians approach law-breaking for what is supposedly a good cause? What does Jesus's famous words about ‘render unto Caesar what is Caesar's' mean in our 21st century context? Is it ever right for believers to deliberately break the law? And, should we in the church be concerned about ever more draconian and vaguely-worded laws which allow the police to clamp down more harshly on civil disobedience? • Subscribe to the Matters of Life and Death podcast: https://pod.link/1509923173 • If you want to go deeper into some of the topics we discuss, visit John's website: http://www.johnwyatt.com • For more resources to help you explore faith and the big questions, visit: http://www.premierunbelievable.com

Mike Flanagan's latest horror effort, The Fall of the House of Usher, has arrived on Netflix just in time for Halloween! Serving as a modernized tribute and anthology to the works of Edgar Allan Poe, it weaves together a variety of the author's short stories and poetry around a larger narrative of one family's responsibility for the American opioid epidemic. The series provides a variety of pulpy and fun moments, but struggles to contain a ham-fisted and overly preachy condemnation of capitalism. Mark Hamill, Bruce Greenwood, Mary McDonnell, and the rest of the ensemble cast shine as the deeply unlikable Usher family and their cronies, and the cinematography is also memorable and spectacular.

This episode is what the kids call "a banger." Brant Cox of The Infatuation joins us to talk about how he became one of LA's most trusted food critics, how The Infatuation goes about rating restaurants, and why anonymity in food criticism is no longer a must. He talks us through EEEEEATSCON, The Infatuation's upcoming behemoth of a food festival, which is coming in hot May 20 and May 21 at Santa Monica's Barker Hangar. Father Sal and I proceed to then recap an epic food crawl we took through LA last weekend, which took us from noshing on smashburgers in Santa Monica to gnawing on Thai fried chicken in Sherman Oaks. Les, Kurt, and Jason may very well have stumbled upon the worst Lifetime movie they've ever seen (a bold assessment, but Les takes full responsibility for choosing Drunk, Driving, and 17). But before the guys dissect this after school special geared towards adults, they first need to discuss potential celibacy for Blac Chyna. Then they're able to attend the State-Funded Park Ranger School of Acting End of Year Showcase. The real crime highlighted here SHOULD be the literal grand theft auto, that is never addressed again once the movie gets going (or, rather, puttering), it's that the parents can do time for playing favorites by allowing sexism to rule as their male oldest underaged teenager ever gets to have a kegger (which is also kind of a key party, maybe?), while their teenaged daughter is banished off to another house for the night. Put on your white jumpsuit so you're ready to run away from this movie. Facebook : alifetimeofhallmark Instagram : lifetimeofhallmarkpodcast Theme song generously donated by purple-planet.com

Happy New Year to You! As we kick off our 4th Season, we are currently being downloaded in 98 countries – a fact that we are tremendously proud of and have worked extremely hard to achieve.Thank you for helping us achieve this momentous goal!On this premier, explosive, new episode, we drill vast, deep and wide to bring you the facts, not the fiction. This is another eye-opening episode as we continue with our in-depth analysis focusing on the Police and their contact with the mentally ill.In September 2022 there were at least 60,252 homeless people, with some 19,310 homeless children, sleeping each night in New York City's main municipal shelter systems.Eric Adams, the 110th Mayor of the Capital of The World (New York City), has announced and undertaken some very bold moves to attempt to address a “crisis we see all around us”. His administration announced a major push to “remove people with severe, untreated mental illness from the city's streets and subways” with a process called Involuntary hospitalization. The mayor expressed that we have a “moral obligation” to help those that are not in the position to help themselves. This policy will no doubt face strong opposition from civil liberty groups as it will examine what “liberty” and “freedom from “governmental intrusions” are all about.Does a person lose any of their Constitutional protections simply because they mumble to themselves, have clothes that are soiled, torn and in tatters or haven't had a shower in months? Some critics have equated this process with “State sponsored kidnapping”. While it may sound harsh to some, imagine if you were taken somewhere against your will, how would that make you feel? The mayor's announcement comes at a time when there is an intensive national debate about rising crime and the role of the police – especially dealing with those who are already in a delicate, fragile and tenuous mental state to begin with and may be spiraling downward into a deeper mental health crisis.Join us as we: ● Examine the issues both pro and con, defining the processes that are in play.● Investigate what other states and cities have done and are attempting to do to daily address this issue and those individuals who lack adequate housing and suffer from some degree of mental illness.● Provide you with un-cut, exclusive audio of the mayor in his historic speech at City Hall.● Customarily ask the tough questions that get at the crux of the issue.● Have our pulse on the city with two other “Light ‘Em Up: Action-Exclusive Reports” from our New York affiliate and social justice correspondents on scene. We've worked tirelessly to try to be the “Voice of the people”. The plaintiff says she purchased a boat trailer made by the defendant, but it broke while carrying a vessel, and she wants a refund. She's suing for the money she says she is owed. The defendant claims the plaintiff incorrectly thought she could carry a boat with four tanks of gas, and she's the one at fault. Then, the plaintiff says her elderly mom lived in an apartment the defendant owned. When her mother moved out, the defendant reportedly did not return the security deposit, so the plaintiff is suing. The defendant claims the plaintiff's mother left a bunch of debris, and the defendant had to pay to have it all removed. Plus, the plaintiff says he brought his car to the defendant's repair shop to get a Bluetooth device installed, but it didn't work, so he's suing for the money he paid the guy. The defendant insists the plaintiff gave him a USB and not a Bluetooth device to install, and the plaintiff just didn't know the difference. That shouldn't be his problem. Baseball game riots, Black-Hand gangsters, and "Skulking dope peddlers", from 1900-1931 Captain James Robert "Bob" Burk's career spanned the gap between Pender and Noble/Keeter. Noted for his heavy hand and impeccable memory, Burk's legacy is tied into Black-Hand gang leader JH Martin, who due to the time period was able to change his name multiple times to avoid crimes in other locations, while also being one of Teddy Roosevelt's storied Rough Riders. We live in a society where our Prime Minister takes a beach vacation while our public health officials say ‘no' to Thanksgiving gatherings for the unvaccinated and ‘no' to beach vacations for all Canadians. Enough is enough, says Candice Malcolm. Thanksgiving is a time for gratitude and to pause and appreciate all the wonderful things in our lives: family, friends, faith, peace, stability and our great tradition of democracy and ordered liberty. But if we don't remain vigilant, we may lose our ancient freedoms. If we let heavy-handed public health order and propaganda media erode our freedoms, we may never get them back. Jason Hartman begins the show with his in-house economist Thomas discussing two differing population models: the UN population model and the Empty Planet model. Our world is currently entering a population phase previously unseen and it could have a serious impact on our world. Then Jason begins his interview with Dan Amerman, CFA and author of books such as Mortgage Securities and Collateralized Mortgage Obligations: Unlock The Secrets Of Mortgage Derivatives, about how a heavy handed Fed has changed how inflation and housing have correlate to each other, why the Fed reacts to quickly, and what the Fed is setting interest rates up to do. Key Takeaways: [4:55] The UN Population model vs the Empty Planet model [8:46] We're entering Stage 5 of the demographic transition theory, which is something nobody's really ever seen before [13:22] Jason's most recent book suggestion [15:33] What does this coming population shift mean to investors? Dan Amerman Interview: [20:44] The Federal Reserve is getting more heavy handed as years go by, and hints of a coming recession could lead to more intervention [25:38] Housing tracked inflation better than gold until the Federal Reserve got real heavy handed after 2001 [30:27] The Fed reacts too quickly to things [32:06] Dan's prediction of where interest rates are about to head Website: www.JasonHartman.com/Masters www.DanielAmerman.com
