Foreign investments in the secondary market for treasuries recorded a net sale on Monday of EGP1.7 billion, the first after the EGP flotation early March. Foreigners bought EGP326 million worth of treasuries and sold about EGP2.04 billion. American energy company Apache invested USD137 million in exploration activity in Egypt during the 1Q24. The government is looking to cut down on its spending on bread subsidies to bring the selling price closer to the “massive” cost of production, Prime Minister said. He explained that the government will continue to subsidize bread. Prime Minister also signaled that we could see more fuel price hikes as the state looks to “restore balance” between cost of production and end price by the end of 2025. This will happen “gradually” and will not include diesel. Prime Minister said that the Electricity Minister will prepare a plan as to how the government can completely cut its spending on electricity subsidies over the coming four years. Households with light consumption will continue to see their electricity bill heavily subsidized but the government will be able to cover the cost through other outlets. The government is looking into importing wheat from Mexico, Zimbabwe, and Sweden in a bid to diversify its wheat across different continents, a government official said.  Prime Minister said that he assigned the Ministers of Electricity and Petroleum to develop a clear plan to bring load-shedding to an end, with the end of daylight saving time, no later than next November or December. The USD concessions by individuals and companies to banks and exchange offices since 6 March 2024 has reached about USD3 billion, sources said. Saudi Arabia's Public Investment Fund (PIF) is in talks to acquire an unspecified minority stake in local agriculture firm Daltex Corporation through a capital increase. GV Investments' automotive arm GV auto will start locally manufacturing Chinese state-owned auto manufacturer FAW Group's cheapest EV model in 1Q25. The production will mainly target ride-hailing services.. The companies will spend up to USD20 million on industrial facilities.We issued a valuation update for BINV where we maintain our Overweight recommendation on an updated FV of EGP34.17/share given the company's recent round of new investments. CNFN subsidiary, Sarwa Insurance, targets EGP80 million in profits by the end of this year and plans to increase its paid-in capital from EGP138 million to EGP250 million during the first half of the fiscal year 2024-2025.

The U.S. and China were a distant second and third, with U.S. sales up 321 percent to 18,514 and China up 110 percent to 18,285.   - VW Group's sales chief, Christian Dahlheim, said the automaker expects sales in China to get a significant boost in the third quarter from the June market launch of the ID6 seven-seat electric crossover.   - Audi, which sells the Q4 e-tron and e-tron GT, saw its full-electric sales grow 69 percent to 32,775. Porsche, whose only full-electric car is the Taycan, sold 19,822 EVs, up 342 percent. Natural gas, used mostly to generate electricity and heat, took its largest annual share on record.         While fossil fuel use falls, renewables are continuing to rise to new records.   - You have to go as far back as 1991 to find a similar level of fossil fuel consumption. The company, part of EDF Renewables since 2019, is looking to deliver to 2GW of battery storage   - The new sites will replicate Pivot Power's Energy Superhub Oxford model, which is nearing completion and will provide a blueprint for towns and cities across the UK to cut carbon and improve air quality. PHEV were sidelined from their plans.   TESLA SLASHES PRICE OF MODEL S TO $71,990 Tesla surprised everyone with a spontaneous reduction in Model S price today. Starting at $71,990 in the US. (£74,980 in the UK). That follows a $5,000 price drop earlier this year in May. Q2 2020 deliveries of S&X were 15,200. Same time in 2019 was 17,400. And back in 2018 it was 27,660 in Q3. But they are keeping the Model S relevant with range bumps and the Plaid model on sale now, available end of 2021. Both versions got a price drop of 3k so MSP is $91,990.   NEW LUCID AIR MODEL JOINS THE LINEUP AT $69,900 "At Lucid, our vision has always been to create the world’s best EV technology and make it progressively more attainable over time. The new range is showing 371 miles on a single charge, which is a significant increase over Tesla’s currently advertised range of 351 miles. The new range is still not displayed on the EPA’s website. On Tesla’s website, the Model X is also still listed at 351 miles on a single charge, and it is still listed at $79,990. The lowest-priced of these net carbon-neutral models, the ID.3 Life, will cost £29,990 RRP OTR including the £3,000 plug-in car grant. Orders for the new models will open next week with first deliveries expected before the end of the month. Six of these models use the familiar 58 kWh battery (net capacity) and 204 PS motor seen on the 1ST Edition, while the ID.3 Tour also has a 204 PS motor but introduces the largest 77 kWh battery (net capacity) with an increased range of 336 miles. At the top of the range, meanwhile, the four-seater ID.3 Pro S will have the largest battery fitted. Its name is unknown at the moment with names like ID.5, ID.4 Coupe, and ID.4 GTX believed to be under consideration. My name is Martyn Lee and I go through every EV article online so you don’t have to. We'll start with a follow up to yesterday's story about the hypermile'd Model 3, the attempt by Sean Mitchell and his hypermiling partner Erik Strait. After covering 606.2miles, using 66kWh at 110Wh/mile they were able to relax and once again dream of driving a car over 30mph. However there's a sting in the tail of this story. After trying to charge the Model 3 overnight at a Supercharger, it was refusing to take any charge. The last I heard it was being towed to a Service Centre where I imagine Model 3 experts will be waiting for it. As much as Tesla love the good publicity they'll be keen to understand what's happened here. It seems like pulling 66kWh hours isn't much from a 74/75 kWh pack. Also, the car was hired from Turo.   EVS NOW COMPETITIVE, SAYS LEASEPLAN'S CAR COST INDEX Cost comparison for EVs with ICE cars has been a moving target, some say 2020 and some say 2025. But everyone agrees sales of EVs will take off once they are cost competitive. However maybe that day is...today! "In several European countries, electric vehicles (EVs) are now cost competitive with traditional powertrains. The TCO gap is rapidly narrowing in Belgium and the UK, while EVs are already cheaper in Norway and the Netherlands. That is the conclusion of LeasePlan's most recent Car Cost Index (CCI)." says Frank Jacobs for FleetEurope: "The CCI is a comprehensive, annual analysis of the Total Cost of Ownership for a small to medium-sized car (B & C segment) in 21 countries" which includes taxes, insurance, fuel, maintenance and the all-important depreciation. "TCO of EVs also varies greatly, from a low of €597 in Hungary to a high of €986 in Italy. Norway is the only country where TCO for an EV (€670) is lower than for a petrol (€731) or diesel (€722) car."   TESLA SEMI SPIED BETWEEN FREMONT AND PALO ALTO Time for another sighting of the Tesla Semi which is putting in some miles, not only for testing, but also doing some work as well according to the rumours. During a talk in the Netherlands, Tesla VP of Truck programs Jerome Guillen said: "Tesla will be the first customer for its own truck. So we will use our own trucks to carry cargo in the US between our different facilities. We have (an) assembly factory in California, we have a battery factory in Nevada, so we’ll use our truck to carry things in between" Teslarati say "The latest image of the Tesla Semi was shared by Model 3 owner and r/TeslaMotors subreddit member u/AMG76, who stated that the picture was taken just this past weekend."   DIESEL IS ‘FINISHED’ IN EUROPE AMID PUSH FOR ELECTRIC CARS EV's could be getting an easier ride in Europe partly because sales of diesels are in freefall and people are looking for alternatives. "European commissioner Elzbieta Bienkowska said the EU has had a “breakthrough moment” since Germany-based Volkswagen AG admitted in 2015 that it fitted diesel engines with software to cheat U.S. checks on smog-causing discharges of nitrogen oxides. This deeply affected “the emotions in society toward emissions and cleaner cars,” she said.“Diesel cars are finished,” Bienkowska said in a May 24 interview in her ninth-floor Brussels office. “I think in several years they will completely disappear. This is the technology of the past.”   VOLKSWAGEN OPENING THREE NEW FACTORIES IN CHINA FOR EV BOOM "Volkswagen AG is opening three new factories in China with its local partner FAW Group" according to Bloomberg: "Two of the new facilities will be in Tianjin and Foshan, VW said in an emailed statement, adding it opened one in Qingdao on Monday. The plants will focus on bringing more sport-utility and electric vehicles for local production, the fastest growing segments of China’s auto market." "The Qingdao factory opened with the introduction of the new Bora on the MQB platform and will produce battery systems"   BMW WIRELESS CHARGING AVAILABLE STARTING TODAY "Today marks the market launch of BMW’s highly anticipated wireless charging solution for iPerformance cars. BMW has been talking about it for over a year, in anticipation of the launch of their new BMW 530e iPerformance model, the first production car available with wireless charging." says Nico at BMW BLog: "The system is now available for orders and allows customers to recharge their 530e – and future PHEV models – by simply parking the car over a so-called base pad. The BMW Wireless Charging option can be ordered now as a leasing-option for the BMW 530e iPerformance. The product offer starts with Germany, subsequently followed by the UK, the US, Japan and China."   ELON MUSK JUST REVEALED NEW TESLA MODEL 3 PERFORMANCE EDITION DETAILS "In response to Tesla aficionado Ryan McCaffrey, Musk confirmed on Twitter that the car will come with sport-level brakes, coupled with red calipers" according to Inverse "New brakes aren’t the only cosmetic changes coming to the car. It will be the first variant to offer a white interior alongside the standard black, as well as a carbon fiber spoiler and 20-inch performance wheels instead of the “Aero” wheels offered on the base models."   SK INNOVATION BEGINS CONSTRUCTION OF 7.5 GWH BATTERY PLANT IN HUNGARY And finally, InsideEVs reports: "SK Innovation held a groundbreaking ceremony for its first European lithium-ion battery factory in Hungary." How long does it take to build a battery factory? Well even though the build starts now, it won't produce cells until early in 2020. "The batteries to be produced in SK Battery Hungary will be third-generation EV batteries, which give an EV 500km range with one charge. The company had announced in September, 2017 that it would start mass-producing of the world’s first medium-to-large NCM (nickel:cobalt:manganese) pouches. SK Battery Hungary expects to start mass-producing and supplying the batteries from early 2020. AUDI E-TRON LOOKS ALMOST PRODUCTION-READY IN NEW SPY PHOTOS Motor 1 has got hold of new spy shots of the forthcoming Audi e-tron quattro, and as were about 3 months away from seeing it on 30th August, it's pretty much finished. Motor 1 says: "Our talented spy photographers have sent us this batch of shots with a near production prototype of the EV, undergoing testing in southern Germany. Under the clothes will be an electric propulsion, which will produce somewhere in the region of 435 horsepower (320 kilowatts). What’s more important, the vehicle will be able to travel up to 248.5 miles (400 kilometers) at a single charge." The battery is 95kWh, and my take from the pics, it's very similar to the Mercedes EQC and the Jaguar I-PACE. There will always be comparisons to the Tesla Model X but it looks more compact.   BMW GROUP PASSES 250,000 MILESTONE FOR ELECTRIC VEHICLES ON THE ROAD "BMW Group has reached the major milestone of 250,000 of its electric vehicles being on the road around the world. Announcing its sales figures for April following a record-breaking first quarter, the German automotive giant revealed that it had shipped nearly 10,000 EVs in that month alone, pushing it past the quarter of a million mark." according to BusinessChief. "We are delighted to announce that there are now over a quarter of a million electrified BMW Group vehicles on the world’s roads,” said Pieter Nota, Member of the Board of Management of BMW AG responsible for Sales and Brand BMW. "Combined sales of BMW i, BMW iPerformance and MINI Electric vehicles were up 52% in April (9,831). We are well on track to deliver on our stated target to sell over 140,000 electrified vehicles this year."   'MILD HYBRID' KIA SPORTAGE DUE LATER THIS YEAR 48v mild hybrids are an attractive way for car makers to add some electrification without the expense of a hybrid or plug in hybrid system, whilst doing enough to lower the MPG. Kia look like they'll be doing that to their Sportage in the second half of this year reports Fleetworld: "The technology includes a compact 48-volt battery under the boot floor, charged using energy recuperated through a motor-generator connected to the engine’s crankshaft. It means the engine can switch off earlier and for longer, even while the car is moving, and lean on a 13bhp power boost from the motor while accelerating, both of which reduce fuel consumption."   TESLA MODEL 3 TRAVELS 515.7 MILES ON SINGLE CHARGE IN HYPERMILE RU We love a good story of hypermiling. Being very gentle with your right foot and possibly following trucks too closely which we don't recommend. And Teslarati have picked up on this "A Tesla Model 3 driven by Denver Tesla Club president Sean M. Mitchell just set a hypermile record, traveling 515.7 miles (830 km) on a single charge. The trip, which lasted 18 hours, started from Denver, CO and ended in Topeka, KS." He did it at 30mph, Chill mode was on and regen was on low. And of course you wouldn't try this attempt without the Model 3 Aero Wheels. @SeamMMitchell: "515.7 mi (830 km): Though well short of intentions, great to set the benchmark for longest hypermile in a #Tesla #Model3. The last 100 mi really cut into range (poor route planning). Decided to play it safe and stop early."   LEAKED EMAIL SAYS TESLA MAY HAVE HUGE BURST OF MODEL 3 PRODUCTION THIS WEEK CNBC reports on another email from Elon Musk. Now we know what he meant by Tesla being a leaky sieve of information. "The email said it is "quite likely" Tesla will make more than 500 Model 3 cars per day this week, which would be a 75 percent increase over last month, Electrek said. Tesla was not immediately available for comment. Musk also asked employees to identify any production bottlenecks."   CHINA'S FAW TO INVEST $260M IN BYTON "Chinese state-owned carmaker FAW Group has agreed to invest around $260 million in China-backed electric car start-up Byton as part of an ongoing series-B funding round, two people with knowledge of the matter told Reuters on Tuesday." says Norihiko Shirouzu for Reuters. "The deal was signed over the weekend in Nanjing where Byton is building its headquarters and production facilities as well as a technology centre, they said.
