Welcome back to She Sells Radio with Elyse Archer! Our guest this week is Julie Ciardi, a former Fortune 500 marketing VP turned multi-passionate entrepreneur. She is the podcast host of IGNITE Your Side Hustle. Julie believes that there has never been a better time for women to create an additional income stream that is aligned to her passions and purpose on this planet. If you’re looking to make some bold moves, you won’t want to miss today’s show!   Julie found herself at the top of the corporate ladder as a vice president in a Fortune 500 company, making a good, stable amount of money, and was the primary breadwinner in her household. However, even though she had a comfortable place to be, she was stuck in what she thought she should be, and that wasn’t leaving her feeling fulfilled. Making the leap to doing her own thing was certainly difficult. Especially as a woman, Julie found herself battling fears of high risks and guilt. But once that idea was firmly planted in her soul, she knew she had to do it. There was a two and half year journey to leave corporate. Many women hesitate because they aren’t sure of the ‘right’ way to do it, but Julie reminds us that there is no right way, and you have to decide what’s right for you. For Julie, she and her family downsized--because it’s not about the money you make, it’s about the money you keep. That allowed her to take a step back and commit to her exit strategy.    Many women Elyse works with say they’re afraid to take action because they fear that if it doesn’t work out the way they thought it would, then their dream is gone. Julie shares with us that it’s okay to try something and move on from it to the next step. As you move towards what you thought was your ideal situation, you may come upon an opportunity to have everything you’ve ever wanted, and all you have to do is take it.    Julie curated the stand-out, break-out formula. It’s about understanding who you are, what makes you tick, and what is unique about you, then bringing that to the table no matter where you are. The courage to that, Julie says, was priorities. It was a willingness to take the leap, no matter what. Committing to what matters most to you over everything else is how you get there. That means being okay with saying ‘no’ to things. When you set boundaries and have self-worth, the true value is found. Another big part of the formula is a certainty. Having a crystal clear goal and understanding that you know where you’re going and why can create a burning desire. Success comes from that drive--when you have that, you’ll show up every time and you’ll achieve what you want to achieve. From there, the money flows. Consistency is another aspect of the formula. Everyone wants things to happen faster than they’re going to happen. Success doesn’t happen overnight, but breakthroughs do. But, you have to put in the time to get that moment. Feeling flatlined happens and that’s where people stop. But that’s right before the breakthrough!    LINKS   https://julieciardi.com/ https://www.instagram.com/julieciardi/

Episode three is a biggie!  For Julie and Matt, communication is critically important in the ENM lifestyle.  Matt begins the podcast by asking Julie if it’s possible to over communicate?  Her answer is a resounding NO!  Matt points out how difficult it can be to share the things with each other that are uncomfortable; and how important is it to be open to each other and understanding.  We discuss the need for “safe space” inside relationships so that each person can feel like they are being heard and not judged.  This episode ties in a little with podcast two, as we overlap on the need for good listening skills.  We both worry about oversharing with issues that happen with other lovers or swinging paramours in our lives.  Being present and attentive to listening to those struggles, yet also objective and not putting our individual wants or preferences first can be challenging.  Do any of you struggle with these topics?  We’d love to hear your thoughts and ideas on our blog at American-Poly.com

You don’t have to be a naturally confident person when you start your business, but you do need to learn how to be more confident in order to have true success. Julie Reisler, CEO of Julie Reisler International and host of The You-est You podcast, joins me to talk about how to find true confidence by stepping into your highest purpose. For Julie, it was a journey of years that took her through many self-help and support group programs that led her to the realization that she absolutely loved helping and advising other people. She describes how she was able to tap into herself and discover that her highest potential is to help guide others in finding their own path. Julie is a firm believer in trusting her intuition. She explains the process she uses to question hers and what results this has brought her and her career. She also shares the importance of being over doing, even though as humans, we’re far more comfortable doing. As Julie has published her meditations on the Insight Timer app, she believes that meditation is a big part of finding our true alignment. She explains how even those of us with the busiest of minds can learn to find the calm that meditation brings.  By finding her true calling, Julie has found out what actually happens when your entire heart and soul go into your business. Her business is in six-figures after just a handful of years and she owes this success to following her intuition. By trusting herself and her intuitive guidance, Julie stepped into her confidence to own what she teaches. Julie shares the steps you can take to find your own confidence, even if you’ve never been a naturally confident person. She explains why walking in your purpose doesn’t come naturally to us and what happens when we do. Julie also guides us through creating a routine that encourages our state of being. Are you ready to find the confidence to walk in your true purpose? What do you know your calling is? Or if you’re not sure, what do you think is blocking you from your truth? Let me know in the comments on the episode page!   In This Episode: How to tap into yourself and find your highest potential Why you should ask your intuition if you have a question about your direction Where being exists compared to doing How to quiet your mind in order to meditate What happens when you put your entire heart and soul, intuitively, into your business What steps you can take to start your own business when you have no idea How your intuition will help you step into your confidence Where you can find your confidence Why it’s difficult to walk in your purpose How to create a routine to encourage being overdoing   Quotes: “I really think this inner wisdom, this intuition, is something that is within and is more of a listening and receiving, less of a doing and a pushing. You have to be in that mode in order to hear it.” (14:40) “Once you start to really understand, feel, and sense how to work with your intuition, it will never steer you wrong. A lot of my confidence is in this sense of knowingness.” (30:29) “A great way to build confidence is to keep evidence of what’s working and what people want from you, what’s natural, where you thrive easily. Julie Daniluk, RHN, is a leading nutritionist and has been featured on The Marilyn Denis Show several times to share nutritional tips and tricks and healthy meal ideas. For twelve years, she was a co-operative owner and the Chief in-store Nutritionist for one of Canada's largest health food stores, The Big Carrot Natural Food Market. Julie’s passion for nutrition and conscious eating started when she was about seven years old when her mother realized that Julie had severe Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD). For Julie, this showed up in symptoms such as insomnia, terrible grades, incredible ups and downs with her moods, and an inability to hold focus. Following the work of Dr. Feingold, a Paediatric Allergist from California, her Mother took Julie off all sugar, artificial sugar, and sucrose and within two weeks her grades went from D’s to straight A’s and she was able to fall asleep at night and get a full night’s rest. These results are attested to the decrease in brain inflammation caused by sugar and sugar byproducts and without the presence of the inflammation, she was able to move into a state of rest and regeneration instead of her body being in fight or flight mode. Eliminating Inflammation in the Body and ways that we can Identify it: Inflammation is the body’s emergency healing response system, so we don’t want to fully demonize inflammation because it's what heals you when you have an infection. We need inflammation so that our immune system is aware of when and where to send in help. Inflammation, however, can become a negative thing when it’s locked in for too long and goes from acute inflammation to chronic inflammation. The key here is to learn how to switch this off before it causes a lot of damage. Know that every single relationship is changeable, including your relationship to food. When you feed yourself healing food, it’s a loving act. Just start with what you can put into your body and by making a positive choice, it will start a domino effect of feeling good and continuing to make better choices. You can find your way through something, the stress comes from the change, and once you adapt to that change (the only constant in life) it can become something that improves the quality of your life. If you want anything in your life, it all starts with the gateway of your health because once your health is sorted, everything is possible. Julie is currently writing another book with lots of information on Eating Psychology and is developing hundreds of new recipes which she is very excited about! In May 2019, Rachel passed away suddenly and unexpectedly, and people all over the globe continue to mourn her death. Julie grapples with a deep sense of loss and struggles to understand how the loss of someone she never met could have such an impact on her life.  For Sarah, it is Henri Nouwen, Eva Cassidy, and her grandfather, William Scharbrough. There’s something mystical about reading the words, or hearing the voice of someone who has already passed on, and our attachment to these individuals is different from those who are still here with us.  Our own stories are impacted by people whom we’ve never met, and we hope the stories we share in this sacred space will also touch your life.  Today’s guest is Marisella Bordrero. Marisella was in corporate recruiting for 10 years prior to her starting her private career coaching program for women. After the birth of her daughter, she struggled to find her new identity as a mother and a career-driven, high-achieving woman. With the help of her supportive husband, a therapist, and her own exploration in the world of personal development, she was able to establish a clear sense of self and purpose and is grateful to serve as a coach for other women on the same journey. What is your criteria for success? How do you know when you’ve achieved what you set out to do? It’s a question we all ask ourselves at some point, but along the way, that initial idea of success can change. Certainly it has in Julie’s case. The things she wanted and needed at the beginning of her entrepreneurial journey have evolved over time, forcing her to re-evaluate what her idea of success is now. In this week’s show, Julie talks about re-analysing our ideals; when to do it, how to do it, and why you should do it. KEY TAKEAWAYS For some, success is having time to do the things we love, or having the ability to pick and choose when we work. For others it may be financial freedom. For Julie it was being able to spend time with her parents and family. Success criteria changes once milestones are reached. If we achieve time freedom, financial freedom, what comes next? What are the next milestones? Success doesn’t have to be huge. It can be as simple as finding a new friend or making a new connection. Another point to consider is how comfortable we are. We are programmed to stay safe. We are 95% habit, which means that for that amount of our lives we are not conscious about our lives; we are instead driven by routine and comfort.  Successful people look at challenges as opportunities and do something different with them. Truly successful people will applaud other people’s successes. If you are learning from someone, such as a mentor, then make sure that they have achieved the things that you wish to achieve. Make sure that they can actively do the things you want to be able to do. BEST MOMENTS ‘I remember thinking that financial freedom was £15 million worth of property in the next year. Joining us in this episode of C2C Podcast is Julie Perino, the Senior Director of Customer Marketing at Marketo and Adobe. Marketo is one of the foremost marketing automation software and was acquired by Adobe back in 2018.1. Julie loves the idea of companies engaging with their users both online and offline. While there has been an upward trend in engagement online, she believes in meeting customers wherever they are because nobody can deny the value of face-to-face connections. So when Marketo's customers meet together through Marketo User Groups or “MUGs”, it becomes a community where everyone has something to share and learn from others.2. She also describes the “Fearless 50” program. This program celebrates marketers from across the globe that are using bold, fearless marketing, out of the box thinking and driving innovation at their companies. Through this program, Marketo helps the chosen 50 individuals because of their marketing efforts, offering them opportunities to learn and grow their career.3. It's hard for community managers to prove that their work impacts revenue. For Julie, she has done it with customer adoption scores. It's interesting to learn how they are connecting the dots with their community work with how customers are adopting Marketo at their work.

Kari’s first detox/cleanse that she ever did was the Daniel plan about 4 or 5 years ago. The biggest change that Kari notices after a cleanse is that she has more energy and feels more clear. After participating in cleanse or detox Kari has realized that they get easier each time that she does a detox. The point of a detox is to start habits that will stay with you and enrich your diet for the rest of your life.  For Julie the cleanses and detoxes that she has done in the past have helped her to make small changes that stick with her and help her to make better choices. Cutting dairy and gluten from her diet has helped Julie realize that she can satisfy her cravings and nutritional desires.    The 7-day shift is not just about your diet, we like to incorporate dry brushing, detox baths, and tongue scraping to help our bodies detox in other ways than the food we eat.  We believe in community and helping hold each other accountable and encourage one another. The 7days is a number that we believe is an attainable time. Essentials for success with the 7-day detox is the life long vitality pack, Terrazyme, PB assists, Zendocrine soft gels, lemon and grapefruit oils for the water, Zendocrine oil and juniper berry are both great for the detox bath. GUEST BIO: Julie Lerman is a Microsoft Regional director, Docker Captain and a long-time Microsoft MVP who now counts her years as a coder in decades.  She makes her living as a coach and consultant to software teams around the world. You can find Julie presenting on Entity Framework, Domain Driven Design and other topics at user groups and conferences around the world. Julie blogs at thedatafarm.com is the author of the highly acclaimed “Programming Entity Framework” books, the MSDN Magazine Data Points column and popular videos on Pluralsight.com. EPISODE DESCRIPTION: Phil’s guest on today’s show is Julie Lerman. She has had a long IT career, of more than 30 years, during which she has worked as a coder and coach. Since 1989, she has worked as an independent consultant. Over the years, she has led software teams in many different countries. She specializes in guiding teams towards re-thinking their software architecture and adapting it to fit in with modern practices. Julie has worked hard to share her knowledge with a wider audience. She has created in-depth training in the Pluralsight library and has written 4 highly acclaimed books about Entity Framework. Her blog, thedatafarm is also a great source of information for developers.   KEY TAKEAWAYS: (00.58) – So Julie, can you expand on that brief introduction and tell us a little bit more about yourself? Julie explains that she spent the first 4 or 5 years of her career working mainly as a programmer for employers. But, about 30 years ago, she decided to go it alone. These days, she focuses mainly on coaching, consulting and mentoring. She uses her decades of IT experience to help all kinds of IT teams to progress. (2.26) – How did you get into coaching, Julie? It is something that just evolved. For many years, she had been teaching people through her sites, books and conference speeches. After a while, people asked her to provide training for their teams. She really enjoyed the process of sitting down with companies and going through their issues and working out how to address them. It is much more effective than public training. However, she does encourage the companies to go through her PluralSight videos, first. If, after doing that, they still have problems or concerns she sits down and helps them to solve their more complex issues. (3.43) – Can you please share a unique career tip with the I.T. career audience? Julie’s most important piece of advice is to take responsibility for your career and further learning. Too many people get stuck in a rut. They just carry on doing the work they are familiar with. Over time, they end up being unaware of what is going on in the wider world. They have very little understanding of the new technologies and how they are being applied. You have to keep up with new developments to be able to make the most of your career. Phil reminds the audience that the company you are working for will only assist you in learning new skills, up to a point. Typically, they will only help you to take your career in a direction that suits the needs of the business. (5.14) – Can you tell us about your worst career moment? For Julie her two worst career moments came when it was time for her to move on to bigger and better things. In both cases, her employers got very angry with her. They both tried to persuade her to stay by offering her a little extra money or the promotion she should have already earned, but not been given. In both cases, she felt that what they were offering was ‘too little, too late’. So, she said thank you, but no. That is when they got really angry and aggressive. In both cases, she had to deal with the men who had been almost father figures to her losing their tempers and berating her just for leaving. For someone in their 20s this was an extremely unpleasant situation. (7.21) – Did you take anything away from that experience, in particular? Julie says that it taught her to trust her instincts. These experiences also made her realize that she had more gumption than she thought. She just stood there and sucked it up, did not argue back and moved peacefully on into a better role. (8.28) – Phil asks Julie about her best career moment, her greatest success. The moment Julie’s first book was delivered to her home and she held it in her hands was a highlight. She felt so proud of what she had achieved. But, Julie is lucky enough to regularly experience smaller moments that also make her feel proud. For example, when she is able to help a developer to understand something they have struggled with.  Another example is when she suggests a little tweak that ends up making a tremendous difference and benefiting lots of people. (9.58) – Can you tell us what excites you about the future of the IT industry and careers? The fact that things are so open-ended right now is something that excites Julie about the IT industry. Things are opening up in new directions all of the time. Thanks to IoT, machine learning, artificial intelligence and big data. The easy availability and effectiveness of this tech are freeing people up to use their talents in new and exciting ways. You no longer have to worry about a long list of little details, when developing. Now, you can focus on the code knowing that the deployment and infrastructure is not an issue. Cloud computing has made things so much easier. It is just one example of how new technology is freeing up developers to achieve more. (12.24) – What drew you to a career in IT? Julie fell into her IT career by accident. When she started college, her plan was to become a chemical engineer. While there she took a programming class. She realized she was something of a natural, so got involved in IT instead of chemistry. (12.59) – What is the best career advice you have ever received? Someone once told her to “praise publically, criticize privately”, which is advice that Julie is careful to follow. (13.23) – If you were to begin your IT career again, right now, what would you do? That is something that Julie has never really thought about before. It is not really in her nature to plan like that. But, she does wish that she had more time to get more deeply involved in machine learning. She also knows that she would still want to be involved in the back end. (14.17) – What are you currently focusing on in your career? Right now, Julie is focused on continuing to learn, to make sure that she stays relevant. She is working to make sure that she pushes herself out of her comfort zone without constantly jumping from one thing to another. Looking for opportunities to share what she learns is helping to do this and cement her knowledge. (15.42) – What is the number one non-technical skill that has helped you the most in your IT career? Julie says that her liberal arts degree has proved to be surprisingly helpful. Taking the course, gave her a head for broad thinking and thinking outside the box. It helped her to develop her creative thinking. These are skills that she has found invaluable during her IT career. (16.19) – Phil asks Julie to share a final piece of career advice with the audience. If you find yourself stuck on a problem, walk away from your computer. Take the dog for a walk or something similar to break the negative cycle. When you do that you can be lucky and find that the solution has been there all the time floating around your head. You mentally go through everything again. Usually, that is when you work out what it is you have missed or a few other things you can do to fix the problem. All you need to do is to give your brain a chance to relax to get a fresh perspective. BEST MOMENTS: (4.14) JULIE – "Take responsibility for your own career and further learning.” (10.16) JULIE – "Things are really opening up in new directions, with IoT, machine learning, artificial intelligence and big data." (11.49) JULIE – "Cloud platforms are enabling developers to do that much more and explore that much further." (14.43) JULIE – "It’s really important for me to stay relevant. In order to do that, I need to keep learning" (16.41) JULIE – "When I am really stuck on a problem, I find walking away from the computer helps so much." Have you ever wondered, “Why do I do the things I do?” For Julie and Roy this question, or the absence of this question, has dramatically shaped their lives in recent history. Julie shared a portion of her story in which she slowly, developed a hatred toward men. She shared how being a social worker and working with a population of people that had been abused in every way imaginable lead her to experience a form of vicarious trauma. This was at the root of the surface manifestation of “hating men”. Roy also shared portions of his story. He explained his struggles with masturbation, pornography, and the like. His constant struggle was something that controlled his life for quite some time. He asked the Lord to take it away and fix him an to his surprise healing did not come in the way he expected. Amidst his struggle, Roy met a man who had been through a similar situation. He saw healing and recovery in his own life. He lead Roy through this healing process and Roy found healing, restoration, and freedom. In a similar type of situation Julie found herself in a program, which to her surprise, lead her to find hope and restoration. Using 1 John 1, Julie and Roy appealed to the fact that in Jesus there is no darkness. For the church, and us as his body we shouldn’t be in fear of bringing things to the light, which is often seen as the first step in the healing process.

You’ve heard of postpartum depression, but have you heard of postpartum psychosis? Do you know the difference and how to recognize the signs and symptoms? We are talking about a very difficult mental condition that can wreak havoc on a new mother, her baby, and her family. Fortunately, there are signs to look for and ways you can help if someone you know might be experiencing this rare condition. In this episode, we are hearing from Tarah, a woman who experienced postpartum psychosis after the birth of her twins. Tarah’s mother, Julie, joins this chat, which is the first mother-daughter duo we’ve had on the show to talk about the postpartum experience. One or two out of 1000 women will experience a postpartum psychosis, and while it’s very rare, it is a serious condition that requires immediate treatment. Most people have been misled to think that postpartum depression and postpartum psychosis are synonymous, but they are not. Psychosis is a break from shared reality and is an emergency situation that looks very different from postpartum depression. Tarah and Julie want people to hear their story so they know what can happen and what to look for. Having them both share their perspectives gives us insight and deepens our understanding of what can happen in a family, what the new mother might experience, and what a family member on the outside might notice. The main point is that information and a strong support system are vitally important in surviving this potentially traumatic experience. Please note that Tarah’s story may be sensitive for some listeners and is not necessarily what all moms with postpartum psychosis experience. Resources for support are available and listed below.    Show Highlights: Tarah married in 2007 and began trying to have a baby in 2009. After Clomid and two miscarriages, she experienced a textbook pregnancy with her twins The twins were born almost 4 weeks early and the postpartum depression began immediately Julie noticed how Tarah didn’t want to hold the babies a lot and seemed disconnected and anxious Three days after the twins were born, Julie noticed that Tarah was not acting normal and took her to the hospital The hospital gave Tarah Xanax and an antidepressant and sent her home, but the symptoms snowballed into psychotic fears and extreme anxiety Two days later, Julie took Tarah for the 2nd visit to the ER and they admitted her to treat her exhaustion Two hours after Julie went home to rest, the hospital called to say Tarah had jumped through a window to escape (she was later found, bleeding, wandering around the parking lot) How one doctor nailed the diagnosis and saved Tarah’s life Tarah was transported to a behavioral health hospital because she thought people were out to hurt her Julie was given the job of strapping her down to the gurney because they thought she would accept it better and not fight against it The next day, discussions began about ECT (electroconvulsive therapy) and heavy medications While Tarah did have ECT as treatment, this is not always used. Everyone's treatment plan looks different. For Julie, these were some of the darkest days of her life Postpartum psychosis happens to 1-2 in 1000 women: 95% of these women manifest symptoms like Tarah did, but about 5% do infanticide while in a psychotic state.   Tarah’s support system to help her and care for the twins The treatment approach of 3 different medications and ECT 3x/week Problems in the hospital unit that prompted Tarah’s move to the senior citizen unit How Tarah was “out of it” for almost 2 weeks, not asking about her babies After about 3 weeks, Tarah finally felt that she was returning to normal After her release, Julie stayed with her for 6 months and Tarah was never left alone with the babies. It took about a year to wean her off the high-powered medications How Tarah’s husband was heartbroken but then relieved to get her back Tarah’s feelings of self-blame, but she knew her situation was out of her control Tarah's story is an example of why we need more Postpartum Mother-Baby hospital units. Mothers need specialized care. Support from parents, in-laws, grandparents, friends, and other family members What Tarah and Julie want you to know: This is a real condition and not made-up Someone you know may need help and not even know it People are not aware of postpartum psychosis as something to look for There are some risk factors that can help you know if you are susceptible to a postpartum psychosis or postpartum bipolar onset. Julie's thoughts on dealing with cancer + motherhood: "I've realized in times like this when you get some hard news or you're having a tough time, a really hard trial in your life, you can either choose to look toward God for help or you can turn away from God. I really made the choice to put all my faith in God and I realized that He has a plan for me and once I kind of submitted myself to Him and said, 'OK, I'm here. What am I supposed to do?' I felt his guidance along the way in everything." - Julie Monroe Show Recap Two years ago, Julie Monroe was a healthy 36-year-old wife and mom to three daughters. Then life threw her a curve ball when she was diagnosed with rectal cancer and everything changed in an instant. In the interview, Julie talks about her positive approach to parenting and how that perspective helped her tell her daughters about her diagnosis when they were only 10, 6 and 4 years old. She shares how motherhood has shifted from wanting to be the "perfect mom" to just focusing on what is truly important. If you've ever felt awkward around someone who was recently diagnosed with cancer or something similar, Julie's gives advice on how to offer help. She also shares how to let people help you if you are the one with a diagnosis. The impact of Julie's cancer has been felt by her entire family. Her family has pulled together to pick up the tasks Julie hasn't been able to perform. This experience has taught her daughters to show more compassion and kindness to others. As a life-saving measure, Julie underwent surgery and received a colostomy bag 2 months ago. Julie was candid and honest about what this means for her day-to-day life. For Julie, it was not her choice to have a colostomy bag for the rest of her life, but it was her choice to be secure about and to embrace it as something that has given her life and the chance to be here for her girls. Overall, Julie's positive approach to her diagnosis of cancer has taught her to say no, let go of what isn't important, and turn to God. She knows we aren't alone. God is always with us. The results are in and I am happy to announce the three winners of our art competition. Take a look at the end of this post for images and links for our second and third place winners. Our first place winner is Julie Beck. Julie is an artist from upstate New York who currently lives and works as an art instructor in Boston. In our conversation, we discuss the benefit of being part of an art community, why it’s important to take risks, how she signs her paintings, and much more! I can’t wait for you to hear from all three of my guests, starting with the talented Julie Beck. What is so great about titling paintings? Maybe you are like me and you really don’t enjoy the process of coming up with a title for your artwork. Then again, maybe you are more like my guest, Julie Beck. Julie loves the process of deciding on a title for her paintings. In fact, Julie talks about the process a bringing a further depth and layer to her artwork. In our conversation, Julie opens up about how she decides on a title and she even shares that she has a list of “Orphaned titles.” What is your process for deciding on a title like? What can you learn from Julie’s process and passion for this task? Why is it important to be connected to an art community? What has been your experience with getting connected to an art community? Have you had good and positive experiences or have you struggled to find your tribe? Artist Julie Beck says that finding a vibrant and robust artist community has had a profound impact on her development and growth as an artist. Julie goes on to share that one of the best ways to break out of a funk or difficult season as an artist is to get around other creative individuals, it doesn’t have to be other artists. I hope artists like you get the chance to connect with a supportive and inspiring art community like Julie has! How taking risks can grow you and help you succeed. Does taking risks come easy to you or do you find it to be difficult? What has informed your relationship with risk? Were you taught to avoid risks or were you taught to chase them? Do you see risks as beneficial or dangerous? My guest, Julie Beck has, at times struggled with taking risks. Her painting that won our contest serves as her evidence that she is fighting her impulse to avoid risks. In our conversation, Julie shared with me how she came to branch out and try something different with this painting. As she describes it, this was a departure for Julie, she usually works in a very controlled and measured process. It was fascinating to hear from Julie’s perspective and how she embraced this scary, vulnerable, and rewarding experience. Make sure to check out the image of Julie’s work that won our contest at the end of this post! The power of reminding yourself that you are a professional artist. What habits have helped you build your confidence and succeed as an artist? Are you still looking for tips and insights that will help you as you grow in your profession? Artist Julie Beck was kind enough to share a helpful practice that might encourage artists like you as try to find ways to stay motivated. For Julie, things started to click for her when she made that decision to take herself seriously as an artist. To keep the momentum going, Julie created a folder on her computer desktop titled, “I am an artist.” As she continued to create and build her portfolio, she would add to that folder, gaining more and more confidence each time. I hope you pick up on the sense of accomplishment and success that comes across from Julie’s story and I hope you find your way to a similar experience! The Boss Mom Podcast - Business Strategy - Work / Life Balance - -Digital Marketing - Content Strategy

Sometimes you come across those people in life who completely blow your mind....and Julie Stoian is one of those people. Julie is a full-time digital marketing consultant and tech coach, web designer and blogger, trainer and teacher, making her mark on the Internet with several blogs and websites. An award winning lifestyle blogger as well, she was chosen as Anderson Cooper's blogger of the day in 2012 and appeared on Anderson Live several times, as well as BBC World Have Your Say. She's been interviewed in the New York Times and Washington Post regarding social media, and runs several successful groups and workshops for entrepreneurs who need help with online tech and strategy. Off the Internet, she is a mom of four (what?!) a musician, foodie, and theater buff. This woman's story is crazy you guys, and I can't wait for you to hear all about her journey and what she's built because I guarantee you'll be inspired, you'll learn a ton and fall in love with her just like I did. So, let's jump in! Listen + subscribe on iTunes // Stitcher   Julie's Boss Mom Journey Julie's boss mom journey begins with her being young, married and having three babies back-to-back. She stayed home with her kids, taught piano, started a blog that became popular, ended up opening a social media management and design business and life was good....until it wasn't anymore. One day Julie found herself in an unfortunate situation where she was getting divorced, newly pregnant (with someone else) and needing to figure out how to pick herself up and push forward through all of it. She married her baby daddy, amicably divorced her ex-husband and the rest is history. From 2014-2016 she did "the hustle," getting a part-time job and building her marketing and sales funnel business up all while being pregnant, getting divorced and raising her three kids. (C-R-A-Z-Y!) As a result of all her hard work and determination to show up and do what needed done, her marketing business exploded and now she's moved into doing more mentorship and coaching for other women who want to do service based businesses like she had. (Oh, and ps - she's now happily married to her post-divorce baby daddy and amicably split from her ex-husband, for those that want to know!) What to Do to Make Building a Business Work Obviously there's a lot that goes into making a business work, and everyone has a unique perspective. For Julie, it was all about just getting in there and doing what needed to be done.  She recognized that in order to bring home the bacon she needed to not get hung up worrying about all the things that often keep business owners stuck (logos, proposals, contracts, etc). “I was under such a tremendous amount of stress to provide for my kids I was literally like, “Go find people with problems and fix them. Like, that’s all I need to do. And then charge money to fix them. I didn’t care about niche, and I didn’t care about official contracts, I just found people with problems and I made friendships and I built relationships and I fixed their problems and then they paid me and then they liked and then they told more people about me.” (9:59) She also dedicated herself to increasing her skillset and learning as many new things as she could to make herself more valuable. Navigating Transitions in Business Julie got her start as a writer and designer, which are two critical skills you need to effectively build sales funnels and do marketing. When she realized those skills work well together she started offering marketing services to her clients (which she still does to this day!) One day one of her clients came to her because she wanted to launch a VA training course and knew all about the business development side, but couldn't offer as much expertise with on the skillset side as Julie. They decided to go in on the venture 50/50 and it ended up doing really well because people were hungry for it. After Julie had her first high-level success earning a client six figures in two weeks with a launch and funnel she'd built, she was officially "on the map" and she started working less with service clients and doing more mentoring and coaching, which is what she primarily does now. Why Do You Need a Funnel? Because the space is so crowded, the internet is so crowded, that if you don’t have a funnel the likelihood of your success is minimal at best. “You have got to put blinders on your leads and the only way to do that is with a sales funnel. A sales funnel is far more important than a website in this moment of the internet, because if someone’s finding you on Instagram and they click on your Instagram bio and they go to your website they’ve got 500 choices. If you put the entrance of your funnel as your Instagram bio, all of a sudden there’s only one thing they can do and that is give you their email address and that is exactly what you need because from there you can show them exactly what they need to do to become your customer.” (25:37) The blinders are because there are so many shiny objects, if you don’t direct your leads where they need to go they won’t get there as easily. “The idea is everyone should be building a brand and a system and a funnel that attracts your ideal customer and repels everybody else.” (27:34) Referenced in the Show: Create Your Laptop Life Digital Gangsta FB Ads Masterclass Digital Gangsta Ontraport SamCart ConvertKit ClickFunnels (Just FYI, some of these links may be affiliate links, which means if you make a purchase using the links I may receive some love in return!)   Sponsor Spotlight: Trello Have you been introduced you to what I call my “work wife” yet?
