Geoff takes us into his process and how the score had to work with the original songs that were part of the film. We discuss finding the right tone and how to navigate between comedy and sentimentality within scores for family films. Geoff also gives us a look into the score for 10 Lives, the animated feature recently premiered at Sundance and sees Geoff co-scoring with Tome Howe. Lastly, we get an amazing update on the immensely anticipated Star Citizen which Geoff has been working on during it's lengthy development as the game tackles an unprecedented approach to its production through crowdfunding, conventions and building a whole community surrounding it. Geoff Zanelli makes his long-awaited Score debut after one of Netflix's most watched animated films of all-time, the Adam Sandler-produced LEO. In this episode, Kenny and Robert discuss the long-awaited arrival of MAESTRO, the Leonard Bernstein biopic, which we discussed on the 2nd episode of SCORE: THE PODCAST back when it was to be directed by Spielberg. Then, Robert and Geoff reminisce about drinking absinthe in Paris, before jumping into the challenge of making Adam Sandler laugh, and the paradox of writing “funny” music in animation. Plus, Geoff talks about his path from music school to being an intern at Hans Zimmer's Remote Control Productions in the early (Lion King era) 1990s, sitting in on Alan Meyerson mixes, and getting his first opportunities while working for John Powell on the movie Face/Off.

In honour of the 4th of July Chris selected an American movie that would be a first watch for Lauren. And he picked one that suits her, because it's all about a horror writer who has gone a bit bonkers. That's right it is the 2004 Stephen King adaptation, Secret Window. Starring Johnny Depp and John Turturro, supported by Timothy Hutton and Maria Bello, it was also written and directed by David Koepp, and includes a musical score by Philip Glass and Geoff Zanelli. In other words, it is as star-studded and talent-filled as a horror movie can get. The film follows Mort, a horror writer who is getting divorced and caught in writer's block wallowing away in a cabin Upstate until a Missouri man names John Shooter shows up to his cabin and insists that Mort stole a story from him. Eerie and Creepy in turn, there is a lot to like about the psychological twists and turns of this film, and it is also quintessentially American, right down to the adorable town with a friendly sheriff.

Sprzyja temu konflikt pomiędzy Meklemburgią a Danią. Mają niemałe sukcesy, zdobywają Bergen i Malmo, Małgorzata w efekcie uwalnia Albrechta. A wśród przywódców prym wiedzie Klaus Störtebeker. To był początek końca bractwa witalijskiego… Audycja zawiera utwory: “Pirates of The Caribean Theme” (w tle), wyk.  Eddie van der Meer muzyka: Hans Zimmer, Geoff Zanelli, Klaus Badelt “Sjørøverne kommer!”, wyk. Our latest guest may be German, but he's clearly something of an Anglophile, having made a Bond film, the Peter Pan inspired Finding Neverland, and now a new take on the British cultural institution that is Winnie The Pooh. Perhaps most importantly, Marc Forster is a total audiophile too!  Marc's Christopher Robin is a delightful live-action addition to the Disney franchise, with Ewan McGregor in the leading role and Jim Cummings, Toby Jones and Sophie Okonedo among those providing the animal voices.  It also features 3 original tunes by Richard Sherman, the legendary Disney songwriter. Christopher Robin is dedicated to composer Jóhann Jóhannsson, who had already started scoring the film when he passed away so unexpectedly at the age of 48. So, at the eleventh hour, Jon Brion and Geoff Zanelli stepped in. You'll hear plenty of their exceptional work throughout the conversation, as well as tracks by Spoon, Muse, Chris Cornell, Wreckless Eric and more.

Emmy-winning composer Geoff Zanelli takes some time to chat about his two recent scores to Killing Kennedy and Christmas In Conway. Killing Kennedy premiered to record numbers becoming the highest rated program to air on National Geographic. Geoff delves into his approach for the film, as well as exploring what's behind the public's fascination with JFK and his story. We talk about how to approach a narrative based on a major historical figure and national tragedy, including how his score needed to flesh out Lee Harvey Oswald. We also chat about Christmas In Conway and how to walk the fine line between heartwarming and overly melodramatic. Christmas movies always come with a whole territory of genre expectations, and Geoff talks about how he faced them. Finally, we go in-depth into Geoff's work on The Lone Ranger as he arranged Rossini's William Tell Overture into one of the best action sequences ever filmed. Geoff talks about breaking the overture down and rebuilding it with director Gore Verbinski and composer Hans Zimmer. Every interview with Geoff shines new light onto his amazing work, and this interview is no different. Enjoy! Emmy-winning composer Geoff Zanelli takes some time to talk about his two recent scores to Mortdecai and The Scorpion King 4: Quest For Power. For Mortdecai we discuss Geoff's continuing collaboration with director David Koepp as well as co-scoring with Mark Ronson. The collaboration with Mark was a unique one, but Geoff found that it reawakened a part of his musical background he hadn't tapped into for a while. We chat about the stylistic approach of a film that draws inspiration from the comedy capers of the 60's, and how it needed to be rooted in modern times. We also discuss the benefits and the hindrances of focus groups, which every film goes through. Geoff shares how on The Scorpion King 4 he learned to let loose and score a B-movie, which only had the intention of being campy and tongue in cheek. The question of "What other job on a film besides a composer would you ever want to do?" is also answered. Geoff was the very first interview ever on Film.Music.Media, and over the past 5 years we have never run out of interesting and fun things to discuss. Enjoy! [Watch the video interview on our YouTube Channel] Geoff Zanelli is one of the most prolific and busy composers working in the industry. He is also one the kindest, hardest working and supremely talented people in this industry and his career is a reflection of that. We sit down to discuss it all, from the early days of cleaning the bathrooms at Media Ventures / Remote Control Productions, becoming John Powell's assistant, and all the way to helming Pirates Of The Caribbean: Dead Men Tell No Tales. Geoff recounts some amazingly fun stories from his films with David Koepp, working with David Duchovny, Into The West, The Pacific, the madness of The Lone Ranger and William Tell Overture, his history on the Pirates Of The Caribbean franchise and more. Geoff was in fact our very first interview ever on Film.Music.Media, so it was an honor to go all out here with this immensely inspiring All Access. Geoff was the first interview ever on Film, Music & Media done via email back in 2009. Now we chat again about his recent score to The Odd Life Of Timothy Green. Geoff tells us his inspirations for the music and what he wanted to achieve with the score. The music is clearly his most personal score yet and everything that he shares in this interview reflects that. Geoff Zanelli has really created a heartfelt and memorable narrative here, and it was a real pleasure to be able to have him back on F.M.M. Geoff shares how fatherhood helped him connect with the story and allowed him to write in his true voice. We also discuss how John Toll's cinematography influenced how he approached the music plus working with director Peter Hedges. It was a real joy to speak to Geoff about this wonderful score.
