In this episode of the Soundcentric Podcast, Adam sits down with Don Chenz for a wide ranging and unfiltered conversation about the current state of hip hop. They break down J. Cole's long awaited album after an eight year tease, debating Disc 1 versus Disc 2, KOD versus Might Delete Later, and whether Cole's technical brilliance sometimes works against him. The discussion expands into the Grammys conversation, including Kendrick Lamar's dominance and whether Tyler, The Creator has become the Academy's new favorite. From there, they dive into producer GOAT debates featuring Alchemist and DJ Premier, the evolving sound of the 2020s, and whether modern rap has become too polished. They also explore marketing in the streaming era, mysterious artist branding, snippet culture, short form versus long form content, and the thrill of discovering artists early like Trevor Spitta, Doechii, and Jack Harlow. It is a passionate and layered discussion about rap nostalgia, algorithms, artistry, and where hip hop is headed next.   Twitter: https://twitter.com/soundcentricmus Instagram:https://https://www.instagram.com/soundcentricmusic/ Tik Tok: https://www.tiktok.com/@soundcentricmusic Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/SoundCentricmusic Website: https://soundcentricmusic.com Podcast: https://www.soundcentricmusic.com   00:00:00 NYC Apartment Studio Setup, Audio Horror Stories & Podcast Production Talk   00:00:50 Welcome to the Soundcentric Podcast + John Wall Dougie Intro   00:02:00 J. A joke about turning our show into a musical opens the door to a night of sharp turns: Broadway memories, Nashville headlines, and a candid look at what AI is doing to songwriting. We talk about that viral “AI artist” with a digital sales hit, why serviceable lyrics still miss the magic of a great hook, and whether writers should be paid when models train on decades of human work. The debate isn't doom and gloom—it's a working songwriter's blueprint for keeping creativity human and credit fair. From there, we zoom out to culture: phones in every pocket, social feeds that reward outrage, and how parents can steer the algorithm instead of being steered by it. Then we address the feedback that we're anti-women. We draw some hard lines—what's fair in elite sports, when representation feels forced, where expertise and safety matter—and ask our female listeners to weigh in so we can feature your takes on the next show. Respect and candor can live in the same room, and we're keeping the door open.We also announce a new project we're excited about: a weekly spotlight on small-town hero stories from across the country. Send us the real stuff—rescue, generosity, quiet acts of grit—and we'll share them, then honor the most impactful story at year's end. We wrap with college football chaos, conference title games that feel like injury traps, and a challenge we'll put on camera this spring: who can still drill a field goal when it counts. If you're into country music, live shows, fair play, and straight talk about AI, social media, and sports, you'll feel at home here. Subscribe, share this with a friend who loves honest conversations, and drop your hero stories and your take on fairness in sports in the comments. Singing the same song is a central part of the worship practice for members for the Cherubim and Seraphim Christian Church in Lagos, Nigeria. Vicki L. Brennan reveals that by singing together, church members create one spiritual mind and become unified around a shared set of values. She follows parishioners as they attend choir rehearsals, use musical media—hymn books and cassette tapes—and perform the music and rituals that connect them through religious experience. Brennan asserts that church members believe that singing together makes them part of a larger imagined social collective, one that allows them to achieve health, joy, happiness, wealth, and success in an ethical way. Brennan discovers how this particular Yoruba church articulates and embodies the moral attitudes necessary to be a good Christian in Nigeria today. Singing Yoruba Christianity: Music, Media, and Morality (Indiana UP, 2018) makes an important contribution to understanding the complex religious landscape of Lagos, which includes various Christian demonstrations and Muslim groups. Its firm grounding in ethnomusicology and media theory will be of interest to any who wish to better understand the intersection of music and religious experience. Dr. Vicki Brennan is a cultural anthropologist and ethnomusicologist who is an Associate Professor in the Religion Department and Director of the African Studies Program at the University of Vermont. Kurt Bardella was a rising star as a staffer for high profile political leaders such as Republican Senator Olympia Snowe from Maine and Republican Congressman Darrell Issa when he famously chaired the House Oversight and Government Reform Committee. During that time, Kurt choreographed the media strategy for investigations related to the 2008 financial crisis, the bailouts of major Wall Street firms and probes into corporate conglomerates such as BP. He later went on to build and lead Endeavor Strategies which represented clients such as Breitbart until early in 2016 when Kurt notably parted ways with this major client on principle after Corey Lewandowski, then Trump's campaign manager, seriously man-handled one of Breitbart's reporters. Since that time, Kurt not only switched party affiliation from Republican to Democrat, he was most recently a Senior Advisor to the Lincoln Project and runs the Country Music media platform, the Morning Hangover. Kurt is also on USA Today's Board of Contributors and an NBC NEWS THINK contributor.
