Nookie-flavored cookies that you stuck up your YEAH…to my knowledge never became a thing, but that doesn't mean the late-90s/early-00s alternative metal band Limp Bizkit wasn't still destined to be a CPG product inventor. Fred Durst and the guys were visionaries, but they needed a big-time partner to make it a reality…and those types of sales cycles take a long time. What am I talking about? 7-Eleven recently unveiled Big Bite Hot Dog Sparkling Water…about 24 years after Limp Bizkit launched its biggest album called “Chocolate Starfish and the Hot Dog Flavored Water.” But just like the album title was intended to sound fictional…the 7-Eleven product launch was just a marketing joke. Although popularity of the stunt has led to the c-store to rethink its availability…no word on if that will coincide with the upcoming Limp Bizkit concert tour. Contrary to popular belief, the pairing for this episode is NOT hot dog flavored water! We had a much classier experience talking about Limp Bizkit with Screeneers because we drank Lime-A-Rita tall boys on a Monday evening. This one is zesty and chaotically charming, plus we'll do some profanity-related math. Fun! Dean Youngblood, a 17-year-old farmhand from rural New York, has dreams of playing in the National Hockey League. Dean voices these dreams to his father who disapproves; however, Dean's brother, Kelly, convinces their father to relent. Dean travels to Canada to try out for the Hamilton Mustangs where he demonstrates his offensive skills but displays a lack of physical toughness. Dean earns the nickname "Pretty Boy" brought on by his rivalry with fellow hockey player Carl Racki. Racki, who is competing for a spot, engages him in a fight and quickly defeats him. Despite this, the Mustangs head coach, a former NHL All-Star, selects Dean for the team. Dean also begins a flirtation with the coach's daughter, Jessie. After his team mentor, Derek Sutton, is deliberately injured by Racki (now with a rival team), Dean returns home. His brother inspires him to keep playing, and his brother teaches him some fighting skills off of the ice, his father teaches him on the ice. Dean returns to the team, ready to confront Racki in the final game of the Memorial Cup playoffs. The game ends with a winning penalty shot goal by Dean with 3 seconds left. As time expires, he confronts and defeats Racki in a fight and is carried off the ice on the shoulders of his teammates.

In this week's episode we are talking about the third album by the amazing artist Limp Bizkit called Chocolate Starfish and The Hot Dog Flavored Water. If you haven't listened to this album yet, DO IT and then tune in to hear what we have to say about it.
Look. No one expected this to ever happen. This band has been a punchline on the show for 20 episodes. But here we are. Comedian Nate Spears pops onto the show this week to have us all bask in the aural glory (glaury?) that is Limp Bizkit's Chocolate Starfish and the Hot Dog Flavored Water. As much of a joke as LB is, we end up having an absolute blast recording this episode, as we get a little stoned and talk about acronyms, dissect the Freudian nature of modern adult cinema, and generally be much too rude for a polite christian music podcast. Ladies and gentlemen! Introducing, the single most in-depth, loving critique of Limp Bizkit's Chocolate Starfish and the Hot Dog Flavored Water. We take a look at a real timestamp of our g-g-generation, an album that your darling hosts grew up with. Is it a joke? Is it lightning-in-a-bottle, never to be equalled? Is swinging on my nuts a f**ked up game? We'll answer this, and a lot more as we take you on (probably) the most focused breakdown of the album, the time and most importantly, Fred Durst. Can you feel it?
back the fuck up while we fuck this track up
We made it to the big 5-0! Wowie, what a ride it's been. Thanks for comin' along with us. For this one, we take a break from the traditional format to discuss a piece of art that has had a huge impact on all our lives: Limp Bizkit's Chocolate Starfish and the Hot Dog Flavored Water. A journey that includes a full review of the record and some digressions into very poor analysis of 21st century music and realizations that we've become the old losers who have some kind of fondness for terrible things. Thanks for rollin' with us so far, seriously. Much love. Shultz's music recommendation: Memorial Day - Demo Drop us a line: thatsoundsfakepodcast@gmail.com

We always say we're back and we're saying it again. This one plucks some heart strings and brings back memories. Please enjoy.
Here's a head scratcher of an album review for you all! No, you read that correctly, on this week's episode, we'll be tackling the album that released at the peak of Limp Bizkit's popularity in the year 2000. Now don't get us wrong, the purpose of this review isn't to make fun of it or talk about how much better we are as music fans for not liking it, this album was one of Mike's guilty pleasure albums and we wanted to take a sincere look at it 20 years later and see if it holds up it any way. This is a strange one, but we hope you enjoy this week's track-by-track review! Also discussed this week, Wil Gould's new band, Salem; Meg Myers' two new upcoming EPs; and we share our thoughts on albums we've been listening over the past two weeks from Movements, Brand New, The Menzingers, Red Hot Chili Peppers, John Frusciante, Alpha Wolf, Agnes Manners, Machine Gun Kelly, and Soundgarden. It's a chunky one this week and we thank you once again for spending some time with us! Ever had "one of those days"? Apparently everyone did in the late 90's. Forefathers of Rap-Rock Limp Bizkit were everywhere in the late 90's and early 00's with hits like Nookie, Break Stuff, Rollin', and My Generation. They even had the fastest-selling rock record at the time. Matt rocked out to the Limp B-I-Z-K-I-T. West and Sydney had never heard them before and listened to the albums "Three Dollar Bill, 'yall" and "Chocolate Starfish and the Hot Dog Flavored Water" to catch up. How do Fred Durst's sick rhymes and Wes Borland's face-melting guitar riffs sound in 2020? And why did that Limp Bizkit vs. Nine Inch Nails beef never take off? --- Support this podcast: https://anchor.fm/late2theparty/support
We finally made it to one year here on the POD Kast, and our two hosts celebrate the occasion the only way they know how: by listening to a little bit of Limp Bizkit. It was 12 months ago when we first launched this podcast with Significant Other, and it makes sense to return to our roots, as we lean heavily into Fred Durst's self-indulgent phase with this one. Released just over a year after Significant Other, Limp Bizkit were legitimately one of the hottest bands in the world, and this album was no exception, though the cracks really begin to show. The boys delve into how this might be LB's best album musically but worst lyrically, Fred's celebrity phase, dating Christina Aguilera, Wes Borland's guitar playing, and how an album with such an absurd title and general message could become as popular as it did. We also see the other side of Wes, as he leaves the band shortly after this album and we speculate about what went wrong. Plus, Bryan explains how this album was the beginning of the end of his love for the nu-metal genre, and John learns that loving Limp Bizkit became really tough once this album dropped. Keep on rollin', baby. If you wanna keep rollin' on to some sweet bonus content, you can donate to the show at https://patreon.com/thepodkast, where $4 a month gets you access to a bonus episode every month as well. It's for when one episode of nu-metal content just isn't enough. We always bring on a special guest to discuss a compilation album with us, and this month, we reviewed the Queen of the Damned OST with Jaya Sundaresh, our first soundtrack and one with a backstory that's so early 00s and SO nu-metal it hurts. Get on it!

We discuss what is expected of a rapper from Jacksonville Florida, which member of Limp Bizkit gave Lady Gaga her style and how many random noises a person can take before they're driven mad. After having a great time discussing the first half of the Year 2000, we're back this week to finish it off as we cover July through December of Y2K. We lead things off with some stories from 2000 including the AOL (remember them?) merger with Time Warner, the first season of Survivor, and the Elian Gonzalez custody drama that had America on the edge of its seat. Jumping into July, we discuss Rage Against the Machine's free concert outside the Democratic National Convention in protest to the two-party system. If you've paid attention since then, not much has changed but they get an "A" for effort. We spin a variety of artists in our coverage of July and August of 2000 including clips from newer groups such as Jack Off Jill and Mudvayne as well as tried and true rockers such as UFO and Motley Crue. We also include a track that slipped our mind during part one but was too good not to include. September saw Rage Against the Machine back in the headlines as bassist Tim Commerford is arrested for climbing on the set of the MTV Video Music Awards after losing the award for Best Rock Video to Limp Bizkit. Who could blame him? We spin polar opposite tracks from David Coverdale and Suicidal Tendencies during this segment (how's that for diversity?) In October, the aforementioned Limp Bizkit released the nausea-inducingly titled Chocolate Starfish and the Hot Dog Flavored Water, selling over a million copies in its first week. My how things have changed since 2000. Covering October, we spin tunes from Fozzy, Hammerfall, Megadeth, Slash's Snakepit, and Over Kill. No Linkin Park being spun on this show. We return from the break to close out the year with a controversial tune released by ever-controversial Marilyn Manson in November. December saw the Backstreet Boys racking up 1.6 million sales in its debut week with Black & Blue. To properly react to that stat, we share a clip from Frankenstein Drag Queens from Planet 13 that sums up our thoughts nicely. Closing out this episode is a great song (one of many other great songs) from the Iommi album that was released in October of 2000. We dug deep once again to give you a nice variety of rock and metal that you may have missed in 2000. If you dig something that you heard on today's show, remember to...... Buy Music!
