Mixed By Tamara Palmer aka Teemoney Words from the artist on this mix: I've been DJing and writing about electronic music for half of the six decades that are covered here in this tribute to innovative women, and I've never heard another mix like this. I would like it to inspire you to delve deeper into the discographies of every featured artist and to appreciate the sense of adventure in the songs as well as the lineage of influence that women have had in this realm from the very beginning of digital production. And to make more mixes like this! Five and a half hours of music went into the digital folder used to make this one-hour set with the help of old-school Technics 1200 turntables and new-school Serato Pro DJ software. Artists from all over the world are on it, but I can feel and hear a singularly unifying grace, toughness, proficiency and joy for experimentation. I study the craft of DJing with Babu at the world-famous Beat Junkies Institute of Sound in Glendale, California, and he often observes that I mix based on emotion. That's certainly true with this set, which I hope infuses every listener with even a fraction of the happiness I now feel after recording it live with love in one take! Kim Kardashian is getting into venture capital, her shapewear company is worth billions, and her family's rebooted show The Kardashians is back for its second season on Hulu. MJ Corey, creator of @kardashian_kolloquium, says Kim is in transition — not decline — and that her influence on the media landscape may soon become stronger than ever. We also ask friends of the show Bobby Finger and Lindsey Weber of Who? Weekly if they are into Adam Levine wanting to name his baby after an Instagram model who is not his wife. On this very special episode*, we get into a change of perspective, misguided notions of friendship, “affluenza,” roaring when necessary, music as a marker of time, and living in 1950s America today. We also cover Pat Buchanan (holy sh!+), the endlessness of momming and chores, tunnels as metaphor for women's lives, the effort of living, saying cruel things to someone, and the need for personal freedom and privacy. Plus, more advice than usual and a wisp of romance to soothe our aching souls. Are you functionally depressed? Grab a barf bag and some smelling salts and settle in. *JK. It's just a standard ep. We think each of them are (is?) special. Just like you. Jazz is all about the contrast between the individual and the collective, and few recordings embody that as beautifully as "Stolen Moments," the opening track from Oliver Nelson's 1961 hard-bop record The Blues and the Abstract Truth. On this episode, Kirk dives deep into Nelson's classic tune, starting with his dense horn arrangement, then considering the three improvised horn solos as distinct creations that reflect the at-times wildly different ambitions of each individual player. Also, there's jazz flute. You take a deep breath, and prepare for a journey with the great genius of musical travel. On this episode, Kirk dives into Björk's 1995 electro-pop masterpiece "Hyperballad," paying special attention to how carefully she weaves together music and lyrics to create a sense of space, and thus a feeling of travel. While we certainly go off the rails from time to time, on our way to discuss Björk's critically acclaimed second full-length album "Post", we ended up with some serial killer talk. Look, we know. There are other podcasts out there that discuss that sort of thing and do it competently. Fortunately, we are in no way competing with them. Joined by Clamshell Case Files' Bridget Crawford, we eventually got on topic and discussed Björk's turbulent 1996, New Bedford native and Dulcimer master Jimmy Couza, a heavy milk drinker on a midnight train, and we round things out with a discussion about cereal. From serial to cereal, we're just doing our best here, ok?

We begin our third collection of musings on queer musos with a deep dive into Andy’s second favourite of all time, Mother Björk. Defiantly impossible to compare to pretty much any other artist, queers the world over have clasped Bjork to their alternative bosoms since her 1993 first album Debut, but what exactly is it about her body of work, visual language and legacy that appeals so directly to so many queer fans?Drew and Andy take her commercial and critical peak, 1997’s Homogenic, as a starting point for a journey attempting to answer those questions, inevitably coming across many more along the way. Are the rewards worth the listening experience’s challenges? How much yarn can a drag queen unravel from her breasts? Why is there an Iceland supermarket in Iceland? This episode’s companion playlist features all the songs we discuss, and serves as a nifty introduction to Björk herself if that is what you seek. MUSIKER, ARTIST, POET, 43 år. Född i Hjärup. Kraftwerk - Radioactivity 2.
