Amanda Troxler has been practicing family formation law since 2013. She represents hundreds of Intended Parents, Donors, and Surrogates a year. Additionally, Amanda has personal experience in third party assisted reproduction, having been an egg donor. In today's show we are going to explain what family formation law is. As a fertility patient, it's important that you understand some of the basic legal pieces that you might want to have in place for your journey, whether that be for IVF, or if you're going to be using donor eggs, donor sperm, or using a gestational carrier. I very much love Amanda's thoughtful and caring approach to making family formation law approachable. As she says, “healthy families are formed through honest communication and centering the needs of the future child." Amanda received her J.D. from UCLA law on a Dean's Merit Scholarship in 2012. She received her Bachelor of Arts degree from Northwestern University in 2008. Kristin and her husband, Steve, started a non-profit organization in honor of their daughter, London Quinn, who was born still at 39 weeks in July, 2021. They named the organization "London is the Reason," and the non-profit focuses on supporting surrogates and their intended parents through infant loss. I feel quite privileged to have Kristin share her story, and the story of her daughter London with us. I know you will be moved by what she shares. We will be talking about her diagnosis of stage four endometriosis, how she learned about surrogacy, and how she, her husband and their gestational carrier navigated through the loss of London last year. She will also share additional resources for anyone experiencing loss as a surrogate and intended parent. And, you can learn more about “London is the Reason,” and how to get involved. You may know Kristin McQuaid is a choreographer, dancer, designer, creative director, director, and producer. Her work has gone viral on "You Think You Can Dance," and "Dance Moms." In episode #309 of The Hormone Puzzle Podcast, our guests Tia Calderon and Joy Millan, talk about What Is a Surrogate Journey vs an Intended Parents Journey. More about Joy and Tia: Joy is the founder and CEO of Joy of Life. With a professional background as a fertility clinician, she has spent thousands of hours working with surrogates and intended parents alike. As a mother of two, she often wished for more support and a deeper commitment to care for those embarking on non-traditional family-building journeys. This is why she established Joy of Life: to create a more robust, compassionate experience in parenthood for both parties involved with surrogacy. In 2021, she stepped back from daily operations at Joy of Life to fight cancer. Fortunately, the combined 20 years of experience from her incredible team has allowed her to focus on her health & recovery. She continue to provide company guidance and serve as the head liaison for our network of doctors, clinicians and caregivers. Tia is the Sales and Marketing manager of Joy of Life. She ensures every surrogate and intended parent has access to important resources and a comprehensive care network to support their journey. Welcome to the latest episode of The F Word at Work coming to you for National Fertility Awareness Week 2023. We're really excited to be able to share something that has been shaped by our hard work within the workplace wellbeing space over the last two years as we've really gained a lot of knowledge from the many conversations we've had with organisations looking to implement support and the range of policies we've now seen, so to mark the week we've launching a brilliant new download for you to use to shape your workplace policy and our three co-founders Becky, Natalie and Claire have a chat about it. We also caught up with Fran Steyn, VP of Clinical at Peppy healthcare about new research they are sharing for the week about the impact fertility issues have on people's working life. What was discussed: What you can expect from our policy guidance document - Claire talks about how she approached it from the patient as well as an HR ProfessionalOur aim was to give people a boost in their understanding How this should help HR have an honest conversation with employees - to ask them what they needWe hope organisations can use it to put their own stamp on itStats included to ensure people understand the scale of this conversation Key for managers, HR or the person going through it - that if the policy isn't relevant, isn't inclusive, doesn't validate what you are going through how that will impact your first reaction as to whether you feel your organisation will support you to encourage disclosureLived experience can help the document in terms of tone and really helps it come to life - when this hasn't been the case we've had to give feedback on the lack of warmth and empathy and the policy can be too formalPeople will want to know what they are entitled too - yet the sensitive nature of the topic means it's important to compose this in a sensitive and considered way, so its holistic Be aware of cold language for this topic - it's essential for this life event, like you would approach policies aboutInclusive policies are key - ensuring Intended Parents are referred to in policy, be careful about referring to those going down the surrogacy route that they're not signposted to the Adoption policy. Understand who is impacted by Surrogacy How to support the Childless not by Choice community - recognise that fertility treatment doesn't always result in a baby. Ensure that those people are recognised in terms of their experiences and signposted to support. Making provisions clear in terms of leave for appointments and will it be paid, ensure practical elements are includedHard to say average amount. We've seen a variety of days given and we advise there to be some flexibility that it doesn't just have to be in days but it can also be in hours. There can be non-financial things done as well. Peppy Findings aimed to highlight what was going in terms of access - in relation to the cost of living crisis, the stresses within the access to funding on the NHS and the impact on people's lives. More people are aware of fertility issues and how that's not just about IVF but also PCOS and Endometriosis and

Welcome to the 17th episode of Season 4 of the Fertility Conversations Podcast. Today we are joined by a lovely guest; Jessica Williams. . Jessica was born and raised outside Chicago, Illinois, but moved to England in 2007 to pursue a master's degree. For many years, Jessica worked in heritage and museums. Her interests always gravitated towards family and children – her dissertation for her PhD in archaeology explored how we can discover more about children's lives in the ancient past. . When Jessica and her husband began trying to have their own family, it was not easy for them. Following many years of infertility, exploratory surgeries, miscarriages, and failed IVF, she and her husband decided to turn to surrogacy using the agency; Family Source Consultants. . Like many people who have lived with infertility, Jessica became passionate about wanting to help others in similar circumstances as well as become an advocate for how safe, ethical, and compassionate surrogacy journeys can be. . Instead of going back to museums after her maternity leave ended, she joined to Family Source Consultants to support other Intended Parents. She is now the International Relations Manager at Family Source Consultants, and feels incredibly privileged to play a small role in helping Intended Parents from all over the world grow their own families through surrogacy. . In todays episode, Jessica joins us to share her fertility journey and to provide more insight into Family Source Consultants and how they can assist individuals & couples trying to conceive. . Amanda is a member of the Academy of California Adoption-ART Lawyers (“ACAL”), Society for Ethics in Egg Donation and Surrogacy (“SEEDS”), and American Society of Reproductive Medicine (“ASRM”). The numbers of couples choosing to have children via surrogate mothers has been steadily rising in recent years. Now, the UK authorities are considering plans for a radical overhaul of the laws around surrogacy, making it more heavily regulated but also reversing certain presumptions around legal parenthood. In this episode we discuss why surrogacy is gaining in popularity, the pros and cons of the proposed reforms, and whether Christians should endorse surrogacy as a good way to start families. - We previously discussed this issue on an episode of Premier's Unbelievable podcast https://www.premierunbelievable.com/unbelievable/the-surrogacy-industry-john-and-tim-wyatt-on-the-ethics-of-paying-for-pregnancy/12955.article - Tim also wrote an article last year exploring the issue in depth https://www.premierchristianity.com/features/wombs-for-rent-can-christians-really-support-surrogacy/13184.article - The Law Commission report on surrogacy reforms https://s3-eu-west-2.amazonaws.com/lawcom-prod-storage-11jsxou24uy7q/uploads/2023/03/LC_Surrogacy_Summary_of_Report_2023.pdf - Subscribe to the Matters of Life and Death podcast: https://pod.link/1509923173 - If you want to go deeper into some of the topics we discuss, visit John's website: http://www.johnwyatt.com - For more resources to help you explore faith and the big questions, visit: http://www.premierunbelievable.com

Today, I'm so honored to have Kristin McQuaid joining me to talk about a very touching and powerful topic: support for surrogate mothers and intended parents through infant loss. Her work has gone viral on "You Think You Can Dance," and "Dance Moms." She now stars in her own reality show, "Kickin' it with Kristin," which launched on YouTube in Fall of 2021. Thank you for joining me, Kristin! Most people say "Oh, I had good parents." Then I ask, "Oh, did you tell your parents about you getting bullied?" They laugh and say, "No, I can't tell them anything like that." WHY NOT? Because it wasn't the place for that. But, guys, isn't that sad? This started my life-long journey to know what it means to be a parent that gives my children a childhood where they can be children. In this episode, I share what I observe in my life (and those around me) and in my practice. I know that parents rarely intentionally withhold safety and support, but their focus was MISPLACED. If you can hear this episode and make you RECONSIDER a few things about your parenting OR even your own childhood, I would consider it job-well-done. Now, let's dig deep to know what parents were SUPPOSED to focus on. #parenting #mentalhealth #generationaltrauma #love #support #podcast #psychiatrist #children #childrenmentalhealthSUBSCRIBE!LEAVE A REVIEW!SHARE THIS EPISODE!**Disclaimer: This site's content is not intended to diagnose or treat any disorders but rather for informational, educational, and empowerment purposes. Sensory overload. It occurs when one or more of our senses is overstimulated, taking in too much information for our brains to process. Pre-parenthood this wasn't a big deal, because we had the benefits of rest, quiet, and time on our side. But in motherhood... we now process that input MUCH differently and the shift happens fast! In this episode, Jacqueline shares five ways to cope with sensory overload when mom-life gets a little too overwhelming.Want to connect with like-minded women who are getting real about what it takes to be a mom? Welcome to the first episode of The F Word at Work for 2023, where all three co-founders Natalie, Becky and Claire have come together to reflect on what was an epic 2022, and to tell you bit about what is in store in 2023 and why becoming fertility friendly should be a key part of your wellbeing strategy with good reason. When we're talking about paid time off and people needing to go to appointments, we're not asking for days and days meaning an organisation isn't going to be able to function, we're talking about flexibility. There's already a cost to business as if people are going to go through it whether they can get paid time off or not. Amanda is a member of the Academy of California Adoption-ART Lawyers (“ACAL”), Society for Ethics in Egg Donation and Surrogacy (“SEEDS”), and American Society of Reproductive Medicine (“ASRM”).
