Warm up the water in your tiny tin bathtub and pull out your pastel pedal pushers hat as we bebop into John Waters's Cry-Baby. Did Waters achieve the ultimate level of Postmodern metatextual campiness by creating a pastiche of his own film style here? Can the power of a quality goth accessory really change hearts and minds? Is this perhaps the best Willem Dafoe cameo ever? And is Kim McGuire, aka "Hatchet-Face", basically the biggest badass who ever lived? We'll let you know after this sloppy, sloppy make-out session.

A trailblazing figure in film and popular culture, Netherlands native Sylvia Kristel became one of the biggest stars in the world as Emmanuelle in 1974. Alongside her most famous role, directed by Just Jaeckin, a little-known fact is that Sylvia Kristel also appeared in over 20 films between 1973 and 1981 featuring exceptional work with some of the greatest directors in film history including Walerian Borowczyk, Alain Robbe-Grillet, Roger Vadim and Claude Chabrol. Now the story of Sylvia's astonishing career in the '70s is told in Sylvia Kristel: From Emmanuelle to Chabrol (Cult Epics, 2022). Featured are new interviews with Just Jaeckin, Pim de la Parra, Robert Fraisse, Joe Dallesandro and Francis Lai among others. Sylvia Kristel: From Emmanuelle to Chabrol is a film-by-film guide to one of the most distinctive and uncompromising careers in modern cinema, and a celebration of a most remarkable woman in a fully illustrated coffee-table book written by author Jeremy Richey. A recollection of Sylvia Kristel's most exciting period as an actress. Beginning with her early Dutch film roles in Frank & Eva, Because of the Cats, and Naked over the Fence, this book covers all 22 movies Sylvia starred in between 1973 and 1981 including the European films Emmanuelle, Julia, No Pockets in a Shroud, Playing with Fire, Emmanuelle II, Une Femme fidele, La Marge, Alice, Rene the Cane, Goodbye Emmanuelle, Pastorale 1943, Mysteries, Tigers in Lipstick, The Fifth Musketeer, Love in First Class, Lady Chatterley's Lover, and the American films The Concorde.... Airport '79, The Nude Bomb, Private Lessons, plus a chapter on the unmade films, dozens of iconic roles that she was offered but declined written with in-depth detail. Sylvia Kristel: From Emmanuelle to Chabrol also contains many vintage reviews and interviews with Sylvia Kristel never before translated into English, and takes a look at Sylvia's brief music recording career as well. Jeremy R. Richey is a film and music historian and writer originally from Kentucky. The creator of the long-running blogs Moon in the Gutter and Fascination: The Jean Rollin Experience, Richey was also the publisher of the print-only journals Art Decades and Soledad. On a brand new episode of WILD IN THE STREETS, we're going One Step Beyond with Warhol superstar Joe Dallesandro in the sleaze-filled home invasion thriller MADNESS from director Fernando Di Leo. Featuring plenty of uncomfortable nudity and most of the soundtrack to Caliber 9, MADNESS has hunky Joe terrorizing a married couple (along with the wife's seductress sister) while trying to uncover some stolen riches stashed in their fireplace. All that, a giant poster of John Travolta that looms menacingly over the proceedings. Is it any good? Listen and find out!

Happy Halloween! This week, the girls do a special double feature of Andy Warhol's FLESH FOR FRANKENSTEIN and BLOOD FOR DRACULA, both of which are really by Paul Morrisey. They dish about all things Joe Dallesandro, Udo Kier, Candy Darling, Holly Woodlawn, and Factory. Unfortunately, Roman Polanski comes up, too. Along the way: a Halloween Ends rant, Dracula 2000 and its sequels, Virgin Megastores and Vitamin C, My Bloody Valentine remake, The House of Psychotic Women boxset by Severin, Footprints on the Moon, I Like Bats, Identikit, and The Otherside of Underneath. Also some David Bowie sadness. CONTENT WARNING! This episode contains a conversation about two graphic exploitation movies full of violence, sexual violence and other depravity, and the conversation does not stray away from these subjects. Listener discretion is advised. In this episode of the show we are joined by our good buddies Kevin and Erin, hosts of The Podcast That Wouldn't Die, to talk about two movies directed by Paul Morrisey and starring Udo Kier, Flesh For Frankenstein and Blood For Dracula. Over the course of our conversation you will hear us wonder whether these folks knew how to make movies, whether they aimed to take inspiration from softcore pornography and whether anyone should pay attention to any and all social commentary embedded within their narratives. We also take stock of Udo Kier's career, wonder why Joe Dallesandro had one to begin with, marvel at the gross-out violence on display and even postulate that a certain Monty Python movie may have ripped off the iconic ending of Blood For Dracula. This week! Claire Denis' Trouble Every Day. From wiki: "Shane and June Brown are an American couple honeymooning in Paris in an effort to nurture their new life together, a life complicated by Shane's mysterious and frequent visits to a medical clinic where cutting edge studies of the human libido are undertaken. When Shane seeks out a self-exiled expert in the field, he happens upon the doctor's wife, another victim of the same malady. She has become so dangerous and emotionally paralyzed by the condition that her husband imprisons her by day in their home. It is Shane's chance encounter with this woman that triggers an event so cataclysmic and shocking it might just lead him to rediscover the tranquility he seeks to restore for himself and his new bride." But first! The ghost of Paul Lynde and the greatness of Bye Bye Birdie. the Haunting of Drusilla and ghosts traveling through mirrors, Drusilla watched Chilly Scenes of Winter. Josh watched Birdemic: Shock and Terror and Possession from 1981. Then they get into the feature, Claire Denis' Trouble Every Day. Content warning: this film contains sexual assault and stars Vincent Gallo. Drusilla isn't the biggest fan of Denis' work or this movie while Josh likes it a little more. They discuss the complicated legacy of Vincent Gallo who was once very cool (Buffalo 66! Brown Bunny! was in a band with Jean-Michele Basquiat!) and became very much not that. Dru loves Beatrice Dalle. Josh was marked by the 90s and that sucks. Johnny Rotten sucks now, too. They discuss the plot and whether or not the movie is sexy. Josh thinks Vincent Gallo is a good actor, but Dru compares him to Joe Dallesandro. Vincent Gallo doesn't understand his lines? They discuss the aesthetics and music of the film. Things shot on digital video are kind of blech. They like the Tindersticks song, though. There are a few cliche art film scenes in this. Josh compares this to Daughters of Darkness, Dru compares it to Comfort of Strangers. They debate the way the film presents bodies and sex and also the way vampires work in this. They compare it to Cronenberg's Crash as well but Crash is a bottom and this is a top. Also, the fucking COMIC SANS OF IT ALL!!! Then they play Have They Seen It? Next week the duo is watching Alex Garland's Men. What happens if you put Joe Dallesandro and his pals in a cage? They turn savage, that's what! What happens if you put Rod and Adrian near a microphone? They start talking making podcasts! It's almost the same. In this episode we get to explore Turin with three bored friends hellbent on causing chaos and destruction. Is there nothing they won't do? Eurovision also gets a mention, and Adrian keeps banging on about his holiday. Sorry about that.We would love to hear from you if you have any favourite Poliziotteschi films. Hoy escucharemos de Lou Reed, Walk on the Wild Side.

This week, join us as we discuss a true grindhouse double feature: Andy Warhol's Flesh for Frankenstein and Blood for Dracula. Both of director Paul Morrisey's films use the same crew and cast and offer radically different takes on these works of classic literature. They're probably as high-brow as we'll get here on Video Store Nightmares. On this episode: the sexual allure of Joe Dallesandro, Udo Kier's histrionics, a gall-bladder fetish, Serbian ideals, incestual marriage, virgin meat, vegetarianism and the merits of socialism in the face of vampiric aristocracy.
In this episode all the ICBD boys do a little snus and talk about everything from disney bounding to Joe Dallesandro's large role in music history.

The Video Nasties A-Z with Death By DVDcontinue : FLESH FOR FRANKENSTEIN (1973) & FOREST OF FEAR aka TOXIC ZOMBIES (1980) discussed as we further our mission to review EVERY SINGLE Video Nasty in order!! FLESH FOR FRANKENSTEIN : Baron Frankenstein creates two "zombies" - one male, one female - planning to mate them in order to create a master race. FOREST OF FEAR aka TOXIC ZOMBIES : After drug crops are sprayed with a chemical by a passing airplane, the growers of the crop are poisoned by the chemical and turn into zombie-like mutants.
Critical Condition, released January 16th, 1987, is a Richard Pryor vehicle that is perhaps the most January-esq comedy we've ever done, in that it's not funny, has boring characters, nothing really happens, and was most likely dumped in January because it was bound to be a flop if released in any other month. We forced our guest Jacob Sacher (Paul Noodle PhD Candidate / Mr Yes and Mr No) to talk about it with us! This week, The Cultists Present, John Waters' Cry-Baby (1990). Inarguably the most mainstream and accessible of Waters' oeuvre, Cry-Baby's technicolor array of costumes, camp performances, and impeccably mixed sound still bears all the markings of John Waters' loveably perverse and whacky soul. In a charming parody tale of 1950s cinema nostalgia, Cry Baby Walker—the matchstick chewing, leather clad “Drape” who can only ever cry that one lonely tear drop—has met a girl. The only hurdle between their atomic-defying love? Dead, homicidal parents; jealous, sociopathic and marriage obsessed boyfriends; and a long stint in Juvie. Oh, and she's also a square. Deep Dives Include: Waters' personal childhood influences on the film; the immeasurable importance of Bob Mizer's photography; that jaw-dropping eclectic cast (from Traci Lords to Joe Dallesandro, to Iggy Pop to Patty Hearst); and the 1950s film homages that pop up throughout.) Episode Safeword: “mass-appeal”

The gang dives into the gall bladder and drinks the blood of wirgins in this episode, a look at Paul Morrissey’s Flesh For Frankenstein and Blood For Dracula; two gory, highbrow arthouse exploitation flicks that are curiously missing Andy Warhol despite his above-the-title credit but are abundant with the inspired wackiness of Udo Kier, Joe Dallesandro, and Arno Jürging amid ravishing landscapes and incredible locations. Joe Dallesandro became famous as a shaggy-haired blond Adonis in the iconoclastic and transgressive Andy Warhol-produced films Flesh, Trash, and Heat, in which he helped to rewrite the rules for onscreen sexuality. He's name-checked in "Walk on the Wild Side," Lou Reed's most famous song, and that's Joe's pair of jeans on the cover of the 1971 Rolling Stones record Sticky Fingers. But, as he tells host Alec Baldwin, Dallesandro just wanted to run a pizza place. That was before a series of left turns brought him to the attention of one of the twentieth century's most influential taste makers — even if "Little Joe" didn't have a clue who Andy Warhol was at the time.
