The sequel to the very underrated Kick-Ass, but does the sequel live up to the first one?

After Kick-Ass' insane bravery inspires a new wave of self-made masked crusaders, led by the badass Colonel Stars and Stripes, our hero joins them on patrol. When these amateur superheroes are hunted down by Red Mist -- reborn as The Mother F%&*^r -- only the blade-wielding Hit Girl can prevent their annihilation. When we last saw junior assassin Hit Girl and young vigilante Kick-Ass, they were trying to live as normal teenagers Mindy and Dave. With graduation looming and uncertain what to do, Dave decides to start the world's first superhero team with Mindy. Unfortunately, when Mindy is busted for sneaking out as Hit Girl, she's forced to retire-leaving her to navigate the terrifying world of high-school mean girls on her own. With no one left to turn to, Dave joins forces with Justice Forever, run by a born-again ex-mobster named Colonel Stars and Stripes. Just as they start to make a real difference on the streets, the world's first super villain, The Mother F%&*^r, assembles his own evil league and puts a plan in motion to make Kick-Ass and Hit Girl pay for what they did to his dad. But there's only one problem with his scheme: If you mess with one member of Justice Forever, you mess with them all.

Three years after the successful R rated superhero movie Kick-Ass was a surprise hit, the follow-up was released with an expanded cast including Jim Carrey. Unfortunately the movie made significantly less at the box office and failed to impress critics. But this week we take a second look at this violent and crude sequel to discover what works! Welcome to episode 38, Kick-Ass 2 where we wonder how we get an hour and 45 minutes of our life back.   This crew has the worst names in the history of superheroes. What is going on with all of Chloe Grace Moretz's wigs? Why was she only 15?  And how and why was she invited to that bizarre sleepover? THERE'S NO ROOM FOR PUNKS IN SUITS! Just real heroes who can really kick ass... again, while trying very hard to keep the franchise edgy and fresh.  The original Kick Ass director, Matthew Vaughn, handed this installment off to Katie Curic's nephew? but our cast is bolstered by Jim Carrey, John Leguizamo, and can we really ever get enough of Chloë Moretz swearing and beating the hell out of dudes?! New heroes, new villains, new expectations to overcome in this ultra fan boy franchise sequel. If the appeal of the original Kick Ass was it's irresponsible father leading hyper violent, super obscene, underage heroes to vigilante justice but your sequel lacks the father and your heroes no longer appear underage, then how do you keep the violence and obscenity edgy enough to satisfy? (...inventions like the "sick-stick") What do you call an independent B story that does not crisscross the A story but executes the same theme? (A structural nightmare... and in the end, you call it a second A story in the middle of a film that's not supposed to be multi-plot.) How did the film differ from the Graphic Novel? What's the most obscene word a teenage girl can say? And how do we really feel about McLovin' in S&M attire? At the end of the first Kick-Ass film Red Mist plotted his revenge while Kick-Ass enjoyed high school with girlfriend Katie and Hit Girl, orphaned with the death of Big Daddy, had to adjust to normal high school life under the watch of new guardian Marcus.
