Last but certainly not least of our Nimona interviews is Eugene Lee Yang who chats about early representation (shout out to the Mighty Morphin Power Rangers), casting against type, and queer love stories. More about Nimona When Ballister Boldheart, a knight in a futuristic medieval world, is framed for a crime he didn't commit, the only one who can help him prove his innocence is Nimona, a mischievous teen with a taste for mayhem — who also happens to be a shapeshifting creature Ballister has been trained to destroy. But with the entire kingdom out to get him, Nimona's the best (or technically the only) sidekick Ballister can hope for. And as the lines between heroes, villains, and monsters start to blur, the two of them set out to wreak serious havoc — for Ballister to clear his name once and for all, and for Nimona to…just wreak serious havoc.    Directed by Nick Bruno and Troy Quane, NIMONA is an epic tale about finding friendship in the most surprising situations and accepting yourself and others for who they are. Based on the National Book Award-nominated, New York Times best-selling graphic novel by ND Stevenson. Starring: Chloë Grace Moretz, Riz Ahmed, Eugene Lee Yang, Frances Conroy, Lorraine Toussaint, Beck Bennett, Indya Moore, RuPaul Charles , Julio Torres, Sarah Sherman Nimona is out streaming now on Netflix. Working with these creative forces, he infused the magazine's pages with elegant and timeless features, including recreations of French Impressionist paintings at the celebrated Hotel Plaza Athénée Paris; homages to Christian Dior and Babe Paley; and a cover shoot with actress Julianna Margulies by Demarchelier at the Hotel du Cap in the Côte d'Azur. The strategy successfully transitioned Watch from a publication to a brand encompassing print, television, online, video and social media. The pivot to luxury editorial also helped attract labels such as Tom Ford, YSL, Giorgio Armani, Dior, Givenchy, Salvatore Ferragamo, Valentino, Hugo Boss, Four Seasons, Ritz-Carlton and Peninsula hotels as advertisers. Before CBS, Murphy worked as a reporter at Mediaweek, where he covered the nation's top 50 markets. He began as a feature writer with Knight Ridder newspapers. In 2010, Murphy was inducted into the Florida Atlantic University Alumni Hall of Fame. --- Support this podcast: https://anchor.fm/bella-mag/support

This is my review of Escape Room: Tournament of Champions, the sequel to Escape Room. It's psychological horror film directed by Adam Robitel and written by Will Honley, Maria Melnik, Daniel Tuch, and Oren Uziel that stars Taylor Russell and Logan Miller reprising their roles from the first film, alongside new cast members Indya Moore, Holland Roden, Thomas Cocquerel, and Carlito Olivero. The premise is: after surviving a series of harrowing, deadly escape rooms designed by Minos Escape Rooms Corporation, Zoey and Ben are determined to bring it to justice for the personally witnessed deaths of those who hadn't survived them. On their way to confront Minos in New York City, they are unexpectedly trapped with several other survivors of other escape rooms. They must all work together to get through yet another gauntlet of Minos' more elaborate and dangerous escape rooms if they are to have any hope of putting a stop to its murderous games once and for all. Happy Wine Wednesday!  Award winning journalist Abbey White is back this week to bid a fond farewell to the FX series Pose.  We kick things off with our thoughts on the unexpected announcement that the series was coming to an end.  We then share our overall impressions of the final season.  We loved ALL things Elektra, but did not love some of the pacing issues created by the reduction of episodes.Series co-creator Steven Canals said that in mapping the final season out, the writers looked back to the dreams of the main characters identified in season 1 and essentially set out to make those dreams come true in the final season.  With that in mind, we walk through the final chapter in each character's arc and share our thoughts on where they ultimately landed.Next, we discuss our favorite episodes and musical cues.  We also share our MVPs of the series.  No discussion of Pose would be complete without discussing our thoughts on Pose's chances for long overdue awards season recognition and why the few nominations the show gets seem to all go to Billy Porter. The episode closes with our thoughts on Pose's legacy and the actors who made us thirsty. Follow us on Twitter and Instagram at @MoreWinePod! This week we are discussing three progressive shows on Netflix and Hulu that showcase inclusivity, LGBTQ issues, women’s empowerment, sex positivity and representation. If you are one of those people who say, “there’s nothing to watch,” this episode is for you! We start off with Ryan Murphy’s Netflix original drama, Pose, which spotlights the legends, icons, and fierce house mothers of New York City’s African-American and Latino underground LGBTQ and gender-nonconforming ballroom culture scene in the 1980s and early 90s. The show features the largest cast of transgender actors in series regular roles, including MJ Rodriguez, Dominique Jackson, Indya Moore, Hailie Sahar and Angelica Ross. The show premiered on FX and received critical acclaim and numerous award nominations for the Golden Globes, and Emmys. Many of the characters either battle with HIV/AIDS or know someone dying of the disease. Pose exposes the terrible conditions of these patients and the stigma surrounding their diagnosis. We became obsessed with this show for its portrayal of such heavy matter, done in a beautiful and moving production style. Next we discuss She’s Gotta Have It, a daring story of a sex-positive woman, Nola Darling (played by DeWanda Wise) and her three lovers based on the film by Spike Lee. The series displays her struggle to stay true to herself and fulfill her dreams while juggling her personal life. She fights misogyny and uses her artistic gifts to create anti-catcalling posters. The show openly supports the Black Lives Matter movement, and features a mostly Black cast. We loved the show’s racial and sexual message, along with its unique directional approach. Lastly, we talk about The Bold Type, a must-watch for women’s empowerment. The show is based on real-life former Cosmopolitan editor-in-chief Joanna Coles, and she serves as executive producer for the show. Although the show fictionalizes the magazine name as and highlights fictional characters, the empowering environment is based on reality. The series chronicles the lives of three millennial women, Jane Sloan (Katie Stevens), Kat Edison (Aisha Dee), and Sutton Brady (Meghann Fahy) who are employed at the fictional global publication called Scarlet in NYC under Jacqueline Carlyle (Melora Hardin). We hope you enjoy this episode and check out the Pose, She’s Gotta Have it, and The Bold Type. Popcorn Junkies Movie Reviews

Queen & Slim is a 2019 American romantic crime drama film directed by Melina Matsoukas (in her feature directorial debut) and written by Lena Waithe, from a story by James Frey and Waithe. The film stars Daniel Kaluuya, Jodie Turner-Smith, Bokeem Woodbine, Chloë Sevigny, Flea, Sturgill Simpson and Indya Moore. The plot follows two African-Americans who go on the run after killing a police officer during a traffic stop gone wrong. Queen & Slim had its world premiere at the AFI Fest on November 14, 2019 and was theatrically released in the United States on November 27, 2019, by Universal Pictures. It received generally positive reviews from critics and has grossed $44 million. Slim and Queen's first date takes an unexpected turn when a policeman pulls them over for a minor traffic violation. When the situation escalates, Slim takes the officer's gun and shoots him in self-defence. Now labelled cop killers in the media, Slim and Queen feel that they have no choice but to go on the run and evade the law. When a video of the incident goes viral, the unwitting outlaws soon become a symbol of trauma, terror, grief and pain for people all across the country. --- Send in a voice message: https://anchor.fm/popcorn-junkies/message

And the category is...Pose, Season 1! Come listen to us discuss this hit drama about the queer community and drag balls during the late 1980s, centering on the lives of 5 trans women, played by actual trans actresses of color. Starring MJ Rodriguez, Indya Moore, Dominique Jackson, Hailie Sahar, Angelica Ross and Billy Porter, the show looks at the fantasies, dreams and lives of trans women and people of color as they navigate the difficult paths of performativity, sex work, love and found family. Two phenomenal artist-activists for social justice and the human rights of trans, nonbinary and gender nonconforming (GNC) folks, Ianne Fields Stewart and Maybe Burke, join us to talk about the pervasive experiences of sexual violence and gender oppression within their communities, and ideas that help support healing. Ianne Fields Stewart is a Black queer nonbinary transfeminine New York-based storyteller working at the intersection of theatre and activism. Their work and she are dedicated to interrupting the exclusivity of luxury by making things like entertainment, nourishment, and self care accessible to the most marginalized in their community. In a world that is constantly traumatizing Black bodies she believes that Black queer and trans people should have the space and time to center collective emotional, physical, and sensual pleasure. Ianne is also the founder of The Okra Project which hires Black Trans chefs to cook healthy and culturally specific meals for Black Trans People in their homes or community centers if they’re experiencing homelessness. Most recently, Ianne was named by Gay Star News as one of the 21 non-binary artists including Ezra Miller and Indya Moore who are redefining gender.Maybe Burke s a New York based actor, writer, and human rights advocate interested in telling the stories that haven't been told. Their work has been seen at Joe's Pub, Lincoln Center, Cherry Lane Theatre, Ars Nova, New Dramatists, HERE Arts Center, The NYC LGBTQ Center, and more. Their solo show, Love Letters to Nobody, received the 2017 Fresh Fruit Spirit Award for Fostering Pride, Survival, History, and Progress and earned them a nomination for the 2018 Doric Wilson Independent Playwright Award. On this week's episode of Kickin' & Streamin' Graham and Jocelyn review FX Original series Pose, a show starring M.J. Rodriguez, Billy Porter, Dominique Jackson, Ryan Jamaal Swain, and Indya Moore. The series was created by screenwriter, director, and producer Ryan Murphy. Murphy is best known for creating and co-creating heavy hitter series including Nip Tuck, Glee, American Horror Story, American Crime Story among others. Jocelyn describes the series as deeply educational and eye-opening. Graham & Jocelyn discuss how much the series shed light on the reality of the life of LGBTQ folks in the 80's at the height of the HIV/AIDS epidemic. Jocelyn expresses her amazement at the members of the gay community's ingenuity of creating "houses" as a safe space, a place of refuge for young homeless and destitute LGBT people to prevent them from dying as victim of hate crimes and other dangers they were exposed to as a result of their sexual orientation. Jocelyn expresses how learning about the Ball Culture, all the details, the history, and the kindness the gay community showed to one another during those times is enough to renew her faith in humanity. The co-host then discuss each of the main cast members and their respective characters. Graham and Jocelyn praise M.J. Rodriguez's absolutely magnificent portrayal of Blanca Evangelista, a HIV positive "house mother" who is committed to bettering the lives of each one of her children, and she is particularly committed to ensuring Damon (Ryan Jamaal Swain) lives up to his potential as a ballet dancer. The two co-hosts then discuss Billy Porter's portrayal of Pray Tell who is the Emcee at the nightly balls where each house compete in a runway-style contest of a variety of categories. The remaining characters and actors are discussed at length and in detail. Graham and Jocelyn point out the importance of seeing the art in the series, the creativity, the braveness of individuals who in spite of all the rejection, discrimination, and mistreatment they received from the outside world, they decided to live their true lives, their true identity, regardless of the consequences and ignorance of the times. Enjoy this episode, and please don't forget to tell us what you think if you've watched Pose, or when you watch it. As the fight for equality continues, transgendered individuals have gained more exposure in the limelight and mainstream media. They even have their own flag, which speaks volumes to the community and the movement. Now more than ever we need to educate the public to erase ignorance and hate that can lead to catastrophic violence and death. Let’s celebrate diversity and expression of identity.
