Tiffany is joined by Lauren Muzyka and Nate Robertson of Sidewalk Advocates for Life to talk about SAFL's impact on families across the country through their peaceful approach to advocacy on the sidewalks outside of abortion and abortion-referral facilities. Learn how to get involved in Sidewalk Advocates for Life in your own community and how to be a faithful witness of the mercy and love of Jesus to women in crisis. Lauren Muzyka serves as President & CEO of Sidewalk Advocates for Life (SAFL) where she oversees the organization's vision, mission, and program. Lauren is a licensed attorney whose passion for defending the sanctity of human life led her into the pro-life movement. For over two years, Lauren served as Campaign Strategist for the National 40 Days for Life Team, advising their 300+ campaigns in North America. Lauren holds a Bachelor of Arts in Political Science and Spanish from Texas A&M University, as well as an Advanced Certificate in International Affairs. She is a 2009 cum laude graduate of Ave Maria School of Law (AMSOL) where she served as President of the Lex Vitae Society, a Student Bar Association Class Senator, and remained active in Moot Court Board and The Advocate Radio Show. In 2008, Lauren was selected as Best Oralist in the State of Michigan Moot Court Competition, where the AMSOL team also won the championship. She was also selected by her classmates to be a 2009 Student Commencement Speaker. Lauren has interned with organizations such as Alliance Defending Freedom, Americans United for Life, Liberty Institute, Texas Alliance for Life, and the Collin County District Attorney's Office. Lauren is a trained Sidewalk Advocate of more than 20 years and has been interviewed on various media outlets throughout the country and world. Her greatest joy is her relationship with Jesus Christ and His Church, being married to her husband, chasing after her rescue dogs, and bringing God's people together across denominational lines in the pro-life movement. Nate Robertson serves as Vice President of SAFL. In that role, he oversees the Programs Department, assists with program inquiries, trainings, and location mentorship, and helps builds community relationships. Nate is passionate about the pro-life cause and has ministered on dozens of sidewalks outside of abortion facilities throughout America. His involvement in the pro-life movement can be traced back to his childhood, when he was greatly moved by the fight for life for the unborn. He has networked with many pro-life groups and organizations over the years and is excited to see SAFL aim to cover all uncovered abortion facilities in the U.S. — and beyond — with peaceful, loving advocates. He desires to facilitate the advancement of the pro-life cause through awareness and accountability. Nate built a strong reputation as a business leader in account management for over 10 years. He is actively involved in ministry at his local church, as well as traveling and ministering to other congregations. He holds a Bachelor of Arts in Biblical Studies from Union University in Jackson, TN, where he also served as student body Vice President (2003). Prior to joining the SAFL National Team, Nate served as a Co-Program Leader for SAFL-Louisville, KY. Nate and his family live in Orlando, Florida. As we kick off a new series highlighting partner organizations, we welcome Major General Bob Dees (US Army, Ret.) back to the podcast, who serves as President of the Board for the National Center for Healthy Veterans. Our veterans have pledged their lives for our freedom, security, and prosperity. Healthy veterans are productive members of society, good employees, and positive role models, but not all of our veterans are healthy – more veterans have committed suicide in the past 10 years than the number of combat deaths in the Vietnam War. Our veterans need America, and America needs healthy veterans. The National Center for Healthy Veterans is a comprehensive scalable solution and a unique strategic initiative that will have national impact and return healthy veterans to America. Bob served thirty-one years as an infantry officer, a senior military leader and strategist, and Commander of the 2d Infantry Division in Korea, and the US-Israeli Combined Task Force for Missile Defense. Following the military, he served in business at Microsoft, in non-profit leadership, and in academia as a VP for military outreach at Liberty University and founder of the Liberty Institute for Military Resilience. In 2015 and 2016, he served as national security advisor and chairman for Dr. Ben Carson's Presidential Campaign. Bob has authored five books including the Resilience Trilogy and the Resilience God Style series. He was also featured as one of 30 “Master Leaders in America” by noted author George Barna and was awarded the Council for National Policy George Washington Military Leadership Award in 2018. To find out more about Bob's work at the National Center for Healthy Veterans, visit https://www.healthyveterans.org/, and to hear more from Bob, check out Episodes 49 and 50 of the podcast! Richard Lowery is an Associate Professor of Finance at The University of Texas at Austin and a senior scholar at the Salem Center for Public Policy. He joins the podcast to talk about his recent article “How UT-Austin Administrators Destroyed an Intellectual Diversity Initiative,” which details what went wrong with plans to build the Liberty Institute.Lowery and Hanania discuss the politicization of academia and how it has even reached finance, why developing new educational institutions is difficult, how “fake conservatives” on campus provide cover for the Left to control universities, and the failure of Republican donors and politicians to push back against these trends effectively. They converge on a set of ideas regarding how to fix academia going forward. Working within the university and without outside support is hopeless, as radicals committed to stamping out dissent have already won and are in a position to thwart any attempts at reform. Nonetheless, state university systems are ultimately under the control of politicians. Conservative elected officials need to show a greater interest in taking concrete steps toward restoring free inquiry and the search for objective truth, which will only happen if they are pressured to do so by donors and right-leaning media. Usually, this will mean not trying to reform individual departments, but relying on state funding and private philanthropy to create new institutions within existing universities, if not apart from them, that can be run by those ideologically committed to rolling back the triumph of anti-capitalist dogma and identity politics. These problems are not insoluble. American conservatives have accomplished political goals before. All it takes is an understanding of the scope of the problem and the political will to do something about it. The conversation includes specific steps that elected officials, academics, donors, and political activists can take to build new institutions.Listen in podcast form or watch on YouTube.Links:Richard Lowery’s Twitter (@RichardLoweryTX).Richard Lowery, “How UT-Austin Administrators Destroyed an Intellectual Diversity Initiative.”Kate McGee, “Professors Behind Conservative-Backed “Liberty Institute” say UT has Strayed from Plan.” Get full access to Center for the Study of Partisanship and Ideology at www.cspicenter.com/subscribe
The new conservative think tank at the University of Texas, up until now referred to as the "Liberty Institute", has been formally named The Civitas Institute. Its first director will be UT alum Justin Dyer, who describes himself as a "conservative, straight out of central casting, pro-life evangelical". Adding to the misery of our early heat wave this year is Saharan Dust - along with diminished air quality, however, we should get some great sunsets. Three Austin chefs - Edgar Rico of Nixta Taqueria, Iliana de la Vega of El Naranjo, and Mashama Bailey of The Diner Bar and Grey Market - have been named James Beard winners. Austin Bergstrom International Airport has broken its monthly passenger record for the second month in a row: April's all-time-high count of 1,865,046 surpasses March's total by over 40,000. The number of residents living in downtown Austin surged 79 percent between 2010 and 2020, when it hit 13,648. After a promising start, Capital Metro has announced that it will not bring its transit schedule fully back to pre-pandemic levels after all. The revival of the Austin Opry House off South Congress is approved by the Austin City Council, with caveats about the size of the project. The city's Animal Advisory Commission has passed a vote of no confidence in the director of the Austin Animal Center. Beloved local pizza purveyor Bufalina is set to reopen in the former Frank's Laundry space in East Austin. Austin has been ranked one of the best U.S. cities for hiking, at #30 out of 200. In Texas, we rank only behind El Paso at #18. Portland, Oregon tops the list. Post Malone and Slipknot have announced Austin shows at the Moody Center and Germania Insurance Amphitheater, respectively.
This week on The Texan's “Weekly Roundup,” the team discusses Austin considering a universal basic income program, revelations about the state-funded Liberty Institute at UT, state officials debating whether the border crisis counts as an “invasion,” Wendy Davis filing a lawsuit against the Texas Heartbeat Act, home appraisals in the Austin area skyrocketing, arrests of illegal immigrants at the border processed under Title 42, the latest in campaign fundraising numbers, Dallas County's judge using taxpayer dollars in a legal battle with Gov. Abbott, and a few campaign updates as the runoff elections approach. Got questions for the reporting team? Email editor@thetexan.news — they just might be answered on next week's podcast.
A key Austin COVID statistic has dropped into Stage 3 range, just as universal masking is dropped as a county recommendation based on new CDC data - the CEO of Moderna is predicting an end to the pandemic this year, while cautioning that an Omicron-specific vaccine booster may be necessary. A third day of protests against the Russian attack on Ukraine was held at the Texas State Capitol yesterday. Local restaurant Russian House has changed its name to simply "House" in protest of Russian military aggression. Elon Musk's SpaceX has begun beaming internet service into the Ukrainian combat zone via its Starlink satellite system. Governor Greg Abbott has called for Texas retailers to stop selling products produced in Russia, especially Russian vodka - somewhere, Tito Beveridge is smiling. Japanese rock band CHAI has their equipment trailer stolen in Austin. Transplant Joe Rogan is set to take over the historic Ritz space on East 6th Street, where he intends to launch a new comedy club. St. Edwards University inaugurates its first Hispanic president. Conservative UT think tank The Liberty Institute finds they can't use that name. Sports wins galore over the weekend: A great kickoff for Austin FC's second MLS season, a convincing win over FC Cincinnati at Q2 Stadium on Saturday, final score 5-0. Texas Longhorns Baseball makes short work of Alabama, sweeping its three game series with the Crimson Tide and staying #1. Texas men's basketball squeaks by West Virginia, and plays against Baylor in their last Frank Erwin Center game. And softball, track and field and swimming and diving see championship performances as well.
Peace Radicals Episode 58 - Barun Mitra Former Founder & Director of Liberty Institute & Free Thinker. Texas Lt. Gov. Dan Patrick recently said the newly created Liberty Institute will help eliminate CRT at the University of Texas. That raises the question: will a government-funded, government-run think tank help protect us from government?
Bill Peacock examines proposed solutions to the problem of CRT in Texas universities.
The lieutenant governor vowed to ban the teaching of critical race theory at Texas' public colleges and universities.
Local COVID hospitalizations are now very close to crossing into Stage 4 range, but dropping slower than previously expected - the Omicron subvariant BA.2 could be a factor. University of Texas faculty are alarmed at Lieutenant Governor Dan Patrick's comments about The Liberty Institute - a new conservative-backed think tank at UT - and worry that it is aimed at suppressing the accurate teaching of history. Austin Water has been flushing lines in south Austin after residents complained of foul smelling and tasting water - it apparently has nothing to do with the recent boil-water notice. Capital Metro expects to restore local transit service to full capacity by late this summer. Austin Bergstrom International Airport saw its fourth-busiest year in 2021 and its busiest December ever at the end of last year. Houston's Fajita Pete's opens it first Austin location with goals to open five more. The Health Alliance for Austin Musicians or HAAM has purchased an office building on South First and expects to open it by this fall. The DeLorean sportscar is making a comeback as an electric vehicle and its HQ will be in San Antonio - Austin is a possibility for the location of DeLorean manufacturing. Nine local craft brewers take gold medals in the first Texas Craft Brewers Cup with Black Star Co-op winning Best Small Brewery and Real Ale Brewing winning Best Large Brewery. And a cold front is inbound, cooling down our Friday, prior to a weirdly warm Monday and Tuesday next week.

Slater talks to Jeremy Dys of the 1st Liberty Institute about Navy Seals fighting vaccine mandates.
Positive COVID news in two pieces: our local daily hospitalization average has dropped below Stage 5 range for the first time since the end of July, and Travis County has officially hit 70% of all eligible vaccinated. Meanwhile half of the people still showing up at Austin hospitals are not locals, but rather residents of neighboring counties with lower vaccination rates - with Travis being stuck with the bill. Federal officials are preparing a challenge to Governor Greg Abbott's school masking mandate ban. Texas is seeing a significant and spreading outbreak of salmonella bacterial poisonings. ACL Fest's safety plan is updated and approved by the City, while their special events permit is still forthcoming, and local testing centers prepare for a festival-related rush of traffic. Former State Senator Pete Flores will run for the redrawn District 4 seat soon to be vacated by Dawn Buckingham. Organizers of UT's new Liberty Institute see opposition from faculty, who say the new think tank represents a politicization of the university. 5 local high schools place high in a new statewide ranking. Former Lake Travis Cavalier Charlie Brewer quits the Utah Utes after losing the starting quarterback position following three games. Pizza joint 40 North reopens its dining room while Tex Mex joint El Chile moves across Manor Road into new digs. Black Pumas frontman Eric Burton stars in a new science fiction short film. And the first day of fall sees major changes with cooler days and much cooler nights.

Hiram Sasser, a lawyer with the Liberty Institute specializing in Religious discrimination cases, talks about how the confirmation of Amy Coney Barrett to the Supreme Court could benefit both Democrats and Republicans in the upcoming election
USS Theodore Roosevelt Captain Brett Crozier was removed by Acting Secretary of the Navy Thomas Modly who then himself stepped down. The initial removal was because the Captain broke with the chain of Command and released information that made our enemies aware we had a ship at sea incapable of completing it's mission because 100 out of 5000 sailors were found to be carrying the CCP Virus. This break down in Military discipline is indicative of a larger issue in the service brought about by the last administrations efforts to do social behavior experiments at the expense of morale, readiness and military discipline. This breakdown has been rerported about on this program in past interviews with Ret General Jerry Boykin, Michael Berry of Liberty Institute, Jeff Mateer then of Liberty Institute and several other military me. Clare Lopez former CIA Operative discusses this issue.

For a while, Spike has wanted to clear up some of the confusion and misconceptions (and outright falsehoods) regarding the concept of physical removal as espoused by Hans Hermann-Hoppe and others. And who better to help him do it than the Vice President of the Liberty Institute for Freedom and Economics, TJ Roberts? TJ was previously the Managing Editor of Liberty Hangout, the Campus Coodinator for Students for Rand Paul and other campaigns, he's a Contributor to Advocates for Self-Government and is routinely involved in several campaigns.
