Hello there, I'm Jonathan Gouthier, your host for the Faith First Podcast, and the Associate Pastor at First Church here in Torrington, CT. Hey Steve, welcome. In this episode you'll discover:Why we are not to have any idolsWhat a modern-day idol isWhy we need to embrace Jesus + Nothing = EverythingHow deception beginsWhat to do with new age practicesThe God of the Bible, Yahweh, is the great and only I AM. Therefore we must completely surrender to Him and worship Him.If you've just found out about the Faith First Podcast, we are so glad you joined us for this episode and we encourage you to hit the notification bell below to be alerted to when the next episode launches. Conor Conway is a coffee connoisseur, top notch trumpeter, and spiritual conversationalist. Since he is a co-owner of Epoch Coffee in downtown Moncton, I have known of Conor for years now, but this in-depth conversation was long overdue. We dip into his early days with Canadian pop music sensation The Weeknd, drink three marvelously prepared cups of coffee, and dive DEEP into not only his own experiences of God in general and Judaism in particular, but also some of the (good and less-good) ways Judaism & Christianity have historically interacted.I learned a lot in this conversation, not least about Sistema and Reconstructionist Judaism. I also learned (hopefully) how to do a better job recording a pod in-person rather than online… next time. Please, your patience for the audio-quality is requested! Most importantly, though, I learned that while it is obviously difficult to talk about difficult things, it can be worth doing so with safe people, even if you stumble pretty hard over your own words. I truly appreciated Conor's grace to me throughout our chat, but especially in the back quarter when we get into one of the hottest of the hot topics (in my world, at least). During this episode I referenced Carmen Joy Imes' books. Here's a link to the podcast I recorded with her: Episode 31I also referenced my love for David Desteno's “How God Works” podcast. “In the incarnation, God has deemed the female body - the impure, bleeding female body - worthy to handle the most sacred of all things, the very body of God. “(Amy Peeler, pg 61, Women & the Gender of God)In this episode (released oh-so-close to Christmas 2023), I am beyond pleased to be able to share with you a conversation with the Rev Dr Amy Peeler. Amy is a professor at Wheaton College, an associate rector at St. Mark's Episcopal Church, and the author of (the book we primarily discuss) Women and Gender of God. This book is an important exploration of the way our understandings about both God and humanity flow in both directions… and how we ought to be careful about that.**At the beginning of the conversation I mention that Amy just got back from “SBL” (which is the Society for Biblical Literature), and we also drop the term “ETS” (which is the Evangelical Theological Society). ** This is a public episode. With this short conversation between Tim and his pastor, we want to set the foundation for further discussions of generosity and biblical thinking about money and ministry. And that foundation is that we worship a stunningly lavish God who did not even spare his own son, but gave him up for us all, and freely gives us all things. sellingjesus.org | thedoreanprinciple.org | copy.church

Every day it seems more difficult to explain to friends, families, and neighbors what we believe and why. How do we find common ground and paint a vivid, robust, and compelling picture of our faith to those who either disagree with our perspective, or do not understand the "Christianese" we so often use when talking about God and Christianity? Where do we go when our ideas and arguments fail to persuade them? Join us to learn how a good story is the best way to win others to Christ.
How do we cling to God in this life? Faith, Hope, and Charity. Nothing is more important in this life than knowing God by faith, relying on Him by hope, and being one with Him in divine love. These theological virtues have God (Theos in Greek) as their object and source. God is the one we believe, trust, and love. He infuses these virtues, these excellences, these readinesses, into our soul. But to grow in these virtues, we need humility. We need to rely on God"s grace. Tonight Br Lawrence tells us how God purifies us and makes our faith, hope, and love stronger. Last episode, we read about the need to speak to God in all the perplexing moments of life. The practice of the presence of God is not something disconnected from the rest of our life. We live as we pray. We pray as we live. Prayer arises from the present moment. Prayer arises from everyday life. The present is where time meets eternity, where humanity meets God.
.
We read about the need to seek the union with God in the ordinary events of life. By doing his will through a loving obedience, we find ourselves close to Him. Union with God depends on love. Love involves doing the will of the one we love. The more we live with God, the more we seek His grace, the more we can do His will.

Today's guest on The Kingdom Driven Entrepreneur Podcast is Jim Baker, senior leader and pastor of Zion Christian Fellowship in Powell, Ohio, and the founder of the Wealth With God movement. After seeing a massive breakthrough of miraculous healings take place in his local congregation, the Lord instructed Jim to go after finances the same way that they went after healing. His yes to that instruction led to an 18-part sermon series on finances and yielded amazing financial breakthrough among those in his church, with about 25% of the congregation getting completely out of debt within a year. Soon after, he was given another assignment from God -- to create a movement of Kingdom wealth-builders who understand that prosperity has a purpose and that it's about influence and impact. In today's episode, Jim shares the behind-the-scenes of what the last few years have looked like as he said yes to the assignment to launch the Wealth with God movement -- how he's growing in working with God and in His rest. Plus you'll hear some of the goodness of what He's learned about building wealth in a Kingdom-driven way.
Today's guest on The Kingdom Driven Entrepreneur Podcast is Holly Magliochetti, CEO and Founder of Grace Health Technology, and Genetics Institute of America Laboratory. Holly is a beloved member of the Kingdom Driven Entrepreneur family and a catalytic leader -- one who has shared that joining KDE and Igniters mentoring a few years ago was like being “born again for business.” In this episode, Holly shares her story of how embracing life in Christ and learning how to partner with God in business changed everything. Her life and business truly testify to the goodness of embracing God's invitation to do business WITH Him and His presence and not just FOR Him and with His principles.

For this week's episode, Church of England vicar Jamie Franklin was joined by The Rev'd Dr Joseph Boot to talk about issues arising from his new book Ruler of Kings: Towards a Christian Vision of Government . We talked about the cult of the expert, our propensity in the wake of the rejection of a Christian culture to deify the state and to thereby attempt to create a globalist utopian on the earth, and a Christian view of government which includes institutions possessing their own integrity and the right to exist independently of the state. We also spoke about the role of the law of God in society and how we might conceive of a Christian culture that eschews the putative neutrality of the secular realm. The question of miracles is a topic that evokes responses no matter where you bring it up. Among our broader culture, you might receive a sneer or a look of suspicion. Even in the church, some people will get excited and others will be cautiously hesitant when you bring up the miraculous and the potential to experience miracles. I'm excited to bring the esteemed philosopher J. P. Moreland back on the show to discuss his latest book A Simple Guide to Experience Miracles: Instruction and Inspiration for Living Supernaturally in Christ. I must admit that J. P.'s work in this area has profoundly influenced me. He has helped me to be much more open to and desiring to see extraordinary works of the Spirit, and I think you will get a lot out of it too. J. P. Moreland (Ph.D., University of Southern California) is a distinguished professor of philosophy at Talbot School of Theology, Biola University, in La Mirada, California. There's a crisis in the West today—a crisis of happiness. Both sociological research and statistics such as the rise in the so-called “deaths of despair,” paint a picture of a society that is wrestling with a lack of satisfaction in spite of its decadence. This dilemma and its solution has been debated by scholars, psychologists, pundits and philosophers. My guest on today's show says that the dilemma will not be solved unless we consider how Christianity offers a life of meaning. His name is J. P. Moreland and he wrote a book called The God Question on how Christianity invites us to “a full life, to an adventure, filled with meaning and drama.” J. P. Moreland (PhD, University of Southern California) is distinguished professor of philosophy at Talbot School of Theology, Biola University, in La Mirada, California. He has written or contributed to over ninety-five books, including The God Conversation, Philosophical Foundations for a Christian Worldview, In Search of a Confident Faith, and Love Your God With All Your Mind. Throughout his career Moreland has co-planted three churches, spoken and debated on over 200 college campuses around the country, and served with Campus Crusade for Christ (Cru) for ten years. Moreland's ideas have been covered by both popular religious and non-religious outlets, including the New Scientist, Christianity Today, PBS's "Closer to Truth," and WORLD magazine. He was selected in August 2016 by The Best Schools as one of the 50 most influential living philosophers. Josh Willcutts, aka “Yakyn”, is living one of his dreams, one of them he reaffirmed 7 years ago when he wrote song lyrics in the back of a warehouse's invoices. He has been working in one of the most music-driven cities in the world, sharing his songs in bars, at colleges, in homes, on TV, and at festivals! All this passion for writing music began when he wanted to write fantasy novels when he was a child. His next dream is to buy his mother's own house; for that reason, he creates music that makes you think, inspires, and wants you to listen to them over and over again. This is an interview from inside ClaritasU. Who is God? What are some common mistakes Catholics make when talking about God? How can we distinguish classical theism from other kinds of theism? What are some tips or strategies you would give to Catholics for improving their conversations about God? Brandon Vogt and I sit down to discuss these questions. The Classical Theism Podcast aims to defend Catholic Christian ideas in conversation. With the help of various guests, I defend three pillars of the Catholic Christian worldview: (1) the God of classical theism exists, (2) Jesus is our Messiah and Lord, and (3) He founded the Catholic Church. We place a strong emphasis on the first pillar, defending classical theism, drawing upon the work of Thomistic philosopher Dr. Edward Feser and many others. Today on the podcast, we’re continuing our Advent series of walking through some prominent people in the Christmas story today by chatting with one of my dearest friends Alicia Perry about Elizabeth. We talk all about friendship, motherhood, the activity of God, living with disappointment, about the hope that God has not forgotten you, and what we glean about all those things from the story of Elizabeth and so much more. You know, it's funny, when I felt God lead me to ask Alicia to come on the podcast and talk about Elizabeth, and this is true about every person I approached for this Advent series, I didn’t totally know why and then He began to just unfold it all in the sweetest way. In this case, I realized as I was talking with Alicia that we essentially are like an Elizabeth and a Mary in our own way. I am in no way the mother of the savior, but I am a younger woman who was given a relationship with a woman who further along in life to learn about God, about marriage, and Motherhood from and we have overflowed onto one another over and over again. In my Advent study I’m doing from At His Feet Studies, there was a section that said this: “We see God answer individual and corporate prayers of his people through the baby in Elizabeth’s womb. What does this tell us about God’s care and use of details in our stories for His glory?” and I just couldn’t help but think about the overflow. The answer to Elizabeth’s prayer impacted her, her marriage, her family, her community, and ultimately a nation all the way to you and I and the Church as we know it today. How incredible is that? That is the God we serve. That is a God who cares about His people individually, as a family of His children. What a gift. We have all walked through fire this last year in some form or another, and the activity of God in our lives, the exercising of our faith and how we share all of that with the people in our lives matters. It builds us up and helps us persevere. So, whether you are dealing with disappointment, or feeling forgotten, or suddenly faced with something new and overwhelming and you have many questions for God, keep going, friend. He hears you, and He has not forgotten you. You matter, your story matters. *Our Advent series intro music is by Chris & Stephanie Teauge of Out of the Dust. When John MacArthur told Beth Moore to “go home,” it revealed much about his framework for how the church and home should operate and who is responsible for each sphere. This perspective seems to see the spheres as quite separate. The church has a purpose and a mission, and the home has a purpose and a mission, but those only overlap because the biological family is the building block for both. But what if this framework undercuts the church as the family of God with brothers and sisters working together to build it? In this episode of Persuasion, Erin Straza and Hannah Anderson continue their series titled Go Home! Finding Our Way. Each episode of the series explores the common assumptions regarding the home, both in the church and in society. This particular conversation centers on the family of God and the relationships we have with each other as spiritual siblings. Certainly the biological family is important and needed for stable homes and societies. Within the church, however, the biological family is to yield to something greater: our church family. To help sort out this distinction, Erin and Hannah invite Laura Fabrycky to the conversation. Laura has immersed herself into the missional life of Dietrich Bonhoeffer, who saw the spheres of church and home as united in both purpose and operation. Bonhoeffer’s vision for the church operating as the family of God in the world is refreshing in light of the Go Home mandate. What does it look like to make the family of God primary? How did Bonhoeffer’s perspective of home and mission inspire his relationships and work? How did Jesus respond when the crowds elevated His biological family above the family of God? Conversation touches on questions like these, exploring common presumptions and fallacies in an attempt to find our way home. Listen to the latest episode in the Go Home! series, then continue the conversation on Twitter @PersuasionCAPC or in the CAPC members-only community on Facebook.
Today's guest is creative consultant Keenya Kelly. Not many years ago she had a thriving corporate career plus a 6-figure network marketing business, but God completely shifted her business focus and she accepted the invitation to an adventure of doing business in partnership with Him. Keenya had plenty of experience on how to grow a business, but she learned how to lay aside her know-how in order to seek God's heart and the leading of the Holy Spirit for the new thing He was doing. She's seeking Him for strategy, embracing her spiritual gifts, and is taking risks to cultivate those gifts and allow them to flow freely for the benefit of her consulting clients.
Today’s conversation is with Patrice Tsague, Co-Founder and Chief Servant Officer of Nehemiah Project, an organization with a mission to build kingdom businesses globally. He shares some of the early challenges he faced, such as moving forward with the vision God gave him (even when those he respected couldn't see it), and dealing with issues of race and culture. Patrice reveals the work that God has done in his mind and heart as he has stewarded the vision through his global organization for 20 years.
Today’s conversation is with Jim Stovall, an author, speaker, a national champion Olympic weightlifter, and the President of the Narrative Television Network where he has made television accessible to millions of blind and visually impaired people. He shares stories from his life and business adventures of how seeking first the Kingdom of God and His righteousness has led to solutions, Heaven's provision, and the fulfillment of dreams.

Hope is essential to the Christian life. Like the Thessalonians, we’re sometimes tempted to lose hope and give up. It’s in such situations that these ancient letters find new life. Paul’s letters to the Thessalonians are often overlooked, but they’re as important as any of his letters – and they’re essential for the church today. Sometimes we just need to hear it how it is. This is the approach John takes in writing his epistles. Join Con and Scot as they explore how First John is a love letter from God, and it inspires love among God’s children. And for such a short letter, 2 John packs a lot in, the twin themes of love and truth dominating its theological content. 3 John addresses love and truth as the subject of hospitality, and also adds practical insights for leadership. Stories of God talking to his people abound throughout the Bible, but we usually only get the highlights. We read; “God said; ‘Go to Egypt’”, and then; “Mary and Joseph left for Egypt.” We’re not told how God spoke, how they knew it was him or how they decided to act on what they’d heard. This is how the blurb of my new book God Conversations reads. When I first read Bible stories about God speaking I thought, it sounds so easy for them - when the reality felt so different. That’s why I set out to write my book. I wanted to show more than the highlights. I wanted to show what really happens behind the scenes when we hear God’s voice. In this podcast, we talk about how my book on hearing God's voice is different from others: It's all about the stories For one, it's all about the stories. The goal is to show you how God speaks rather than tell you. You'll notice there's no list of things for you to do; there's no five steps for you to follow. This was a deliberate style choice. Have you noticed most of the Bible is stories? Most of Jesus’ teaching is stories. Stories turn principles from black and white to colour. They fill in the abstract and ground truth in reality. So the book is more show than tell - although there is telling involved too. From the feedback I've received, people relate most to the stories. They say; “I never thought I could hear from God, but now I realise I always have.” It gives more than the highlights We love the Bible, but we need to remember that the Bible only gives the highlights - the best stories. We read, "And God said to Abram; 'Leave your country and go to a new land' (Genesis 12:1) then, "So Abram went..." (Genesis 12:4). I often wonder if it was that easy! The Bible gives us nothing of what went on in Abram's head as he processed what he'd heard. Often the stories were told years later after a long time of editing and reflection. There's no detail about what went on behind the scenes. This kind of approach makes sense since the Bible writers had the big picture in mind. They were more concerned about communicating the message than revealing the process. I think that's partly why God led me to give more detail in the book. He wants us to know that he understands our struggle and that he has answers to the fear and doubt behind it all. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=31aSdOq_VCc&t=2s It reflects on contemporary God-conversations in light of ancient ones. In the book you’ll notice I find myself in the middle of situations seeking to understand them. The first place I turned to was my Bible. Had anyone else had a God-dream like me? Had anyone seen dead bodies used to symbolise lifeless hopes? Had anyone had to trust God’s word for a big geographical move? Had anyone received a funny sign to confirm what God had said? We need to remember that God has been speaking for a long time and the patterning of his call is the same even though circumstances differ. And of course, people in the Bible are just like us. They make mistakes, they hear what they want to hear, they sometimes disobey and have to face the consequences. So the Bible is like a journal of God-conversations for us to learn from. That's why in the book, my story is spliced with the story of the Bible characters. Each chapter starts with a time that God spoke and the questions surrounding it. Then we cut to a God Conversation in the Bible and learn from that. At the end of the chapter, the questions are answered by the resolution of the story. Underlying each story is an important teaching principle about hearing God’s voice and following it. At heart, we all have the same questions: What does God sound like? How do we know it’s him and how do we respond to what he says? God Conversations invites you on a journey to find the answers. Listen to the podcast for a discount on the book! Traditions, rules, religion...- Jesus came to show us we cannot do it and since we cannot, He came to do it for us.- People teach that we have to do some things... that we could backslide and go to hell; stories of fear make people run to the altar, keep people in bondage and fear thinking Jesus won’t love them if they do wrong- Beware of people trying to drag you back- Works are not a prerequisite but a result of knowing Jesus- Prayer was never given as a task to complete but a privilege, giving access to almighty God
