Today we briefly discuss Hurricane Ian and let's just say it's not great. Moving onto more important issues, Lizzo disgraced the country by twerking while playing Jame's Madisons gay crystal flute. This is an outrage that cannot go undiscussed. Gavin Newsom signed a bill blocking the use of rap lyrics in court, but I think it's time the OGs like Snoop Dogg & Dr. Dre hold a rap game CPAC so that they can teach these youngins how to stop snitching on themselves. In 2000, the newly created Montpelier Foundation took over management of the historic home of James Madison with a seemingly insurmountable task before it. The house was no longer recognizable as the home of the Madisons, and most other structures were in poor condition. Within ten years, the foundation overcame numerous hurdles to restore the house and turn Montpelier into a monument to the Father of the Constitution. Over the next decade, the site also became a monument to Montpelier's enslaved. The buildings in their community next to the Madisons' home were reconstructed, and award-winning exhibits dramatically illustrate the tragedy of slavery and essential role of enslaved people in Madison's life. Foundation co-founder William H. Lewis details the nonprofit's ambitious preservation projects and remarkable achievements.
Men det gäller ju förstås all sådan förflyttning. Gustaf Grapengiesser

The Other Madisons: The Lost History of a President's Black Family by Bettye Kearse "A Roots for a new generation, rich in storytelling and steeped in history." —Kirkus Reviews, Starred Review "A compelling saga that gives a voice to those that history tried to erase...Poignant and eye-opening, this is a must-read." —Booklist In The Other Madisons, Bettye Kearse—a descendant of an enslaved cook and, according to oral tradition, President James Madison—shares her family story and explores the issues of legacy, race, and the powerful consequences of telling the whole truth. For thousands of years, West African griots (men) and griots (women) have recited the stories of their people. Without this tradition, Bettye Kearse would not have known that she is a descendant of President James Madison and his slave, and half-sister, Coreen. In 1990, Bettye became the eighth-generation griotte for her family. Their credo—“Always remember—you’re a Madison. You come from African slaves and a president”—was intended to be a source of pride, but for her, it echoed with abuses of slavery, including rape and incest. Confronting those abuses, Bettye embarked on a journey of discovery—of her ancestors, the nation, and herself. She learned that wherever African slaves walked, recorded history silenced their voices and buried their footsteps: beside a slave-holding fortress in Ghana; below a federal building in New York City; and under a brick walkway at James Madison’s Virginia plantation. When Bettye tried to confirm the information her ancestors had passed down, she encountered obstacles at every turn. Part personal quest, part testimony, part historical correction, The Other Madisons is the saga of an extraordinary American family told by a griot in search of the whole story. About Bettye Kearse In 1990, Bettye Kearse became the family griotte when her mother brought the box of family memorabilia to her. Bettye asked, "Why now?" The answer was: "I want to give you plenty of time to write the book." In recounting the struggles, perseverance, and contributions of eight generations of Bettye's family, THE OTHER MADISONS discovers, discloses, and embraces a more inclusive and complete American story. Her writings have appeared in the BOSTON HERALD, RIVER TEETH, ZORA, MENTAL FLOSS, IMAGEMAKERS & INFLUENCERS MAGAZINE, OpEdNEWS, TIME MAGAZINE and the anthology BLACK LIVES HAVE ALWAYS MATTERED. THE OTHER MADISONS earned an International Afro-American Historical and Genealogical Book Award. Bettye's research received extensive coverage in the WASHINGTON POST: www.washingtonpost.com/graphics/2017/lifestyle/dna-madison/ Bettye was born in Tucson, Arizona and grew up in California. She has a B.A. in Genetics from the University of California, a Ph.D. in Biology from New York University, and an M.D. from Case Western Reserve University. Before retiring and moving to Santa Fe, New Mexico, Bettye practicedB pediatrics in Boston for 31 years. Bettye's favorite foods are nuts and truffles. When a choice must be made, it depends on her level of self-indulgence. Website: bettyekearse.com
Subscribe To Our Weekly Email INTRODUCING MADISON NOLLEY: We all have something inside of us that drives us towards reaching our goals. For some of us, it is a desire to complete worthy goals. For others it the need to do everything correctly that gets us to the endpoint. And for some of us, it is competitiveness. Actually, there is probably a little bit of all of those in all of us, with one outshining the others. Our guest today is definitely competitive. Madison Nolley describes herself that way. She has an older brother that she loves very much but definitely does not want to be outdone by. This drives her. It got her started in the FFA as soon as her school district would allow - 6th Grade, and it has pushed her into every possible competitive FFA event that she was allowed to do prior to beginning high school. As a freshman, Madison is already transitioning from a placement SAE to an entrepreneurship SAE, and she has already been able to obtain a $1,000 SAE grant from Farm Credit to help her begin her Dahlia production business. Madison is still competing with her big brother, who is currently serving as the state president for the New York State FFA Officer Team. However, this competition coupled with her natural drive is pushing her towards great achievements of her own. Madison lovingly talks about being competitive with her brother, but there is a serious side there too. She has some great goals for her flower business, and for the offices, she wants to achieve in the FFA. It is going to be a lot of fun to watch where she goes over the next three + years of high school and FFA. REASONS TO DONATE TO FFA: Only 2% of Americans grow and raise most of the food and livestock consumed by the other 98% and the rest of the world. FFA provides the needed education, training, and resources to Americans that will carry that torch forward and ensure that America continues to have inexpensive, quality food. Rural Communities will rely on entrepreneurship in the future for population growth and job creation. The FFA is a major catalyst to that entrepreneurial growth. Farmers, ranchers, and those working in agriculture give the rest of America incredible amounts of freedom because the food search is as simple as going to the grocery store: “The future of American agriculture depends on the involvement and investment in America’s youth, In order to prepare for the population of tomorrow, we need to encourage America’s youth today, and show that careers in agriculture are profitable, rewarding, and vital.”. This week in 1814… President James and Dolley Madison and their slaves escape the White House as the British invade and burn Washington, DC. As first lady, Dolley Madison had been a much-celebrated hostess. Even today, she is known for rescuing a portrait of George Washington from the fire. But a firsthand account from one of the Madisons' slaves tells a different story.
