Our guest today, Mayda Poc, is a badass who went from Wall Street to working as an International Life Coach for Executives. She's lived all over the world, Paris, London, New York City (damn is there anyplace this woman hasn't been?) and was living life in the fast lane...until life tapped her on the shoulder and said "'Hey girl! Why don't you slow down a bit?" and handed her a cancer diagnosis that caused her to re-evaluate her place in the rat race and gave her pause to reflect on what really matters to her. It was in that space that she regained balance in her life and how spends her career helping busy women and executives just like us find more zen, fulfillment and purpose in their lives and careers. You know, Mayda, as a typical overachiever, holds multiple certifications and accreditations in Life Coaching, Career and Corporate coaching as well as health coaching and aims to help women heal their mind, body and spirit. She helps women find their feminine essence, even in more 'masculine' settings, and teaches women everywhere that we do NOT need to let go of who we are as WOMEN and can lean into our femininity and STILL be relevant as women in middle age. Hell yes! Women have been so conditioned to believe that youth and beauty is our only asset. But girl, we are here to remind you that you are strong and powerful and, with your years of wisdom and experience you CAN find your place in life and work...AND find yourself! In this episode, Mayda reminds us: Sometimes life just pushes you in the right direction and you're, virtually, forced to do something differently. Other times, the message to make a shift comes with a whisper and requires more intentional planning. Embrace it all. When the time is right, look inside yourself and at all of your resources: time, money, knowledge, and choose a path forward from a place of empowerment vs. lack of choice. It's normal to panic. We see perfection everywhere....in advertising, social media...but, what we don't see is the hard work that went into getting them to that place. Ask yourself what is the panic about...then tackle that fear/concern. Eventually, there will be no more obstacles and you'll know you're accountable to the choices you make. Know your worth and have a plan to continue to progress, evolve and grow. Examine that which you are avoiding as a possible "teacher". Embrace your feminine energy in the workplace. Leverage your "emotional" voice to become the voice of reason in conflict and to show compassion to peers and colleagues, when needed. YOU ARE NOT ALONE!! We are here in the middle going through all this crazy shit with you. It it our purpose to stand together so no woman has to brave midlife alone. That why we bring you these valuable interviews each week! And if you're loving our message...PLEASE leave us a review so we can continue to share these juicy conversations with you each week. So many of us were raised to be people pleasers! To take the needs, fears, desires, and wants of other people and make them more important then our own - and it can be a painful way to live! But there is also a benefit to having been a people pleaser - I know, I didn't think that could be true either lol!!Today's guest Mayda Poc helps me dive into the good, the bad and the ugly in regards to people pleasing! After more than 16 years in the financial industry, in Paris, London, and New York City, and a 'life happens' event, Mayda Poc left Investment Banking to become an international life and career coach, focusing on helping executives find more zen, fulfillment, and purpose in their lives and careers. As your typical overachiever, Mayda holds multiple certifications and accreditations: Life Coaching, Career and Corporate, as well as a Health coach. Who am I if I'm not a lawyer, a CEO, a doctor, in finance, a chef, a restauranteur? That's the question that so many of us have asked ourselves—and are terrified of the answer. But how can I go on, day after day, with so much stress, so much pressure—and not just pressure the job puts on me, but the pressure I put on myself to succeed? In so many cultures—including western culture—there is emphasis on career success, and we have learned—and given kudos for—to work harder and harder and harder. And don't get me wrong, there's nothing wrong with working hard or being ambitious or wanting to succeed. But where things unravel is when we focus so much on this success, so much on our jobs, that we lose our sense of the whole self, lose our relationships, maybe even lose ourselves. And that's what happened to today's guest, Mayda Pac. She spent 16 years in high finance, from Paris, to London, to Wall Street. And she excelled. And she pushed herself to the point of ignoring cancer for 2 years and passing out on the street. And even that did not stop her. She still had deals to do. It was only when she had a moment of clarity that she took the terrifying leap of leaving her career in high finance, knowing what to do with her life at all. But she knew that if she didn't take that leap, she might not be so lucky next time. Listen in to this conversation, where Mayda candidly tells her story and how she ended up where she is today, along with many, many pearls of wisdom that will undoubtedly resonate for you today. Nine in ten Republicans say increasing border security is important, and immigration remains a salient issue with voters entering the 2022 midterm elections. But it's not just general opposition to immigrants that registers with voters. The skills immigrants bring shape how US voters view them. In a paper in the American Economic Journal: Applied Economics, authors Anna Maria Mayda, Giovanni Peri, and Walter Steingress investigate how Republican vote share changed with an influx of differently skilled workers. They say that Republicans lost votes in places where the immigrants were highly skilled, for example, in fields like health care or IT, while gaining vote share where there was an influx of low-skilled foreign workers. Additionally, they find that if overall immigration—including all skill levels—had been cut in half in certain states between 1990 and 2016, it would have swung the 2016 election for Democrats. Mayda spoke with Chris Fleisher recently about how immigrant skill level shapes public perceptions, the extent to which this affected Republican support, and the implications for how immigration is talked about by policymakers and covered in the media.

In this episode, which originally aired on my YouTube Channel in November 2021, my new friends Mark. It turned out to be very dark, and would later guide them toward seeking salvation in Jesus Christ. We also discuss the enchantment of False Light teachings and practices such as Kundalini Yoga. Mark had a "spiritual experience" that he now identifies as having given him only a temporary, false experience of truth, and one that merely boosted his ego. Like over 90% of incarcerated women, Cam is a survivor of domestic and sexual violence and, like many Southeast Asian immigrants and refugees, her deportation was an act of anti-Asian violence. Cam has an opportunity to return home, but we need to fundraise $10,000 by December 2021 ($1,250 each month) to pay for her legal representation for post-conviction relief. We hope your community support will bring her one step closer to reuniting with her children. Please donate, share this fundraiser and toolkit, and sign up for updates/more ways to be involved!" *** Recorded April 16th, 2021. Part 1 of 2 part convo. Welcoming An, a Californi(An) comrade. Recorded in fits and starts on Wednesday March 17th after 9pm CST. Joan, Việt name Thùy Nam, shares how working at her mom's nail salon was more formative to all the work she does now than any formal education could ever give her. We mourn and speak to the forces that may have been active in the 2021 Atlanta spa shootings that claimed the lives of eight people, six of whom were women of Northeast Asian descent along with a White man and woman, with one survivor. Check out The SEAD Project, a Southeast Asian Diaspora focused org that Joan leads Vietnamese language learning programming at, and where Tri currently serves as a digital organizer. Find us at www.theSEADproject.org. Learn about Taproots Collective, the self-defense training community group that Joan and two fellow Viet co-founders are piloting as a private Facebook group with hopes of healthy and meaningful growth. From their About Us: "Xin chào các bạn! Taproots formed out of a collaboration between the Viet Healing Network and Viet Solidarity Action Network With sensitivity to personal lived experiences and the inherited traumas from the colonial history of Vietnam, we provide space for Vietnamese in the movements to build strength through self-defense and self care practices. By offering collective training and peer support we empower each other to form resilient communities that can adapt, heal, and address systemic issues that lead to interpersonal violence." Email glammump@gmail.com if you'd like to get in touch with Joan about Taproots Collective or any of the other cool and go-getter things she's building today, owing so much to the nail salon that her má built.
