In this episode of the Celebrate Kids podcast, we delve into the evolving relationship between teens and technology, particularly focusing on location tracking. Recent studies reveal that a significant number of teens and young adults actually desire their parents to monitor their whereabouts using apps like Apple's Find My and Life 360. This marks a shift in mindset for Gen Z, who, according to the New York Times and Wall Street Journal, are the most anxious generation to date, influenced by the pervasive presence of social media and real-time news coverage of global events. With 87% of Gen Z respondents utilizing tracking technology, we explore the reasons behind this trend and discuss how the increased anxiety levels and closer bonds with parents are reshaping the dynamics of parental engagement in the digital age. Tune in for an insightful conversation about the implications of these findings for families navigating technology together.

How do we get parents more involved and connected to our youth ministry? Sometimes parents seem like strangers in a car that drop off and pick up their students for youth group. Are you are looking to just increase communication and ministry awareness with parents? Are you trying to get parents to be more actively involved in helping with your youth ministry on a Sunday or a midweek program day? Or maybe, as a youth director, are you are just flat out afraid of parents?? Today, we take a look at 8 different ways that we can increase the engagement of parents in student ministry. Some of the topics we cover in this episode are: Having parents as small group leaders, communication with parents, having parents drive for you to events, security - medical - parking teams, donation sign ups, the golden hour of youth group and church and hosting events. Having parental support in your ministry is game changing, so making sure that parents are actively involved in our ministry can take student participation to the next level. Don't neglect parents - youth pastors don't just minister to youth, they should be ministering to the whole family! Please support us by signing up for a FREE Audible Trial here: https://amzn.to/30XN0QWThis episode is also available at our YouTube channel:https://www.youtube.com/c/ministrycoachAudio Equipment:Microphoneshttps://amzn.to/3eWUWrkDigital Recorderhttps://amzn.to/3eXmvkjPop Filtershttps://amzn.to/2ApEz7MMic Standshttps://amzn.to/2Zrwat2Shock Mounthttps://amzn.to/2AvjhWwXLR Cableshttps://amzn.to/2VI4uiy*This episode is not sponsored. Schools can take steps to increase student racial diversity--but sometimes putting policies into practice is more complicated than it should be.Today on the podcast we’re bringing you a special preview chapter from Robert Kim’s new audiobook Elevating Equity and Justice: Ten U.S. Supreme Court Cases Every Teacher Should Know. Bob is a former civil rights attorney, and is a leading expert in education law and policy. In this excerpt, Bob reads from the third chapter of his book, which details Parents Involved in Community Schools v. Seattle School District No. 1, a 2007 case that highlights how some conscious racial-integration plans could actually be a violation of the 14th amendment. It also draws attention to the growing racial segregation among schools in the U.S., and the desperate need for creative solutions. Coming out of The Committee on Education and Labor, chaired by Congressman Bobby Scott, the bill aims to assist localities that want to attempt voluntary desegregation plans, do that constitutionally. Since the Supreme Court's decision in the Parents Involved case from 2007, many districts have avoided desegregation plans for fear of running afoul of that ruling. What does education have to do with the future of our nation? Isn't education simply about teaching reading, writing, and arithmetic? More and more, we are seeing the consequences of the radical indoctrination of our government schools, yet more than 85 percent of American children (and more than 80 percent of children from Christian households) are still being sent there for their education. Yvette Hampton and Aby Rinella talk with Alex Newman, President at the Liberty Sentinel Media, Inc., about the insanity that has overtaken the public school system and what we can do about it. "I want to help the field of education realize its potential to help realize all Americans' potential." Liliana Garces holds a J.D. and a Ph.D., and was co-counsel in presenting amicus briefs to the Supreme Court of the United States. She explained to me how the courts have thought about the relation between racial and gender inequities (discrimination but also unequal conditions) and college admissions — and how the courts' conceptions shape the admission policies over the past few decades. Universities must show a "compelling interest" in the educational benefits of diversity — and they must not use affirmative action to redress past or current discrimination. How does this work out in the real world? Dr. Garces is an Associate Professor at the University of Texas at Austin and an Affiliate Faculty at the University of Texas School of Law. Her research is grounded in the intersection of law and educational policy, with a focus on access, diversity, and equity in higher education, and the use and influence of social science research in law. Combining her expertise in law and education, Dr. Garces has represented the education community in the filing of legal briefs in U.S. Supreme Court cases that have played consequential roles in interpreting law around race-conscious policies in education. She served as counsel of record and co-wrote, with leading scholars in the field, amicus briefs joined by hundreds of social scientists in the following cases: Parents Involved in Community Schools v. Seattle School District (2007) (553 signatories); Fisher v. University of Texas I (2013) (444 signatories); Fisher v. University of Texas II (2016) (823 signatories); and Schuette v. Coalition to Defend Affirmative Action (2014) (filed by The Civil Rights Project/Projecto Derechos Civiles at the University of California, Los Angeles). Most recently, she co-authored an amicus brief filed by 531 social scientists and scholars in support of Harvard's defense of its race-conscious admissions policies in Students for Fair Admissions v. Harvard University.

One of the most important and yet challenging parts of youth ministry is getting parents involved--in the right way. Steve and Dave share some helpful insight on how to successfully navigate this often rocky terrain.
Deut 31:9-13 Do you think God planned for a child of say 21 to have only heard the law and stories of the O.T. 3 times? Of course not. What do we think happened to Israel? They we supposed to hear this law daily from their families and then have it read to them once every 7 years. Deut 6:4-9 The responsibility of teaching the everyday lessons and reinforcing the law was placed on families of Israel Eph 6:4 Who has this responsibility? Who should be conducting the teaching Bible classes are simply the “icing on the cake” for students Parents (particularly fathers) need to make sure children have what they need to excel in God’s kingdom Do we expect children to simply become interested in spiritual things when they are 18?
