Back to the grind. After another busy weekend, here we are…at work. Again. Not only that, but I must have slept wrong and my shoulder is all out of whack and in a ton of pain. Had a very successful charity golf outing on Friday. Spent Saturday morning doing laundry & mowing the lawn…ran a few errands…went to the Speedway for the Smash-O-Rama. Then we had another parade yesterday with the Oktoberfest Grenadiers. I'm pooped! In the news this morning, a news anchor from Iowa quits live on-air, a new Miss Wisconsin is crowned, an airline passenger bit another person on the plane and was allegedly trying to fight everyone on board, another idiot tourist got too close to a bison at Yellowstone Park, In sports, the Brewers dropped two out of three to the Braves this weekend but managed to get a 9-4 win yesterday, Pat Murphy is getting a couple of procedures in the next few weeks, Team USA beat Australia on Friday & is on to the round of 32 in the World Cup, Corey Heim got his first NASCAR win yesterday at the Naval Base, and Wyndham Clark won his second U.S. Open this weekend after leading the tournament wire to wire. We talked about what's on TV today/tonight and Brian started watching a couple of shows on Netflix this weekend, including "Michael Jackson: The Verdict" and "Trust Me: The False Prophet" Are Dogs > Cats? Some new research may show that cats don't relieve stress as well as dogs can. Elsewhere in sports, Brady Tkachuk is headed to Florida to play with his brother, Jonathan Toews retires from hockey, a former U.S. Olympian is arrested after allegedly vandalizing the Reflecting Pool in D.C., and a fan climbs over the fence at a NASCAR race to have a chat with one of the drivers. An injured sea turtle was saved by some vets and is now back in the ocean and doing well…a man in Louisiana heroically saved a family that was in danger of drowning, and a woman who recently got married was walked down the aisle by the man who received her father's heart in an organ donation. We talked about some of our snacking habits, and we discussed the new number to shoot for when you're trying to retire. Kiana Schraufnagel is a  leader, volunteer, and advocate whose accomplishments span academics, service, athletics, and personal empowerment. She currently serves as Miss Wisconsin Volunteer 2026, while pursuing her psychology degree at Texas Tech University and performing as a Texas Tech Twirler. Her commitment to service has earned her the prestigious President's Volunteer Service Award, reflecting more than 1,500 hours of community involvement. A baton twirler and member of Team USA, Kiana has earned multiple national championships, World Championship medals in Liverpool, England, and numerous state and national titles. Beyond competition, she is the founder of True You Empowerment, a platform dedicated to building confidence and self-worth in young people.

As Willow Newell ends her reign as Miss Wisconsin (she crowns the next Miss Wisconsin on June 20th) we decided to re-share this interview that was recorded shortly after she became Miss Wisconsin in the summer of last year.

A recent nuclear engineering graduate of the University of Wisconsin-Madison, Grace's journey has been all but ordinary. At the age of 14, she began competing in pageants to improve her performance skills and found a passion in the Miss America Organization. She won Miss Wisconsin in 2022 then Miss America in 2023. Over her year of Miss America, she's advocated for nuclear energy and STEM education on the global stage across 27 states and 7 countries, including at COP28. She hopes to use her platform to motivate young people with diverse backgrounds to pursue energy careers. On December 15, 2022, Grace Stanke, representing her home state of Wisconsin, was crowned Miss America 2023 and awarded $50,000 in scholarship. This was the third time Miss Wisconsin has been crowned Miss America in the history of the Organization. During the competition, Stanke won the talent portion, performing a piece from “Vivaldi's Summer/Four Seasons – Storm” on her electric violin. Stanke, a nuclear engineering student at the University of Wisconsin-Madison, has earned more than $68,000 in scholarship assistance through her state and Miss America competitions. She was Miss Wisconsin's Outstanding Teen 2011, followed by Miss High School America 2013 before heading to The University of Georgia to complete her undergraduate studies in Journalism. She was crowned Miss University of Georgia 2016 while a member of Zeta Tau Alpha on campus. She then graduated from The University of Georgia and held the title of Miss Georgia in 2018, serving the great peach state. According to the Department of Justice, every 68 seconds an American is sexually assaulted. Kylene Spanbauer, Miss Wisconsin 2022, provides education and empowerment through her social impact initiative, No Means No: Sexual Assault Education. Kylene is a Certified Inclusion Ambassador and has received training for ACES, CPIS Crisis Intervention and De-escalation strategies, WCASA Sexual Assault Victim Advocacy School, and AMAZE for prevention educators. Brown joined the Bucks as a Sales Associate in 2021, right as the Bucks were starting their NBA Championship run.
