Today, for our last episode in this BATCH of Earth Stories, we look back at one of the most monumental environmental disasters in American history. While many stories have been written about how New Orleans came back after Katrina, at The Bitter Southerner, we were interested in a deeper question: Why did the people of New Orleans come back and rebuild their city? In episode 10, journalist and filmmaker, Lolis Eric Elie reads his piece “The Whys” - it's as powerful as anything we've ever published, and we're excited to share it on BATCH. Among many other works, Lolis' credits include working on the HBO series “Treme;” co- producing and writing the PBS documentary, “Faubourg Treme: The Untold Story of Black New Orleans,” as well as co-authoring “Rodney Scott's World of Barbecue: Every Day's a Good Day” A quick content warning for those listening with children or anyone who may not want to hear this right now; this episode has unbleeped adult language as well as mentions of death and suicide. Original Story The Whys Credits Hosted by Kyle Tibbs Jones Produced by Ryan Engelberger Engineered by Thomas Sully Allen and Mike Casentini Featuring original music by Curt Castle Recorded at Chase Park Transduction & Tweed Recording in Athens GA, and The Network Studios in Los Angeles, CA. Made possible by the support of Southern Environmental Law Center

Tune in to hear why we recommend Chartable when it comes to everything podcast analytics! TIME-STAMPED SHOW NOTES: [00:25] Today's topic: What We Learned from Analyzing Our Podcast Analytics. [00:36] We want to share our lesson learned from over 37 million downloads. [00:46] While Apple Podcasts and Spotify analytics are fine, we recommend using Chartable. [01:07] When we talk about SEO or content marketing, the retention on those are maxed out. [01:35] Repurpose your content rather than switching to different topics between platforms. [02:09] People do not mind ads on your podcast as much as you think. [02:37] Being consistent is more important than having a wide range of topics. [03:28] The longer you are around and are consistent, the likelier that you will stick around. [03:49] Also pay attention to how you are ranking in other countries, not just the US. [04:29] Many of our views come from old content—so show old episodes in your feed. [05:10] Reviews are important, so make sure you incorporate the feedback you get from them. We get to know two "super fun" actors on this episode, as the cast welcomes two new visitors into the Network Studios flagship offices. Join Jurassic Jen and Rocco in the outdoor, "HLN Hot Tub", which is located by the Country Club, within the rural part of "Mr. Rocco’s Neighborhood". First, you will meet Actor, Model, Personal Trainer and Fitness Coach; Josephine Rene. She will be Hollywood Late Nights’ new "Fitness Guru". She was winner at the "Muscle Beach International Classic". That's right, she’s got the beauty, the brains, and the brawn fellas, so watch out! Some of her latest work as an Actor includes the Netflix series, "Small Crimes", which is a "must-see". Next ring of the doorbell is another "sexy beast"! Rocco’s good buddy, and fellow Actor; Matt Mcgraw, from HBO's, "True Detective", joins Jurassic Jen, Josephine, and Rocco for a game of "Noun Sounds", where Rocco passes out his "Bag O' Buzzers", and then plays audio clips, of either a "Person, Place, or Thing". From Josephine's incident with fellow hobo Ricardo, who resides in the neighborhood, to Matt's run-in with David Hasselhoff, you’ll hear it all on this episode. From "Vegas" to "Plan B", join the cast for some fun and frivolity!
In this episode, the Late Night crew gets a surprise, when the owner of The Network Studios drops in to say hello. Comedian and entrepreneur, Mike Casentini, founder of the studio we record in crashes the show and brings a little funny in with him. Check out this lively and funny episode.
Kama Sutra is about as fascinating a name as "Pritesh Shah". America hold the phone and call 911 Rocco might have a Muslim in the studio! Actor, Comedian; Pritesh Shah joins Rocco #RoccoLateNight and "Jurassic Jen" Durst #JurassicJen and "One Man House Band "Ben Namnoum" #FrogatWhiskey at the Network Studios, and it's one hell of a good time! Pritesh Shah is a Stand Up Comedian colleague of Rocco's, and can also be seen on "Game Of Silence"( Amazon ), "Grimm", "Criminal Minds: Beyond Borders", and coming out on January 18th, Pritesh can be seen on the new TV series titled, "Six", on the History Channel. When this talented and funny guy is in-studio there's a shortage of "dead air". The first thing Rocco says is "Happy Thanksgiving", and Pritesh quickly engages the cast vehemently to what kind of Indian he is. Both things had nothing to do with one another, but this guy is "Pure Diesel"… no filter, says how he feels and tells it how it is.. so.. basically Rocco fell in love with Pritesh, but purely in a heterosexual manner. Probably because they both RAP. Rocco shocks the cast with his Vanilla "Ice Ice baby" parody Rap song about "Kama Sutra Love". Jurassic Jen has known Pritesh for a bit longer than Rocco, they are close.. she claims to have put him in the friend zone, but truth be told, Pritesh, although admiring her beauty, had "Friend Zoned" Jen right off the get go! I guess he knew that he's be fighting guys off for the rest of his life! Join Rocco and Jurassic Jen on this "Late Night Adventure" into topics such as "fat shaming", "Parenting", and "Pritesh's love for Yuvi Grewel, his partner on the "The PY Show". Are they Twins or Lovers, and will they pose for you?! Join us for a whole lot more too.. This episode is sponsored by "Meter Maid 3", coming to a theatre near you soon. "Frog(s) At Whiskey" play a smooth, improvised song to close the evening.
Moonlight Mike, Rocco, and their one man house band, "Frog At Whiskey, aka Benjamin, get an unexpected "ring of the doorbell", by "Donna", from the Collection Department at Moonlight Mike's Clown College. Moonlight Mike has studied with the best, and it comes with a cost! Rocco is baffled by this. Moonlight Mike faces the wrath of Donna as she attempts to collect on his Tuition payments. Rocco coerces Donna to get into the "Hollywood Late Night Hot Tub", so she jumps in with Turtle Neck on and all. "Hollywood Late Night" rehearses a New Segment called, "Person, Place or Thingz" . Rocco pays Donna 200 dollars in Jelly Belly's to leave the Network Studios. We conclude the episode with a special visit from Actor, Comedian, Improviser, and fellow Italian; Danielle Marcucci. She tells us where we can see her perform at the infamous "Groundlings" Theatre, and also about her latest film, "ADDicted". "Frog At Whiskey" closes the show out with an original song from his latest album.
Take a ride with Rocco and Moonlight Mike this episode while they talk about TV; new shows, big hits, current flops, and top headlines. Rocco introduces the cast and walks them into the "Hollywood Late Night Ice Box", located in the basement of "The Network Studios". It's a chilly night with plenty of comedy to warm you up, and Rocco's serving "Roc Cocoa". The guys picked up a few new Sponsors this episode, "Captain Jacks Cash for Gold", "Roccages Sausages", and "Vague Advertising". You will enjoy a ring of the "doorbell" by one of Rocco and Moonlight's favorite humans, "JoJo", and also by Special Guest Actress, who you've seen on "The Mentalist", "Major Crimes", "CSI", "Southland", and "Criminal Minds", Maria Russell. Rocco, Moonlight, and the Cast will play a game of "TV Show Theme Songs", and "Late Night Spitfire". Special Musical performance by Recording Artist, "Dave Crossland".
